Built Cheap And I Expect It To Stay That Way

I bought this to go with my new Sharp 70" TV. It was hard to find a stand that was long enough to place this set on and that also had a large enough shelf below the TV that could hold the center channel speaker for my home theater system. Previously my center channel speaker was mounted too high on a shelf which resulted in a lot of the dialogue being directed over the listening area. Since I only have half of my hearing, mounting the speaker lower has been effective in increasing my ability to decipher the spoken word. Putting the stand together properly was problematic. Often times products like this say "easy set up" and should only take about twenty minutes. After following the directions, I noticed that there was too much space between the glass main shelf and the mount that it was supposed to sit on. After looking at it for a long time, I realized that one of the hinges on the back of the unit was twisted. This did not allow the glass shelf to properly fit onto the mount and I was worried that the glass would crack when the TV was put on it. So I called the factory and spoke with a tech. He was very pleasant and patient when I explained the problem. His suggestion was to try to force the pin farther into the hinge. If that didn't work, send it back to Best Buy. So I got out a few tools and finally settled on the "bigger hammer" theory-- and banged the pin home. It's not a perfect fit but does the job just fine. You can't see the "repair" because it is in the back of the unit. Otherwise the unit is sturdy.

    Bad First Experience

Well I got this stand after reading reviews and checking it out at the store. I purchased it and brought it home. When I was attempting to put it together I noticed I got a bad one. The holes did not line up, no matter what I did. I had to box it back up and get a friend to come over to haul it back to Best Buy, which was a pain. I exchanged it and the new one was perfect. I am actually VERY happy with, just upset about the hassle I went through. The stand must weight 100 lbs, and was a pain to bring back. I would have given it 5 stars if it was not for the bad stand I got in the first purchase. Best Buy should offer coupons or points when the customer has to go through such a hassle in my opinion. If the stand was bad again, I would have gone elsewhere due to the hassle.

Hi! I apologize that you got a bad unit, but I'd like to recommend that you take advantage of Best Buy's 15 day return/exchange policy to swap it out for a new one at the store! -Brian Insignia Support BBY-ExBrand_Insignia

Why can't holes ever line up?

First off, I'm not unhappy with this unit. It looks good, is sturdy/solid, and seems to support my 85lb. 60" plasma TV just fine. It fits well in a corner but will work when my wife wants to rearrange things, and it's tall enough that the bottom of the TV is visible over the arm of the big chair we've got. It will serve me well, but I have this against it... 1. Why is it so hard to line up holes on components that are supposed to go together? The only real assembly required is inserting 4 thumb screws - 1 to solidfy the folded base, 1 to attach a bracing bar to support the glass the entire length of the back, and 2 to attach the top glass to the base. Of course, the hole threaded in the base was a full 1/8" lower than the back bar was meant to sit. With a TV to be delivered in 12 hours I resorted to reeming out the hole on the back brace to allow me to get the thumb screw inserted. If I hadn't screwed up on a similar assembly project before I might have tried forcing the screw and stripped the threads and been up a tree. One of the mounts on the bottom of the top glass shelf was also mounted slightly askew, but I was able to get the thumbscrew in by raising the shelf first and then allowing it to pull the shelf down instead of trying to get the screw to pull itself into the hole in the base. 2. They did a great job assuring that the top shelf is securely attached to the base. The other two shelves, however, are another story. I'm less concerned about the bottom shelf, which simply lays against the bottom of the base with three small (1/2") and useless suction cups meant to hold it in place. The center shelf has two larger (1") but equally useless suction cups meant to keep it against the front legs, and a t-bar slotted, but not secured, through a hole in the back to keep it from sliding forward. Gravity should hold that in place, but it would have been smarter if there was something that inserted through it so that once through it would not pull out on its own - say when a cable end might pull against it. 3. They were smart enough to make the largest sticker on the top shelf an easy peel-off plastic one. The other large one was paper backed and after spending time pressed down in the packing box under various thermal conditions it wasn't exactly easy to peel off. Using only my fingernails and some window cleaner I was able to see mild scratching from the removal process. Thankfully the very small scratches are hidden by the TV base, but if this was meant to be under a wall mounted set it could be a bit of an eye-sore for a visually picky person (my wife). A couple cents more for an easy peel sticker would save that headache. I might be picking knits with the 3 stars, but it means average, and that's what I'd call this stand. Good bang for the buck, with plenty of room for components (I have a BluRay, DVD Recorder (stacked), Cable Box and DirecTV receiver all on the top shelf, leaving the bottom for whatever I decide goes there (gaming unit, surround sound amp, etc.). If the holes all lined up I would have been a lot happier. But knowing that while the back bar is secure it's not as secure at it might have been makes me drop this down. So while I recommend this unit it comes with these warnings.

The TV stand looks good and appears sturdy. Found a broken part (hook screw) when assembling it and called the mfgr. and they said I have to pack the entire item and return it to the store to exchange it. I brought it to the store and they didn't have another one to exchange so they had to order it and I had to pick it up later. The mfgr wouldn't mail me this tiny part and so I had to go to the trouble of packing it back up and required me to make 3 trips to finally get the stand. The stand is almost 5 feet long and very heavy. Very troublesome.

It looks ok, but it must have been made by a broken machine Because it didn't fit properly after I put it together and I was not going to take it back after I had already put it together. There is a weight support bar in the back held together by one screw in the middle. One screw mid center is supposed to support the weight of a TV,? Why not screws on both ends? I bought two of these stands and both were the same in terms of fit and finish. From a distance though it does look good.

This is an attractive stand that fits perfectly under my 65 inch TV. Only thing is that if you have very heavy amplifiers or receivers the glass barely supports it. You may want to use them not on the same shelf. Maybe better one on top shelf one on another. My amps are like 45 pounds a piece.

This was a real pain to assemble. We broke three of the four clips provided and several of the holes did not line up. Once assembled, it's plenty big for my 60" and all the accessories and seems sturdy.
