Customers enjoy the Roomba 980's impressive cleaning performance, ease of use, and smart navigation. Positive feedback also highlights its effective pet hair removal, strong suction, and convenient app control features. However, some users find the robot vacuum to be noisy and have noted that the dustbin fills up quickly. The relatively high price point is also a recurring concern for some customers.

This is my first robot vacuum. I had done extensive research on different brands and models for about 2 years and wasn't completely satisfied with what was out there in terms of technology. I always thought these units should be connected to wifi. Finally I had seen that iRobot has incorporated wifi connectivity amongst visual mapping navigation. The unit also finally vacuum in straight lines and not random bump and turn lines. All in all I was very satisfied from day one. The setup and scheduling was a breeze using the smart phone app. It was up and running in under 15 minutes and the 980 was finding it's way around the house. It managed to finish most of the upstairs area on the first run before running low on battery. It made it's way back to the charge station, filled up on juice and made it's way back to the spot where it left off to finish the job. Quite amazing. Only addition I would like to see is a beefed up app with charts/graphs. Perhaps show the visual map the iRobot has drawn to see progress of task and perhaps a calculated percentage and time of completion. I'll be adding a second unit to my home for downstairs. Great product! Hopefully long term reliability is not an issue but only time will tell.

Had a few Dysons and while they are good vacuums, wanted to try something automated & with a low profile. We have hardwood floors, carpets/rugs and this handles them all. I’m amazed at what it sucks up. We have two short haired dogs and the ability to get under the couch and navigate into corners is priceless. The mapping and details on the app are very useful. We set a schedule and it knows when to alert/notify us of maintenance. Honestly if you have a variety of floor types this is the model for you.

We love our Roomba!!! Goes under the beds, knows not to go down the stairs, gives us a map of all that is cleaned. It really does a great job picking up pet hair, etc. We have shaggy carpet in the bedroom and was worried at first if it would be able to vacuum and not get stuck, Works Great!!!! I can turn it on and it will sweep while I get other household chores done. Well worth the money!

I've used "Hazel" for a couple of weeks now, and she does an awesome job cleaning the lower level of our home. What I've found is that after about one week, the amount of debris picked up after each vacuum has lessened. This suggests to me that we are now maintaining much cleaner flooring than we previously had. The vacuum strength on the 980 is impressive. It rivals the Dyson upright that we were previously using. So if you fear that something this small couldn't possibly do a nice job extracting dirt, dander, and all the other stuff that you find on your flooring, you can nix those worries. The 980 navigates through our home well, although it can take a lot of time navigating through or around the table and chairs in our dining room. I've found that the best approach is to simply get the chairs off the floor so that they are a non-factor. Doing that reduced the cleaning time significantly. The biggest negative as I see it is that the 980 (like most other robotic vacuum cleaners) can get stuck underneath furniture that is either snug to begin with, or that has a sloped underside. We have the latter, and the 980 has gotten stuck every time we used it. I now have the virtual wall barriers installed underneath this furniture in "halo mode", which eliminates the issue. Since the 980 has visual mapping, I'm not sure why I can't simply draw a border around areas that I would like to avoid in the app. That functionality is feasible... it is already supported by a competitive robot vacuum cleaner.

I bought the iRobot about a month ago. This is one of the best tools I ever bought. It's smart, clean, quiet, fast and convenient. I can trust this tool to get the job done without any troubles and save me a lot of time in doing the chores. The app remote control is also great and easy to manage anywhere I am to make sure the floor is clean. This is a great tool and I hightly recommend this product.

My first Roomba 980 - I got it for 10% off at a Best Buy thanksgiving sale. It works nicely, covers all areas automatically. It gets the work done and saves us lot of time every week. Suction is quite good and no hair stuck. Navigation is superb. It even has a camera now. The free Roomba app for iPhone is perfect, giving overview and detail when you need it. It even has videos there. And FAQs are nicely detailed, along with videos for all important steps, if you need help. Edge cleaning actually works. It's worth it for our 2400 sq ft house. Much better than hiring maid service every other week. Now my wife has time to enjoy with our 5 year old kid. Cons: got stuck under my table, but that's coz the ikea table is bowing down in the center with less than 3 inch height in center and 4 inch on sides. I just fished it out. The app alerted me as to what's going on. Ps: I don't work for Roomba or Best Buy. It's expensive, but worth it for the time saved alone. Highly recommended.

Best investment ever! This thing is amazing. We have 4 animals and kids, and I havent had to vacuum since we got ours! It gets every nook and crannie, and we have no more dust bunnies—-ever! Gets under beds, sofas, tables and chairs. And transitions to rugs and carpet like a charm. We have to empty it around 2-3 times a DAY, because it gets so much debris. I wished we had gotten it sooner.

this vacuum is very easy to use. tell it to start, and your work is done. It will do the entire house. If it needs to recharge, it goes back, recharges, and then continues with the cleaning. It follows a logical pattern. You can use the lighthouses if you want it to focus on a single area. And it does a great job of cleaning.

