However, it should have been included as part of the accessories with the laptop and not sold separate. This was definitely one of those moments that I was not pleased with having to make a purchase but I needed the adapter.

A necessary accessory with inconsistent results

The adapter, when it recognizes a device, functions as expected. However, it failed to recognize many of my flash drives (usually the 3.0 drives). It did recognize my Time Machine hard drive. I have read that the Apple brand adapter has similar problems. In any case, you will need to buy an adapter like this for your MacBook laptop. This one is half the price of the Apple one.
