This little robot does an awesome job just 4 stars because it does get stuck with some of the wires I have for my surround but other than that it does an awesome job, less sweeping more enjoying time

I like the Roomba app integration so I can set a schedule for it to run and it will let me know if it gets stuck, even when I'm not at home. It does a good enough job cleaning, but can be a bit loud.

    Ricky the Robot

We decided to name our Roomba, Ricky, in tribute to Rosie Jetson. lol It took me a while to observe this new family member at work so that I may be as candid and honest as possible. I will focus on behaviors and outcomes since tech friends, autonomy is inevitable. The pros are as follows. This robot is built very strong and durable. Its low profile design and strong vacuum give it that cutting edge. The rubber brush is genius. It does well picking things in its path. Basically, it's not a toy, it's a durable robot. That's the positive. The cons are as follows. Ricky is noisy and likes to beat around the bush a lot. He takes forever. He always does what it wants. Meaning their is no rhyme or reason or algorithm pattern it follows, I found him helpless, stuck under the table and chairs. And today, the wife left the kitchen back door open accidentally, and Ricky left the house and dropped one flight of concrete stairs, survived the fall of course. A second disappointment with the Roomba was that the app only operates on a 2.5 GHz, and our home runs on 5 GHz. I thought the 890 is like a late model. iRobot, you should allow for a 5GHz software update on the app. My final thoughts on Ricky the Roomba is this. It's mechanical engineering is cutting edge and durable, but it's lack of A.I. confused me. If only Ricky was like Rosie.

I really was impressed with this vacuum robot. It handled my carpets well and was very kid and animal friendly. I was afraid of how it would handle toys, but it would just stop and did not allow for it to become broken. It would more than not find itself back to the charging base. I would say that if you live in an apartment or home with flatter floors then this is a winner. It is probably more of a luxury device just because of the cost but not having to clean the floors may be worth it to most. It is very solid and handles well. The app allowed me to remind it to start and clean when it would be charging. It also worked well with just the clean button.

    Really good robot vac!

This vac probably only deserves 3.5 stars, but we will give it 4 as 3 is too low. This vac is replacing our Bissell robot vac which is coming to the end of it's service life. Upon opening the box we found the robot, it's charging base, the invisible barrier with batteries. Setup is easy enough. Just download the app and follow the instructions. My son named this vacuum Beebot. First thing we noticed is that this thing is much larger than our Bissell. This is just an observation, not good or bad. It is also much quieter than the Bissell. This is a good thing. Beebot does not seem very smart. He just goes until he hits something, turns, and goes until he hits something else. He can get stuck in one room forever if he does not find the doorway or he can only spend a minute in a room if he finds it right away. This is a little frustrating as after spending a minute in a room, he might not make it back. Our Bissell used to run in patterns and seemed to get a room vacuumed much more thoroughly. As far as cleaning and sucking power, it seems to be adequate. Bigger things are sometimes left behind, but his container fills quickly so you know he is working. We notice that once the red light comes kn to alert you to empty the bin, it does not go off when you empty and replace the bin until it is done vacuuming and docks with the charging station. It's a little frustrating as you never know if it needs to be emptied a second time and you have to keep checking it. All in all, we like the iRobot 890. There are some minor annoyances that could be remedied, but it does what it is supposed to do and that's what is important.

Excellent Cleaning, where it actually cleans

I've been withholding my review for a bit in order to determine how this Roomba operates. After multiple cleaning sessions, changing the location of the base a few times, and tests with crumbs and some trash set out on the floor, I've determined that I cannot recommend this product, especially for the price. This Roomba has excellent suction, whether on carpet or hardwood, and will sweep up just about anything you put in its way. It is especially good at picking up dog hair. It does a pretty good job of rolling over cords, rugs, and even towels, only occasionally getting hung on these items. One other positive is that it keeps the floor picked up because you have to remove everything off the floor prior to setting it loose. The app is also easy to use and intuitive. The negatives far outweigh the positives. For starters, in any given room, the vacuum will room around bumping into walls and furniture, roll back and forth across the same area a few times, and leave huge portions of the room uncleaned. It will sometimes come back and pick up a few areas it missed, but overall, half the floor in a room does not get cleaned. I tested this by placing crumbs and bits of trash around a room and letting it loose. It would start vacuuming the kitchen, move on to the living room, and never come back to finish the kitchen. The portable "virtual wall" will allow you to keep the Roobma out of a room or area, but since my house has more than one entrance to most rooms, the Roomba will eventually leave the target room without some serious baby sitting. Battery life is not the best either. The Roomba runs for about an hour on a single charge before having to return to its base. So for one charge, it doesn't even cover half of my not so big main floor. It also will not hop up onto my thicker rug in the living room. It handles most other transitions with no problems, but treats my not quite shag rug as a wall. I don't expect the Roomba to be perfect. I was expecting to have to rescue it sometimes, which I have had to do. I was also not expecting it to get every square inch of the main floor, but the fact that it doesn't even cover half and leaves large portions of rooms untouched is a huge bummer. This vacuum is definitely not the "turn it on and leave it" replacement to manual vacuuming. For the price, I cannot recommend this Roomba. It simply does not clean as much area as it should and has taken way more TLC than it should. If the vacuum came with at least two of the virtual walls, where you could really keep it contained to a room, I might give it another star. But even then, that would be way too much babysitting for something advertised as a hands free cleaning solution.

