This product is as good as Google Home. It was a gift to my daughter and she loved it. I have heard that there is a bug that when internet connectivity dies the speaker starts buzzing. But I have not lost internet yet, so not sure if its true or not. I did not pay any money for this, it was bundled with one of the small appliance that I bought.

-Speakers are louder than Google Mini....comparable to Home -Does this get updates the same time as Google own products? -Probably not reliable as an alarm clock it power/internet goes down.

Enjoy using voice to instruct music selection and setting alarms. Wish it kept time when internet drops connection.

Great alternative. like the display, and the sound. Only thing that stinks is it wont keep time when it looses connection to internet.

Okay as an alarm clock but failed on all other tasks. Did not connect to wifi/ internet with multiple tries and two units. On sale for a reason.

Works well, but requires internet for the clock

Works well, sounds good for $25. The only complaint is if the internet goes down, the clock either shows dashes or net after only 1 minute of internet down. Don't depend on the clock of alarm.

This can be compared to the new Google home. My only complaint I had to take it close to my internet connection in order for setup to be completed( unlike my Google home). It can be a little tricky trying to connect but once it's connected it's really a great product.

Did not connect to the internet. I tried several times to reset the device and retry, but it never worked. I ended up returning the product.

So I had issues with the first one where it would not connect to the internet or anything. It would not respond to commands at all. Upon return and purchase of another one it worked. don't buy at $99 price as best buy frequently puts it on sale for about 25 bucks.

I got this on a great sale because I wanted an alarm clock that could play Pandora. I don't regularly use the Google Assistant function. It's a novelty I guess, but I don't see a real use for it. It must be used to set the alarm, which I dislike. Also, there was a power outage in my area about a week ago, since that time, it frequently loses internet connection and won't get it back unless you unplug and plug it back in. I certainly wouldn't pay full price for this, but it is OK.

I would save your money. I have 3 of these because of a special promotion I thought I was getting a good deal. They lose internet connection every other day and I have to keep unplugging it to reset it. This make it useless as an alarm clock. There is no specific time it looses the connection, and the are not far from the router. When it does work the sound is not bad, better than the mini but not as good as the home. You can not adjust the bass and treble. It also hasn't have a software update since I got them and it badly needs one to fix the bugs and to get all the new features google mini has.

This is a decent little speaker, I've used it since getting it earlier thus month and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's incredibly easy to setup and once done you open up your hone to a plethora of knowledge. Need to know the weather in Greenland, just ask and google assistant will give you precise accurate information. While not the biggest selling assistant it's certainly the best of the bunch. It hits the answers with more accuracy and the fact you can have a contextual conversation is fantastic. Aesthetics wise it's not bad, it looks like an alarm clock, has a clear and easy to read face with time and weather, it looks quite good. Sound wise it's not as good as hoped. It's not bad by any means but doesn't have the volume for me, but if thus is going to be next to you then that shouldn't be an issue. It can sometimes be a little slower to respond to voice commands but that could just be an internet issue also. Overall a really good Bluetooth speaker that not only has the excellent Google assistant but also open you up to smart home opportunities

Bedroom Google Assistant Speaker and Clock

This unit is the most "bedroom alarm clock" themed of any smart speakers I've tried out. This is my fourth google assistant smart speaker, and they're are getting easier and easier to setup. Need to use the Google Home smartphone app, and its a couple button presses and some light reading and that is it. Transferred all my settings (more precisely, assigned all my settings to this speaker from the cloud), including my voice profile. The sound is okay, good for a bedroom, goes fairly high before distortion. Can do all the things we want our Google Assistant to do, control smart home with registered devices, set alarms and timers per device we are talking to, play music per device or cast across all speakers, answer Google querries, check calendar. Pros: Can dim the clock pretty low in brightness. Black colored design blends in well and looks the most like an alarm clock of any google assistant speaker I've had. Has a 1 amp usb charging port for slower overnight charging. Its on the back below the microphone mute button. Cons: Temperature only displays for about 10 seconds after you ask Google what the temperature is. It is the outside temperature reported via the internet, and cannot show or keep showing the local temperature at the clock, i.e. there is no temperature sensor on the unit itself, I thought this was a bit misleading myself from the product presentation.

