Very durable speaker, but doesn’t get as loud as you’d expect. Have had in the rain and near splashing water and still works great.

In the box you will find – the speaker, power cable, microphone with cable, a 3.5 aux cable and a quick guide booklet. The speaker is on the large side, but surprisingly not that heavy in my opinion. It has a hand slot on the back so that you can easily pick it up and move it to where you like and it is well-built for weather outside as well as partying inside. This is Bluetooth enabled so that you can connect to your Bluetooth enabled smart phone or an mp3 player for your listening pleasure or you can connect via an aux audio port and the 3.5 aux cable that comes with this speaker. It also has an AM/FM radio for listening to music or news and weather. You can store up to 10 of your favorite radio stations! We lose power a lot where I am located, so it will be nice to be able to listen to the local radio station to find out what it going on out in the world in my immediate area. This speaker is water resistant. It won’t be affected if you are outside and get caught in a quick shower or you are by the pool. It seems very well sealed just for this purpose. It takes about 3 hours for a full charge and you get about 25-30 hours of play time depending on the volume you have it at, of course. I like that this comes with a microphone, if you like karaoke this will do the job. The microphone has a pretty decent sound, but you need to have your mouth right on the mic and if you move the mic away the slightest bit your voice gets lost. It is not a high-quality mic but definitely good for the average fun singer or kids. The mic has an on/off switch. This can also be used as a PA system in case you are in need of one. This might be good for teaching a class in a large room, so that you could reach those people way in the back, not professional, but it can service that purpose well. The sound on this speaker is very good. The bass is excellent considering it does not have a sub-woofer and as long as you have the bass boost on. There is a USB port on the speaker also. If your phone is low on battery life you can easily charge it with this speaker. Just remember that you will reduce the amount of life on the speaker battery by doing this, but since you get more than enough battery life on the speaker it could serve you well. With this purchase, you are getting so much more for your money than just a speaker, especially with all the features this speaker has. I personally think this will be great using it for Karaoke parties (once I get a new mic), tailgate parties, music listening outside on the patio, using it as a PA system, etc. I am giving 4 stars because I was disappointed with the mic (although what more could you expect for a free microphone) and I had a difficult time and took about 5 tries to Bluetooth it to my phone, not to mention how hard it is to peel the protective tape from the front display screen, as seen on my attached photos.

As I was unpacking the speaker, I was very impressed with the weight, it was very light and portable. Although it was light weight it was very solid and sturdy, did not feel cheap at all. I unpacked and plugged it in and it was pre-charged so it did not take too long to fully charge the speaker. On a full charge the company states 50 hours and I am on 20 hours on and off and only one bar was used. The power supply is on the back of the unit covered by a rubber cover to prevent water from entering while being used outdoors. The unit is IPX5 water resistant which is great for use by the pool during the summer. I usually use my small bluetooth speaker, but now that I have this one I will be using it next summer by the pool and also bring it when we go to the beach. Did I mention how impressed I am, it small, light weight and extremely portable. The buttons are very intuitive and it was extremely easy to set up. All of the ports were easy to locate because they were labeled well and covered to protect from moisture. The only thing that I did not like (reason for the 4 stars) was the knobs for the mic and volume. They are loose and can easily move, it would have been great if it was a little more tactile like ticks everytime you move it one level. Other than that the button are all covered to prevent moisture and are easy to press and are reactive. The display is clear and simple with all the universal symbols for bluetooth, battery charge level and power. I must also say that I was very surprised to see that it had AM/FM radio and the reception indoors/outdoors was very impressive. I connected my phone via bluetooth and the sound was pretty good for the size. Initially it thought it could have a little more Bass, but then I saw the button for Bass booster and turned it on and was impressed with the sound considering the size. I tested bluetooth, radio and then connected the MIC that was included. It was pretty loud once you adjusted the speaker settings, it will do in a small crowd. This speaker is great because it also has an audio input, which is great because I have a projector and watch movies outside during the summers so I will try hooking this up and see how well it works. This way I don't have to carry all my speakers inside and outside. Another thing that impressed me was that it has a USB charger port so you can charge your devices while its connected playing music. The unit has an impressive 50 watts, but could use a little more Bass. Overall, I am very impressed with the size, material and portability of this unit and the sound. I can't wait to bring it to the tailgate parties!!! This is a nice purchase if you are looking for a portable, inexpensive speaker. It has a lot to offer in a small package.

