Pro: -2 metal plate include -Simple no damage installation Con: -Blocks wireless charging -Too big to fully fit ac vent -Blocks one ac vent Nice and simple clip and tighten lock. The clip is a bit too big to fully fit in my car’s (Honda CR-V) ac vent to be fully stable, but it’s good enough so that it doesn’t wobble too much. With my iPhone 8+, it does put some pressure on the plastic air vents, but it shouldn’t be too much to damage it. The magnet is strong enough to hold a plus size phone. Comes with two metal plates, a small one for using on the outside of a case, or a bigger one to be used between the phone and case. The plates will block wireless charging so you have to attach it near the bottom, but then mounting your phone sideways isn’t possible.

I really like this vent mount due to its super powerful magnets and vent clips that hold your phone securely when you're in the car. The only thing I would say is if you have a wallet case on like an iPhone XS Max (a big phone!) it has a hard time holding it up straight in the car if you have the plate in the centre of the phone. If you have it offset to the top it does a lot better but I don't think it was designed with that much weight in mind. In a normal case, it does fine enough for me and would definitely recommend it if you've never tried one of these. In fact, before now I'd never really tried one of these as I was sceptical of it holding but it does that just fine and would fit most vents in most cars.

The iOttie - iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount for Select Cell Phones - Silver/Black was a surprise as it is super strong compared to many other magnetic vent holders I have tried. I currently have the iPhone Xs with a hefty case on it. Most magnetic holders just can't hold the weight, but the iOttie holds on for the ride! My phone has never fallen off and holds tight! The iOttie is small and well designed to be strong yet minimal in space. The 2 metal plate options give the user options for case or no case usage. PROS - Great product and design! - It actually works! Bonus! - Small design make is easy to place and not in the way. - Two metal plates deisgned for case or no case usage. CONS - None at this time!

    Magnets make it easier...

This comes in two models, one with the suction cup and one with the vent mount, if you dont have a suitable vent in your car then get the suction which can work on your window or dash. The thing that sets these apart in my opinion is the use of a magnet. I placed the included metal plate on the inside of my phone case. There is sufficient magnet strength to mount my phone with ease. The great thing about it is, you hit the mark every time and just place your phone on the surface and BOOM, you are good to go. For those who use a Qi charger (which I do for my iPhone Xs) have no fear, mine worked perfectly with the metal plate in the case. Overall a simple and easy way to mount your phone in your car.

I’ve had this for a few days now and have had the chance to use it in various locations in my vehicle and my wife’s. Initially I didn’t think this was going to work for me for two reasons. First, because I tend to switch phones every year and I have a personal and work phone that I planned to use this with. Secondly, I thought the weight of my iPhone XS Max would cause this to fall or tilt down too far for me to use. I’m happy to say that both of my concerns were found to be invalid. This mount comes with a magnet that you apply to the back of your phone, but if you use a case, which I always do, you are supposed to apply it to the case. As I said previously, I tend to switch phones annually and I use multiple phones, one of which is for work. Instead of attaching the magnet to the case, I simply put it in the top of the case without removing the tape, put the case on and so far it has yet to fall off the mount. I was pleasantly surprised at how strong the magnet is and how well it kept my phone in place. The second concern was dealing with the weight of the phone. Initially I had the mount installed horizontally and with it installed that way, the weight of the phone caused the mount to keep tilting down even after tightening the ring. I simply turned the mount to face vertically which is when I found out that the mount can be tilted as well. After adjusting the tilt and tightening the ring, I’ve been able to keep the phone at the ideal angle and securely attaching my phone to the magnet. From some other reviews I’ve read that you can actually buy additional magnets when you swap phones, but I have no desire to do that or to have a magnet attached to the back of my phone. There are some cheaper options available, but after discovering that the magnet will still hold without being securely attached to the case or phone, I find this to be an excellent vent mount. I highly recommend this mount.

    Good magnetic vent mount

Thie iOttie iTap 2 Magnetic Car Vent Mount is a simple device designed to attach to the louvers of your car’s AC vent and securely hold your cell phone while you drive. It slips over the fins of the louvre and locks into place creating a solid mount for your phone. The mount contains a strong magnet which holds the phone in place by its attraction to a steel plate glued to your phone or phone case. Installing the mount onto the vent is a quick and easy process. Just slip the mount over the vent’s fin and turn the locking collar to secure. Next, peel the backing from one of the included steel plates and stick it onto your phone or phone case. They even include a larger plate designed to be placed inside your phone case hiding it from view. The mount functions as it should. My only complaint is the fingers that grip the vent are a bit large and distorted the fins of my VW Jetta’s vent. I suspect this is a design compromise, as thinner fingers might flex and not grip securely. Overall a nice product that works as it should.

