Good robot vacuum with a good app

This is our second robot vacuum, first from Roomba. You will need to download the mobile app and create an account. I was wondering how it self-empties. In the charging device, there is an area where a disposable bag is attached to a long hose. The other side of the hose connects to the vacuum while it’s docked and charging. The vacuum blows it out of its compartment, through the hose, and into the disposable bag. This process can get loud. At first, I was thinking, more accessories to buy and replace. The bags themselves are inexpensive. You can buy them from Best Buy or Amazon. This feature is very convenient. Our previous robot vacuum had a small storage where I had to keep emptying it every run. This one should hold at least 2-3 runs maybe even more (for our house, which may differ from yours). It also comes with another disposable bag – so you start with two. The app is intuitive to setup. It failed to connect initially. It tried three times then provided a different option to connect and it finally worked. You can schedule the vacuums. You can even have the vacuum map the area. There is a history of recent jobs. Or you can just have it vacuum everywhere. The vacuum is smart enough to return to its base to recharge when the battery runs low. We do not have much carpet. We have porcelain tiles and vinyl. The mop part comes with two filters and cloth. The bins are interchangeable. So, you will have to swap bins if you want to vacuum or mop. This is a huge improvement from our previous robot vacuum. The app is easy to use and has many options.

I have never had one of this type of Vacuum but I can already see the advantages of owning one. I never thought I would need or even like this type of Vacuum but it has sold me wishing I have had one for a much longer time. Out of the box you have to setup its base and get it charging. In approximately 2 hours. While that is going on you need to download the app so when the charging is complete you can teach it where to vacuum in your house. I had some issues with the app too as you have to get a conformation email before you can go any further in the app. I tried multiple time and just gave up until the next day (this was on a weekend) On Monday I tried again and was successful but later that same day I received a whole bunch of emails in answer to my attempts on Sunday. Once I got the app working correctly I set it up to learn my small apt so it can vacuum when I need it too. It is a little noisy when it is running so not something I will use while I am sleeping. Now I did notice that I have to have my phone on my Wi-Fi system, or it would not talk to the Vacuum. It took about 30 minutes to complete its mapping but that will depend on the size and obstacles in its way. You can give it a time and day ot days to run and it will complete its mapped area. I you move furniture or obstructions that were in its way just remap your room.

Roomba iRobot i5+ Decent Vacuum and Robust App

Unboxing and Setup The box is nicely packed. The instructions were stuck to the top of one of the boxes to ensure it was seen first. The top of one of the boxes says to remove the robot first and then the charging station, and when I opened the flap, it said to pick it up with both hands, which made me think the robot was in that box. It wasn't. So, the best approach was to remove the first two boxes from the large box to gain access to the actual robot and then lift the robot out of the box with two hands. I removed the robot and removed the protective tray, and then I was able to lift out the charging docking station. So, to be less confusing, what they should have done is mark which boxes to remove first with a count and then show how to remove the robot from the box and then the docking station. The Getting Started instruction card has six easy-to-follow steps for getting the Roomba set up. Plugged in the cord to the docking station and placed the docking station at its location against the wall. I put the robot into the docking station on the metal contacts; a light on the docking station lit up, and a light on top of the robot lit up to let me know it was connected. After about two minutes, the robot made noises to let me know it was awake. I scanned the QR code on the getting started card to download the iRobot home application. The setup of the app was straightforward. I installed it on my iPhone and created my account. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi were configured, and I selected the Vacuum Everywhere button. Vacuuming Since I have a reasonably large house, it took a while for the robot to explore and vacuum. It had to stop, return to the docking station, and recharge for a couple of hours before it continued. While the movement of the robot seemed random, it did manage to cover all of the floor, and it did a fair job with corners. It didn't have any problem with my mix of hardwood and carpeted floors, and it managed minor thresholds without a problem. With two cats in our house, I was impressed that I didn't have to clean the rollers or wheels when the robot was done. Mopping I had to do some digging to figure out how to swap out the vacuum bin with the combo bin. The Owner's Guide on the Roomba website had the information I needed. The robot does a fair job of light mopping. It's important to note that the pad begins to get wet as soon as water is added. Since my dock is in my carpeted office, I have to send the robot to the kitchen, pause it, swap out the bin, and then continue. That's more work than I wanted for an automated robot. The App After vacuuming, I checked the app, and the house map was pretty accurate. I created labels for each room. Adding individual vacuuming events is done via the "New job" button at the bottom of the screen. When a new job is added, it can be linked to the voice activation on the phone. The app has a Product Health section showing how much life is left (in hours) for the filter and brushes. The Settings section is for robot information, locating the robot, cleaning preferences, language, locking, rebooting, and Wi-Fi settings. Jobs can be scheduled for specific days, times, and rooms and can be set to repeat. A History section shows a complete history of jobs with periods and areas in square feet cleaned. The online help section is very extensive. Overall I am happy with the i5+ Roomba Combo Self-Emptying Vacuum & Mop. For vacuuming, it does a decent job of cleaning my floors. It is easy to clean and maintain. While I would love to give this five stars, I'm taking a star off since I'm not a fan of disposable vacuum bags; the unboxing instructions could have been more precise; I had to go digging to find the steps for using the combo bin, and dragging a wet mop across my mix of carpets is not a good fit for my floors. For someone else's floors, it would work quite well. I'll be sticking with just the vacuuming jobs.

