I would, however, be careful about using the carabiner to attach to an outside D ring or handle. While your flash drive "most likely" will stay in place, I could see it falling out if the laptop case were inadvertently turned upside down. If you have a flash drive that contains info you can't afford to lose I would keep it inside the laptop case.
