Summary: Good for most people. Not a jack of all trades. Great video and audio quality. Compatible with Intel devices only (no formal M1 Mac support). Unboxing: The unboxing is barebones. There is the device, USB-C or A attachments and documentation. Set up: I first tried it on my M1 Mac Mini. The device installed and worked after downloading the J5 app from the app store. I was able to see the camera, but it looked a little poor in quality. I looked at the website and saw there is no M1 Mac support with the drivers. If you have an Intel Mac, you are GTG. I then tried it on my Asus laptop via USB-C. Drivers installed instantly and the software from the website worked as expected. Software: The J5 companion app is basic. It allows for basic color/contrast/exposure correction but not much else. You can click on a camera on the left side to make it work with other apps. I would have liked some control over resolution or focus here. Use: Used as a webcam for video calls, pictures were clear and voice from the microphones were clear on the other side (tested by recording a voice sample). The device hands well from a laptop lid or on the desk if you prop it up on its stand. I really liked there is a tripod attachment on the bottom of the unit for anyone who might use such things. The unit does not just adjust up and down but also swivels left and right. What I did not like is the software isn't very smart. Focus is very hit or miss with many feeds appearing blurry. If there is lots of contrast the whites often got blown out. In most settings this was not an issue for me, but it can be for some. For travel this unit is compact enough to be carried in a bag and feels sturdy for travel. Overall a good job to J5, it could use some tweaking but is a nice camera overall.

I love this webcam. I needed something for zoom/teams meetings so I could use my large monitor and this webcam was perfect. I also wanted something I could use with my MacBook and PC laptop. The webcam was really easy to use, I just plugged it in and it was ready to go. I haven't tried the app yet but right out of the box the webcam worked well enough for what I needed it for.

Audio works well for a webcam and the video is really good. The only thing i noticed when upgrading from my older 1080p, is that you get alot more viewing of the space around me. So if using for zoom calls it does show alot of the room around you. However, i am using it for recording YouTube and it works incredibly well since there are two or more people on the frame.

j5 Create USB 4K Ultra HD Webcam This device features an eight megapixel sensor with wide angle lens that produces sharp videos. It’s compatible with Windows, macOS, and Chrome. The unit features plug-and-play functionality and provides fast, easy connectivity. It includes both USB-A and USB-C connectors for maximum flexibility in connecting to whichever USB slot you have available on your computer. That’s a nice touch. There’s an indicator light that lets you know the device’s current status. A white light tells you that the power is on while a green light lets you know that the camera is in use The built-in microphone provides high-quality audio for clear video conferencing or calls to friends. There are microphones on both sides of the unit for better pickup. The wide viewing angle lens allows several people to be seen at the same time, and, since the camera swivels a full 360 degrees, you could cover an entire group of participants, or a number of items that you want to display, by simply rotating the camera. There’s a privacy cover permanently attached to the camera. It conveniently flips up or down to open or close the viewing lens. No more lost privacy covers! That’s another nice feature. After installing the camera on my computer monitor, I scanned the QR code as instructed to get the accompanying app and got an error saying the page doesn’t exist. I then tried to find it and download it manually in the Google app store, and again had no luck; I got an error message telling me that it couldn’t be found. Not sure what features or controls I’m missing by not having the app, but I’d sure be interested in finding out. Despite not having the app, the unit worked great on test calls. It’s a keeper and has found a home on top of one of my monitors. So, if you’re in the market for a combination video camera and microphone, I think you’ll be very pleased with this j5 Create USB 4K Ultra HD Webcam. I know I am.

I should’ve know since there are no reviews. Just don’t buy anything from j5. It promised me 60fps at 1080p, it won’t even give me 60fps at ANY lower resolution. I’ve tried a capture card, installing software, and buying an addition j5 product to get it to work better and nothing. The only good thing about it is it’s ease of use. Returning this. Save your money for a real webcam if you’re trying to stream.

I have been using this webcam for a week now, and overall it is pretty nice. It was instantly recognized by my Windows PC, and was able to use it in my Teams meetings right away. This camera replaces an older HD Logitech webcam that I have been using for a few years. Compared to that one, you get a much wider viewing angle. I do like the fact that it has both USB-C and USB-A connections built in, so it is pretty future proof. The picture quality from the webcam is good but not outstanding. It is more than adequate for your work video conference calls, but I wouldn't use it for any professional videos.

The J5Create USB webcam is selling itself short by classifying it as a webcam. It's a 4K camcorder for your PC. The lens is so much bigger than any built-in webcam and the 4k resolution broadens the viewable area by 3-4 times which is great for taking video or pictures, not so good if you're video-conferencing in your boxers. At least it comes with a lens cap you could swing closed when you don't want to be seen by accident. A big plus, included with the camera and attached to the cord is a USB-A to USB-C adapter which is really great if you have a laptop that doesn't have standard ports. Though I had great results with accurate skin tone reproduction on my laptop, connected to the desktop appeared all washed out. When connecting, the computer sees it as a microphone, though it reads it as a webcam when needed. I didn't much like the mounting clip, it sat awkwardly and somewhat haphazardly on either the monitor or the laptop. Although it has a swivel joint, you have to hold it with both hands to turn it due to it's gravity held clip. When using Zoom or Skype, you can't take full advantage of the 4K resolution, HD only goes to 1080p. Using it as a camera with the camera app, the full range of it's capability is apparent including the 8.3Mp stills. The base of the clip includes a tripod mount connection because it would really work better as a camcorder. I could easily see this as part of a DJ arsenal taking video of the action while playing the tunes. I think this would work good as a whole room webcam because of it's wide angle and sensitive microphone. I wouldn't use it as a webcam for my laptop because of the size and cable. Carefully connected to my desktop over the 27" monitor would be the best way to use it.

