The unit requires a large open area around the docking unit which I do not have. It has a low lasting battery time before it runs out. It has only returned to its docking unit for recharging once as it gets lost in other rooms.

The roomba is a great additional to the family. It cleans fairly well, and it's great for cleaning cat hair! The only complaint I have is sometimes it misses some spots and won't go back to dock when I want it to.

I was very excited to get this vacuum. After using it for a few months I'm not quite as excited. It does an ok job but gets stuck easily, requires emptying a lot, and takes forever to dock itself when you tell it to.

Gets stuck a lot. Does clean well but never makes it back to dock. Goes in circles or doesn't read furniture right and sticks.

The roomba is nice but unfortunately this model wasn't the model for me. Due to its inability to dock to recharge it would be lost when the battery died. Also the feature to be able to know it's way around the house was lacking. If I were to buy another I would get the model with these capabilities.

Pros: cleans carpet and hard floors w/o adjustment. Programmable from smart phone or ipad. Works in and around furniture and rarely gets stuck. Cons: Sometimes can't find the docking station in areas which have nooks or open rooms off the main room.

I would give it 5 stars but have had some technical issues. Straight out of the box, worked like a charm and set up was easy. I have tried to start it remotely using the app but it has not worked yet and I will have to go through the setup process again. The device does not properly dock itself properly and I have to give it an alignment. The vacuum works great and does a good job navigating around the floor.

Not happy at all. For me the biggest problem was the "charging dock". It cannot be placed out of the way. It needs to be out in the open. Not ok by me. Enough th make me return it.

I was super excited when I bought the roomba 690 today for the great price of $275. After using it for a couple clean cycles, I've decided I absolutely hate this thing. It cleans well but the whole time it's running, it bumps really hard into all my furniture. Hard enough to put dents in a brand new $600 table I just bought. That might not bother most people, but the fact that it has trouble going back to it's dock in my 1 bedroom apartment was the deal breaker. I'll be returning tomorrow and researching other brands!

I bought myself a Bobsweep Pet for Christmas but was incredibly disappointed in it after a week or two when it started to not work properly. I returned it and purchased this Roomba instead. I immediately noticed that it was more effective (and faster! @@@@@@@ than the Bob was from the beginning. The Roomba has a hard time finding it's charging dock most days, but we're working on what we can do to make things easier for it. So far I love it! I think it works really well and helps me keep a clean house.

We have friends who have the Roomba and highly recommended it. We have it scheduled to run M-W-F each week, having it primarily vacuum the hardwood floor on our main level. It does a very good job in removing dust, hair and crumbs from the floor. It also does a small portion of carpet. We noted that the dust accumulation on furniture is significantly diminished after having acquired the Roomba. We have the docking station under a piece of furniture, making it invisible to the eye. We plan purchasing another for our lower level.

The vacuum cleans really well. There are some technical issues on occasions like sometimes getting stuck between chairs and there have been times it would stop working and not go back to the dock. I had to try a few times for the cloud update to work which was frustrating. The cleaning is really good. It picks up a lot. And it goes on my rugs and hard wood floors without any issues. That was my biggest concern. The app makes it easy for scheduling too!

A lot of reviews stated that this unit would not go up onto area rugs, etc.. I have no issues with that. We have hardwood in the main area with a large area rug, not too tall and it has no issues with it. Also small floor mats that it goes up on and doesn't drag around with it. It goes up into the kitchen that has a probably 3/4" rise with no issues. It will also go from the hardwood to the bedroom carpet if it hits it at an angle. It will pick up cords and small items (pacifiers, etc.. @@@@@@@ if they're on the floor. It can have an issue getting back to the dock and take some time, up to 10 minutes on occasion, but usually finds its way back when complete.

