Very efficient. Dumps when full then continues cleaning. You get a map sent to your email showing the areas cleaned. We named it Mr. Clean. We are very pleased. We have a large house. Dies under beds to if you lift the bedskirt.

Love my robots. Excellent at doing what I need them to do — vac at night

Even though vacuuming is the art of the actual vacuuming device picking up dirt and debris off the floor, we seem to want to eliminate the need to push said device around to accomplish this feat. That’s where Roomba comes in, and the iRobot Max 705 is quite the entry for all who want to let anyone or anything else do the floors.
First things first, the packaging is very sturdy, and the Roomba is well protected. There is absolutely no need to worry about shipping and handling damage. This is important because the vacuum is a little heavier than you might anticipate. After opening the box, you notice there is no assembly required – unless you call snapping on the optional edge sweeper “assembly”. No instruction manual included. You basically have 3 picture boxes on a piece of cardboard that tell you, in simplest terms, download the app and turn it on. The unit is very well built, and looks good, handsome, if that makes sense. It has rubber on the wheels, and the rubber looks permanent, like it won’t wear or loosen. The build quality is excellent – 2nd to none.
Once you power it up, the 705 wants and needs to map the layout. Between up and downstairs, we are looking at nearly 2800 square feet. Surprisingly, it didn’t take long for it to map it out. We keep our areas and floors very clutter free and clean, so I don’t know if we challenged it much, but I was more than impressed. Once the layout is mapped, it’s time to vacuum the floors. We have a mixture of hardwood, tile, and carpet. The 705 is pretty quiet, especially on the hardwood flooring. The tile was a bit noisier, but we have a slate tile in our kitchen. For carpet, there was a definite boost in suction and brushing. The vacuum itself was a bit louder but not overly distracting. Overall, I would say it isn’t very noisy and can be tolerated when eating dinner or having a family discussion. I’m not sure if I experienced any increase in suction or effort caused by the built-in Dirt Detect technology, but I wouldn’t expect it to get much noisier while vacuuming floors. The loudest the 705 gets is when it returns to base and performs an automatic emptying of the bin. You will hear it then, but not for long.
With LiDAR built into this thing, I expected next-level edge and object detection. Let’s just say “check” on that note. Walls? Close vacuuming like a person did it. Stairs? No tumbling down them destroying your investment. Objects in the floor? Who needs to pick up everything? I’ve got to say, it’s impressive! Add to its mapping and edge/object detection capabilities the know how to return to base and recharge itself then finish any unfinished areas – it’s like you are doing your own floors? Speaking of recharge, the battery life on the 705 is pretty solid. Hardwood will yield you about a couple of hours depending on layout complexity. Mixed flooring, especially with carpet, will yield quite a bit less. Does it get the job done? Yes, without question. This thing vacuums floors on par with a lightweight vac, and for most, that will more than fill their needs.
Well, I think that covers it. My thoughts are in line with Roomba’s included single cardboard box piece instructions. It is well built, very intelligent, and performs great. Add to that the Roomba app which is well designed, simple to use, and gives full control of the vacuum and its schedule, and you have a no-brainer – a winner in every way.

We just got the iRobot Roomba Max 705 vacuum robot with AutoEmpty Dock last week. This is the 4th vacuum robot I have either owned or lived with, the 3rd Roomba and a Deebot. It’s been really cool to see the technology evolve to get to the point it is today. This unit has met my rather high expectations and even exceeded them when it comes to its fantastic mapping and object detection. Overall it is the best one I have ever used.
Set up was super quick and easy. Simply install the Roomba app. Place your charging station and set the unit to charge. Once charged it can map its area and then you are ready to send it off to clean. The unit came partially charged so I had it set up, the downstairs mapped and ready to sent it out on its first cleaning session within the hour.
I was really curious to see how it would handle each obstacle. We have cement, resin, soft flat rugs and deep shag like rugs downstairs. It is where our laundry is as well as some storage. It’s a bit rougher than a typical house and an area that an early model would have had extreme difficulty with. The 705 handled this area like a champ. It has the best mapping I have ever seen. The map looked perfect. It was able to navigate various supports and obstacles wonderfully. The only minor issue I had downstairs was I have some washable area rugs. These are closer to a blanket with a bit of a backing than a traditional rug. They are however very soft and pliable, the Roomba would push the ends up sometime, but overall wasn’t too bad. It never got stuck, just had to flatten them back out after the cleaning. They are very tricky to vacuum usually anyways with our standard vacuum. It got a little loud as it ramped up power on the deeper shag rugs, but overall it was fairly quiet. Much more so than our standard vacuum cleaner. After the mapping and the first cleaning I intentionally left obstacles out to see how it would navigate, it performed wonderfully again. It did get stuck when it rolled over a small article of clothing, but just took a moment to remove the obstruction and send it back on its way. I was actually out of the room when this happened, I immediately got an alert on my phone.
All in all we are very impressed with Rosie the Roomba. The best object detection and navigation I have ever seen on one of these. Charges fairly quickly and seems to have excellent battery life. It’s not too loud and can navigate between different flooring types with ease. The auto empty feature works great as well. Of all the vacuum robots I have used, this one is my favorite. If I knew someone looking for one, I would absolutely recommend this one to a friend.

I’m extremely disappointed with this Roomba, especially given the price point (over $500, even on sale).
Right out of the box, the robot made extreme noise and vibration, loud enough that it was clearly not normal operation. This wasn’t a minor rattle or break-in issue; it sounded and felt defective from the very first run.
I contacted iRobot support and, after a long and frustrating troubleshooting process, they ultimately confirmed that the robot shipped with defective rollers. To get to that conclusion, I had to:
(1) Record and send a video of the noise
(2) Troubleshoot the robot step by step with support
(3) Take and submit photos of the robot’s undercarriage
This took a significant amount of time and effort for a product that’s supposed to be premium and ready to use out of the box.
What’s most frustrating is the resolution: all iRobot offered was to send replacement rollers. No replacement unit, no refund option, no acknowledgment that receiving a defective product at this price is unacceptable.
For something marketed as a high-end, reliable cleaning robot, this experience was anything but. Quality control clearly failed here, and the burden of fixing the issue was placed entirely on me as the customer.
If you’re considering this Roomba, be aware that you may end up spending hours troubleshooting a brand-new device, and still be left with a “fix” that doesn’t feel proportional to the problem.
