Really good quality. Strong enough to hold a table. Unfortunately I own a 12.9 iPad Pro when I pass a bump or pothole it drops the tablet but is because it’s to heavy. But for smallers tablets o cellphones it will work perfectly

I just got a new used truck with a CD holder and I bought this to put my iPad mini. I have all my two thousand iTunes music, audiobooks & podcast on the mini and that's all I listen to. It covers the radio which I don't play anyway and use the steering wheel volume control. The mount is strong enough to hold the mini and I wouldn't doubt would hold most any iPad.

I was sick of laying my phone down over my cupholders to have it close by. This phone mount is perfect for my Lexus RX, which has a CD player slot (which goes unused). Now I don't have to look away from the road to view my navigation, or any important alerts that pop up. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the magnetic sticker goes on the back, below the MagSafe charger magnet. I've used it for 4 months and the label is peeling at the corners and the magnet is losing some paint. To me, this is only cosmetic and the functionality is what matters.

Solid Mount for CD Drive

The iOttie CD Mount is made to slide into an EMPTY CD slot in your car in order to be able to utilize a good spot for your cell phone while driving. This can be hit or miss depending on the vehicle that you drive. The iOttie CD mount comes with the mount itself, a small metal plate, a large metal plate, clear plastic protective sheet, black adapter clip, and instructions/warranty (1-year).
DISCLAIMER: I used this product in a 2017 Nissan Frontier truck. I used both a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and a Samsung FOLD for testing purposes.
PROS:
-----------
* The design is very simple and easy to use and install
* Extremely durable build. High-quality materials, feels solid, does not have a cheap feel
* Magnets hold device in place extremely well in portrait orientation
* Ability to angle device to the perfect viewing angle in any direction is great
* The design will allow, in most cases, your phone to not block any air vents
* If the initial installation fit is too loose, the small adapter piece will cause the middle "wing" to push up further to keep in place better.
* The Samsung FOLD has a thick metal bar/hinge down the center of the back of the phone. I was able to adjust the FOLD to any angle as the magnets attached nicely to the very center of the back of the phone. It worked great in both landscape and portrait orientation AND no metal plates have to be used. This was a huge plus. Keep in mind that I have no case on the FOLD and it's heavy for a hand-held device.
CONS:
-----------
* Depending on your vehicle, your phone may or may not cover something important (A/C controls or stereo). Where you put the metal plate will also impact viewing area - if the metal plate is on the bottom of your phone, only the area above the CD player slot is impacted. However, if you put the metal plate in the center of your phone, then you'll have 1/2 of your phone sticking out (top/bottom) and blocking 2 things.
* Obviously, is you listen to CDs, this will not work. The CD slot must be empty to use effectively
* Though magnets hold well, keep in mind that if the metal plate is installed on the bottom of the back of a bigger phone, it may be more difficult to maintain a horizontal orientation of the phone as it will want to dip on the non-magnetic end due to weight. If the metal plate is in the center of the back of the phone, this should not be a problem but could affect wireless charging.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
-----------------------------------
* The instructions state that the small plastic adapter piece (used to make loose connections tighter) can be shaken loose in order to remove. I was unable to remove using that method; however, using a pair of needle-nose pliers pulled it out safely and easily.
* With the CD player usually near the radio controls, just be mindful of those controls if your phone is blocking them. If you are streaming and using your phone for all things audio, then you may not have an issue. Also keep in mind the location of your car clock as the clock on some phone faces is very small and may be hard to read while driving.
* Mounting the metal plate directly behind the inductive charging area could hinder your wireless charging feature. Be mindful and test before adhering to the phone.
* iOttie makes another mount with an induction/wireless charging option. This mount does not have charging built-in and costs less.
CONCLUSION:
=================
This is a great device and very useful especially for phones/devices that have metal already as part of the housing. This CD mount concept will be hit or miss for everyone as the CD slot is located in so many different places depending on your vehicle. Some are up high which is good (like my Frontier), and some may be low (some newer Infiniti models amongst others) which could be a problem not only with viewing angle, but interference with other controls. The thing I enjoyed was the strength, durability, and the ability to change angles of the device so that even the passenger could use easily if needed (movies on long trips). While magnetically engaged, the phone can still be plugged up for charging (a wire is also used for wireless charging version of this mount, but to the mount itself). Overall, a great concept. With everyone using their phones today, this may help with creating a safer driving experience inside the vehicle. Please Don't text and Drive.

