Customers are delighted by the Tabletop FM/HD Radio's excellent sound quality, ease of use, and good reception. Many appreciate its compact size and the inclusion of HD radio. However, some users note that the battery life could be improved, and the lack of AM radio is a drawback for some. A few also mention that the volume and controls could be enhanced for better usability.

This little guy does what I need it to do and does it well. It sounds good for a portable radio, has good reception, and picks up the HD subchannels I wasn't able to get with a standard radio. It doesn't have AM, but for me the AM stations I was concerned about are mirrored on HD subchannels anyway. I'm not an audiophile, so YMMV, but I've no issues with the quality of sound. At first the controls were slightly confusing, but it didn't take me long to have my presets set. It uses a power cord or batteries. I honestly haven't tried it on battery yet since I use it in my home, but that will be a nice feature if there's a power loss.

Purchased this portable to hookup to my garage stereo auxiliary input just for the HD Radio Tuner since a stand alone HD Tuner component is hard to find anymore. I love the fact this portable has an auxiliary input as well so I'm not really losing an input on my receiver. It also comes with a seperate wired antenna which really improved the reception greatly, the standard boombox type antenna was good for standard FM but it struggled to maintain a good HD FM reception. I am OK with no AM tuner which someone may just assume it has AM capability. The price was more than affordable for its features.

I had the earlier version of this Insignia HD radio. It is around 8 years old and have ran it every day since I bought it. It is showing its age. I use head sets and the phono connector isn't making contact all the time. I have tried to clean it but it has been a loosing battle. So I ordered the replacement which is very close to the one I have.
Long story short the simple act of turning it on isn't simple. I was used to just push the power switch and it would come on. The new one requires the power switch to be held on for about 4 seconds. The manual doesn't say anything about this. I took it in for a replacement. The Best Buy customer service agreed it didn't come work. They gave me a new one no problem. Even tried it out in the store. Got home, same problem!! I returned to the store the, very patient, customer service rep had tried the old radio and found the trick of press and hold. It cost me two trips and the store extra time. I gave 4 stars for needing a better manual, if I could I would give the customer service girl 5 stars. The HD radio gives a great noise free sound. I like the radio.

Bought this radio to have during severe weather situations, and it works nicely. The HD radio function provides clear sound over FM - much better than I would have thought possible. I've since taken this radio on camping trips and it's portability is great. A nice product, overall.

Nice portable radio. Pulls in HD stations very well. Sound is good for a portable radio. Would rather have seen the buttons on the front than the top. Buttons can only be seen looking down on the top of radio. Good value for the price.

This HD radio has solid reception of standard FM and HD signals. I live in the DC metro, so signal strength is strong, but even distant stations come in surprisingly well. It's a true stereo unit, with two speakers and a "stereo" indicator on the display to indicate the presence of the stereo pilot signal. Sound quality is about what you would expect from a unit of this size and price -- that is, it does not exhibit deep bass and warm tone that you would expect from a higher end radio or Bluetooth speaker. Audio is clear without noticeable distortion, even at relatively high volumes. This small radio, however, might not fill your large room with sound. Tuning and presents are easy enough to operate. The control buttons, located on the top of the unit, offer a sleek appearance but may be a bit confusing in initial use since they all look the same and are labeled with relatively small typefaces.
Just a few downsides I've noticed ..
- the piano black type plastic on the top front of the radio looks sleek when clean, but is a fingerprint and scratch magnet
- headphone/earbud users might notice a background noise, when playing audio at low volumes, that seems to be caused by the unit's LCD display (the noise changes according to what's being displayed). This background noise is not noticeable when playing through the speakers.
- I've had no luck powering my radio with rechargeable NiMH batteries, possibly because their voltage is lower than regular alkaline batteries. I've not had the radio long enough to comment on battery consumption.

For a compact radio it has good sound, A couple of design issues.
It was a struggle to get the batteries in, I never could get the strap arranged right and it sticks out. If it made clear batteries weren't included I missed it, there should be an easy one click way to add batteries to the purchase. The controls are arranged along the top, they are too small, and too close together. You have to hold the on button down for awhile to get it to come on.

This is one of last remaining piece of tech on market that plays radio like a radio. Grab one before its obsolete and becomes collectible. Has challenges just like regular radio. Need signal through open air and no building walls should be blocking it. Comes with an antenna that is helpful

Needed something battery powered for the drive in movies. It doesn't get too loud, we had to be quiet when used outside, it worked well the first time, and now I don't know why but sometimes it turns on, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe we need to change the batteries, or maybe its just touchy now. But it was very hard to find a battery powered one same-day.

The radio is light weight. Don’t take up a lot of space. Fit on a windowsill, counter small patio table, etc. Love the a Digital feature, see name of station, artist, song playing and you also receive info with the commercial. The only thing (in my option) is a handle to carry it. Forgot to mention it will fit in your purse, backpacker and other carry items. The sound is fantastic, the antenna work, just wish it was stronger. Yes, I’d recommend this portable radio. Thinking about putting one in my guest room.

This radio looks very cute and is a great complimentary to any kitchen, living room, or bedroom. The sound quality is great for the price and it also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack for private listening which is a plus. I wish the manual mentioned that you have to press the Power button for a few seconds to turn the radio on/off. One you get past the fact that you have to wait a few seconds after pressing the Power button to turn it on/off, this radio is very easy to use. It also feels very solid and durable.

Getting the radio to operate by battery power has been a bit tricky, but after a few hiccups we have finally managed to get it working well. We use batteries primarily because this is taken to locations where there are no electrical outlets. The sound is good and reception is also good.

Great portable HD/RDS radio for the price

In this day, it’s tough finding radios on store shelves. The Insignia portable HD radio is a good find, especially if you are looking for an FM/HD radio, or an FM radio with RDS title and artist display. I’ve had both the current model and the previous model. Both are similar in style and performance. On the down side, it’s FM and HD only. It would have been nice to include the AM band. And the speakers are not super high quality. But for the $39 price point, it’s a bargain for a portable FM HD radio. Once power is applied, it retains its channel should power get interrupted. Scan, and preset saving are standard features. Works on standard AC and batteries. I hope Insignia continues to make this radio! I docked the review one star due to the radio being FM only and the sound quality could be better, but both would be at a higher cost.

The radio picks up stations well and sound/music is clear. My only gripe is that it doesn't come with an AC power source. Those batteries can get expensive.

I have a favorite HD radio station in my car but was unable to find it on any internet streaming service so I looked for a reasonably priced portable HD radio for the home. This one fit the bill. The built in speaker is about what you'd expect from a low cost radio so I connect to an external speaker through the headphone jack for much better sound. I use the AC adapter exclusively so cannot comment on battery life. Overall I'm very happy with the radio and to have my favorite HD channel in the home.

Excellent Small Radio

Needed a small radio for the bathroom as the old one wouldn't tune in stations well. The size and excellent digital turning of this were a perfect combination and the good sound quality a nice bonus. The only complaint is that the bulky AC/DC adaptor cord is very bulky for a bathroom sink plug so I run it on batteries. Battery life with the 2As appear to bee quite good so no real problem.
