However I have learned using this that docking stations can have limited features. Ultimately I wanted to connect my laptop back to two monitors, however this docking station, you cannot close your lap top. When using the snipping tool, it only works on one screen and only half of it at that. This docking station does do the minimal job, I just wish I knew more before purchasing it.

I have usually used the same dock as the laptop i have but was tried of the crazy amount of money the want for these simple devices. This one performs just as the expensive ones.

Works fantastic, no AC needed

Running 2 monitors, ethernet, and all usb ports filled with no issues.

It not only works better than a more expensive ones I tried but also have a multiple USB connections.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My laptop has thunderbolt 3, but thunderbolt 3 docks cost hundreds of dollars. The mini thunderbolt 3 docks come with very short cables and USB C 3.1 extension do not work with TB3. Was shocked to hear from Belkin and CalDigit that no extension cable really exist and the max the USB C extensions can handle is 10GB (TB3 is 40GB). So this led me to look for a USB 3.1 dock. The J5Create works perfectly, only 1080p 60hz, but it does that nicely and I have the drivers installed on three laptops and it works great for all of them. My 6' USB-C 3.1 extension also works great with this dock.

I also wish it had some way to include power for my laptop so you do still have to have a power supply plugged in as well

Multiple HDMI Displays

It works most of the time without any issues, but sometimes the 2nd monitor will flicker. I've resorted to plugging the 2nd monitor into a 2nd USB-C port on my laptop.

Posted .Acquiring multiple displays to work with can be complex without the right adapter. We are glad to hear the JCD381 is assisting you in obtaining more screens. Regarding the flicker, we recommend contacting support on the casing for technical assistance due to the different reasons that could be causing this. It can be as simple as a bad HDMI cable, to a defective HDMI port. In the case where the JCD381 is deemed to be defective, as long as you are within the 2 yr manufacturer's warranty period, we will be open to exchanging it for you. Thank you for the review.

A popular competitor was nicer quality, smaller, and with a finish that better matched my MacBook Pro, if that's important to you. Something to consider, many of these, this model included support 4K on an external monitor, but at only 30Hz. If you'r using a modern Mac with a Retina display, you'll notice the slower refresh rate and the external monitor won't be as smooth. There are adapters that pass 4K at 60Hz, but I'm not familiar with them, and had trouble finding this type of dock that supported that. I do mostly word processing, searching through literature, and basic spreadsheet stuff, so that wasn't a dealbreaker. If you're really into video, or games, that'll probably bug you.
