Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the Tabletop FM/HD Radio's excellent sound quality, ease of use, and good reception. Many appreciate its compact size and the inclusion of HD radio. However, some users note that the battery life could be improved, and the lack of AM radio is a drawback for some. A few also mention that the volume and controls could be enhanced for better usability.

HD radio on a budget, annoying interface

The best part of this radio is that it gets the HD digital signal, so as long as the signal is strong enough you get "perfect" sound. Also, you can get lots of extra stations on HD subchannels. The problem is: that matters most when the signal is weak enough that analog FM doesn't sound great, and if the signal is that weak, it's right about the same level that's going to have a hard time getting the digital signal. Generally, with a wire added to the antenna, I can keep a 20 mile away station locked on to HD. When it is, the sound is great. When it switches to analog, the audio is much hissier than other radios (like an FM station not tuned in quite right). The worst part of this radio is all the identical looking and feeling tiny buttons on the top. Just adjusting the volume is a challenge, since the labels are tiny and you have to either squint or know by feel which two are volume. Otherwise you hit a tuning button and it goes off-station and then you have to get it tuned back in. Also, there are plenty of presets, but they're only accessible with preset up/down buttons rather than it having some buttons on the front with one button dedicated to each preset. So, a pain to set, and a pain to recall, but better than nothing (and how most digital radio interfaces are, it seems, these days). So, that was a deal killer for my elderly parents in addition to being an annoyance for me. Oh, and sometimes it "crashes" either completely, or just can't hold on to the HD signal, and you have to reboot or hit the aux button twice to reset it. Worth it to me for the digital sound and (occasionally) extra stations. No bluetooth input, just an AUX jack. Easy to get a separate BT receiver for that jack, but BT should have been included.

Extremely pleased with this HD radio! I can listen to my favorite station which got put on the ,2 position on my Local Public Radio station. Very easy to use, good sound for the size and projects through the whole room very well. The classical music sounds good and clear. Very pleased with this radio, I bought another for my studio!

    HD Radio Sounds Great

This Insignia HD radio sounds great considering its size. It runs with its power cord or with batteries. Since it doesn't have a handle it is not as easily carried as it could be, but it is still easy to have clear FM radio anywhere.

    Good little radio

Good little radio, nice sound, substantive case. The only thing that is a problem is putting in the batteries. It takes 4 AA batteries, and the way the springs are set up in the battery slot makes it difficult to put the batteries in. The buttons to change the channel and volume are at the top of the radio and are small, so they can be hard to use for someone who has a problem like arthritis. The radio comes with the extra electrical power source connector, so you don't have to purchase it separately which helps save on the battery use. Overall, I think it's a good value and I'm happy with my purchase.

I got this radio so that I could listen to the only classical station in South Florida. I actually play classical music for my pets when I am out of the house. This is a wonderful radio. I connected it to a speaker for a richer sound, but it was really not necessary. As a stand alone, without speakers, it sounds great. NOT tinny, full bodied. Good volume. Easy to use. I was so happy that I purchased a second one, for my family room.

Great HD radio and good price. I got this on sale. The reception in the city is crisp and it picks up all subchannels multiplexed within an hd radio channel. My only gripe is that the user interface and buttons take getting used to and are unintuitive at first.

It seems that portable radios are largely a thing of the past. At least they are few and far between. I was happy to find this one at Best Buy. And it is the first I've seen with HD stations! It has great sensitivity and very good sound, especially for music. It can be run with 3 batteries or an AC adapter. It is designed to be very slim and smooth. Which is a problem. The control buttons are small and almost imperceptible on the top, making them hard to use. The radio is slippery and doesn't have a handle so it is hard to carry around. But I haven't seen anything better yet.

Excellent portable, but a little small and definitely the sound is too small to play outside. Quite sensitive, ironically I favor a non-digital local radio channel that plays uninterrupted rock and prog, but it picks it up in the house which is quite an achievement. The long antenna helps.

I was looking for a radio that was compact, portable (battery operated, though also can be used with cord) and had pre-sets. So far this has worked well for me.

This is a nice HD radio. Did not really know what HD radio was. Picks up all the stations I want without any interference. A little inconvenient that it does not hold the last station, but have my favorites in the preset function. Bought it on sale. Was a very good value for the price. Very portable.

Ooops!!! I returned one because of mistake!

First: You must press the power button for longer than a simple push of a button to make it turn on!!! I returned the first one because it wouldn't turn on, then the replacement did the same thing: In desperation I held the power button down and IT WORKED!!! The sound through the headphone jack is AWESOME! I have it run through a soundbar (set at ~50% volume) and it sounds GREAT! Downsides: Switching presets is slow: a few seconds. Print out your local HD stations to preplan your presets (20 presets!), and it goes faster to program than just scanning back and forth. [https://hdradio.com/stations/]

Bought this little guy for camping. It serves it purpose in that respect. It’s a fairly decent radio address we were surprised the reception was as good as it was for a pretty basic radio

Yes, it has a small speaker. In fact, the entire radio is a rather small, unimpressive-looking item. Big things come in small packages. If you've got a bluetooth-enabled speaker or speaker system and a bluetooth transmitter laying around along with a 3.5mm audio cable, you've got the makings of a very impressive sounding FM setup. At it's most basic premise, it's an FM radio that receives and translates HD signals. However, it can also take a local FM station that doesn't transmit an HD signal and boost it's regular signal to near- HD status. In fact, what it does for KMFA, a classical station here in Austin, is take it from a scratchy, static- laden sound to a crystal clear signal that actually makes me want to listen to classical radio, and that's saying something. I don't normally want to do that. If you want ultra-clear radio and don't want to have to rely on your phone app to listen to a local station, this is a very inexpensive and wonderful alternative. I would buy this again.

It has good sound, runs on both batteries and from a cord, you can program your stations and plugs in earphones. Two small things: it was a bit of a struggle to get the batteries into the tight space, and the image on the directions was not completely clear. Also, the instructions for programming the stations said "push Memory and this message will appear." It did not. You have to push Memory, then the button next to it before the message appears. But I figured out both issues, so not a problem. Bought for emergencies; I keep it in my car.

I bought the plug in radio for mom. She keeps the radio on all day on La Ranchera station. This station has the worst and most annoying reception on most radio devices. Fortunately, not this radio. Thank goodness. The only thing we did not like is that you have to press the power button for 5 seconds to turn on and off. We wish this was a simple touch.
