Best value overall for HomeKit Garage Door opener
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was curious whether this Insignia product would work as well as the Chamberlain MyQ products on an older LiftMaster opener. So far, it has worked almost perfectly for 2+ months. Installation was quick and easy, partly because I used an older Wi-Fi router configured for only 2.4GHz frequency. The Insignia is able to connect reliably with about 30 feet and two walls separating it from the router. Compared to a Chamberlain MyQ opener that is closer to the router, the Insignia is slower to respond and update its status, but not by much. The Insignia is, however, much less expensive than the MyQ products — about 30% of the cost to add HomeKit to MyQ. The comparative cost and performance of this Insignia product are such that I wish BestBuy would release more HomeKit products!

Good HomeKit garage door opener
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This HomeKit exclusive garage door opener works quite well !! It only took a few minutes to set up and get working. The only ‘con’ I can say about it is that it reduces the range of your garage door opener controllers! And it reduces the range quite a bit. Other than that, I really like it and would recommend it!!

Nice For People Aren't Home Often
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it without looking at the requirements, and the instructions say it wouldn't work without my garage door opener and because I didn't have a senor eye. But that wasn't the case, it works fine and it's great with the Homekit when I'm on trips or work and want to make sure the door is closed.

Not the most reliable but pretty okay.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has periods where it decides not to communicate and will show as offline. Other times it works fine. It seems to make no difference whether I go unplug it, it will resolve itself eventually on its own and then stop working again, seemingly at random. Other times, it lies about the status of the door. I don't believe this is a sensor issue, I believe Apple HomeKit is just not getting the updated status when it updates, due to the random offline periods. I gave up on making any "smart" automations that would, say, be sure to close my door at night, because multiple times it decided it was open and issued the "close" command which of course opened it and it was left open all night. I'd say probably 80% of the time, this functions correctly. Since it's completely dependent on Apple Homekit (there's no "Insignia app" or anything) I can't confirm if this is just Apple being flaky. I have an Apple TV at home to be a hub so it should always be able to connect even when I'm out of the home. In conclusion, buy this if you want to use the CarPlay integration where it'll show your garage door opener when you near your house, or to close your garage when you're walking down the street, and if you have other use cases where the failure of this thing would be a minor inconvenience. Don't buy it if you envision Apple HomeKit automations will simplify your life and make sure your door is closed when it's supposed to be, nor to open your garage from work so that a vital delivery can be delivered and then secured. You just can't trust it that much, and you'll never know if it even worked unless you also have a camera with eyes on it.

Got it working reliably
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the reviews and saw that some people were having issues with this going to no response after a couple of days or weeks. I ran into the same problem. But my issues were a little different as I would get 'no response' error on my iPhone, but my iPad, iMac and MacBook Pro would work just fine. I even tried to set it up on my iPad and the phone still got no response after a few days. But I would still no notifications on my Apple Watch, even though it showed 'No Response' Finally, I just left the name of the device alone. I didn't change the name or room, just let it be. I have yet to get a 'No Response for more than 20 minutes or so. We even had 2 power outages in the past 3 weeks, and it recovered just fine. If I did see a 'No Response' on my iPhone, it would clear within 20 minutes. But that has only happened twice since the last time I added it to my HomeKit. I do have an Apple TV 4K as my HomeKit hub. I do recommend this for anyone that wants to control their garage door through HomeKit.

Works as expected but...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was easy to install and setup with your apple device however that is part of the problem. While I own apple devices I also have android and the garage door opener is useless for those devices.

The best!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve wanted a smart garage opener and initially tried Nexxgarage. I tried installing and after 3 hours, I gave up! Too many wires and sensors has to be lined up perfectly in order to work. My main reasoning for Nexxgarage was because it allowed your garage to open automatically before you drove up without hitting the remote. It all sounds great on paper but if installing is a mess, it isn’t really worth it in my opinion. Purchased this one day, got it the very next day. Install took 20 mins because I had to re-sync the sensor and didn’t realize it. It works wonders and works great with HomeKit! I don’t know what I was doing going with anything else. Amazing purchase!

When it works it’s great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I installed this thanksgiving weekend. It worked amazing for the first 3 weeks. Set up was a breeze. I was wondering what all these people with the bad reviews were talking about. Then i kept getting the no response in home kit. I had to unplug- plug back and then it worked until it didn’t. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Then it worked until it didn’t. Sigh. I unplugged Apple TV hub and plugged back in and then it worked until it didn’t. You got the idea... I called the insignia customer support and was somewhat frustrated. They are aware of the problem and are working with apple. Sigh... probably would have been smart to have their own stand alone app to control when it doesn’t work with HomeKit. I’ll give it a little while longer. Until I can’t...

Surprised at how well it works...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to control my garage door using Homekit's framework and this garage opener by Insignia has the lowest entry point. I was a bit skeptical initially, since I have heard of other Insignia products being discontinued without any updates (mainly smart switches). This garage opener is a fraction of the cost of the competing product and it is easier to install. The directions were simple to follow. In less than 30 minutes, my garage door was being controlled from the home app. TIP: Install the sensor on the middle of the door as opposed to the upper right corner (as directions indicate) and it works flawlessly! No more issues with the updating of the sensor!

