I always thought these devices were just toys. Nothing could be further from the truth. In my home I have carpet, tile, and laminate floors.. This product cleans them all beautifully. After unboxing and not finding a real get started booklet I charged up the unit in its base station. I saw that there is an APP for my Google phone which I downloaded and followed the instructions on setting up the Roomba i5+. The APP connected my Roomba to my home network by providing step by step instructions. It only works on 2 Ghz Wi-Fi so I had to temporarily deactivate my 5Ghz network for the first connection only. Now the true power of the Roomba is on display on the APP. The first thing the Roomba did was learn it’s way around my foyer, living and dining rooms and the kitchen. It navigated all surfaces without issue. It knew somehow not to go past the steps leading down to the den. Then I told it to vacuum the entire area. It started the process but after around 30 minutes it returned to the base station to empty its debris automatically. It then continued on its way to finish the entire area. It stopped once and I was alerted on the APP that the rollers had to be cleaned. Since this was the first cleaning there was a lot of debris on the floor and it found a rubber band. It was very easy to clear this issue and it continued on its way. It cleaned up all areas, even under the cabinets and dining room chairs. It was actually fascinating to watch it find its way around the rooms. I have a Golden Retriever that sheds 12 months a year. That hair has yet to stop the Roomba from it assigned mission. After it learned my rooms I am now able to tell it if I only want a specific room vacuumed. I can also schedule when I want the rooms cleaned. Since it returns to home base to empty its debris bin it will vacuum all rooms many times before I have to change the bag that automatically captures the debris. I never have to come in contact with the contents. If the battery gets low during the cleaning it will return to base to charge before continuing it’s mission. I saw this happen on the first run only when the floors were at their worst. There is also an Alexa skill that I use. I can ask Alexa to start the cleaning process and several other commands like go home and pause. Roomba will also send notifications to all my Alexa devices should there be an issue that requires my attention. After owning it just a few days I am spoiled and will need to get two more for the other floors in my home. I'm sorry to have waited so long to get my first one. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Review for iRobot - Roomba i5+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum Roomba made some of the very first robot vacuum cleaners and they continue to improve them with this model. The Roomba i5+ is a step up in several ways. I especially like the self-emptying feature. I have dust allergies, so routinely emptying a robot vacuum is not great for me. The i5+ automatically empties itself once the dirt cup is full. If the vacuuming job is not finished, it will empty itself and then continue cleaning. The system collects the debris into small, disposable bags that seal themselves when you remove them from the base. Roomba claims that they will last 30-60 days depending on whether you have pets, or not. Here’s hoping! I’ve seen some comments about the noise the system makes when emptying, but it’s momentary and very thorough, so I really don’t mind. Others have commented about the noise of i5+ when it’s vacuuming, and I have to agree, it is louder than my older Roomba, but I also think the vacuuming quality is better. I prefer the stronger vacuum capabilities and just set it to clean when I either am on a different floor, or not at home. Speaking of which, there is a setting that detects when you’re away, and vacuums during that time. It sounds great, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’m also a big fan of the improved rollers that do not trap pet fur like regular brushes. They do a great job picking up hair and fur, without the messy or difficult cleanup. First time use: after setting up the Roomba and connecting it to the app - both very simple and straightforward - I sent it out to map my cleaning area. I was surprised by the accuracy of the map, but I did need to tweak a few room borders due to the open nature of my main floor. The app makes it easy to move walls, name rooms, and make other adjustments. This is very useful if you want to use voice controls from Alexa or Google. It’s easy to say, “vacuum the kitchen,” or “clean everywhere” and the Roomba complies. It’s currently pollen season, here in New England, so I was pleased (and shocked!) by the amount of pollen the i5+ collected in its filter. I wish the filters were washable, but you can knock most of the debris out of the filter by tapping it. I just bought a multi-pack of filters and change it about once a month during this time of year. I’m just happy that it’s sucking up the pollen and not me!

Great Smart Vac with a Smaller Profile

We got this model to replace an i3+ because it seemed like the old model was starting to break down and this i5+’s tower has a smaller profile. The tower even includes a small space to store a replacement bag for the dirt dispenser, which is nice to have. The i5+ seems to be more responsive than the i3+ and has a better battery; with the i3+, there were times that it had to return to base to recharge in order to finish a “Vacuum Everywhere” job, whereas the i5+ was able to handle the same job on a single charge. I like that you can transfer maps from the old model to the new one through the app. It even keeps designated rooms. It’s nice that you can make customized room dividers, in case you have a section in a room that you don’t want touched, like if you have your Christmas tree up too long. It’s great that the app can track the product health, so you can see how much time you have left on the filter, the brushes, the bag, etc. If you like to stock up before things get used up, this is very useful.

    Pretty good robotic vacuum!