Great Product, but MUST BE MAINTAINED

This is my second Roomba vacuum. The last one I had used a rotating brush to pick up dirt and debris. This one uses dual rotating textured rubberized rollers to pick up dirt and debris. This should significantly cut down on the amount of hair (we have pets and my fiance has very long hair) that gets wrapped around the brush and should make it easier to maintain. The biggest downside of the Roomba 890 looks to be the frequent maintenance required for keeping the device in optimal working order. There is a guide in the instruction manual that basically tells you to clean certain parts of the robot anywhere from every day to every 6 months. And virtually any replaceable part is recommended to replace every year. Conveniently you can purchase these replacement items directly from the app that controls the Roomba, however having to spend so much money on replacement parts each year really limits the cost effectiveness of this robot.

    Awesome Vacuum!

I purchased this item for my home in hopes of keeping the floor cleaner without having to put the manual labor in. It definitely lives up to my expectations. I have 3 dogs that stay inside and they shed causing an excessive amount of dog hair on the floor. Most of my house is hardwood so the hair is very visible. I used to have to sweep and vacuum on a daily basis to keep it under control. When I bought the roomba it was a life saver. I run it once a day and my floors stay so much cleaner. It works great on hardwood, tile, and carpet. It also has WiFi capabilities so once I set up the app on my phone and connected it to my Alexa I was able to control it from the app or by voice. It’s been great not having to worry with sweeping or vacuuming so much.

If you're looking for a vacuum that will do all of the work without you having to actually help it then you'll love this. Works well on my carpets and hardwood floors. Love that I can tell it to clean when I'm away from home and find out that unexpected guests are wanting to drop by later. Just open up the iRobot Home App and schedule it to clean or tell it to start immediately so when you get home it's one less thing to worry about. It's definitely pricey but it does it's job well.

This is a pretty nifty robot. I've been wanting one since they debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show years ago. Out of the box, it's quite large. Like "1960's turntable" large, but not very tall. It easily glides under sofas and chairs. After a download of the app and setting up, I let it do its thing. Roomba got confused by my rug, and I can't figure out what algorithms are used to calculate where to go next... it just seems to wander aimlessly and does quite a bit of backpeddling. My biggest quibble is it has very little storage space in the refuse bin. I have 2 large dogs and two cats, so fur shedding is definitely something that requires a lot of attention. The Roomba did ok, but filled the bin really quickly. I'm going to have to give a good overall vacuuming with the cannister vacuum before letting the little roomba go about as daily chores. It is cute from a Starwars fan perspective... it's like I have my own "pet" droid! It's fun to watch it just glide around the floor like a character from WallE or starwars, just minding its own business and maybe bumping into the occasional wall. If you have a big room or multiple hairy pets, I'd skip the roomba, unless you want it for entertainment purposes only. If you have a smaller room or very little carpet, Roomba does a pretty good job of localized cleaning.

I've had this for about 24 hours, and the excitement and wonder has died.... WHAT I LIKE: This guy picked up a lot of filth off my floors. So I can honestly say my floors are cleaner than before. I think the battery life more than meets my expectations as well as the charging time. sucked up a missing phone charger, but nothing traumatic happened to the vacuum or charger and easy to remove. Now the bad: As everyone else has stated, its SUPER DUMB. Watching it work is infuriating. The coolest and smartest thing it does is seat itself on the charging dock properly, when you place it there not perfectly. Other than that, I really don't get it. It goes mostly everywhere, but honestly it loves my bathroom and has spent a majority of its time there, idk why when there are other rooms and a giant living room to work in. Won't go everywhere in a room. Like I really, really wanted it to go and clean under my couch and my bed. Didn't really happen. I watched it go into my bedroom and make a u-turn then head back to my bathroom for the 6th time. Its only "smart" because it has a sensor that will SOMETIMES cause it to slow down before it slams into a wall or other object. It just moves randomly around. It decides, somewhat randomly to me, that a cleaning job is "done". I don't understand how its decided that, and for one of the times it wasn't. Both of these times, it didn't return to the charging dock. I mean what is the point of scheduling and anything if it decides I did a good job now I'll just stop dead in my tracks? Battery was still pretty charged, but why would I want it to just stop in a random spot on my floor? When you press the home button, it has no idea whats going on, its just random luck if it gets close enough to the charger then it will dock. I actually just watched it approach the charger after hitting the home button and once it was a few inches away make a u-turn and try to head in the opposite direction, probably wanting to go into my bathroom again. The app is so-so. The best thing about the app is that it lets you schedule, it tells you the battery life, you can update the unit, and notifies you if it decides its done randomly or has an issue. If it has an issue, lets say the bin is full, it comes with all the directions to resolve the issue, which is great if you lose the manual or just don't want to break it out every time. It tells me BIN IS FULL, AND ROOMBA WONT CLEAN UNTIL YOU EMPTY THE BIN. Thats a lie. Overall, idk how much smarter the next level up is, the 960, but I might try to get that one on sale and send this one packing back to the store. I mean, you buy this because its a decent vacuum, but thats not what you're paying for here right? You want some SMART TECH, you're paying for the intelligence. So what did I just drop all this money on here then if its stupid?