I really like this speaker. It isn’t too big that you would have trouble carrying it to wherever you are going to setup, but it has decent volume and a great battery. It has features such as a charging port, built in radio, and microphone that set it apart from regular Bluetooth speakers. Pros - Great battery life. I got tired before it did. I can’t verify the 50hr claim, but I have played it for about 10hrs and charged my phone with 50-75% remaining. - USB port for charging devices works great and proved to be very useful. It charged my iPhone quickly with no issues. - It has a handle built into the back. - It has a metal grill covering the speaker, rubber covers for every port, and it is made of thick plastic. I think it could stand up to some abuse. - It has good volume and bass. It comes with a mic and aux cable. Sources are mixed so you can speak over music or play other sounds. - Bluetooth setup was easy and it supports linking via NFC. There was no static or connection loss even when 10-15 feet away from the speaker. - Controls are intuitive and well labeled. Love the big manual volume knob. Things to consider - This speaker is probably better suited for a small-medium group. It can get loud, but it doesn’t have the power to cover a large area. You can link more than one together (I didn’t try this, but there is a button for it and I am sure it is straight forward based on the other controls). - The mic is more for karaoke or maybe announcements. It is not pro-grade. It is sometimes hard to hear over the music if the input device’s volume is high and the quality is just ok. - It has a radio, but reception was mixed. Inside my house about a third of the FM stations in my area were lost. Outside and inside my open frame garage I had no issues. I would recommend. For a casual party with a few friends, this speaker is a great choice and I found every feature useful.

Simple, but Rugged & Feature Rich

This portable Ion Audio speaker feels generic, but is an excellent value. This speaker is priced low and is still packed with features. The audio sounds rather tinny and hollow, but because it includes so many features at such a low price, I cannot help but fully endorse it. The speaker is portable, water resistant, has a rechargeable battery that lasts the ENTIRE day, has an AM/FM radio, a Microphone input, 3.5mm aux input, bluetooth connectivity, NFC pairing, a USB input to charge external devices, the battery can be replaced, it is lightweight while still having a sturdy / rugged design, a clear and easy to read display, and decent bass. For the price, it will truly be difficult to find anything comparable. Initially, I wasn’t particularly impressed by the sound quality, but because the speaker is so rugged and convenient - it has become our go-to speaker for impromptu karaoke sessions with our 5 year old, listening to the radio outside while my wife gardens, and throwing into the trunk of our car to ensure we always have a speaker for the pool, or beach. If you are searching for a rugged & versatile speaker that doesn’t break the bank - this speaker is an excellent choice. Pros: + Low price + Rugged Design + Portable + Water resistant + Rechargeable battery + Battery lasts for literally more than an entire day + Clear & Easy to Read Display (which includes the current battery level) + USB port allows charging of phones & other devices + Has a Microphone input with separate volume control (Microphone is included) + NFC connectivity makes Bluetooth set-up simple + Battery is easily accessible and can be replaced + Built in Handle + Rubberized feet + Bass Boost + Comes with charging cable, 3.5mm auxiliary cable, and wired microphone. Cons: - Audio Quality sounds tinny and a bit hollow - The usb port charges devices very slowly - No external antenna means it can struggle to receive a clear radio signal - Does not have any compartment to store charging cable, auxiliary input cable, or microphone - Bluetooth connectivity can be difficult for devices without NFC feature (NFC = Near Field Communication) - The speaker plays from all inputs at all times. It is up to the user to ensure only one signal is being sent to the speaker (otherwise the radio can play while the aux input plays, etc). - No ability to answer phone calls - Only once handle in the back (which makes carrying the speaker slightly awkward and unbalanced)

50 watts of power crisp clear speakers can pump out enough music at a 77Hz - 20kHz frequency response with a to keep everybody rockin at your nest tailgater at the ballgame or on the deck for your nest cookout party. Bluetooth or near frequency stream or direct hookup with a male to male cord your favorite device loaded with music or flip over to the built in radio with your choice of AM or FM to listen to music or pick up the game while your away from the television. And should the situation come up that you need a PA system to make announcements etc, the included microphone will let you do that as well . You can even charge your phone or pad from a built in USB charging port located on the ION Sport. Dont worry about about a little rain or a splash from poolside use, as its IPX4 water-resistant.

