Customers are saying

Customers admire the Roomba i6 (6150) for its impressive cleaning performance and ease of use, particularly its smart mapping capabilities. However, some users find the noise level and navigation to be less than ideal, and the dustbin's capacity is frequently cited as too small. The suction power and pet hair removal capabilities are also frequently praised.

It took this roomba 4 hours to clean 500 sqft. Once it was completed, the bin was completely empty. We ran it everyday for 2 weeks to see if there would be any difference, and there wasn't. We ended up returning the vacuum and buying a Neato. We have had Neatos in the past and they are amazing.

I was pretty excited to try a legitimate Roomba vs another brand I had originally purchased a couple of years ago. The first thing I noticed was the Roomba i6 height isn't as tall as my previous one, which meant it would probably fit under the couch. The first thing you should do is immediately let it charge for a couple of hours before downloading the app and starting the first clean job. Speaking of downloading the app, the Apple IOS store first suggests "Vacuum Robot Controller" which is obviously not made by iRobot, make sure to only download the iRobot Home app, made by The iRobot Corporation. Also important, if you have multiple wifi access points at home, make sure both the device you have downloaded the app to is on the same wifi the Roomba is connected to! That actually happened to me since I have a 5G and a non 5G access point. You need 1.5 Feet clearance from the left, right, and front of the dock, which was a little hard to find for the area of the home I wanted it to clean. However, the very cheap feeling plastic dock can easily move and since the Roomba itself is pretty aggressive when it moves around, the base stand NO CHANCE of always staying in place on hardwood floor, without securing it on the floor, or paying more for the Clean Base Automatic dirt disposal attachment, which sounds great in theory (and will also be secured to the wall) but it's *half* the retail price of the Roomba itself, and depending on how much money you have to throw around, it doesn’t feel worth it. The first run went pretty well, i had cleared out areas and cables out of those areas (as recommended), I even shook one of my indoor matts in the middle area to have more dust than normal, and it cleaned it up well. That was good, however, a little inconsistent on edges. Even though it has brushes that seem to push the dirt into the pickup path, it was just a little inconsistent in some areas. I appreciated that it was able to move over between 2 rooms that my other robot cross over one way, but cannot cross over back. Not an issue with the Roomba i6, so good on Roomba for that. However, since it started vacuuming before it was fully charged, it had to stop and return home. This is where it got super frustrating, since the dock is a really really crappy little piece of plastic, the Roomba kept pushing it out of the place I had initially set it up - causing the roomba to become lost! THE ROOMBA MOVED THE BASE AND THEN WAS CONFUSED ON WHY IT WASN'T WHERE IT THOUGHT IT WAS!!! Like i said before, if you pay extra and get the Clean Base accessory, the Roomba won't push the base around, but not everyone has that kind of money lying around to throw at a robot vacuum. After the cleaning, it’ll show you a map of the area where you cleaned, which is nice, but my previous robot maps the entire room, and then from that point, you can simply draw on “No-Go lines” to block out areas you do not want the robot to wander into. In reading the documentation, it appears you would need a “virtual wall” accessory that the Roomba will know not to pass. Again, another accessory that costs money for iRobot, which is just built into other less expensive automatic robots. Pros: Low profile to fit under couches (but not all) Robot is aggressive so if there is something in the way, it will push it forward (which is why it pushes the dock) Can go over bumps/cables fairly easy without getting stuck (unlike my other robot) Cons: Super expensive Needs attachment for virtual wall Roomba will push the dock out of the way, unless you pay for the expensive self cleaner! Very loud Battery charge error – because it won’t dock properly as it pushes the dock out of the way!!! CRAPPY DOCK Highly disappointed in regards to cost and what you get for that price, I hate the dock, I hate that it doesn’t have the ability to simply put no go lines without buying an additional attachment, I hate that a secure dock (that also cleans the Roomba) is half the price of the robot itself. It cleans pretty well, but to get all the features already included in other robots – you have to spend a lot of money! If you have cash to throw away, get a Roomba. If you are a bit thriftier with your money, get another manufacturer!