My husband even loves it. He said, "I think this is the best investment in something for the house we have ever spent!" And...., we have been married for 41 years!!!! Fifi cleans very well, has only got stuck under a piece of furniture once and I fixed that with one of the 2 blockers that came with her, and I can actually SEE A BIG DIFFERENCE in my 14 year old pure white carpet (we also have 2 old cats)! Give the unit a few days to learn your floor plan, she is still getting faster and better each time she runs, which is 10am every day. I really wish they made a comparable wet unit for my tile floors. Apparently they did have one, but have stopped making it and are only making a cheaper version now. I know almost $900 I a lot of money, but Fifi does a really good job, our home is always clean now!!!! I am going to have to re-think the every other week housekeeper. Fifi gets under the beds and sofas that our housekeeper does not. One thing: Keep the dirt bin emptied - particularly for the first week or so, I would have to empty half way through some of the larger rooms. I started having issues with Fifi saying her bin was full when it was only half full. I turned her over, removed the bin and found a large fist full of carpet fuzz, cat hair and dirt back up in the machine itself - which was obviously blocking dirt from getting to the bin. I cleaned that out good and all is well. (The level of fuzz and dirt has finally dropped quite a bit - house is much cleaner!) We live in a fairly large home (2,600 sq. ft. on the first floor), and it takes Fifi from 10am to about 5pm to get it cleaned. She usually takes 2-3 'coffee breaks' to recharge her batteries during that time, but she does all of that on her own and when she is recharged, she goes back to work - LOVE IT!!!!

I did a lot of research before buying the Roomba 980. Now that I’ve been using it for a couple of months, I am happy with the choice. The programmable app via smart phone is handy, but I just as often start it manually at random convenient times, or as I’m leaving the house. I sometimes also move the dock to a particular room, shut the door, or set one of the Roomba virtual wall barriers in the doorway, and turn the robot loose on a limited mission. The ribbed rubber debris extractors, as opposed to bristled brushes, work well. I am impressed with how much dust an dirt it collects from my hardwood floors and throw rugs. (I do not have pets and can't comment on pet hair pick-up.) A big plus is its built-in safeguard against tumbling off a precipice, such as a stairway or a step down to a sunken room. Roomba has amazing “skill” and tenacity at covering all floor surfaces, even if it has to back away and approach a partially enclosed area or vertical object from different angles or directions. Sometimes it will go back and forth over a particular patch, if that area has more debris to pick up than the surrounding floor surfaces. It is also able to negotiate fairly steep thresholds in doorways, though it sometimes requires multiple attempts, and its low profile allows it to get underneath just about every piece of furniture in my home. Its ability to clean under beds is a huge plus. My unit has only gotten stranded once so far, when it ran aground along the upward-curving incline of a rocking chair rocker. After observing the problem, I now move that chair to an inaccessible location or block it off before using the Roomba. Tassels on the ends of throw rugs can give the machine a bit of a challenge, but so far it has always successfully pulled off of them and gone about its work. So far my unit has dutifully returned to its dock for recharging after each completed cleaning, and the charge easily endures long enough for it to cover the roughly 1500 sq. ft. that I typically assign it. Contrary to the impressions of some reviewers, I do not find the Roomba particularly noisy on those occasions when I am at home while it is operating. It emits a consistent mechanical whirring sound, part of which is the suction and air flow, accompanied by a high-pitched motor whine, but I personally do not find it annoying. It is certainly quieter than my ancient upright vacuum cleaner, which by contrast, reminded me of a jet engine. An advantage of the Roomba 980 is that it has two power settings and automatically shifts into a higher (and consequently louder) gear when it traverses a carpet and senses a textured surface or pile. The dust bin and filter should be cleaned frequently. The plastic bin strikes me as being a bit flimsy, and I find myself being careful when handling it and its hinged door. After several uses I applied the hose nozzle of a shop vac to the removable filter and to the opened bin, which helped extract accumulated fine dust. Wiping the inside of the bin with a microfiber dust cloth is also useful. An unfortunate aspect of the Roomba 980 is its high gloss dark metallic exterior surface, which smudges with each touch and shows exterior dust. With each use I wipe the outside of the unit with a clean soft cloth to keep it looking presentable. The 980 is an expensive piece of equipment, but at this stage of my ownership I do not regret the investment and feel that I am getting my money’s worth.

I bought the newest and most expensive Roomba. I paid $899 minus a coupon and a gift card. I probably paid about $300 total out of my pocket. I feel at $899, I would not have bought this Roomba. The Roomba 980 vacuums very well, but not as good as I do. The good thing is it vacuums more often than I do. As for cons the price is one, the app is too basic, Roomba does not hold a 2 hour charge. At best it can go 1 hour. Roomba also went under my couch and got stuck. I tried to use the laser blocks that came with it, but they did not stop it. Overall I do like the robot, but there are a lot of design flaws. If you can get the price down, like I did, then I say go for it. At $899, I would say no.