    I named him Steve

Steve came to my house on a Thursday afternoon. On Friday, I set him up to go clean before I left for work. I even left him a treat on the floor to eat (some parmesan cheese). When I got home on Friday, he had eaten his treat, and as far as I could tell, had cleaned the whole house and made it back to his home dock. Monday, the next time he ran, I got a notification on my phone that said that he was finished. But when I got home, he was nowhere to be found! Turns out he got lost by the back door, and spun in circles until his battery ran out. He also missed the tortilla chip snack I left directly in front of the dock. Wednesday and Thursday were much the same. By Thursday, I was already sick of his crap, so I just left him on the floor and didn't take him home to charge. By Friday, Steve went back home to Best Buy, and I came home with a new TV instead.

The hardest working robot in NY

I love this robot. The amount of work that it gets done and the space that it covers is amazing. I won't lie I was a little skeptical when I first saw it and though that it would just get some quick spot cleans done around the house. Not only are the spot cleaning covered in this little guy day, but it does a decent job handling some of the more heavy-duty jobs that a hose of 5 human and one cat can throw at it. This won't replace your deep cleaning but on a day to day it really keeps up. After removing the Christmas tree, I set this little guy to the task of second broom and I was amazed at how well it did. This model will also integrate with Google home and makes a great alarm clock if you add it to a G-routine. Cons: 1. Wires are this guys kryptonite 2. Has problems with dark patterns in area rugs - triggers a false "stuck on a cliff" alarm 3. This model is a random bump and run clean - you can't tell it to clean a certain room 4. A bit loud when operating 5. The charging unit slips when the robot tries to return home on hard surface floors - I had to add traction stickers to the underside of the dock to help.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. The dust bin is large enough that it can do a whole 3 bedroom floor with no issues. The biggest down fall compared to the more expensive models is the mapping of the floor. This model gets lost after it cleans one side of the house and gets to the other, and can't return to home when it's done cleaning. Thankfully it does include the boundary marking lighthouse thing, so I simply divide the house in half. One other difference is the cleaning pattern. Honestly, the 690 just seems to kind of bounce around all over the place. You think it'll follow an edge, but then it darts around and zig zags all over the place. The higher models have a more specific pattern to clean more effectively. Lastly, the Home base station is, for lack of a better word, janky. It isn't the most solid thing, and with wood floors, Roomba will knock it around as it try's to dock. Some command strips did the trick in keeping it in place though. In my opinion though, all of these issues aren't worth the extra $200-$300 for the next model.

Terrible product, better robot-vacs out there

My wife and I had long been on the fence about getting a robot vacuum to aide us in our weekly chores of sweeping and vacuuming our 800 sq-ft apartment. Now that we have a cat, it was becoming a much more regular requirement. We were very excited to purchase our first Roomba from our local Best Buy store. While it certainly picks up dirt, dust, pet-hair, the navigation on this unit's terrible. It literally ping-pongs around our apartment with no systematic navigation. The only thing is did well was suck. It struggled on fairly low-pile carpet as well. We gave the bot a week to improve, but it would get lost and run out of battery while searching for the dock. We weren't about to dish out $900 for the Roomba 980, so we chose to return the 690 and go with an alternate brand. Our 690 has been replaced with a $300 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vac and we are so much happier. It's on par with the $900 Roomba 980 if that says anything. We had high hopes for the little 690, but it lacks the quality and is not worth even half of what it's MSRP is. Steer clear of this one.

    Needs constant attention

It only docks itself 50 percent of the time. The dock is in a good location on a hard flat floor. I've cleaned the contacts over and over and over. It will rub around on the dock a couple times then it gives up and drives around the house some more. When I carry it to the dock and place it there manually it takes a lot of fiddling to get a connection. Today I told it to clean and the battery was dead because it didn't charge. I finally called the company to get some help. They went through the checklist and finally said "monitor it's behavior and to let them know if it has more trouble". I told them I've been "monitoring" it for three months since I bought in and it's always had these problems. That's why I'm calling. They were still no help. Said to "keep monitoring". The only reason this thing costs $300 is because it's supposed to be automated. It requires constant attention to keep it charged. So I'll take more time out of another day to call them the next time it fails to dock. Which will probably be tomorrow. Hopefully they will eventually help. Terrible customer service policy!

