Time-Saving Marvel with a Few Considerations

Setting up the iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ was a breeze and the intuitive app provided a seamless connection to the device, and we were up and running in no time. The accurate mapping feature is a standout, ensuring thorough coverage and efficient cleaning throughout our 1800 sq. ft. upstairs space. The convenience of self-emptying and auto-filling capabilities was also a welcome addition! One of the most impressive features is the robot's ability to detect carpets, ensuring a thorough cleaning on different surfaces. I was impressed with how easily it made the transition and pulled up the mop head as it did so. A notable consideration is that the Roomba Combo j9+ leans more towards being a spray mop than a traditional wet-mop vacuum. I'm not sure if that's clear, but we all know those wet jet mops that sprays a controlled amount of water or solution on the floor before absorbing the excess in the pad. From what I can tell there is not a dirty water tank that needs to be emptied specifically. While this method effectively tackles dirt and grime, users should be aware of the difference, especially if they were expecting a more robust mopping experience. As a couple working from home, finding the right time to run the machine has become a bit of a challenge. The two-hour runtime for our 1800 sq. ft. space means we need to plan carefully to avoid disruptions during conference calls or while we're on work-related tasks. The noise level, although expected with any robot vacuum, is loud enough to be distracting during important calls. Regrettably, we can't run it while we sleep due to the noise, limiting its overnight cleaning potential. In conclusion, the iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ is a powerful cleaning assistant with advanced features that promise to save time and effort. However, potential users should be aware of more basic mop functionality and carefully consider the timing of its operation, especially in a work-from-home environment where noise can be a significant factor. Despite these considerations, we remain excited about the overall convenience and effectiveness it brings to our home cleaning routine.

Bleeding Edge of Robot Vacuum Technology

I’ll start by saying I love this thing. 75% of my home is hardwood floors with the bedrooms being carpeted. My floors look fantastic and that says a lot. I have four cats, two long hair and two short hair, and you can hardly tell they live here by looking at my floors. The only thing that would make it better is if it could crawl up my couches and vacuum those too. The hardware is well built, convenient, and easy to use. The base station has a water reservoir you can fill with tap water or mix with Roomba specialized cleaner. The self-emptying function of the base station contains a dust bag as well. They even thought of putting shelves on the access door to put extra bags or fold up your clean mop head. The base station also has some design language to make it look more decorative and less like an appliance in the corner. I also liked that it came with an extra filter, mop, dust bag, and brush. As for the vacuum itself, it seems very well made, only a single button on top, but different that my previous models, it has what appears to be a camera system on the front that aids in cleaning and navigation. This model tout’s obstacle avoidance which I’ll talk more about a bit later as well as a retractable mop that stows away when on carpet and automatically moves into position when it comes back to the hardwood floor. Once you fill up the reservoir in the base station, the vacuum will automatically fill up its water tank when it docks, empty its dust bin, and it’s ready to slay the dirt on your floor. The app and software is where the iRobot shines. With the app you’ll be able to set up and connect your vacuum to Wi-Fi. Once connected, I had a software download which took only a few minutes. After a reboot I was able to send it out in discovery mode. I actually did my best to leave everything as it is, only picking up some cat toys and moving a few cables up off the floor. After a few initial discovery runs I was ready to set up custom jobs which you can tailor to clean specific rooms. After some mapping runs you can customize your map and start looking at the dirt detective feature which identifies which rooms may need more frequent cleaning. With custom cleaning jobs you can set up a multitude of different cleaning preferences from vacuuming only, vacuuming and mopping, suction power, amount of water to use for mopping, which rooms to clean, how many passes to make. The customization is really amazing and allows you to get very specific to how you want to clean your home or space depending on foot traffic and convenience. For example, I work from home during the day and take a lot of calls. I’ve set up cleaning that avoids my home office and does a quicker job with fewer passes during a time of day where I’m not on many calls. The cleaning itself is fun to watch. The way it discovers new rooms and makes passes to known rooms to get the floors clean. It does a decent job of avoiding pets, feet, and other larger objects. It gently bumps new items so no concerns for dents or dings in the furniture or walls. I did have it give my foot a little bump when it wasn’t directly in its path as well as have the brushes tickle my feet. I think is mostly due to them not being in the direct path of the front camera. Also, during one of the cleanings, I found an envelope on the floor that got a thorough cleaning from the Roomba. The lighting in both scenarios was in dim lit rooms, so that is likely a factor. On the other hand, when we were feeding the cats, it was sure to avoid where they were sitting and eating. I don’t expect perfection, and this is much better than the bump and test methods of older models. Also, I want to make sure I mention that iRobot’s YouTube channel is what all manufacturers should strive to provide to their customers. There are detailed how-to videos which guide you through replacing just about every user replaceable item on your vacuum. There are several troubleshooting videos with helpful tips on clearing errors and maintaining proper function. This gives me confidence as a consumer that if I buy this product, that I have help as an owner directly from the manufacturer on how to properly care for my product as well as recommended troubleshooting. Our floors are noticeably cleaner. Because of the animals we probably vacuum more than the average non pet home. I no longer see the gatherings of pet hair that would prompt me to grab the stick vacuum and do spot cleans. Now I have confidence that my floors are cleaner and mopped more frequently which creates a cleaner environment, cleaner air, and confidence that my home is cleaner because of this top-of-the-line vacuum.

The iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ is awesome! The self-emptying and auto-fill features make life so much easier, and it vacuums and mops like a pro. It gets around my place without getting stuck, and I barely have to think about it. Plus, the black design looks pretty cool. Definitely happy with this one!

The iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ is the finest robot I've ever used. This robot vacuum is the ultimate ally to any homeowner with or without children or pets, and keeping your floors clean is important to you. The robot vacuum itself is a high quality cleaning machine that navigates through the rooms with ease. It knows when to vacuum the floor and when to lay down the mop pad to smart scrub the hard surface floors. My home is mainly hard surface laminate flooring and there are multiple area rugs through the first floor area. The mapping ability of this iRobot Roomba has impressed me thoroughly because it has been so precise. The map that it has presented to me within the iRobot app is 100% accurate for where there are carpets, and where there is a hard surface. The app is a very simple to use app with just a small learning curve. It allows me to operate the vacuum manually, automate it to be on a regular cycle/schedule, and it also has a map that allows me to configure the rooms. This vacuum is the most accommodating robot vacuum that I've ever used in my home. It can avoid obstacles on the floor such as a pet toy, or a child toy randomly laid on the floor without running it over. The mop feature on this vacuum is a retractable mop that rises from the top and drops under the robot vacuum. Smart vacuum at its finest on display here. It knows the surface type and what function to do based on the surface. Smart scrubbing mop is a great feature for high traffic areas as the mop goes back and forth with constant pressure to get that grime off the floor. I have noticed my floors feeling cleaner and just overall smoother. The home base of this unit is a bit larger due to the components housed within. There is a liquid reservoir in which the owner needs to use the appropriate liquid cleaning solution. There is also a self contained bagging system in which all the dirt, hair, debris from the robot vacuum get placed into the home base disposal. The home base here is a tasteful and upscale look that exudes high quality and is not distracting in my home. It looks like a small air purifier and easily blends in due to the unique housing of the robot vacuum tucked under the home base. The iRobot vacuum knows when to auto fill its liquid reservoir and when to empty itself into the dock. iRobot has crafted the app for this vacuum very well, as I'm using this iOS version on my iPhone 13 Pro. I am able to customize so many features of the robot vacuum to control suction power, how many passes I want to do, edge cleaning, control over mop or vacuum or both to happen. The vacuum is constantly learning and becomes smarter based on your home and what the camera learns in its surroundings. If your home has a voice enabled assistant you can use this Combo j9+ effortlessly. Works with Alexa in our home and it's very intuitive. According to the iRobot details, this will work with Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa when paired with the compatible service. This is hands down my favorite robot vacuum I've owned and I've had a few over the years. Best suction, best aesthetics, best mopping feature, best debris disposal, best smart mapping, and best app functionality. You'll need to decide if the price is right for your needs. I have been able to declutter my home from all the extra mops, and wet mops I have been keeping in my supply closet. This one iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ gives me the floor cleaning I need all in one device. Well worth the cost and helpful for me as a parent with a busy lifestyle.

