Too old to perform
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It did not work with the system I was trying to make work. I am not confident that the box was not good at doing its job but for converting this particular legacy device, it did not perform successfully.

Simply nostalgic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There’s not tons to say about an HDMI converter. It works or it doesn’t go the most part, but let me break this down. Packaging is very standard, as are most component and Insignia products so nothing out of the ordinary. Out of the box, you’ve got instructions in English and Spanish, the converter, a wall A/C plug, and a USB-A to USB-C plug for attaching the converter to A/C plug. As you can imagine, to use the device, you plug the outlet into the wall, plug in the USB cord to power, the other end to the converter, and then, what’s not included, is connecting whatever old school device you’d like to the A/V aka RCA adapter, alongside an HDMI cord to run from the device to your choice of display. This works great for all kinds of outdated tech like DVD/VCR/video cameras, and pretty much any video game system made before 2008. Most modern TVs don’t have RCA plugs so these are essential for use. I plugged it in to my Nintendo 64, which has been collecting dust for years and it worked without issue. The converter has a light to indicate that power is on and it’s operating properly which is a genuine great touch so you can troubleshoot any issue, which would likely come from old tech. There is a switch on here to change from 720 to 1080p and vice versa. Not sure why you’d ever want 720p, but the option exists. Nothing I’d dock them for, I just haven’t seen anything below a 1080 display in years. That’s it, barebones. This doesn’t upscale or do anything special but it’s not supposed to so I’m not docking them points. Easy to use, easy to setup, and it works without issue.

Device for connecting older equipment to my TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia RCA to HDMI Converter is a good device for those that have older equipment that does not have RCA outputs instead of the more modern HDMI output. The product comes well packaged with the device and written instructions. The instructions are easy to follow since they are written instructions, as well as illustrations. The RCA adapter requires power in order for it to function. It includes a USB-A to USB-C cable. The USB-C end connects to the adapter of the port labeled 5V = 1A. The USB-A end connects to the included power brick or your own USB power source. It’s great they included the power brick since power is needed in order to operate the unit. This device allows me to connect my older VCR devices, older gaming consoles and cameras. I plug the RCA cable into the output of the equipment I’m using, that then plugs into the input of the RCA adapter. The RCA cable is not included. The yellow end is used for video, and the red and white ends are used for audio. An HDMI cable, which is not included, is used to connect the RCA adapter to my television. There’s a switch on the RCA adapter that allows me to toggle between a picture quality of 720P and 1080P. The RCA adapter is lightweight. It has 4 rubber feet at the bottom of the unit to help keep it from sliding around as it sit on a flat surface. Overall, this is a nice device that allows me to connect my older devices to my HDMI television sets.

Easy 5
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a kid that grew up on SNES and N64, it honestly makes me happy to see that companies are still putting out products that let you keep using the things you loved growing up. Because without this, there would be no way to connect any of my old game systems to my TV. This Insignia RCA to HDMI Converter does exactly what it promises, and it does it well. I dug out an old system that had been sitting in a box for years, hooked this up, and suddenly I was back playing on a flat screen TV without having to track down some obscure, overpriced solution online. Setup (if you really even need to call it that) was straightforward, picture quality was clean for what these older systems output, and there was no noticeable lag that would ruin gameplay. What really earns this five stars for me is the fact that it bridges generations — you can use your classic systems with today’s TVs instead of forcing you to give up or rebuy everything digitally. It’s refreshing to see new tech still supporting retro tech in a simple, affordable way. If you’ve got older consoles or devices with RCA outputs and a newer TV with only HDMI, this is an easy recommendation.

