Customers are delighted by the Roomba Plus 505 Combo's impressive cleaning performance, particularly its effective sweeping and mopping capabilities and strong suction. Many appreciate the advanced mapping and object detection features, including the LiDAR navigation system which helps the robot avoid obstacles efficiently. However, some users note that the battery life could be improved, and the noise level can be high, especially during mopping. The ease of setup is also frequently praised.

I have had my fair share of robotic vacuums and mops. Dating back to the first models of the Roomba all the way up to the the Deebot series. The Roomba 505 is the best yet.
For my test I have run it consistently in my kitchen for the last few days. Out of the box, I was ready to go within 10 minutes, and once I downloaded the app, I hooked up, and set up my first map within a half hour. The entire process was seamless, and I'm so thankful that you don't have to use a 2.4 GHz band to set up.
Lights on or lights off, it had no problem navigating. It follows the maps well, and if it can reach it, there is no place left unturned.
Scraps of food to Play-Doh pieces to slight spills and splashes, this vacuum has been able to handle it all thus far with ample satisfaction.
The last combo I had was a Deebot series. What was shocking about it was how huge the base was. It was like a small shelf. The Roomba 505 is a great size and fits against the wall without taking up too much space. My wife is a big fan of that as we want to maximize the amount of space that we have in our kitchen where it lives.
I have had no hiccups in terms of looping, or anything getting stuck. It has been a great experience of mopping cleaning itself and emptying itself without a hitch. While the app is not aesthetically amazing, it has everything you need to set up your routines and get into a groove and let the Roomba do its thing.
I don't have any long-term experience on this model, but in the short term, it has been the best combo I have owned as of yet. I definitely would recommend it.
Another huge bonus is that it can clear the lip between my kitchen and hallway. Between these two rooms, there's a slight ramp that's been a hassle to just about every robotic vacuum i've had. This one cleared it with ease. So I am truly confident it can do all around my home without needing to stop.

Fantastic Robot Vac For Dog Owners!

This is Robot Vac number 7 that I've owned over the years, from multiple brands, although this is the third Roomba. I keep coming back to Roomba because they simply just work! I'm swapping out another brand for this Roomba, and that one has similar features and functions. But it was a constant chore trying to get it to work properly to the point that it was easier to just run the vacuum by hand. As a Golden Retriever household, I want something that can just go out once or twice a day and spend 30min picking up "Golden Glitter" while I'm doing other stuff. The mopping feature on this is a bonus because it adds another level of cleaning.
Setup out of the box was easy and straightforward. There is a QR code to scan to get the app you need. Once the base station is plugged in and the robot is set on the dock, it'll run you through a quick setup process and then download the firmware updates. After that, wait for it to be charged up and then send it on a mapping run. Once the house is mapped, you can edit the map in the Roomba app by changing room names, dividing lines, create "no go" zones or "no mop" zones, etc. Super easy, although I will caution that adding a "no mop" zone is essentially creating a "no go" zone if you're not doing the Vac only setting. The Roomba will automatically sense carpet and not mop it.
That's honestly it. You go in the app, or ask Alexa/Siri/Google to send it out, and it vacs and mops the area. You can have it do the whole level, or ask it to just go to the Kitchen or Living Room, etc. The mop pads fan out a bit to get closer to the edges of the wall, and retract when approaching carpet. Filling the clean water and emptying the dirty water tank is easy. I do recommend emptying the dirty water tank at least daily and rinse it out in the sink so mildew doesn't build up in the tank, requiring a deeper clean.
I love that this unit vacuums, mops and self empties both the water tank and the dust bin. Inside the dock, the mop pads will get rinsed off, and when it's done, they will have warm air blown over them for several hours to dry the pads. This is truly an all in one solution and a must have for anyone, especially those with dogs or small children. This might be the first robot vac that I haven't had to "rescue" because it couldn't find its way out from under a chair or got caught on a rug. It does a great job leaving the hardwoods and rugs clean and it is much quieter than other models I've had in the past.
Overall, highly recommend this robot combo and couldn't be happier with it!

Great New Robot Vacuum

We recently moved into a new house, where the main floor is all real hardwood, so we were back in the market for a new robot vacuum cleaner. We'd had a good experience with Roomba's in the past, so when we saw an option that allowed for vacuuming and mopping, we jumped at the chance.
Out of the box, I was impressed with the compact design of the base for the 505. We'd had another robot vacuum cleaner in the past, at our previous house, where the base was much taller than the 505. The base of the 505 allows for it to be placed in more discreet places, which is nice because I didn't want the 505 to be considered a main "feature" in the room we placed it in.
Once it was out of the box, we let it charge up, then my wife used the mobile app to begin the mapping process, but not before she named the vacuum "Nom Nom", with immediate approval from our daughters.
The live mapping in the app is a great feature! You get a map of the house, where it's cleaned so far, and where it is in the cleaning process. I appreciate how it makes cross-directional passes to ensure it doesn't miss anything. We've used this now for about a week now, and we've been impressed with hoe clean the floor is after it runs.
We've also tried the mopping process once, with nice results. Just be mindful of what type of floor you're doing a mop function on and ensure you use the right kind of cleaner. So far, this has been my favorite Roomba.
My only complaint is one that I have for all Roomba's - they only have a single "Y" brush at the front of the unit. I'd really wish that Roomba would add a second one, so that the vacuum could get more in a single pass, but this is a minor complaint.