    Great All-in-one Roomba

I’ve never had a “Roomba” before - but I have had other robotic vacuums, so I was super excited to not only get a Roomba J9+, but to also get one that mops & self-empties! TL;DR for my frequent readers and details below! Unboxing Easy No issues connecting to Wi-Fi 6E Mesh network Aesthetically pleasing Good job vacuuming Good job wet cleaning Meh: Noisy while running Noisy while emptying Requires multiple points of cleaning after basic use Should have a scrub brush for cleaning the dirt tray Bad: Nothing really I must say, this is a pretty slick unit. It’s packaged well with minimal assembly and I found that very nice. The housing acts as the empty & fill station, as well as a cabinet for replacement accessories like extra bags and edge cleaners. It also has a nice faux wood top, which can act as a bit of a stand, so that it’s not taking up space unnecessarily. When installing the mop pad, I couldn’t figure out how it cleaned the floor if it was put on the top of the vacuum, but it all made sense later. The setup was a breeze through the app and the software update went without any issues. I did disable the ‘camera’ function for obstacle avoidance, as this feature did make the news a while back and didn’t want that running here. When mapping the house, the bristles were moving and the Roomba was bouncing all over the house. During this process, it did very well and managed to collect a bunch of dust as it went, but didn’t clean because - well, it wasn’t in cleaning mode so – to be expected. The map was pretty accurate and the App portion after the fact is VERY cool - label the rooms, place ‘blocks’ for places it shouldn’t go - and even noted where there were throw rugs based; I was impressed. After a few runs, I elected to use the ‘no go’ zones, as one area was just a pain due to it being a weight bench & weights area, the other was a bathroom where the door shuts itself and locks the unit in there. I like the fact that you can tie it into your home “automation” and say: go clean the kitchen and it’ll head on over and clean the area you have designated as the kitchen. I found that it took about 10 minutes to do the small area in the kitchen & around the island. Something to note here: the mopping pad is a mop, not a scrubber so it’s going to pull the water and not scrub little drops that may be on the floor in the kitchen. If the floor is relatively sticky spot free, this is a great ‘touch up’ device but if you do have something that needs a bit of a scrub, then you’re still on your own to get that done (for the most part) before running the robot mopper. The vacuum portion is pretty good. The only area I found it missed and had full access to, was a small section of baseboards. If I have to do a quick touch-up after on the baseboards - that’s fine with me after saving some serious vacuuming / mopping time. When mopping or vacuuming, the robot is loud. Even louder is the self cleaning function, so it's definitely not something you want to do at night when the house is asleep, or when you’re trying to watch TV. I plan on running this when I’m not home. After a few runs with both, I decided to clean the unit to see how much effort it takes, what the pieces are & how easy it is and it’s not all that terrible. First, I Had to remove the water tank and empty it - just a simple button push to eject it. I found that the disassembly of the components that are meant to be taken out is tool-free, except for the corner brushes which require a Phillips screwdriver. The rollers unhook and the casters pop off for super simple cleaning. The tray leading to the debris collector was very dirty and since the water had dried, there was a lot of stuff caked on and could have used some type of scrub brush, but my finger was sufficient for most of it. Reassembly was just as simple and that was refreshing. All in all, this was a great unit that did the job I expected it to do. Recommended!

I’m thoroughly impressed with the iRobot vacuum and mop! It’s become an indispensable part of my cleaning routine. The vacuum feature picks up dirt and debris efficiently, while the mop leaves my floors spotless without any extra effort from me. I love that it can seamlessly transition from carpet to hardwood floors, and the automatic scheduling makes it easy to keep my home consistently clean without lifting a finger. The navigation is smooth, and it even avoids obstacles like furniture with ease. The added convenience of being able to control it via an app or voice commands makes it even more user-friendly. Overall, it's a time-saver and has made cleaning a breeze

I like the unit, I like the way the vacuum does not run when traveling, The map is good, telling it to clean a room is nice. What I do not like is when the engineers make upgrades and they fail by making things not work right and fail to accept they made an error. The robot worked perfect up to the update just before Halloween, than it went downhill, and support is blaming me. Not accepting for the first year there were zero issues. After the update, the base said it could not detect the water tank, yet it has been empty for the whole year. Adding water turned off the light, but way after the firmware update, can not have water, I have carpet!