I have a google mini which I absolutely love, and wanted another one. Saw this on sale and checked the reviews of course some were good some not so much. I decided to give in a try. Right out of the box I could not connect to the app I had already downloaded to my phone, so I downloaded another app to my iPad. It connected right away setup was smooth. The sound is amazing. I hate to admit it but it's better than google mini. Setting bluetooth is tricky. You have to hold the two dots, in my opinion that could be better. Things were fine until it stop connecting to the internet, which was one of the problems I read in other reviews. I disconnected it for a while and plugged it back in, went back to working. Don't know if this problem will continue. If you can get it on sale I would go for it. I bought it to play music and alarm clock. Have not been disappointed with either.

Terrible product - wifi does not work

    Posted

I purchased this product on ebay-bestbuy last week based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this site. I bought a google home mini in December and have enjoyed using it, so thought this would be a great second speaker for my bedroom. It's not. I submitted a review on ebay as well, but it was not displaying, so I'm reviewing here to hopefully add some helpful criticism for anyone else purchasing it. This speaker must have the wifi antenna in a poor location or just a weak antenna. I'm unable to get it to connect to the internet, unless it is about 15 feet away from the wifi router. I use a TP-Link Archer C2 AC750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac/n/a. This router provides signal throughout my home. I set this up in two locations and it did not work in either places. The google home mini worked in both of the places. I tried putting it on the shelf right next to my google home mini and the only response I got was "there was a glitch" or "something went wrong." I'm unable to use this in my bedroom for an alarm clock as planned. Based on this experience, I would not recommend anyone purchase it. Stick with a google home mini.

This is my first smart home device! I love it! I use it daily. Just by speaking I can add things to my calendar, set an alarm, set reminders, set a shopping list, have it read my plans for the day, read me the news, ask it will it rain, ask where a particular movie is playing, etc etc. I have it play the sound of a brook for when I'm sleeping. I bought a smart plug for my bedroom lamp (by Belkin WeMo) which synced perfectly so all I have to say is "Hey Google, turn off the light" (or turn on the light). I had to change the "nickname' from Wemo to "light" so I could say turn of light vs turn off Wemo. Now I don't have to walk in the dark and feel for my lamp in order to turn it on. Lol. The speaker looks nice as well! This model doesn't have a recharable battery, which is fine for me since I won't need to take it from room to room. I did not buy it for music playing, which sounds pretty nice, but don't expect Bose...it's not that, but it's way better then your cell phone playing music that's for sure! I bought it for convenience of turning on my light and enjoying the features of the smart speaker. I'm so happy with it. I got it for a great sale price as a Deal of the Day promotion. I bought one for my daughter for her home and I bought an extra...for "just in case". Lol. Oh, and for those that don't have internet at home and just hot spot on your cell, you can use it thru hotspot. You need 2 devices, 1 being your cell and the other a iPad or tablet. Download foxfi and the foxfi pda net apps to your cell. Turn on the "Wi-Fi hotspot" on your cell from foxfi. Use foxfi as your WiFi. On your cell turn on your hot spot from your carrier. Download the goggle home app to your iPad or tablet. Sync up the speaker and set it up thru your iPad or tablet using the Goggle Home app. On foxfi make sure to set the timer to none so your WiFi hotspot doesn't time out. It works great! I turn off my carrier hot spot when I leave the house. I turn it back on when I get home. The only thing is that you do need to wait a few mins for it to sync back up. I can't justify paying for internet since I have unlimited data and hotspot. Using just my cell meets my needs for now. However if I ever decide to expand on more home smart devices, I will have to bite the bullet. But as for now, it's not necessary. Most people have internet at home so setup will be breezy. This great speaker is a VERY nice alternative to Goggle Home. As of now (March 2018), this Insignia Voice Speaker doesn't make calls, send or read texts, but I did read somewhere that they are working on that now...so in the future it won't be an issue. As of now, the Goggle Home device does do that. I got mine at such a great price, it was worth buying. At regular price tho I would have most likely went with Goggle Home since it would be just a few bucks more.