The iRobot Roomba Plus 505 combo robot vacuum and mop is an overall good product that I can recommend to anyone looking for a combination robot vacuum and mop. As previous reviews have mentioned, there are just a few minor annoyances that keep the iRobot Roomba Plus 505 from being a great product.
The one issue I, and many other reviewers, seem to have is the app is not great and can be a bit of a pain to use with an overall clunky interface to use. Mapping takes some time, but at least you only need to do it once so I don't really consider that a drawback, but my biggest issue is with how difficult and clunky it is to edit the map. When editing you have the option of editing rooms, adding clean/keep out zones, and adding furniture. The interface for doing these options is very difficult to use and makes it very annoying when trying to remove rooms that you don't necessarily want the robot vacuum going through.
Besides the issues with the app, I am overall pretty happy with the iRobot Roomba Plus 505, I really like the lidar feature and how it keeps the vacuum from running into everything making it clean much more efficiently without getting stuck. I would recommend this to anyone who is just looking for an all-around good combo robot vacuum and mop that doesn't need to use the app for more than starting cleaning.

Roomba being a Roomba

Roomba will always be the name people say when they are referring to a robotic vacuum. Just like a particular fruit named company has the label for handheld tablets and another paper product brand is interchangeable with facial tissue. iRobot was a pioneer in the birthing of smart home products and offers a wide variety of robotic vacuums. However after this latest iteration, I feel as if other companies have caught up, and dare I say passed the OG smart vacuum.
Having put the Roomba Plus 505 Combo Robot in service and relieving last years Roomba Combo 10 Max, I am fairly up to date on the iRobot product line. This 505 model brings in a little bit of a facelift with adding lidar to the top of the machine and exposing the clean and dirty water bins in the dock. The 505 does loose the retractable top mounted mop pad in favor of dual spinning mop pads that raise upon reaching carpet. This would be an upgrade if the vacuum had wetness settings or an onboard clean water tank to property soak the pads, however this latest model lost those features.
iRobot did roll out a new app, however! This vacuum is controlled by the new Roomba Home app as opposed to the previous iRobot app. And no, I could not find a way to import any of my previous Roombas or maps into the new app. The new app feels a LOT like the old app and I really am not sure why the switch. From open box to cleaning cycles, everything about the 505 felt like typical Roomba being Roomba. No directional booklet in the box. None. Just about 5 pictures printed on cardboard in the middle of the box that tells you to put the mopping pads here and the dock ramp there. Then you have to scan a QR code or simply find the app in your app shop of choice. Once set up, this Roomba was plagued with the same flaws as my previous...errors during setup, app freezing, then finally after about 40 minutes the app still said that it was finalizing setup, but it took me taking a leap of faith and force closing the app and reopening it to finally have the app tell me that setup was complete.
Now with that out of the way, it was time for my Plus 505, aka Bruce, to have his maiden voyage. First thing is first...Bruce needs a map to follow. So instead of cleaning aimlessly and mapping as he went, Bruce went on a scouting mission without cleaning and was able to decently map the upper floor of my phone in 9 minutes. That was impressive. The map was instantly available, which was nice as previous models had to make several cleaning cycles before generating a map. iRobot even did a decent job of default naming the rooms. Now I am sure that somewhere someone calls a hallway a corridor, but not here. With a simple click on my phone I was able to make sure the rooms were given proper names and even able to separate my living room and dining room as Bruce had initially mapped them as one room. Good on ya for this improvement, iRobot.
Now that the treasure map...errr...cleaning map is scouted, it was time for ol' Bruce to get to work. He chugged along with a mix of systematic lines and a little of the old school Roomba Ouija board technique and did a decent job vacuuming. Mopping leaves a little to be desired, however that is secondary for me as only one room (kitchen) is not carpeted. Where Bruce went, Bruce cleaned. Problem though....Bruce gets lost. A lot. He has not successfully found his way home in a week. I have tried everything. He has plenty of room and clean line of sight to his dock but still is a lost Roomba. The only thing I have not tried is pulling a page out of the Hanzel and Gretyl book and leaving crumbs back to his home dock. Maybe I will try that next.
Another issue is that this Plus 505 is noisy. When wetting or cleaning the mop discs, there is a very disturbing sloshing sound coming from the dock. I know its the cleaning pads having water ran over them to be saturated, but it sounds...lets just say...interesting. There is ZERO chance that I will ever run this vacuum while I am at the house. Which unfortunately leaves me with another problem. If Bruce cant find his way home and I can't be at home while he is cleaning because he is essentially making chewing with his mouth open noises, what is the point of having a Robot with no manners that I have to babysit?
iRobot, you have made good products. You have come up with good features. However I would encourage you to take a long and deep look into some of your competitors as they have made much more reliable machines for a better price tag.

Fantastic vac and mop!

This device is an upgrade from our previous similar model from another company. It does both the vac and the mop processes and has made a lot easier. Does it prevent us from ever having to sweep or mop? No, but, it does stop 9/10 times that we would have to spot-sweep or spot-mop. Now, don't expect it to clean up a gallon of milk that exploded when you dropped it from chest-high, but little messes spilled off the stove or small dribbles of drink or food it cleans up without any fuss. Best thing is, it cleans up after itself by emptying itself. Just like any other robo-vac, I would warn against letting it run if your pet had an accident on the floor - in my experience (not with this particular model since we haven't let it touch any pet messes) the vac becomes a poop-distribution system - makes one heck of a mess and not to mention makes your house smell like a sewer.
Once the vac learns the layout of your home it's pretty much autonomous , with the exception of emptying the dock of anything it has deposited into it.
My last vac did a great job - this one takes it a step further and makes the floor that much more clean. We come home from work after it has run and the floor is nice and "barefootable".
Go to the original in robo-vacs - iRobot - you won't regret it!