I've been using robot cleaners for my home for a while (I'm not a big fan of manual labor, lol) and previously used separate robots for vacuuming and moping. After a while I made a list of things that I need to have: * It must be a single machine, I don't like 2 robots out at the same time, they don't sync well, they make twice the noise * Self emptying station is a must, robots typically have a very small dust compartment and require emptying quite often which is a messy job. This Roomba combo unit hit all my requirements. All I really need to do is to fill the water/cleaning solution tank in the base (which is actually huge, holds at least a gallon) and change the dust bag in the base when it's time. Everything else is hands off! Robot will gradually discover your house and build a detailed map, every room will be marked along with flooring type and how dirty it was last time so robot will be able to predict when next cleaning is needed. You can pick the rooms (or areas like "around the couch") in the app and send robot on a cleaning mission. Robot will take pictures of unknown objects (like curtains) and send them to you so you can decide - should robot avoid those or not. Now a few minor issues I had - robot did get stuck a couple of times and quite often has issues with docking. It will stop 3 feet off the docking station and report a "docking issue" in the app. I hope those growing issues will get fixed in the future software updates. Overall - if you have a combination of hardwood and carpet - it's the robot for you!

Great attempt that could use a couple tweaks. I like many things about this robot, the robot does a lot of things well such as vacuuming and covering everywhere it possibly can. What I don’t like is the mop feature, I don’t feel it’s very effective even with the smart scrub activated. The pad is pretty thin and gets saturated pretty quick. I feel it doesn’t do a good enough job absorbing the actual dirt from the floor and rather spreads it around. Where the robot is a winner is with the retractable mop pad though, no issues whatsoever of having wet rugs or carpets. I think the $1500 price tag is a bit much for what this particular robot has to offer. Especially considering the base isn’t as “smart” as competitors for the same price or cheaper.

    Roomba j9+ combo

**Performance and Efficiency (3.5/5):** The Roomba j9+ Combo impresses with its strong suction power, effectively picking up dirt, dust, and pet hair on various surfaces. Its unique feature is the ability to vacuum and mop simultaneously, which, in theory, should save time and effort. However, the effectiveness varies significantly across different floor types. While it performs admirably on hard floors, its mopping functionality sometimes falls short on more stubborn stains or uneven surfaces. **Navigation and Smart Features (4/5):** Equipped with iRobot's latest navigation technology, the j9+ Combo does an excellent job mapping out spaces and avoiding obstacles. Its ability to learn and remember the layout of multiple rooms and floors is commendable, allowing for targeted cleaning missions. Integration with smart home ecosystems like Alexa and Google Assistant adds to its convenience, enabling voice commands. However, some users might find the initial setup and mapping process somewhat tedious and time-consuming. Additionally, while the obstacle avoidance technology is advanced, it can sometimes be overly cautious, leading to longer cleaning times. **Maintenance and Reliability (2.5/5):** The Roomba j9+ Combo's self-emptying feature is a standout, minimizing direct interaction needed for emptying the dustbin. This makes it particularly appealing for busy individuals or those with pets. However, the maintenance cost and effort can be higher than expected. The proprietary bags for the self-emptying base are an ongoing expense, and the mop pads—though reusable—require frequent cleaning for optimal performance. Some users have reported issues with the vacuum's reliability over time, including errors in navigation and decreased suction power, which can be frustrating given the premium price point. **Design and Build Quality (4/5):** With its sleek, modern design, the j9+ Combo is built to blend seamlessly into most home decors. The quality of materials and construction is evident, reflecting its premium status. The D-shape design is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional, allowing for better edge cleaning. However, its size and height might limit its ability to clean under some furniture, a common limitation among robotic vacuums. **Value for Money (2.5/5):** The Roomba j9+ Combo's high cost is a significant consideration for potential buyers. While it offers advanced features and conveniences, the mixed performance on mopping, ongoing maintenance costs, and occasional reliability issues detract from its overall value proposition. For those willing to invest in the latest technology and prioritize vacuuming over mopping, it might be worth the premium. However, individuals looking for more consistent mopping performance or those with a tighter budget may find better value in other models or brands. **Conclusion:** The Roomba j9+ Combo is a technologically advanced robotic vacuum that offers a glimpse into the future of home cleaning. Its smart features, strong suction, and self-emptying capabilities are notable strengths. Yet, its performance inconsistencies, especially in mopping, combined with the high initial and ongoing costs, make it a mixed bag. It shines as a sophisticated, if not perfect, solution for those seeking the cutting edge of home cleaning technology, provided they are willing to overlook its shortcomings and invest in its premium pricing.

