I have learned to purchase the replacement protection on this kind of item, since they never last the full 12 months of the protection plan, and it is worth $6 to avoid paying another $20 each time one of them dies. Not sure what earbuds do last under heavy use unless you pay $50 or more.

I find the ones sold at the grocery stores and megastores to be better quality; however, the flat earpieces are not as popular.