I have owned robot vacuums from many different manufacturers, but this was my first Roomba by iRobot. This is one of their newest models that has both vacuuming and mopping features, as well as a self-emptying dock. Pros: - The suction power was very good. I've had vacuums struggle to pick up cheerios off the kitchen floor before but this Roomba had no issues. Carpeted floors looked great after a single lap. - The app allows you to map rooms and schedule cleanings when, where, and however often you like. - Despite having good suction power, this vacuum is not very loud. You can run it while watching television and not be distracted. - The mopping feature works well, but I don't anticipate using it very often. It doesn't save you much time and you can get a more thorough cleaning the old-fashioned way. - I was impressed by this Roomba's ability to navigate between chair legs under my dining room table (see picture). This is something other vacuums have struggled with greatly in the past as they would get stuck and call for help. This iRobot could find its way in and out without issue. Cons: - During the set-up process with the app, the vacuum had difficulty connecting over WiFi. Luckily the app circumvented this issue automatically after a few failed attempts and everything was good after that. - I have a two story home and had difficulty mapping multiple floors. I tried to find information about how to use this device in a home with multiple floors but couldn't find anything. I'm left to conclude that it's best to just have one device for each floor so they can dock and not have to be moved manually. This is a solid robot vacuum with nice features that can save you time and keep your house clean, even when you aren't home!

I am supper happy with my i5+! I was initially going to go for the top of the line J9+, but decided to try out a lower end model first. I have named him Claymore. He does a good job cleaning my house while I'm at work. It took a few runs to map out my place (which can be viewed on the app), and he got stuck a couple of times (once on my bar stools, another time on a power cord), but once I made a couple adjustments he didn't get stuck again. The auto empty feature was a must have and I can already see that a ton of junk got sucked up. Something to note with these lower end models without a camera is you can't set up "no go zones" without an expensive IR blaster thing (which I did not purchase), for example the area around a dog's water bowl or an entire room without closing the door. I also have not tried the mopping function but I've heard from others that it's not great due to the low fluid capacity. I have a single floor 1500sqft house and it takes about 4 hours for him to vacuum the whole place because he has to stop halfway through to recharge. But he will do that on his own and pick up where he left off after the fact. I'd say this model is good if you don't want to blow $1200 and only need vacuuming ability; otherwise I'd probably spring for a higher end Roomba. But overall I'm happy with the machine!

I purchased the iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum & Mop (Woven Neutral), and it has been a great addition to our home! This smart little machine does an excellent job of vacuuming and mopping, handling daily messes with ease. The self-emptying base is a fantastic feature, making maintenance much easier by automatically collecting debris. That said, like any appliance, routine maintenance is key. The Roomba is small, so if you have larger rooms, you’ll need to monitor the self-emptying bin more frequently to ensure it doesn’t overflow. Clearing out hair, debris, or anything caught in the rollers regularly will keep it running smoothly. I also recommend wiping down the sensors and mopping pad to maintain peak performance. While it’s not a complete replacement for deep cleaning, it does a great job keeping floors tidy between manual mops and vacuums. If you take care of it, this machine will last a long time. It’s reliable, efficient, and a major time-saver for busy households. If you want a hands-free way to maintain clean floors with minimal effort, the Roomba Combo i5+ is a great investment!

We had a Shark robot vacuum for a number of years before we upgraded to this smarter iRobot vacuum. Not only does this vacuum map out your house to make sure it hits all the right spots, but with the map you can create specific areas of your house for it to clean more intensely or more often. You can set multiple cleaning schedules to focus on different rooms, which is amazing! Honestly the best part of the vacuum is the self-cleaning feature so that you only have to replace the bag in the base after a number of cleanings. It comes with different floor attachments, but we haven't got around to trying out the hard floor version (even though we probably should).