I purchased a similar product from another retailer that was shaped in a way that interfered with my radio volume knob, and you had to squeeze the clamp to get the phone in or out. It broke about a week later and I looked all over for a cd mount with a slim profile like this one had in its pictures and I love the magnetic mount versus having to squeeze. I think I’m going to be a big fan of this mount for a long time to come, thanks guys!

The iOttie - iTap 2 cell phone holder for the CD slot is my new favorite cell phone holder for my car. I have an iPhone X and this is a perfect fit in my 2014 Honda Accord. It puts my phone within reach without totally obstructing the view of my dash camera or media system. The magnet provided sticks to a clear applicator which sticks to your phone - so you don't have to worry about having to peel off a heavy magnet when you switch out phones. I have the magnet under a Soeck case and it has worked great. There have been NO issues with the phone falling from the mount when driving. I feel it is secure and it was very easy to install and remove. Would highly recommend for any older cars that have a CD player that never get used like mine.

Good mount for certain cars/devices

This mount is very simplistic so really anyone could set it up but there are a few key items to mention regarding the use in relation to the car and what phone someone may have.
In the box:
- Mount
- 2 Sizes of magnets (Small black, Large Silver)
- Manual
- Clip to adjust locking of mount in CD Player for certain applications
The mount slid into my CD player without a problem and without the need to use the supplied clip. My guess is that clip is used for certain vehicles in which the CD player gap is a different size so it will actually lock properly into place. The magnets are of two sizes, one smaller meant to be mounted on the phone/case directly so it touches the mount. The larger/stronger magnet is meant to be on the inside of a case or on the back of a phone with a case on. I choose to use the smaller black magnet on the outside of my black phone case towards the bottom of my LG V40 and it works fairly well... until you want to use the phone sideways on the mount. The manual says to mount either magnet lower on the phone if your device uses wireless charging so it does not interfere with the charging. Since I do use wireless charging from time to time I did as the directions stated and mounted it about 3/4 of the way down. The mount does hold the device well in the upright position but is not strong enough to do so sideways because of how I mounted the magnet on the phone. If the larger magnet was also black and not bright silver I might have choose to use the larger one because of its extra strength but was limited to the smaller black one due to the color and how I wanted to mount it on the outside of my case. If you plan to use your phone sideways a lot make sure to plan according while choosing how to put the magnet on your phone/case.
The mount itself as a fairly large range of swivel (Plenty for the average car). It is very secure within the CD player and did not notice any movement while driving. Any movement while driving was coming from the phone and strength of the magnets to each other.
Pros:
- Quick Mount/Dismount of phone
- Stealthy way to mount phone (If magnet is hidden under a case)
- Uses CD player which I never use and is out of the way
Cons:
- Larger magnet is not black like smaller one
- Larger phones can be a bit heavy for small magnet depending on mounting location of magnet on phone
- Magnet needs to be mounted to phone/case which adds a little weight to your device
- Location of CD player in my car is directly above my touchscreen so when my phone is mounted it hides part of the screen
- Wireless charging can hinder where you are able to mount the magnet on your phone
Overall I would recommend this mount if you are ok with where your phone sits in relation to a potential touch screen or screen in general. Also consider what phone you have and where you would be able to mount the magnet on your phone and whether your phone has wireless charging or not as this can limit you to using the mount in only one position like myself. This is a good mount for certain people just make sure you are one of them!