Strong, Sleek, & Easy to Use

Testing of this product has been an answer to a problem I was having as a resident of Texas. I use maps to go Anywhere, and in my state, you are not allowed to text and drive. I take this as don't touch your phone while driving to be safe and legal. Out of the box you get two pieces; a magnet and a vent clip magnet base. The magnets claim to be Rare-Earth (? sounds fancy) and safe for your phone. I can confirm after 1 month of daily use my phone seems to be unaffected in the least. I am still always paranoid about magnets around things like credit cards, computers, and whatever else so, of my own fruition it made sense to have the magnet on my "Car" protective case (not recommended, simply making my circumstances clear). I affixed the phone magnet which is Slim and hardly noticeable to my phone case and then put the twist lock vent clip snugly on my vent. Once the phone is attached the phone is LOCKED in place and I am hard pressed to believe that it is ever going to move without my yanking it off. I am more worried about my vents, every time I remove my phone (kidding but seriously, these magnets aren't playing around).

Best vent car mount that I have had

As my Acura RDX 2019 doesn't have a CD player and I am still waiting for Android Auto support, I wanted a car mount for my phone mainly for Google maps. I tried couple of other options (Anker, Beam etc) but nothing worked as well as this one. The setup was pretty simple. I installed the small magnetic plate inside the cover of my Samsung Galaxy S9+. Then installed the mount in the air vent and voila I was done. I have had it for more than a month and it's been working great. The problem that I used to have with earlier mounts is that they used keep getting lose and my phone will fall while driving. It seems to fit the air vent like glove and haven't moved even a bit since installation. The magnets are strong so once I put the phone on it, it doesn't move at all. In fact, I have to use a slight bit of force to get it off the mount. I was apprehensive that the magnetic plate might interfere with the wireless charging (there was a warning in the instructions manual) but thankfully, it didn't. Overall, I am really happy with this little guy.

    Strong Magnet and Quality Materials

The iOttie - iTap 2 is constructed of high quality materials and has one of the stronger magnetic attachments I had used. It's locking ball swivel allows for a custom adjustment of the angle of the phone for viewing preference and comfort. Included are two self adhesive metal plates to pick from that are to be placed on the back of the phone or case if your using a case. With a really thin case I have even just laid the plate inside the case without sticking it to anything and it worked fine with other magnetic mounts. Thicker cases not so much. This particular mount works better in my 2008 Subaru Outbacks vent than it does in the 2015 Toyota Corollas vent. The way the vent and dash are constructed, there is no way for any of the mount to rest on the dash and support the weight of the mount with the phone attached. So the vent blows at a downward angle and not on myself when driving. This may or may not be a problem for you and your vehicle. But with that being said I still recommend this mount and feel its an excellent product.

The iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount is a terrific device. My wife's car does not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, so we have been using a different vent mount for awhile. The other vent mount operates by a friction grip, which makes it much more difficult to mount the phone. With the magnetic grip, you simple place the phone on the mount, and it stays in position. I also appreciate the fact you can screw it down to lock onto the vent slats very tightly. It comes with 2 different magnets; one for outside the phone case and one for inside the phone case. Use one per phone - they are not meant to be used together on the same phone. We've tried several solutions with my wife's car. This is far and away our favorite. My wife was thrilled with how well it gripped and how easy it is to use.

    Better suited for horizontal vents

I have an iPhone 6 Plus and tried this in my SUV's vertical vents. Install was quick and easy. But the vents tended to move around too much as this mount could not prevent them from turning. On a horizontal vent, I suspect the phone itself will rest slightly on the dashboard, preventing movement. Otherwise it's a good, solid, simple to use cell phone holder.

    Minimal Space / Outstanding Support

iOttie has hit it out of the ballpark with this cell phone mount. It is an improved version of their original air vent mount, with 2 magnets and a clamp to secure it to your car's a/c fins. I have an iPhone 8 Plus with case, and the ITap 2 has no issues with holding the phone flush to my car without dropping. I prefer this mount much more than the dash mount, because ultimately, the Georgia heat has an adverse effect on holding a dashboard mount to the dashboard. Using an air vent mount also keeps the phone itself from overheating. This is my go to mount.

This thing does exactly what it was advertised to do. The vent clip mounts easy enough and stays right where you put it. The magnets for the back of your phone are also VERY strong! They had much more force than I expected and allow me to put my phone on the clip in portrait or landscape orientation. The magnetic adhesive so far has been good and I have used it while in the car multiple times over the past week. If you are looking for something with a strong magnet and two magnets to allow for multiple phones to be used this is a solid product.

    Improvements on a classic design

There's nothing ground-breaking about this product, it just improves a classic design for magnetic air vent phone holders which is one of my favorite types of car phone holder designs. Here's the two main benefits of this unit compared to my older unit: 1) Much smaller magnetic base connector plate compared to my other unit and overall better looking. It is less obvious when your phone isn't connected that it is sitting there. 2) Much stronger clamp/pressure on the air vent. We are talking the same crushing strength of a bear or alligator. It won't fall off like my old one would sometimes and it doesn't even need a clamp. It had an extra metal plate that is supposed to go on the outside of the case, but I don't think its necessary. Just put a magnetic or the metal plate on the inside of your case and you will be good to go. Pro-tip: If you use the small plate on an iPhone X/s and position it just above the Apple logo, you can still use wireless charging although at reduced efficiency. If you are a big fan of air vent magnetic phone holders, you can't go wrong with this design from iOttie.
