    Scream! Factory does it again

It is no secret that, as a somewhat avid fan of 1970s-80s horror, I love Scream! Factory. They continuously give us previously unreleased classic horror flicks in glorious 1080p HD, all cleaned up and spiffy for our viewing enjoyment. Some of you may have noticed that MGM has already released this 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers in the blu-ray format several years back, at a price point that's difficult to refuse. The difference here is primarily one of quality, and this version puts your fancy High Definition home theatre to better use than the original release does. As for the movie itself, if you like the idea of conformist alien pod people hatching (no pun intended) a clandestine operation to take over the earth-- then this movie may be for you. Also if you like Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, Leonard Nimoy, a very cute Brooke Adams, and a dog with a human face, purchase this film immediately!

This Sci-Fi Horror classic has NEVER looked better than it does on this disc, period. It won’t convince you it was filmed yesterday, but it shouldn’t anyhow. It should be presented in the highest quality possible from the film stock it was shot on, and thankfully, that is the case here. This is a great example of how 4K can make older films look spectacular. The audio is nice and clear, and all the extra features are ported over from recent Blu-ray releases, so you won’t be losing anything if you’re upgrading. Highly recommended!

    AS Good As The Original

It is not necessary to sing the praises of the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Anyone who enjoyed that one should be pleased by the 1978 re-make. On the whole I rarely find a re-make to be near as good as the original, and usually they are unbelievably bad. This is the exception! With a good cast (Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams) and biting social commentary (Leonard Nimoy plays a '70's style self-help guru in a hilarious turn, but played perfectly straight) this works as a semi-comedy, a social tongue-in-cheek social satire AND as a good old fashioned sci-fi/horror movie. Kevin McCarthy (who starred in the original) has a cameo as basically the same character 20 years on trying to warn of the invasion. Don Siegel (director of the original) also has a cameo as a cab driver. While it does lose some of its momentum towards the end, the ending is still one that fans talk about today. If they remember nothing else, they remember that. Definitely worth seeing. PARTICULARLY if you find it in a remainder bin or on sale as I did.

    Body Snatchers!

Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a 1978 science fiction horror film directed by Philip Kaufman, and starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy. Released on December 20, 1978, it is a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), which is based on the novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. The plot involves a San Francisco health inspector and his colleague who discover that humans are being replaced by alien duplicates; each is a perfect copy of the person replaced, only devoid of human emotion.

Scream Factory serve up another fine example of what collector's are looking for in complete blu ray packages. The transfer looks stunning, preserving that fine grain of a film that's nearly 40 years old. SF ports over all special features from the previous MGM blu release, while contributing newly commissioned interviews with the cast and crew. Oh, and the movie? Gory, cheesy 70s sci-fi at its finest. Highly recommended.

    Classic Remake Done Right

I forgot how great this movie is. I see why it's a classic in it's own terms, even though is it a remake (which the original is good as well). But this film is chalked full of great performances (Donald Sutherland, Leonard Nemoy, and Jeff Goldblum) and thrilling dramatic action. Let's just hope this never actually happens in the real world cause I don't want a copy of myself being boring and not silly.

The extras on this are great! I had 2 previous releases and this is totally worth the triple dip. Best trasfer/ picture too. Can't think of any other movie that exudes a fearful smothering sense of paranoia like this one. Maybe The Thing. Sutherland and Brooke Adam's are great. Special FX still stand up after all these years. Better than CGI. Classic low let alien horror.

Scream Factory has released a collector's edition of this movie with tons of new special features, so if you're a super big fan of the movie, consider buying that version instead. It is about twice as expensive though, so if you want this cheaper edition, it's still a really good presentation of the movie with some decent special features as well. All special features on this disc are also on the Scream Factory disc, so there's no reason to own both.

I grew up watching the original b/w movie version and saw this in the movies as a young teen, really really enjoyed this remake and always wanted to pickup the bluray version. Great scary flick and love the Donald Sutherland character. Interesting to note the star from the original movie Kevin McCarthy makes a cameo in this one. Enjoy with a big bowl of popcorn!

I was having guest coming over Halloween night and I was to pick a scary movie for later. I own a lot of horror movie's but not necessary scary. So I went looking and I found this 1978 version, the original is good, but this is far more scarier and creepy. Donald Sutherland is terrific and Leonard Nimoy (Spock) is good too. Everyone enjoyed .

This is an excellent re-make of the original sci-fi film of the same name. Both have their signature "chills-up-your spine" moments. The best scene (for me) in this version is the barking dog near the end...wow! Still creeps me out after all these years. Highly recommended for a good scare!