I've tried several suction cup phone mounts over the years, but they never really worked very well. There was never a smooth surface in a convenient location, and they would always come loose and fall off. I eventually gave up and quit using a mount. However, since my current car has a CD slot I never use, I thought I'd give this a try. After using it for a week, I'm loving it!
I have a Samsung S9+ and I use wireless chargers at home and work--almost never plugging it in. My first concern was if the small metal plate would interfere with that. So, for the first day I used masking tape to keep the plate in place and then used it on all three models of wireless chargers I use. You can see in the photo I put it as close to the bottom as possible, and also had to shift a little to one side for the kick stand. It worked just fine on all of my stands (flat, portrait and landscape positions).
Next, I used the adhesive to attach it permanently (hopefully) and actually used it on the mount in the car. It held it in place amazingly well. After a couple particularly nasty bumps it did tip a little to one side, but that's not a big deal to me if it's a rare occurrence. The important thing is that it's holding my phone in a convenient place to view and use it.
As others have said, the position of your CD slot is extremely important. Mine is at the top of all the audio/climate controls, so my phone goes above that and just blocks the display which is only a problem when I want to see the backup camera. (I just pop the phone on after I've pulled out of my parking space.) It does nearly block the clock display, but if I lean just a bit to the right I can still glance at the big clock. Individual cars will vary widely, so you'll want to think about your setup before you buy.
Also, it looks like you can buy extra metal plates for other phones if you need them. I'm glad I finally have a usable car mount for my phone!

Not the Option for Me

I needed a car mount for my cell. Normally, I can wear a lanyard to have the phone in easy reach. However, it makes it difficult to view maps or access music if I need to do so. I wanted a basic mount that allowed access but wasn’t a permanent mount.
The iOttie that I tried is a CD player mount. When I ordered it, I thought I had a traditional CD player. However, I realized too late that I had a DVD player that was behind a computerized display.
The first step is to attach either a small or large metal plate to your phone or case, as the unit is magnetic. Both plates are hideously ugly. You would not want them on the outside of your phone.
I have a phone with wireless charging capability, so the recommendation was to use the smaller plate on the outside of the case. However, that would cover up part of my decorative case, and it interfered with my PopSocket. So, I placed the larger metal plate inside my case.
Placing the unit in my car proved to be a challenge. The unit would not fit in my DVD player at all. Trying to force it was out of the question because of how my display folded down – I was afraid to damage it.
So, I tried it use in my vent. The unit fit, though I was unable to lock it into place. The phone seemed to sit OK, but had I taken a sharp turn I’m not sure it would have stayed put.
I would have rather had flexibility to use it in a CD player OR a vent OR some other spot as one kit, rather than being stuck with only one option. Yes, I was able to use it elsewhere, but that wasn’t how it was designed, so I cannot award points for that.
The magnet was strong, but the phone was mounted higher than I would have liked. It was mounted on the lower third of my phone trying to keep access to the wireless charging.
If you have an older vehicle (pre-2010 maybe?) you might be OK using this unit. If you have a newer car, I would look at other mount options.

It's so easy to setup and it stays in place. I like how is so simple that you just forget about it you just rest your phone and it will just stick to it. I have a Note20 Ultra and it holds it perfectly. Now having a back plate on your phone will interfere with wireless charging. Also if you put the metal plate inside a case it might not stick as strong.

Purchased this for my 2018 Toyota 4Runner. I needed a phone mount to support my iPhone 11 Max but didn't want a suction cup or dash board mount. My 4Runner still comes with a stock CD player (which I never use) this mount seemed like the best solution. The supplied magnets work great and the insert the goes into the CD player fits like a glove. I don't have to push it in every so often to get a tight fit but I think its because my phone is pretty large/heavy. All in all its exactly what i was looking for and avoids me from having to use those ugly, ineffective window suction cup mounts. Definitely recommend.

Ive been looking for a phone holder in the car that uses the CD slot since I don't use the slot. It also holds better as opposed to a suction. I like the minimalist design, and basically you attach a magnet inside your phone case so you can set your phone on this magnet phone holder. It has been so easy using it and definitely helps when im driving! Affordable too!

Just be mindful where you put the magnetic backing. (Plate) This is because your phone is a little too heavy (assuming you have an iPhone) and if you put it too low it will shake and could fall. So try to put the plates on as close to the center as possible and you’ll be good. Other than that this works fairly well. I think it came out to just a little more than $30 after taxes in CA. But you get two magnetic plates so you can use two phones separately. Also, it’s cautions you once you place the plate on the back of your phone you probably won’t be able to use a charging mat anymore. Haven’t tried it yet, but honestly, my charging pad isn’t the best so it would probably give me problems regardless. But all and all, this is a good phone mount.
It has a decent swivel, it took about 5 mins to instal, it’s a little protruding, but all and all, it’s sturdy, it allows you to charge your device underneath and best of all, you’re hands free. Grab this for yourself or maybe your teen. It’s really very practical.
