Love this radio for the portability and the digital reception! It is easy to tune in stations. We use it on the dock and in the fishing boat out on the lake. Wish it used rechargeable batteries but the battery life hasn’t been an issue so far.

I was looking for a simple AM/FM HD radio for the office. Choices are very limited so I took a gamble on this purchase. I live about 20 miles from the major communication towers location. At first I had trouble receiving a signal but I moved the radio to a higher location in my office and the radio began receiving HD radio. Placement is key here. Don't try to blast the music and the sound will be fine.

We bought this radio to replace our AM/FM radio that has a bad connection in the volume control. The only AM station that we need is the local news station, which now has also has an FM frequency. Unfortunately, this particular FM station doesn't come in as well as its AM frequency on our old radio. We also wanted a digital tuner, so we don't have to keep moving the tuner dial back and forth to get just the right position to be on the station, and an HD radio to get the HD2, HD3, etc., stations. BUT, it doesn't get the best reception on some stations unless you position the radio near a window. All of the stations that we listen to are about 20 - 25 miles the way the crow flies in one of 2 directions from our house. The radio's home was supposed to be on our kitchen counter. We had to move it to the end table near the window in the living room, which is next to the kitchen. I was considering returning it, but it is OK in the living room. It just has to be louder than it would have been if you want to hear it in the kitchen. The + and - tuning, especially the -, often skip over the HD2, HD3, etc. stations. We programmed the HD2 station that we listen to often as one of the presets. The + and - preset buttons work every time. You have to scroll through the presets in forward or reverse order. There is no keyboard to specify the preset numbers. When you scroll through the stations, either with the preset or tuner + and - buttons, the station information appears on the display. Pretty good radio for the price. I wish it had a stronger receiver so that it could live on our kitchen counter.

This review is somewhat superfluous because the few HD devotees out there already know how limited the options are for HD radios. It's the only portable dual power HD radio that I know of. It's probably not going to be around much longer, like the pocket sized Insignia HD radios which are also no longer available at BB. The radio itself has a solid feel, and works well. Having both a built in telescoping antenna and input for a custom antenna is a plus, as well as the aux input and headphone jack. As with all HD radios, the sound is immaculate if you can lock onto a channel. Get it while you can!

It has a good tone. Tuning is easy enough. It might have been better for some of the buttons to be slightly different to be able to differentiate between the different functions (tuning, preset, volume, etc.), all of which are on top of the radio. My only real complaint is that when I use it with rechargeable batteries, they only last for maybe 10 hours before needing to be recharged, so I have to change batteries at least once a week. That contrasts with other smaller, cheaper handheld radios that would last for weeks or months between battery changes. The display has a flashing battery icon to let you know the battery is low, and that icon flashes soon after I put new ones in. it works great with the AC adapter. I bought it to be able to carry around the house especially to listen to one of the HD stations in our area. Note that this radio only receives FM and FM-HD stations and not AM. I haven't listened to any AM stations in our area recently anyway, but that might be important for some people to know.

I bought this to use as a cheap HD Radio receiver for an existing sound system, and for that it's been working great. Reception is very good with the regular antenna and the headphone output is clear with minimal distortion. The tuner also defaults to using HD channels if a station provides them, so you'll always be getting the best radio quality available. If you're planning to use the radio on its own, the built in speaker can get pretty loud, but starts noticeably distorting above about 70%. It sounds better than a clock radio, but if you're planning to fill a room I would recommend pairing it with a more powerful audio system.

I wanted an HD radio to listen to the HD2 channel of a local radio station. This fills the bill. The tone is good for the size and price. Reception is excellent. The only issue is that I found setting the preset difficult.

I always tell people, never buy a portable FM radio unless it’s an HD radio. If you live in a major market/city where every FM station has an HD Channel, but this radio. Many of their HD Channels rebroadcast their AM signals and/or present special programming, like 106.7 KROQ in LA has their ROQ of the 80’s format. KOST rebroadcasts KFI, and K.Earth 101 rebroadcasts KNX. When they originally released this particular radio, it was...ok. Insignia, a Best Buy brand, did a great job with upgrading this radio, fixing issues they had with their old one. For an example, when tuning into a save station on the presets, before you would have to start at the beginning every time. With the new and improved version of this radio, if you’re at a station that you’ve saved in preset #4, when can continue from to move forward to the next station or backward. Play with the radio, and you’ll love it.

It's very hard to find portable FM radios that decode HD Radio (the only ones I've ever seen in a store is Best Buy's Insignia brand). This radio was on sale, and I am very happy with the performance. It decodes our local HD station without any problems, and also decodes FM RDS station information too. Nice sound, nice portable size. Very happy with this.

This is a great radio to receive FM HD broadcasts, reception is good and decent sound through its speakers. I was expecting a richer sound through the headphone jack, I bought it expecting it will deliver a great HD sound for a good pair of headphones or hook it up to my stereo, but it lacks bass and warmth. I get much more bass from the headphone jack in my iPhone or laptop. Other than that, it’s great to listen to radio in the bedroom, patio or kitchen.

Like the bright easy to read display. Battery life is good. I would suggest external antennae to bring in weak or distant signals. Doesn't feel cheap but I wouldn't drop it on a hard surface. I used the headphone jack to feed audio to a soundbar and was happy with the fidelity. Excellent deal for the price I paid. I think I bought an open box item and it looked box new.

I bought this radio to use in the garage while working and/or washing my vehicles. It easily picks up my local FM/HD stations and it has good sound quality for a small tabletop radio. The radio is small and portable and can be used virtually anywhere. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality FM/HD radio.

Radio has nice sound, just the right size and I like the fact that it can be plugged in or run on batteries. Only trouble I find with it is after you put in your pre-select stations, is if you want to go to the next station is goes back to the first station. But My wife likes it and she's the one who wanted it. She only listens to one station.

I’ve owned the first two versions of this radio. This is the latest model. Revision B. They’ve fixed the lack of bass on the headphone jack and have reduced the brightness on the screen after 30 seconds to save on battery life. The speakers on the radio are loud and provide a deep bass and balanced sound all around. Even barely up in volume, it is pretty loud. Now comes with a pigtail antenna so the radio doesn’t look so bulky while using at the office. Great radio and great price. Definitely recommend this radio to anyone who is loves terrestrial radio. Very sensitive in reception.

Great HD radio. Listen to high Quality music again and not the run down music these radio stations play today do to the HD radio upgrade. Radio station’s with HD radio take the highest quality music they used to play on the radio and put that quality on the HD format and delay the rest to match up the time on standard radio making low quality playback. HD radio does deliver better quality music in today’s demand in music.

I bought 3 of these (my home office, bedroom, and bathroom; I like to have NPR on at all times, either news or "classical" music. It has a good sound and is quite easy to use, especially since I have set up the 3-4 stations I listen to. I have given up on my 3 inexpensive clock radios, as they have all given up the ghost. (I now use my cell phone as an alarm clock. My wife, however, complains that theradio buttons are hard to see, which is true. But I think she will adjust and enjoy the experience soon