Initial impression as I unboxed the JVU430 and installed it are pretty good: - Plugged in and almost instantly came up and worked. - Good mount with built-in screw for tripod mount. - Good range of tilt and rotate. - Dual Microphone. - Uses a USB-C Cable with an attached A adapter. Unfortunately, after that there are virtually no features or functions that stand out -- particularly give the price point it's offered at -- which means I did not find a lot of value here. Default color was horrible with a pinkish hue, and the video was grainy. I downloaded the companion app from their website and it did allow me to make it look a little bit better, but adjustment options were limited. The video looked slightly better than 1080p, but it did not look like as sharp as one would expect a 4k image would be. 60 FPS is only available on lower resolutions. I could dive into this deeper, but I don't see the need as the issue is one of value. It's not up to par for serious use, and for those who want add a camera or upgrade over their built-in camera there are other products offering similar results at a much lower suggested price. If you find one deeply discounted, it's worth a look, but otherwise I'd look elsewhere.

The software gives a decent amount of control of the field of view and color settings, but this cannot even get anywhere close to 60fps. I tried and tried to increase the quality, but it just does not live up to the branding... should have just bought a logitech.

GOOD - Has threaded base for tripod mounting - Good pivot / tilt / rotate range - Plug-n-play recognition, no special drivers needed - USB-A and -C connection BAD - Mediocre video quality - Exposure adjustment controls lacking - Very limited 60 fps recording - Bandwidth and capture modes limited by USB 2.0 bandwidth - Confusing number of resolution/framerate options TL/DR At its current price point, the JVU430 doesn't make sense. For basic users looking for a step up over an integrated webcam, it's far too expensive. For streamers or people doing serious content creation, similarly priced competitor's models have better video quality and feature sets. The best thing I can say about the j5 JVU430 is it's better than most integrated cameras found in laptops and AIO desktops. The video quality is better with less noise artifacts and the camera mount is quite nice ( has threaded mounting point and the pivot / rotate / tilt range is good ). Apart from that, there's not much to recommend it. I'm sure many consumers will be lured by the JVU430's claims of 4Kp30 video at a much lower price than other 4K webcams. But video resolution only matters if you can actually use it, and the JVU430 has two big problems there. First, capture quality is average at best with plenty of noise artifacts, artificial sharpening, and color banding. This negates the biggest benefit of hi-res video capture, being able to zoom and crop for the final output without losing much fine detail. Second, if you're mainly using it for MS Teams, Google Meet, Zoom, etc, your video will be scaled to 720 or 1080 anyway, so you'd be better served using a good 1080 camera instead of a mediocre 4K camera. For anyone looking to use the JVU430 for serious use, like content creation or streaming, I wouldn't recommend it. Apart from the "meh" video quality, it lacks a lot of features on the back end. It's limited to USB 2.0 bandwidth and is essentially MJPEG only. It does support YUV422, but only at very low resolutions / framerates ( max 800x600 @ 10 fps or 640x480 @ 30 fps ). J5 offers a companion desktop application to adjust camera exposure, but except for pan, tilt, and zoom, the controls aren't anything you don't already have in your basic desktop camera application. If you use something like OBS, you can control the exposure value, but not gain, meaning your lighting setup has to be very precise to get proper light/dark balance. The JVU430 says it's 60 fps capable, but it does it in a very weird way. Nearly all 60 fps capture resolutions are two pixels lower in vertical resolution than you would expect. For example the camera lists 1920x1080 / 30 fps and 1920x1018 / 60 fps. This continues with 1280x718, 960x538, etc. Those two missing pixel rows won't make-or-break the video, but it is confusing for the end user. In addition to common framerates like 24 NTSC, 25 PAL, 30, and 60, the camera also supports 20, 15, and 10 fps. Those lower framerates are useful for keeping security video file sizes down, but very few people have need of a USB-only security camera. The supported video modes also include a lot of less common resolutions, including quite a few low-res options like 320x240 and 640x360. Most of them are available at most of the framerate options listed above. While normally I'm a fan of lots of options, a drop-down list of 20+ resolution/framerate modes on a webcam isn't something I care about. Novice users are likely to find it intimidating or confusing to find the one mode they want. Experienced users will find it frustrating and cluttered when switching between the modes they use the most. If you want a basic webcam to improve your video conference quality, over that of an integrated webcam, plenty of options are available that will give you the same end-result video quality as the JVU430 for much money. You can also get a number of high-quality 1080 cameras for the same price as the JVU430 that give you better overall results despite the lower native resolution.