ION Audio - Sport Tailgate Portable PA Speaker packed a punch, loud clear highs, with BASS BOOST, it really rocked. Feel the drums!Don't just hear them, Comes with a full size microphone, plugs in on the left. Input for the included 3.5 -mm audio connector. USB3 charging port on the right. Sealed for water resistance. Realistic and true to the music sound reproduction. Use it as a PA speaker, the microphone is crisp and clear. Adjustable mic input for karaoke like uses. Rechargeable internal battery lasted all day. Great tailgate sound machine. Bluetooth paired quick and reliably. Saves a lot of frustration. Nice rubber feet. Long AC cord plugs in the back for instant use and recharging. My only gripe is the plastic press on that covers the front bezel. I had a heck of a time removing it from under the two (2) volume knobs.

ION Sport Tailgate Speaker ION has released another "tailgate" speaker for 2019, the "Sport Tailgate". This one appears to replace last year's "Tailgater Sport", so don't get confused over the naming convention. This year's ION Sport is the medium sized unit of 3 new tailgate speakers, and packs an intermediate punch. The package comes with the Speaker, 7.5-ft corded mic, 2-ft male-male auxiliary 3.5mm cable, 5.5-ft power cable, and user guide. The speaker weighs approximately 14 lbs. The manufacturer warranty is 90 days. PROS: ----------- * The best feature is its ruggedness and durability. It's very well built, construction-wise. * Lots of great features including radio, bluetooth (BT), AUX 3.5mm input, microphone, built-in handle, and long-lasting battery. ION claims "several days of use" for the battery life; however, posting the number of hours available would be better. * Allows for charging another device via USB port (5V @1Amp). Slow charging, but better than nothing. * Durable built-in handle on the back/top side (see picture of back of unit). When carrying, the unit will tilt a bit which could be a little awkward at times if carried for longer distances due to weight. * The front of the unit has a metal mesh cover to protect the speaker drivers. If dented, it will really stand out as damaged so be careful with the front. * Buttons are easy to press and well-built. Display is informative enough for this product (battery level, power on, radio station). Mic/Master volume dials are solid and responsive. * When BT-connected, the play/pause and rew/ff buttons are useful for maneuvering between tracks. * All external ports are snugly covered to keep water out. * Can utilize NFC to connect new BT devices. This function worked very well. I used a Samsung Galaxy Fold for BT connectivity. CONS: ----------- * The built-in radio antenna may be to small, poor design, or the hardware used may be 2nd-class. It does ok, but static is a problem at times especially when other devices/radios in the same location sound better. * This is a 2-way speaker system (woofer/mid-range tweeter). That's fine; however, the quality of sound coming out of this unit is average but not distorted either. Compared to smaller BT units by other well-known manufacturers, this speaker does not sound nearly as good. But for most of those other speakers, you are also paying for the technology inside those units (which creates the better sound) along with the brand. For this product, the price point matches the sound quality. With this unit, you get a sub-par radio, decent mic, and very good ruggedness. It will take a lot to hurt this tailgate speaker. * The unit has a "bass boost" button, but it didn't really give the boost you would expect. It's a mild increase in the higher lows and mid-bands, so it causes a little distortion in the voices in songs when played at high volume levels. When playing at high volumes, to me, it sounds better with the bass boost OFF as the sound is balanced more. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------------------------------- * The mic is a good add; however, if your voice is going to project louder, the user may have to cup his/her hand around the mic and put the mic close to their mouth to really elevate the voice volume. This will depend on the surrounding noise and if there is music playing on the unit as well. * Strangely enough, there is no "single" function for this unit. I have never seen this before. The user can have every function turned on at once - Bluetooth, Mic, Radio, and AUX connection - and have them all going at the same time. Yes, 4 different audio sources playing at once. For the BT and AUX connections, those volume levels can be controlled separately but still go through the "master" volume on the ION. Same with the Mic - it can be adjusted but still ON for any function. * The back has a screwed-on compartment. I assume this is where the rechargeable battery can be taken out and replaced by another ION battery if necessary. If so, this is a good feature to have if the battery completely dies and can't be recharged. Most other portable BT speakers have the battery embedded in the unit and can't be replaced. I did not open to verify as sometimes this can void the warranty. CONCLUSION: =================== Overall, this is a good tailgate speaker as its name clearly states. To me, it is more for hooking up to a TV for AUX audio to boost sound of a sports telecast rather than listening to music in high quality. If I'm looking for something that has great clarity, bass, mid-range/highs, I would probably go with another speaker/system altogether. This speaker would be used more for a "don't care" environment - somewhere where you just want some music or background noise (outside). I definitely would go with other options indoors due to audio quality. Seeing as this is a "tailgate" type of speaker, it should serve its purpose as such. Audio still needs to be better though, and the radio reception needs improvement. This speaker just needs a little more refinement to be a 5-star product.

