Wes Anderson knocked another excellent story out the park. Right up there with Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom. This story has depth you may even miss in the main story the 1st watch, just being mesmerized by the work put into making this movie and being busy recognizing all the big voiceover actors! The story is amazing and Anderson's style never gets old. This will be a classic and has a permanent top shelf spot in our home movie collection. I love it, my kids love it, it's awesome.

If you're a fan of Wes Anderson's grown-up cartoon "Fantastic Mr. Fox" or any of his quirky features ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," "The Darjeeling Limited," "Moonrise Kingdom"), you probably already own this movie. There is a deadpan quality to Anderson's sense of humor that is captured vividly in the persona of Bill Murray, who is a veteran of Anderson's film canon and who is prominently featured in this gorgeous stop-motion animated tribute to the loyalty and resilience of dogs as "Boss," one of several abandoned canines living in exile on Trash Island in a dystopian Japan of the near-future (other dogs in the community are voiced by Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, and Scarlett Johansson). Plot details aren't really important here. What is? Anderson's unique ability to put an unusual spin on characters and situations to elicit both laughs and tears. Young kids will probably prefer "Paw Patrol," but that's okay. This one was made for us bigger kids.

I had no idea what this movie was about when I bought it, and this was probably one of the best movie buys I did in 2018. This movie had a serious japanime/1984 feel to it. The storyline was very good, the animation top-notch, and it really kept my attention from beginning to end. I'm not going to go into the storyline to keep from putting out any spoilers. I will just say that it was nothing like I thought it would be, and after watching it I am glad. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes stop-motion, anime, or dystopian animations.

I admit a lot of bias here. I put Rushmore in my top ten all-time favorite movies with a strong lean towards Moonrise Kingdom. Where else are you going to find supporting actors (voices) all the way from the multi-talented Harvey Keitel to Yoko Ono? You will spend time trying to identify the voices you know you have heard on film and on television only to realize that, yes, that is Fisher Stevens from the Grand Budapest Hotel voicing Scrap. I enjoy Wes Anderson's work(?) from the perspective of a deep respect for finding actors who understand the little nuances of his films and are recognizable, but not one-note reusable characters.

I loved this animated film. From the opening credits with the pulsing taiko drummers beautifully rendered to the film's furry characters, I was very impressed and captivated. As an adult watching this feature I would love to have shared this with my older (8 yrs) nephews and nieces, but I don't know if younger (5 or under) would appreciate more than the gorgeous colorful settings. I caught various layers of political and cultural current events, and I liked that there was a light hand to it. It's definitely a film to share and talk about. My only downer was the disk skipped throughout, cutting dialogue and some scenes. It took several tries to get it to play on my laptop player, and that's after I stopped trying to set the subtitles. This was the non-blu ray disk, and my laptop plays dvds well. Although this could be a deal breaker, I liked the movie so much, and got to see most of it without losing much content, that I didn't deduct a star. A well done feature that I recommend as family viewing fare.

This was such a fantastic little story, it brought a smile to my face throughout most of it. Here you get the usual cast of Wes Anderson characters, from Ed Norton to Bill Murray to Jeff Goldblum, with the nice addition of Bryan Cranston. Of course, this is an animated film, stop-motion to be exact, which works really well with Anderson's visual and narrative aesthetic. I loved the art design and adored the charming storyline which for some reason reminded me a little of Watership Down, though not in any obvious ways. You'll really enjoy yourself and come away feeling good. Check it out!

Isle of Dogs is a clever animated movie about dogs that were banished to live on a garbage waste island outside of China. The government has decided the dogs were transmitting some type of disease, so they were sent away from the humans and have to learn to fend for themselves amidst piles and piles of trash, with nothing to eat. The story is told from the dog's point of view. Each dog has a personality and a history. The dogs are finally rescued by a boy pilot who flies from the mainland, but is also pursued by the government who tries to defeat the dog rescue. The dogs go through some really crazy things before the rescue finally happens and they are welcomed back home to civilization. This movie is another artistic gem from Wes Anderson, and very creative.

Let's face it, you either get Wes Anderson or you don't. Droll little story that everybody in the family can enjoy. If you like Wes, this is for you. If you like dogs and want to see Claymation dogs, this is for you as well. If you like celebrity voices as dogs, it's for you. If you liked Fantastic Mr Fox, ditto. Anyway, highly recommended.

Gotta love anything that Wes Anderson puts out there. That's it. That's the whole review. That's all you need to know. Anything else would be a waste of our time, time better spent watching this movie. So what are you waiting for? Go watch it today! Or tomorrow. Just whenever it is convenient. No rush. Just eventually go watch it okay? You're missing out.

If you like Wes Anderson movies and haven't seen it watch it, you'll enjoy it. Word of note though: even though this is a cartoon movie with dogs it doesn't mean it's entirely suitable for young kids. There are some scenes of graphic violence. Quite a bit of the dialogue is unsubtitled Japanese that might make the film hard to follow for youngsters.

Wes Anderson is no stranger to stop motion and this is by far one of three greatest I have seen! After watching Fantastic Mr. Fox you can see how much better the stop motion animation got and he brought yet another amazing story to film that's well worth multiple watches!

I was bummed when this sold out in stores and was so glad to see it come back in stock for a short time on Best Buy's website. This steelbook has fantastic art---and of course this is one of Wes Anderson's best movies. This is a beautiful story that celebrates the powerful friendship between humans and dogs. Every dog lover should see this film.

Bought it cause it was on sale and it look interesting. Watch it in two languages and the translation was on point. The plot and dialogue was well done. Watch it with my entire family and my sister was the only on that didn't liked it, but she was mostly on her phone during the film so she miss out. The film seem very political but the characters kept it from being boring and story telling from the individual dogs was nicely done. Don't recommend it if you have a short attention span.

This was the last copy that I found at a location a little further from where I usually go. The steelbook art is beautiful and it's well worth the trek to get it. Can't find this anywhere anymore. On the other note, it's one of my favorite animated movies in the recent years. So happy to have it in my collection!

The movie is highly enjoyable. The characters are great and well developed and I enjoyed watching the young man journey with the dogs.

I was very happy that Best Buy was able to license this version. I was not excited to have to purchase this from the UK and pay three times as much. If you were patient and did not buy this on release date, pick up this version. It comes with a digital code too. One of Wes Anderson’s best! Enjoy!

Being a huge fan of We Anderson (I own all his films) this was a no brainer. Great cast with most of the regular actors he uses. Actually, it's an amazing cast of heavy hitters. There's even a small part with Yoko Ono! If you liked the Fantastic Mr. Fox, you'll probably love this one too.

So glad Best Buy is my go to for buying DVD movies plus shipping directly to my Home! Excellent Movie "Isle of Dogs"