I have had iRobot j9+ combo for less than 3 months. Issues I regularly face: 1) Doesn’t refill - no matter how many time I click refill it doesn’t. What I do instead is to let it vacuum nearby for 10 seconds and then send it home. Then click refill, it then refills. For some reason now that doesn’t work either. 2) Doesn’t charge: to fix this I physically pull it out or follow the step above 3) cannot find home: it dies out searching for the home 4) doesn’t clean well if you chose only one room: For example, if I tell it to clean the kitchen and it will clean a small part of the kitchen in the middle and goes back home. It also shows me this exactly on the map of what it cleaned. This all happened 2 days after my 30 day return policy ended with bestbuy or else I would have returned it.

Hello i love this traded in J5 for the J9 the main issue is see, which is in the forst steps, people put the robot in the wrong place it needs distance on wither side and not near stairs. Everyone with a one star review has it in a corner or tucked inbetween something….thats why its not working. Also it says pick things up…so dont leave random shoes and cords around or bathroom mats that are carpeted. But this thing is awesome!!!!!!

Decent performance when it works, but I'm up to 6 replacements in 6 months, and the current one is also broken, but the company won't replace it any more. I have it clean a mix of hardwood and carpeted floors, and while there are a lot of smaller problems, like it leaves a black strip on the trim around my entire house, the most frustrating part is that every single replacement hasn't charged correctly. It will stop charging on the dock in the middle of the run. It won't charge for days at a time. A couple replacements started having charging issues the same day that I got them. Neither rebooting nor cleaning contacts seems to help. The company won't help; the case has been stuck in Tier 2 support for over 2 months. Avoid, it's more hassle than it's worth.

This robot is a good compromise for a combination of Vacuum and Mop. So it's a Jack of all trades and a Master of none. PRO... 1. All-in-one solution for mopping and vacuuming. 2. Automatic refill of the mop solution is good. 3. The cleaning base is easy on the eyes and holds your accessories. 4. Improvement over the M6 mop CON... 1. For being labeled as the most powerful suction is for nothing because of the position of where the rollers are located the vacuum can't reach corners. 2. The software is the biggest letdown. Nothing has changed since the device has "NEW TECH" baked into the robot. 3. Still has issues with mapping and keeps creating rooms that don't exist. 4. The price is a few hundred dollars too expensive. I think the price point should be sub $1000.00. there are more enticing competitors in the $1400.00 price bracket. I think they are holding back on the possibility of this robot's potential. I had replaced my older dedicated Brava M6 mop and the Roomba S9+ vacuum with this "Newer Tech" all-in-one robot thinking that it would have taken the best of both worlds and combined them and made an awesome robotic vacuum and mop. Unfortunately, they did improve on the mopping side but the vacuum side is a letdown. It's very similar to the design of the original Roomba(I have working for over 12 years and still going) the vacuum rollers are located in the center of the device and it is dependent on the sweeper arm to collect and feed the Roomba. Unlike the S9 where the rollers are located at the front of the device, the sweeping arm is just an extra layer of reaching in tight spaces. I think the design was an afterthought.