Great speaker for outdoor activities. Rubberized closed- structure to be used outdoor. Light weight, excellent quality, buttons are easy to use, variety of medi playing; BT, 3.5 port, radio, link to add more ION speakers, and mic. Sound is surprisingly loud and clear and has bass boost option. I have placed it in my garage for good time listening while working.

I can't say enough positive things about this speaker. It's a big ol' bluetooth boom box designed to turn any hohum into Wooha! It's simple in design and easy to set up. The music goes on for hours on a single charge and if you have two of these on hand, you can link them up for even more sound. It's got bass boost in there, making it thump that much more. And and AM/FM radio to boot. I didn't even mention the microphone that comes in the box or even the fact that it's water-resistant. I'm done. Stop reading this and go place it into your cart. The ION Sport Tailgate Speaker is an impressive solid Bluetooth outdoor speaker that can handle the elements backed by all-day battery life. Build quality is very solid that should handle the outdoors like a champ. If you’re caught by a sudden rainstorm the IPX5 has you covered. Features: Besides being a Bluetooth speaker you also get AM/FM radio onboard without the need for an external antenna to function. You have 20 presets to save your favorite stations. Signal wise it does a good job of locking in. The unit itself also has a full-size USB port to charge your device and a microphone input. ION also was nice enough to pack in a microphone to take advantage of it. With this feature, it’s an excellent speaker to bring along for an event to be used as a PA Speaker or a karaoke machine. Battery life is very impressive. I had the speaker playing outside with a mixture of FM radio and streaming music from my phone fo over 10hrs with just 1 drop of battery level which meant it still had 75% left of battery life. It definitely has the power to keep up with the pre-game party and the after-party for those long tailgate parties. Sound Quality: With 50watts of power, it can get very loud with a decent amount of bass. As far as sound quality goes it’s not bad but since it’s more an outdoor speaker the main thing here is loudness which it does accomplish. If you’re an audiophile person you will be left disappointed. For outdoors it does a good job of adding music to your event. Overall sound quality is decent for being an outdoor speaker. Overall ION has made sure to bring all the necessary features to make it the ultimate tailgate speaker. From the long battery life, powerful sound and PX5 certified for those sudden downpours. If you’re looking for a wireless speaker to bring along to the next event that can keep up with you the ION Sport Tailgate should be on top of your list.

Great (PA) - Good Enough (MUSIC) - Bad (FM)

Review ION SPORT TAILGATER SPEAKER Best Buy Tech Insider Network Review Program Summary: Great for certain uses, Good Enough for others, Bad for some Unboxing Impression: The box makes this look huge (which I was worried about), but once I got this unboxed, I was pleasantly surprised that it was not overly large. Easy to unbox and unpack. My only minor complaint is that the protective plastic film over the display was hard to peel off from around the knobs. Not a big deal. Ease of Use: I was quickly able to turn it on, use the included microphone, FM radio and pair it to my phone for playback of audio. No instructions needed (though they are included) Overall Performance: I found the microphone quality and sound fantastic! So, if you need an affordable PA (Public Address) system, this unit is very good out of the box, nothing else needed. FM reception (as many reviews have noted) is between bad and very bad. Even though I could tune to a station, they all sounded like a transistor radio with a broken antenna. Blue Tooth Streaming was easy and worked from a good distance, but the sound quality was only average. I have to confess that I am very fussy about audio, and especially in the mid to high range. It is fine for thumping base, but not so great for an instrumental for example. So here, you have to ask what you want it for? Tailgating = Fine. Chamber Music on the Patio = Meh. PA = Great. Features: 50 Hour Battery = GREAT, USB Charging = GREAT Price: Again, it comes down to usage. You can get better, well rounded sounding Bluetooth speakers, but at a premium price. This makes a great PA system at a fraction of the typical costs. You won’t get something with 50 hours battery life for a better price. Conclusion: Overall an average all around performer at a decent price. If I’m going to a small gathering I would probably bring my premium Bluetooth speaker for music. If I’m going to a tailgate or karaoke party, then I would probably bring this, which is what is was designed for. I would recommend it for its functionality and PA performance, but not so much listening to nuanced music.