This Vacuum sucks in a most excellent way

The iRobot Roomba i6 is an excellent vacuum. If you don't want to read the rest of the review, I at least want you to know how the story ends. I have a robot vacuum from another brand that I have been happy with, but it is a couple of years old and I wanted to give the iRobot a try to see if there have been any improvements over the past couple of years. I can say that this new robot vacuum is an improvement over what I have been using. I can literally vacuum with our stick vacuums or with the older robot, then go back over the same areas with the new i6 by iRobot and it finds dust and debris that the other vacuums leave. I try to run the iRobot a couple of times a week and am constantly showing my wife all the dirt and dust that is in the canister. She is really tired of this by the way. The vacuum has just about completed learning my home, even though, with 2 dogs and 3 kids, the house changes in random ways. It is fun watching this thing maneuver around furniture, Christmas trees, dog toys and other obstacles. Up to this point, the i6 has not gotten itself stuck on anything. I can't say that for my older other brand robot. It seemed to need a hand every time it was used. The app is easy to install and allows remote access to the vacuum, battery life is a little more than 1 hour, at that time it takes itself back to the dock to recharge, then resumes its vacuuming. I have noticed that the i6 is a little taller than the older robot I have been using and there are at least 2 pieces of furniture the new vacuum can't seem to get under, but that is the only downside I have found between the two. I like both of my robots, but I rarely use the older one now that I know the new Roomba i6 does such a better job both picking up dirt and not getting stuck on obstacles. It has been a truly great vacuum so far, and easy to recommend. My robot does not have the automatic dust emptying bin, but if you can get one with that, it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

    Gets the Job done!

The iRobot Roomba i6 is a great little vacuum. It gets the job done all without you ever having to lift a finger. It came neatly packaged and upon unboxing you can really see the attention to detail and time put into making this a solid machine. Set up was straight forward. Once out of the box pick a place for the docking station and plug it in. Then download the iRobot Home app. Just a note make sure that you have 2.4Ghz connection from your Wi-Fi router. It took me a little bit to realize this bit of information. Just make sure to take your time and follow directions. Once the iRobot Roomba i6 was setup I let it do its thing and map out my home. It had no problem at all transitioning between the different floor surfaces. It's amazing how well this little vacuum works. I'm blown away by how much technology this little thing must posses. After letting this machine figure out my home, I set it up to do all its cleaning while we are out of the house either at school (kids) or work. I'm thoroughly impressed at how good a job the iRobot does. I'm a total fan of this unit, just make sure that you periodically check the catch tray and dump it as needed. I dump it once every few days just to be on the safe side. The iRobot Roomba i6 has literally taken care of a house chore that not very many people enjoy doing and it does it very, very well. I 100% recommend this vacuum. If you're on the fence about buying don't be, its money well spent.