Last year, we had gotten a Roomba i5+ Combo (with mopping capability) and its self-emptying bin to pair up with another self-emptying robot vacuum (of another brand) and replace the 7-year old 980 model that its battery wasn't lasting very long for cleaning the upstairs of our house (would take two cycles with needing to manually empty the bin while charging after the first cycle). Unfortunately, almost immediately after getting that i5+, the other self-emptying vacuum stopped working. Since then, we were preparing to move to a single-story house with more tile floor throughout and decided to get another robot vacuum to handle the carpeted areas and finally use the mopping feature on the "older" i5+ Combo on the tile. Since we have decided that we would only get self-emptying vacuums from now on (to make it easier to run on a schedule even when we are not home since we wouldn't need to manually empty the dust bin), we figured that the new "non-mopping" i5+ would work just great for that. One thing I noticed that iRobot had improved in just 8 months was information provided in the setup process. For the other i5+, it would let you connect to any wireless router, either 5GHz or 2.4GHz band, but if it connected to 5GHz, it wouldn't finish setting up and wouldn't give a reason. Now, it mentions up-front that it will only connect/work with a 2.4GHz connection. After quickly adding this one to our account, it was ready to go. We did do a quick test at our previous house on the upstairs carpet (since it was pretty empty with a lot already moved downstairs or gotten rid of). It did a good, quick job of getting to the rooms we left open and did it's normal detection of the edge of the stairs (so it didn't make a quick trip downstairs). After we moved, I deleted the previous map and ran it with a full run to create a map of the new house so we could assign the rooms witih carpet that it would be cleaning. As we found before, since it doesn't have the same camera/LIDAR detections that the 980 did, the map itself isn't quite the most accurate, although it is close enough to still set things up as we needed. One thing we have that has always been an issue with the two oldest vacuums we have used is a thicker rug in the family room. This new i5+ does a better job at working to get onto it, even if it has to try from different directions to get the first wheel onto it. Once it finishes (or runs out of battery), it returns to the charging base, and initiates the dust bin emptying process. Be aware that while the vacuum itself is fairly quiet when vacuuming, the emptying vacuum in the base tower is not (but it does a good job at getting everything out). While we do like the i5+ as it meets our needs without getting too fancy (even if some of the higher models would work great for us as well), be sure to go to the iRobot website and "Compare Products" to make sure you find best model for your home.

    Budget-Friendly Robovac with Few Flaws

Back in 2020 I bought another robot vacuum for the same price from a different band. It hasn’t been great. So when I saw the Roomba i5+ I knew it was time to upgrade. And I’m glad I did! The iRobot Roomba i5+ offers a great package for shoppers looking for a budget-friendly way to keep their house clean. As one of the more affordable robot vacuums with self-emptying, it delivers on convenience. Cat owners will particularly appreciate its powerful suction, easily tackling kitty litter. Speaking of pets, I haven’t had a single issue of having to cut or unravel hair from the rollers. My previous robovac needed it once a session. The iRobot app adds another layer of control, with plenty of features to customize cleaning schedules and preferences. However, the Roomba i5+ isn't without flaws. It's noticeably loud during operation, where I more than once had to pause my computer speakers or turn them up all the way in order to hear over the vacuum. Definitely wouldn’t feel comfortable running it at night or during work meetings. While it does map your rooms, the accuracy isn't the best, sometimes leading to missed spots or inefficient cleaning patterns. Additionally, the self-emptying bin relies on disposable bags, adding a recurring cost over time that’s not very eco-friendly. Overall, the Roomba i5+ strikes a solid balance between price and performance. If you're seeking a reliable robot vacuum that empties itself and handles pet hair or kitty litter with ease, the i5+ is a worthy contender. Just be prepared for some noise and be aware of its mapping limitations. Pros: Best budget robovac Self emptying makes life easier Strong suction picks up all the kitty litter with ease Rollers don’t get tangled with hair! App is robust with features Cons: Quite loud! Room mapping isn’t great Self emptying bin uses bags

Great floor cleaning with very little effort.

I’ll start with this; I’ve had older model Roombas in the past and have been a big fan of them overall since they help keep the floor clean without too much thought or effort on my part. With that said I’m happy to say that this vacuum is even better than some of the older models I’ve had. I was super surprised when I did the first full run with the vacuum running (after the mapping runs which don’t run the vacuum) that it is quieter than the previous Roombas that I’ve had before. This was a pleasant surprise because normally the worst part of any vacuum is the noise. One thing I will note is I did have to do several mapping runs for the unit to actually get my whole apartment as it missed a room the first few times. I think this may have been an issue with either lighting or a smaller hallway opening. But it did eventually get it all and now every time it runs it gets everything it mapped just fine. The mobile app for getting setup and running and controlling everything has not changed much since I originally started using it, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since the app already has a decent layout and design. Overall, this vacuum is an upgrade over my older model and it does a really good job of getting most everyplace in my small apartment without too much issue. If I had to complain about anything at all it would probably be that the only real place, I have issues with the bot is on a few rugs I have in my kitchen and bathroom. Sometimes it can vacuum those without too much issue but other times it will bunch the rug up. That being said, I have not had the new bot get “stuck” on a rug yet so that’s already an improvement from my old one. I will say after using a robot vacuum for a while I would hate to not have it around. It’s nice to not have to worry too much if I can’t find time during the week to run a normal vacuum.

Not good, needs improvement in almost every way

We were excited to get a new iRobot since we are using the quite old i860. Without a doubt the 860 cleaned well, especially picking up a lot of dust. We can clean things in our house in the morning and by afternoon there is a film of dust almost everywhere since we live close to the freeway. The problem with the i5 is that it does not pick up all of the rubbish especially the dust. After 2 weeks of cleaning, running 3x/week, the bag is nearly empty. After 2-3 days of cleaning the i860 bin is filled with dust, sometimes a layer of dust covering the dust filter. I ran several tests. One test involved stopping the i5 before its bin was emtied and sure enough not much rubbish, even less dust. Another test involved running the 860 right after a cleaning run by the i5. And I was surprised to see how much more the 860 picked up. There was a layer of dust on parts of the filter and more rubbish. This is after I had cleaned out the bin prior to the cleaning run. Regarding mapping, the i5 seems to have a difficult time creating an accurate map. Out of many times, it finally created an accurate map after a cleaning run. But according to iRobot support there is no way to keep that map and make it the primary map. Oh, almost forgot, It's a good thing that the emptying cycle is short since it is LOUD. Long story short, this is being returned.

Do not buy! Clunky and cannot stay on track. It has to slam into everything to know where it is going. It cannot make it over a simple rug. I cannot return because of bestbuys 15 day rule! Buy an Ecovac but do not buy from BestBuy because they do not stand behind their sales.