I must say I really feel like George Jetson watching this little robot do the job. It has plenty of onboard technology that let you know that it's full and needs to be emptied, a nerdy little gizmo. And the virtual gate lets you keep cleaning in an area that you designate. The software is great I like that you can set it to clean everyday and it alert you of events that are going on with the Roomba. If it gets stuck you'll know. And the battery life is pretty good and the feature of returning to its own charging base is extra nice. In a room that has a lot of furniture though it takes a little longer for it to do the job. But all in all I would definitely recommend it to anyone that's Gadget savy. Also the setup was a breeze only took about 5 minutes

Pros - cleans under furniture and beds (the BIGGEST plus). You can walk away. Liked the "invisible wall," so you can force it into smaller spaces. I have a friend who swears by hers for pet hair; she does a room a day. I'm a teacher and hoping to use it in my classroom between custodial care. Works on multiple surfaces. Saved me about 20 minutes of vacuuming time ... Cons - ... which took it over two hours. Watch power cords! It can get hung up on them, as well as area rug corners. I couldn't resist the urge to watch, and the path is very random - not sure if it got everywhere and other spots it got multiple times; hence, it takes a LONG time to do one area. Almost felt like I was babysitting it - didn't trust it to do the job, because I watched it a couple of times just go out into the room, do a few lines and return to base. No idea why. Definitely completely charge it before the first use; manual says it comes with some charge, but it's really not enough to do anything significant. Big trouble with the "empty bin" warning light. I followed directions and watched the video. I cleaned it to virtually spotless several times, and the blinking light still wouldn't go off. Finally, I just ignored it. The app is helpful only when you're in the area, can't hear it, and decide to look at the app on your phone. I didn't try the job feature on the app, because we have a multiple layer home, so where would I have its permanent base? I have to pick it up and bring it to a location anyway (and seemed to work best from a corner - tip). Cannot completely replace a conventional vacuum with tools that clean on and near baseboards.

We chose to pay more for the 800 series because it has the rubber rollers instead of the brushes. I have very long beautiful hair but unfortunatly I am always cutting it out of my vacuum cleaners. With the 800 series roomba this is not an issue at all. There are no brushes for my purple strands to get wrapped around. We chose not to upgrade to the 900 series because our house is only 1000 sq ft. The roomba cleans the entire house really well on a single charge. If you have a large layout I recommend getting a robot that has mapping capability and can remember where it left off. We also have a border collie Boston terrier mix named Stitch. The 800 series does a fantastic job cleaning up the pet hair. I was most impressed with its height adjustment. We have industrial style furniture that have iron bars as the base. They are about 3/4 of an inch tall but the roomba navigates over them just fine to clean under the coffe table and end tables. Over all I am very impressed. My back is also thankful.

Shouldn't robots be smart? Well not necessarily. It takes time to acquire the right talent for the right product development. iRobot is getting there as far ingenuity goes. Even though this vacuum doesn't have the latest technology for being considered "smart," it does a fairly decent job in smaller settings. Just have to be patient. Sure, you can vacuum yourself in less than 2 minutes. However, what if you have last-minute plans and you're currently busy? The vacuum can do the work while your productivity can go up!

Yes it goes all over the place. Roomba is a ROBOT not a human. You need to help it think. Resolved by placing Roomba in 1 Room per charge. Yes it may take you a few charges but your house will be squeaky clean and you didn’t even spend a lot of time doing it. 2nd you don’t have to replace filters often at least I haven’t purchased one ever since i bought it and i bought it for Black Friday last year and we are now at March. You just rinse the filter with warm water and let it dry for a day or two and you are done. Luckily it comes with 2 filters. It goes from wood to rugs and it has ruin nothing in my house. I used to get upset with my kids for not cleaning after their pet now i just turn Roomba on and my problem is solve. Yes, I recommend this product not only friends but family.
