The charcoal layer seems to wear out fairly quickly so the it doesn't freshen as well as it does for the first 4 to 6 weeks of light to moderate use but after the first nearly year of use it is not covered with dust or lint if that gives you an idea of how long it lasts in a 1 dog household. Mostly keep it at level 1 so maybe doesn't really exchange the air that much.

Great Air Filter

In comparison to other air purifiers & filters the Insignia brand is more economical as far as affordability is concerned and they do an incredible job.

Disappointing Filter

I initially purchased the original unit while it was on sale, not realizing that the filter would degrade so quickly. On average, I need to replace it every three months. While frequent replacement might be acceptable for some, the $40 cost per filter adds up quickly and makes it hard to justify. Ultimately, I decided to stop using this system altogether and switched to a different air purifier to avoid the ongoing expense and hassle.

Just this last week the red light appeared telling me I needed a new filter (6 months). The purifier will still run if the light is on. If you try taking out the filter and putting the same used one back in, it knows and the red light doesn't turn off. I love my air purifier and getting a replacement filter was super easy. I also received a $5 certificate from my air purifier purchase that went towards this filter. Would buy again!