We have been researching the Roomba(s) for several months.. and finally decided to get the 980... We unboxed it.. set up it's home station, linked it to our iPhone and then set up the weekly schedule. The second time it started up it surprised us as we had forgotten we set the timer. It went about it's cleaning adventure. It worked even better than we had expected. FYI, we had power vacuumed the previous day and yet "Dusty" found lots of dirt and stuff on the tile, carpet and wooden floor areas. Although it would be great if the dust bin were larger, cleaning it was easy. Our only regret is that we did not buy the 980 sooner :-). Ahh, technology!

Bought this for use at work to keep traction flooring clean. I was able to test it out at home first, and loved it there. It did a great job cleaning up around the house, finding its way into every room and narrow opening it could. I had to empty it 3 times on one floor alone! However, when I got it into the office to clean the floor there, it was not able to handle the fine dust we had from our manufacturing work. As it was a work purchase, I had to return it. If you can afford one and want something to clean for you, this is an excellent choice. The phone app allows you to set a 7-day schedule or begin cleaning immediately. Remember to read the maintenance section of the manual There are many moving parts that require routine cleaning. My parents did not remember to clean these parts on their Roomba, which resulted in some scratched hardwood when a wheel locked up.

I bought this Roomba 980 when we moved into our new house. The house has a relatively open floor plan, approx. 3000 sq ft. The first floor is all hardwood flooring. We have a golden retriever and a 16 month old grandchild. I knew it would be a challenge to keep the floors clean and free of dog hair so I bought the Roomba, hoping it would do the job. I have only used it on the first floor because the dog is not allowed upstairs. The Roomba 980 does a great job!!! I know this is a little pricey but I am a pretty harsh critic with stuff like this and I think it is worth the every penny. I have a couple of area rugs and the Roomba easily moves onto and off the rugs, getting rid of the dog hair and anything else on the wood floors and carpet alike. One wool rug is new and sheds a lot so I usually have to empty the machine once before its done. Before the battery dies, the machine does return to its base to recharge! Pretty amazing! It's good to be able to get some other stuff done while the Roomba does the vacuuming.

This thing is a beast! It goes anywhere and everywhere. I bought this to help with the constant dust here in the desert. Majority of my home is tile with several rooms of shaggy carpet. It takes care of both types of flooring but I don’t like the trail it leaves in the deep carpet. The phone app is great, just pull up the app to start or stop. There’s also a map showing the surface that Roomba has covered. It actually collects quite a bit of debris in the collection bin. You do have to empty it often. The app will let you know if it needs to be emptied or contact points cleaned. It is loud but that doesn’t seem to bother me. It can’t get in every nook and cranny due to its size but it’s an enormous help with helping me keep the dust in check. Being the newest model, it also comes with the highest price tag. Having never owned a Roomba before, I can’t compare it to other models. I did have a Mint sweeper that I used often but it can’t even compare to the Roomba. I love this thing and am very happy with my purchase.

We have had the Roomba 980 for over a month and it's so much easier to keep the house clean now. We have a 9 month old yellow lab that sheds like crazy on the dark wood floors. It used to drive me nuts because it made the house constantly feel like it was unkempt. I used to get up early every couple days to sweep the house before going to work. Now our floors are always clean. Roomba picks up every hair and finds its way back to the docking station without any problems. After it's done its cleaning on Saturday or Sunday we break out the Swiffer Wet Jet and do a quick mop of the floors and we're good to go for another week. We've forgotten to close the bathroom door that has a shower stall a few times and Roomba has fallen in twice. Since the step down is only 3 inches it doesn't seem to realize that it shouldn't go in the stall. We picked it up, turned it around, pressed the clean button and Roomba was as good as new. Now we have a routine to always keep the door closed. We love our Roomba so much we go around singing Roomba Roomba Roomba!

I love my little Roomba. I have a German Shepherd that sheds 24/7. This little robot vacuum has really helped to keep up with all the dog hair. If i had a complaint at all, it would be that the filter gets clogged easily. It's not hard to blow out, just wish it wasn't so easy to clog. Our Roomba sweeps wood floors and carpets and does a great job on both. The app is simple and works well. Schedule the robot, dump the debris container, and that's about it.

I love my Roomba 980. With three dogs and three cats a daily vacuum is a must but doesn't always fit in the schedule. She's scheduled to run twice a day and what a difference in the cleanliness of my floors she has made! She's less noisy than my big vacuum, and does a great job with baseboards, baseboard heat, and around appliances. My dogs are not upset by Roomba like the big vacuum, and my cats pretty much ignore her. I'm so glad I made this purchase.

Remarkable. Push the button and forget it. Never gets stuck. Never falls down the stairs. Doesn't eat cords. Picks up dog hair. Cleans edges. Plays around under furniture. Makes a map of where it vacuumed. Start it remotely. Create a schedule. Most importantly, it cleans well. Dust bin is barely big enough. Battery life is good. Too expensive but I love it.
