My laptop, and others in our household, have no ethernet port and this item made things better; it's very solidly constructed. The only negative is that it was advertised as plug-and-play, but it was necessary to get a driver from the website; I passed on other models that were not advertised as plug and play. Having mentioned that, installation of the driver was fairly straightforward.