I’ll start by saying that I had higher expectations, and was very excited when iRobot was offering moping and vacuuming models. Out of the box setup is always easy, and seamless with iRobot, especially if you’ve owned other models and have the app installed. There is also paper instructions included. No connectivity issues, and I had it up and running in no time. Physically the base station is small and compact, which I really appreciated. It makes you wonder how you can be able to mop too, with such a compact unit. My first issue was when I solely used the vacuuming feature before attempting to mop, as the instructions indicated. It’s also good to map the area first, but maybe my spa footage is too large. For some reason the vacuum was fixated on the area rug in my bedroom, and neglected the rest of my upstairs until it apparently ran out of charge. It’s noisy out of the box, as if something is stuck inside of it, or just an obnoxiously loud motor. There is absolutely no way I would use this as a combo mop. You have to fill the compartment with water and solution, then attach the pad to the combo bin. I ran into connectivity issues once the combo bin was inserted. It’s messy to have to dump, as well as I feel like I could do a better job with a regular mop. Noisy, combo bin connectivity issues, as well as poor cleaning is the reason I am so disappointed in this iRobot.

I purchased before almost 6 months this robot vacuum, and I am thoroughly impressed with its performance. This device has quickly become an essential part of my household cleaning routine. The vacuum is incredibly efficient, navigating my home with ease and covering every inch of the floor. One of the standout features is its powerful suction and ability to pick up dirt, dust, and hair effortlessly. Whether it's hardwood, carpet, or tiles, this robot handles it all perfectly. Additionally, the scheduling feature allows me to set cleaning times, so I come home to spotless floors without any hassle.Maintenance is straightforward, with a user-friendly app that provides notifications when the dustbin needs emptying or the brushes need cleaning. The battery life is impressive as well, ensuring that even larger areas are cleaned in a single charge.Overall, this robot vacuum has exceeded my expectations. It is reliable, efficient, and a true time-saver. I highly recommend it.

The iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ is a great product. Compared to the competitors, iRobot Roomba’s are the complete deal in terms of effectiveness and usability. Roomba’s have been evolving for many years vs. the other guys – so the design is well engineered. Setting up the Combo i5+ was a piece of cake. I’ve not a single complaint about the ease of the setup process and can only rave about the glitch-free operation of the iRobot mobile app. It is intuitive, informative and just works! Adding the i5+ to our IoT dedicated network that runs on 2.4 GHz went without a hitch. Signal strength to the docking station is strong and reliable and bests anything else we've tried. The i5+ and docking station went together with ease and after letting it fully charge, setting the vacuum robot off to map our main living space was fully automatic. During the setup, you can customize the cleaning operation of the robot to do “single pass”, “two pass” or adaptable. The mapping process took around 10 minutes and then we were off to see how well the i5+ would maneuver & clean our floors. We chose to have the cleaning mode set to 2 Pass and the i5+ did a great job of picking up dog hair & dust, leaving no detectable dirty areas behind. The i5+ is a lot stronger than the Shark unit we had been using and it can actually move (push) moderately light obstacles left on the floor, like shoes and small duffel bags & such, so make sure to keep your stuff up off the floor as much as possible. Even with small object and what was thought to be tight passages, the i5+ has never become stuck or trapped. In operation the vacuum unit has a consistently smooth, white noise character to it’s sound. The only really loud part of the system is the docking station during the emptying phase. But that just means that is has the suction force to empty the onboard dust bin. Through the mobile app, the iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ does have a ‘do not disturb’ mode which has worked flawlessly to keep the lights off and preventing the vacuum to going into any kind of “rogue mode” in the middle of the night. That is one thing the Shark couldn’t do and it was very frustrating. The iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ also stays reliably connected to the IoT wireless network. We’ve experienced issues with other brands, some having serious problems in that regard as well. One thing this model won’t do is to allow the user to define a smaller ‘mapped zone’ to go clean that is select-able by way of the app. That’s a feature that Shark provides that is kind of cool. To spot clean with the iRobot Roomba Combo i5+, you have to pick up the vacuum module and take to the area you want to focus on, set it down – and then hit the Spot Clean button on the top of the unit. So, it’s pretty much a manual process. It gets the job done for quick clean ups but it’s not very flexible or app savvy. The interchangeable wet mop cartridge is super easy to use and change out. It does a good job maintaining a clean tiled floor and has the capacity to do so for an average sized kitchen or bathroom(s) but probably not both. And I wouldn’t rely on it 100%. Every floor needs a good, old fashioned more vigorous cleaning with a full-sized machine or hand wet mop - but for the weeks in between those deep cleanings - the i5+ is excellent helper for maintaining those hard surfaced floors. Pros: Well-engineered and easy to get going iRobot quality and inherently well designed Outstanding mobile app that is intuitive, informative and easy to navigate We haven’t had a single ‘middle of the night’ rogue robot incident or any type of WiFi connectivity issues. The entire ecosystem of the iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ has worked together flawlessly for weeks. Cons: None

The good: - Cleans extremely well - Not overpriced - Fairly quiet during cleaning sessions The bad: - Mapping a floor takes a long time. If it runs into an issue, you need to start again. - the automatic bin emptying after a clean is extremely loud so don’t use near sleeping babies or light sleepers. - Expect to spend some time rearranging the room dividers that are auto identified during mapping. I found all lines to be slanted and random dividers added where there are no room separations The potential deal breaker: - The lack of a multi floor mapping option means you are stuck having to carry it to the other floor every few days. You can’t run selective room cleaning on the other floor which is almost a deal breaker. I almost returned the product because of this.