Simple installation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a home with an existing Craftsman brand garage door opener. The garage door opener was installed in 1998 and works perfectly. I found this insignia Wi-Fi smart garage door controller and installed this in about 30 minutes last night. I love that I did not have to download another useless app that I will never open except to operate the opener. This controller was easy to add into my Apple HomeKit as an accessory and now is operating very well. This was a very simple installation that did not require me to replace the garage door motor and all of its apparatus it just plugs into the receptacle next to the garage door motor.

Great Product.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: The device is easy to setup and integrate into the Apple Homekit. It works well and syncs with the door as soon as it opens or closes so you can always see the current status. The bad: I've had the unit either go offline or lose it's connection to the garage door sensor a couple times. I had to unplug and plug the unit back in to get it to connect and work again. This could absolutely be my network connection because of the metal that is near the unit so I don't want to say that it's an issue. Overall I've only had a couple times that I've had an issue and the rest of the time it has been working exactly the way it is supposed to work. Would recommend.

Works well and easy to install
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The installation took about 10 minutes and after six weeks of use, I am very happy. I use the controller with Apple's HomeKit and it works very well. If you use it in an Apple environment, you must have an Apple TV or HomePod to control the unit outside your home WiFi network. This is a security design by Apple. I set up an automation task so when I get near my home, my iPhone and/or Apple Watch ask if I want to open the door. Very handy!! Also, no longer wondering if you closed the door after driving away from home. Just look at the Home app and it will tell you the status of the garage door.

Works GREAT with Apple Homekit
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Converting our house to a Smarthome by adding this Garage Door Controller. Works great with Homekit, easy to install. Does have limitations on only working with certain Garage openers. We could use it on one of ours but not another (older model) Had only (1) issue where it came out of sync and was not showing correct status in Homekit but that was an easy fix. Love the automation feature in Homekit. I can say "Hey Siri" Arrive home and the door is open just as I'm ready to pull in.

Works as advertised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit works well. Installation was easy. Unfortunately, it only works with iPhones. For remote access, I need to use my iPad as a hub. Hopefully, insignia at least will get it to work with their app.

Works good except...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Make sure you have a strong WiFi signal that reaches your garage or add a WiFi booster. Also, only issue occurs when the door sensor battery dies... You can test at the door sensor but if you don’t know that’s the problem then the HealthKit shows that garage opener is “not responding”. Just an FYI... it means you need a new battery. Hopefully they’ll be some communication to indicate to you a status when the battery is low in future releases… But, this is a very good product and I recommend it.

An inexpensive have a Smart Garage
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little add on here is an inexpensive way to add smart capabilities to your existing garage door opener. It only work with Apple Home Kit. I was looking for a way to connect my garage door opener online. The My Q system is way too expensive and complex compared to this one. I had this for a while and I had to remove it and add it to My home twice in 1 year, other than that it works at advertise. I mainly use it to check and make sure I closed the garage after leaving home (some time I forget or have no recollection of closing the garage).

Doesn’t replace the OEM MyQ Bridge
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have multiple garage doors and you’re looking to control them with Apple HomeKit / Siri, this is not for you. This would work for a single garage door. If you have multiple doors, you’ll need one for each. It has extra hardware ( a separate sensor ) that needs to be mounted and hardwired on each door motor to operate. It does not work like the OEM Chamberlain / Liftmaster MyQ Home Bridge which is a single unit that interfaces with the MyQ app to control up to 15 MyQ activated doors / accessories with no additional hardware other than the main hub. (Even if your garage door is MyQ Wi-Fi enabled and you are using the MyQ app, you still need this home bridge for Apple HomeKit control.). This all was not clear when I researched it. In summary, for a single door, this is an ok unit but it does have extra hardware that needs to be installed. For multiple doors, get the OEM MyQ Home Bridge. Giving it three stars because it did not work the way I had anticipated.

Unreliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item is unreliable, for example you open the garage door and then you can't close it. You will need to push the green light/button to reset it and then it will work. It is basically useless because if you count on it to open your garage door as you're coming back home it may not work and you're locked out of your garage. There is another issue and that is with HomeKit. Without an iPad or AppleTV you won't be able to access it remotely. HomeKit relies on an iPad or AppleTV running HomeKit in your home to relay the commands to the unit. Not a deal breaker but without HomeKit in your home you won't be able to access the Garage door controller to see if your garage door is open or closed. Kind of one of the reasons to have the Garage Door Controller. I did not return it to the store, after it was installed did not feel like hassling with removing it. It does work just very unreliable.

Great addition to my garage door opener
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a device that would work with my garage door and Apple home kit. This device required no extra hubs like others devices did. Simple to install and works great I can say hey Siri open garage and it just works. Then send me a notification when it is triggered. The only trouble had was making sure the unit was in clear line of site of sensor that attaches to the garage. After trial and error I got it working

Good for HomeKit, meh for features
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really liked how this integrates with Apple HomeKit. That was a big win for me and mostly it worked great. I liked that I was able to automate opening the door when I arrived home, though it often didn’t seem to initiate and it was annoying that I had to unlock my phone or use my watch to kick off the automation. Easier to just open it manually. Compared to another smart opener I have, this thing is mediocre on features. The biggest missing feature is garage door open warnings. The other magnetic-based smart opener I have does this and it is very precise. Sometimes my garage gets stuck maybe only a couple of minutes inches off the ground. It will send me a notification that my door is open. Super helpful. This product can’t do that. In the end I returned it. Just wasn’t quite what I wanted.