    Self cleaning made easy

Easy set up out of the box. The mobile app is easy to use and requires limited effort to set up via your home wifi network. The app even lets you know that it can not be set up on 5g networks. Most wifi routers allow you do use both speeds (but you'll have to consult your router on how to set that up). The Roomba has physical buttons to start and stop clean, and to return back to the charging base. The app also does the same, and includes set up for automatic clean up, you pick the days of the week and the time to clean. You get a notification when cleaning is done (or if a problem occurs). I have stairs going down, when the Rooma approached the edge, it quickly backed up. I was so terrified that it would fall to its doom, but nope, it sensed the drop off and avoided sure death. The collecting canister is rather small and the filter is fairly thin. It filled up quickly when it went under my couches (as I never cleaned under there) It was a good job for a small room and once you run it a few times a week, the amount of debris collected will decrease. I have hardwood floors and it usually picks up hair and other small particles/dust. I cant comment on use for carpet. It takes my about 5 min to sweep my apartment. I only sweep a few times a month because I hated doing it. I set my Roomba up to clean twice a week and love it. I get 30min/month of my life back thats not dedicated to cleaning the floors!

I've been using the iRobot Roomba 690 for about a month now. This is my first experience with any robotic vacuum and so far, I'm happy with the results. I honestly didn't think I'd really need this sort of device. We have a pretty clean home with little clutter and a weekly cleaning person that comes to our house. Surprisingly the Roomba was able to always find a lot of dust, hair and other miscellaneous gunk. After receiving the Roomba, you must first charge your device for a couple hours. There is a battery icon that will turn green on the device when is fully charged. While the device was charging, I was able to pair it with my iPhone. Browsing through the app, I could see that you could schedule cleanings, put the device in lower power mode when idle, check job history, get tips and help, check firmware version. Roomba says the device will update its own firmware overnight while idle. The Roomba did in fact do that on my first night. Looking at the change log, it looks like they fixed some issues and improved the intelligence. I'd watch for that update before you start messing around too much with the device as tempting as it's. Once I finally was ready to go, I just let the Roomba go wherever it wanted on my first level. I really couldn't figure out Roomba's method to its madness. It seemed to travel all over the place without any particular pattern. I was really impressed with the Roombas ability to navigate through tough situations. It went under my dining table and never got stuck. While the Roomba traveled around my kitchen banging into everything, I noticed the side sweeper really getting into corners. Being a circle, this was a brilliant design to clean into squared corner areas. It was a lot of fun to watch but the Roomba was also smart enough not to fall down the stairs. The first couple of times that I ran the Roomba it ended up picking up quite a bit of dust. I think there are areas where no one tends to clean. This is where the Roomba can really shine. On subsequent cleanings, the Roomba wasn't cleaning as massive amounts of dust like it did in previous trips. In general, the Roomba jobs last about an hour. I didn't expect the battery to last so long and I honestly thought the Roomba would just give up after about twenty minutes. Not sure if it's a bug or not, but my Roomba says it's return to it's base and really takes the long way home. It continues to drive around and around for another 15 minutes before it finds the dock. I'm not a huge fan of the dock design. The dock is very light and on my hardwood floors it doesn't seem to stay put in some settings. Would be nice if they put a little more weight into it or maybe added the ability to put on suction cups on hardwood floors. If you are able to, the scheduling works well. I was even able to add Roomba to my Alexa as a skill from iRobot. One thing to remember is this vacuum does take some maintenance. While you run the scheduled jobs, you must clean the dust bin after each cleaning. The device will probably complain to you if it fills up with too much dirt. You also have to clean the filter and any hair that might get trapped in the wheels. Hopefully that doesn't need to happen after every job at your home. The mobile phone app gives the ability to launch a job while you are away from home. After the first couple of times, I limited the Roomba's ability to roam everywhere and I setup the virtual wall to keep the device in my kitchen/dining area. Overall, I'd recommend this device to people who have a mostly clutter free home and just need a little extra detailing done. I can see this as a big advantage to people who own pets. It does a very good job cleaning and has a very strong battery life. I didn't like how long the jobs last for and wish the base was a little better designed.