The iRobot does a good job although the battery is not quite as powerful as the older model. However, I just changed the auto clean schedule to accommodate it and I'm just as happy as I can be! Also, on older models, iRobots with the mop function would streak the floors. This model makes them SHINE with NO streaks!

The iRobot Roomba i5+ is a polarizing device for me. On one hand, it has nice features that I consider must haves on robot vacuums such as an auto emptying bin and the ability to mop. On the other, the robot itself is basic and lacking in the ability to avoid obstacles or create zones on the map to avoid for the sake of mopping or keeping away from cables and such. I feel like it is a bizarre combination especially since I have a multi-story home and now own several robots to keep each floor clean and this one doesn’t compare well to the others I have that it competes against. It is an attractive design, feels well built, and is quiet relative to my other robots but it does have several quirks. As mentioned, it can map out the space it resides in, and you can name the rooms and tell it which ones to clean but for some reason it precludes the ability to mark out carpeted areas or zones that are hazards for it that you might want it to avoid. For example, it fits perfectly under my entertainment center and incessantly gets caught up on all the cables for my gear. I have to physically find something to block it from getting under there and that is the only way to prevent it from doing so. Even the app will state that you must block carpeted areas or close doors to keep it out of those spaces that it shouldn’t enter with the mop attached as you cannot specify on the map what it shouldn’t do. I don’t understand why it even bothers with a map if you can’t use it to help keep the robot out of trouble all the time. Then to add further insult, the robot is unable to detect obstacles in the room well enough to avoid them. It will run over my speaker stands and get high-centered, grab every cable it can find, and spend the rest of the time ramming into everything else constantly. I’m more accustomed to my other robots from a different brand being more careful around things and less likely to get stuck. It does a great job with its primary function, which is of course to clean the floors. It uses a grid pattern while moving around and is thorough as a result. The mopping was difficult to setup since you cannot just put the mop bin on and send it on its way, you must first set it up via the app and “pair” the mop combo bin to the robot. It is an additional complication that feels entirely unnecessary and took many tries to get right since my robot would not stay connected to the app while I tried to get the mop bin setup. Eventually I got it and then found that once you fill the mop bin with water or cleaning solution it immediately starts leaking out which is how it’s designed. This means that you cannot leave the robot alone while it mops, once it is finished you must collect the mop bin from it, or it will leak all over the floor. It did a decent job with mopping, but it was annoying to have to collect all the rugs off the ground first and then make sure that it wasn’t left alone long after wrapping up. Having this robot mop is a lot more involved than I would prefer. Of course, using this device requires an app on your smartphone. The app is relatively simple, yet simultaneously difficult to navigate. It took me a long time to figure out how to sync the mop bin to my robot for example, and experienced major connectivity issues with the robot that I could not resolve by force closing the app, rebooting the robot, or anything else I tried until I restarted my iPhone. I’ve never had a problem like that before. The app allows you to make a schedule and see the cleaning history and status of the robot as well as quickly access the parts store for ordering replacement parts for the robot itself. Ultimately, the Roomba i5+ isn’t perfect by any means and needs a lot more babysitting than I think it should. I like it, but I also don’t. It does a good job in some ways and is a disaster in others. Your mileage with it will definitely vary.

Had a small issue with it the forth time it started that needed a gear to be lubed up that took 10 minutes to fix. The vacuuming and mapping is great. My dog sheds like Crazy and it picks up a good 90% of everything. Mopping feature it okay, obviously not as good as swifter it and some elbow grease but it’s okay. I hate vacuuming and this thing is a godsend. Buy it. Make sure to know where the sensors are in the bins to clean so it registers correctly .

Love the ease of use, but it has its downfalls. Does tend to get snagged/ tangled up on things pretty easily if you leave things lying around. Mop feature for my home is almost useless, but doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for you. The (no go zones) feature would make this model exponentially better. But for its basic purpose and ease of use it does its job perfectly.

I have a golden retriever who sheds alot and this vacuum really helps my house stay cleaned in between deep sweeps and mopping. It does do very well picking up the hair and dirt. However I only have four stars because I feel the mopping doesn’t do a very deep clean so i have to mop again. But overall I do like the vaccum.