From cat rides to DJing, iRobot’s Roomba line of robot vacuums are a household name in household cleaning automation. Nearly 20 years on from the original Roomba, the name encompasses a full catalog of robot vacuums, mops, handheld vacuums, and even STEM educational toys for children. The Roomba i6 is the latest in their i-series of home robot vacuums, offering stronger performance than their everyday 600 series for dry floor cleaning. With a more advanced navigation system and improved suction compared to prior models, the i6 leaves nothing behind…at least, from where it goes. - Unboxing, Initial Impressions The Roomba i6 6150 is packaged neatly in a recyclable box containing the vacuum, charging base, and a set of quick-start instructions. As expected with a robot smart vacuum, the iRobot app (available on both Google Play and iOS App Store) is needed for setup and operation, and acts as the device’s manual with picture guides and animations showing basic maintenance for the vacuum. An iRobot account is required, annoyingly, but the app seems to stay logged in in perpetuity making this a one-time frustration. The hardest part of the setup was finding an appropriate location for the charging station, as it requires 1.5 feet of clearance on both sides and 4 out front. This limits positioning to open areas along walls - I was hopeful I could have put the charging base neatly in the corner of my living room but now it sits out in the open. After positioning and setting up the app, the initial charge takes about an hour at which point the vacuum is ready to go. The Roomba i6 is a hefty device with large rubber tires, independent suspension, and a glossy finish that, ironically, attracts dust like none other. The swing-out dust canister is fairly large and easy to access for emptying, while the front bumper has plenty of travel so it won’t nudge furniture too aggressively. I still wouldn’t want to have this run into a table with precarious items on it, though. - Cleaning Performance Whatever iRobot has done to improve the suction performance from prior Roomba vacuums, they deserve an award. The Roomba i6’s vacuum strength is excellent, pulling an unbelievable amount of dust out of what I thought were already pretty clean, medium-pile rugs. I ran the i6 in a room with a single 8x10-foot carpet about 6 times and in every instance the dust container filled to capacity, even after using a traditional canister vacuum between the second and third runs to ensure it wasn’t my negligence giving the Roomba an unfair edge, but it continued to perform admirably on the soft surface. Naturally, performance on hardwood and laminate vinyl plank (LVP, sometimes called luxury vinyl plank) was equally strong. Dirt and dust scooped up without issue, and the Roomba’s sweeping brush did a great job running along walls to get most dust buildup outside of corners and tight spaces. While it can’t get deep into corners and the brush roller sits several inches away from each wall, the i6 does a solid enough job that if it’s run regularly there should be little need to bust out a full size vacuum to edge the rest of the space. The Roomba will perform passes similar to a lawnmowing job, working in discrete rows across the floor and navigating around obstacles only as necessary, ensuring it doubles back to get around all sides of an obstruction in a circular fashion. It will take several full passes of the space to reach a point where the Roomba makes an accurate map of the floor and improve its cleaning efficiency. One of the best features of the i6 is its ability to fully map a space in the Roomba app, which allows you to specify individual areas of the space to clean on-demand such as under a sofa or dining room table. A dry spill or small area of heavy dirt need not activate a full space cleaning to address - presets can be customized to activate the Roomba to clean them with a push of a button. Even better is the Amazon Alexa and Google Home integration, allowing you to name your Roomba and tell your preferred assistant to activate it. “Hey Google, tell Jarvis to clear the runway” is a very amusing way to clean my foyer. - Navigation & Noise Unfortunately, I did find the Roomba’s navigation is less than perfect. Not only does the device bump into furniture quite often (and though not at full speed, still somewhat aggressively), but about a third of the cleaning jobs I asked it to perform resulted in a lost or stuck Roomba that needed recovery. Cleaning the front bumper and sensors seems to help, but it would be nice to have the app notify of an obstructed sensor causing the issue rather than simply “Navigation Problem - See the App for Help” being indicated by the i6 with little more information than to return the Roomba to its base. Additionally, though the Roomba fits under sofas and tables it struggles with darker areas even when plenty of overhead clearance is available. It continually detected the space under my loveseat as an impassable area despite having run under it once or twice before. I would have liked to see a way in the app to take manual drive control or specify remapping an area to compensate for this. The Roomba makes a fair amount of noise in operation, but it’s by no means loud or obnoxious. The brush roll, vacuum, and drive motors all exhibit a familiar whirr, getting a little louder on hard surfaces and having bumps into furniture and other obstructions remain the loudest noises the Roomba makes. I was hopeful that by this generation the Roomba would bash into furniture legs less often than prior models, but outside of walls it still likes to bonk things a lot. - Emptying & Maintenance The Roomba i6 is very easy to maintain. The dust canister tray swings out easily from its base for emptying, which also brings the filter along with it, and another button press opens the canister for easy emptying without touching the dust in all but the most overfilled instances. A disposal base, sold separately, allows the vacuum to automatically empty itself so you visit the trash can less often, but I did not have this to test. The brush roller is easy to unjam as well when it runs over excessive hair. All the basic maintenance tasks are shown in the app with step-by-step instructions and animations to guide you through each function. While I personally would have preferred a physical manual in this case, the Roomba app is well laid out, intuitive, and is definitely more eco-friendly than a printed manual. I do worry whether the Roomba app will maintain support for the i6 in perpetuity, however, as the reliance on the app for operation, maintenance, and cleaning does raises my concern for obsolescence, either planned or negligent, down the road. - Bottom Line The Roomba i6 is a competent robot vacuum that will absolutely make routine cleaning easier. The suction is excellent, it gets around obstacles easily, and is a breeze to maintain, but the navigation issues make this a little less than ideal. Still, I would rather have this perform a decent cleaning job once a week than a great one once a month, and thus I’m glad to have one in my highest traffic areas of the house. It’s possible navigation can be improved through firmware updates (no new updates were available as of this writing, 30 November 2021), and so long as the Roomba app remains up to date with the i6 supported I expect this vacuum to perform well enough for years to come. Recommended!

    Great Robot Vacuum

Upgraded from the Roomba i3, which worked well but didn't do the mapping which ended up having us "prepare" the room for vacuuming instead of it being on auto-pilot like it's supposed to be. The i6 takes care of that problem by learning the floorplan and finding the best route to optimize it's cleaning. What was taking the i3 almost 2 hours is accomplished by the i6 in 45-52 minutes now that it's learned the floor. We have a golden retriever so we like to let the robot do a round once a day on the main floor to get as much hair as we can. It does a great job and it's easy to empty the bin at the end of the cycle. Setting up zones in the app is easy to tell the robot where to avoid and it has come in handy with the christmas tree and other decorations that are temporary. Overall, this is a great option if you're looking for a robot vacuum. The area it cleans daily is hardwood floors and a fairly thick area rug. It handles the transitions easily and does a great job. I recommend this to anyone.

I upgraded to this Roomba from an i3 and the ability to restrict certain rooms or parts of the house was a game changer! I also like the sleek change of the touch screen buttons and the silver finish instead of the black. My recommendation for bigger houses is to tell the Roomba to keep cleaning even when the bin is full. The sensor can be sensitive and if something gets lodged against it even when the bin is empty, it can stop the job and return to the dock. It’s also louder than I like, but quieter than a full size vacuum. The Roomba does an incredible job with dust and dirt though it needs help with stuff in tight corners. Set it to a schedule and it will keep your floors clean!