Works Great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This RCA to HDMI converter works exactly how I needed it to. I used this to play my old N64 on my modern TV. Setting it up is pretty simple if you've ever hooked up any kind of AV equipment before. You just plug the RCA outputs from your source (my N64 in my case), and then an HDMI cord from the converter to your TV, and lastly, a USB-C cord is needed to power the converter. The cord is included, but not a power supply. From there, you just turn on your devices as usual and select the proper input on your TV. I had no issues setting mine up and the picture looked great right from the start. You can select between 720p and 1080p, but honestly, I really didn't see a difference on my 4K tv. As I already stated, the picture quality is very good. It won't like make the N64 look like a modern console or anything, I mean, Standard Definition content is still Standard Definition, but this is a great way to get your old devices that may not have HDMI connected to modern TV which often don't have RCA inputs. And as far as gaming goes, I didn't notice any kind of lag. So you should be able to use it to hook up those old consoles with no issues. Overall I am very happy with this device. And I appreciate that I can use this with a variety of different devices, anything that has RCA outputs. I highly recommend if you are looking for a way to get those old devices hooked up to modern screens.

Does the job.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The RCA to HDMI converter from Insignia is a good device for being able to use older tech, but don’t expect HD quality. The device is very simple to use, plug in your HDMI to your TV, plug in the power plug, then plug in your RCA cable. This will work with older devices that uses an RCA cable such as older gaming systems, VCR’s, Camcorders etc. The converter has a switch that lets you choose from 720P or 1080P, but it never made a difference in the image quality when I tried it. The converter works as advertised, but don’t expect the content to look all that good. The reason for this is you are trying to take an analog signal that was made for an older 4x3 Tube TV’s and stretching it out to fit modern types of digital widescreen TVs, and the results you get are blotchy, blurry, barely legible images. And the bigger your screen is the worse the image is going to look. For instance, I hooked up my old Super Nintendo and connected it to my 65” Sony X90L, the image was so bad that it was basically unplayable. I decided to try out a smaller monitor to see if that helped, so I used a portable 16” monitor that I had, this made a difference, but the image was still blurry. Overall, the Insignia RCA to HDMI converter works just as it’s supposed to, it takes an older Analog RCA signal and converts it to an HDMI signal. The only problem is that most of that tech wasn’t meant to be used with today’s current format, so the results aren’t going to look anywhere near what you remember, or even that good at all. But at least you’ll be able to use it.

Great Legacy bridge to newer monitor/TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing this was pretty simple. There was an included converter, USB cable and power brick. This did not come with an HDMI cable. Use: I connected this to my monitor with an existing HDMI cable and was able to connect a all in one gaming device to this that had a yellow and white connector. They yellow was the video and the white mono audio. Once connected the resolution was about what I would expect for older games like Super Mario and Galaga. This allowed me to play with another family member with the bigger monitor where this otherwise would not be possible with the small 3.5” display it comes with. Also, I did not experience any issues with lag or performance. I do wish there was a way to mount it to the back of the monitor, but I understand they cannot include all scenarios. I also have a VCR and connected this up with some old VHS family movies and again they played just fine. Of course, the newer tv’s can only display old content so well. Cons: None. The fact that this can allow legacy devices to connect to a newer monitor or tv with a very low investment is amazing.

Works perfectly as expected!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Insignia RCA to HDMI Converter does exactly what I need and does it well. You might find devices that do this same thing for a little bit cheaper, but having used those before I'd still recommend this one specifically. For one thing, this one actually comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable AND (**gasp** could it be?!?) a wall power adapter! No rummaging through my old phone/device chargers to see which one might provide just the right amount of wattage to power the device correctly. I can't tell you how many times I've gone through every wall wart in my house only to find that none of them is the right combination of volts and [milli]amps for a new device I'm trying to power that didn't come with one. The fact that this comes as a complete solution is worth the price to me! Then there's the the fact that it just works. Want to use it with an old pre-hdmi game console? No problem! Just plug it into the wall, hook up your composite and HDMI cables, and you're playing the original Super Mario Bros. in no time at all. Got a VCR and some old VHS cassettes of your childhood dance or piano recitals? Same thing! Just works. Period. The last thing I want to mention some might feel is insignificant, but it's something I appreciate. There are rubber feet on the bottom of the device. A lot of times with these rather light dongles the position of the cables can end up putting enough force on them to push them off the top of my entertainment center. In this case though, the feet have kept it in place. I really like that. All in all, I feel this is a solid buy and worth the price given the quality and what is included.
