Hub works. Nothing less nothing more.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The J5 is a typical hub that does what it needs to do. I would have liked to see some more ports for it's size and weight. It big by any means nor is it too heavy, but there is a whole other side that is empty. Now that may be so that it doesnt get too crowded, but having the option is always nice. Power delivery works for a laptop, if you have a sufficient power supply to drive it. I used a 60W Anker charge and it just barely delivers juice to keep the battery from draining. If I start to run a game while plugged into the hub the battery will start to drain. I would imagine you would need at least a 100W supply. I utilize hubs for when I shuttle my laptop to and from work. I have 2 monitors and my peripherals plugged into the hub and I can just unplug one usb C cable and it works well for that purpose. At the moment I only have 1 C and 1 A port left on my laptop and the hub is loaded. The matte silver aluminum has a bead blasted unfinished feel which I do not mind, however the edge seem very sharp. I feel like it would've benefited from a nice chamfer. Aside from that and lack of a few more ports keep this product from being a 5 star item.

Good traveling partner but caution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.USB4 docks are becoming common and that's a good thing. But not all USB4 devices will provide the same peripheral support. In the case of the j5create 4K Multi-Port Hub it only has one USB Type-A port. So if you have two USB Type-A devices you may have to also use the USB Type-C port. Which might require an adapter or even another hub. The lesson here is to think about what you need to connect to when you choose your USB4 hub connection options. What you might need for the desktop compared to what you need in a travel unit does matter. The j5create 4K Multi-Port Hubs video options are good because it supports both HDMI or DisplayPort. That covers the two most important display types you might need. The USB Power Delivery at 85W should be enough to keep you charged and power most anything connected to the hub. You do have to provide the power supply. You don’t need a power supply for the hub, only when using the power delivery feature. The hub is light and the port layout should help it take less space when connected. Many hubs put their port arraignment such that once connected the wires go in all directions. But unfortunately j5create elected to use a short USB Type-C cable to your PC. The wire is stiff and short and it limits where you can place the hub. Not a very good option for travel or desktop use. In my use the hub connected right away without any drama. I was using a Lenovo notebook with USB4 ports. I have another USB4 hub that I have been using in this same price range. It has a higher power delivery of 100W and two USB Type-A ports along with a card reader. But although it has more features it's a wire mess when connected. For that one reason alone I would prefer to travel with the j5create 4K Multi-Port Hub. Think about what you need to connect to when choosing your hub. I would say the j5create 4K Multi-Port Hub is a great travel hub. But there are better choices if you're mostly going to use it as a desktop hub.

Great For Laptops That Have Limited Ports
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This hub is great for laptops with limited ports, just like my MacBook Air, which has only two USB-C ports. I was able to hook it up to two separate 4K monitors at the same time (one 32-inch Samsung, one 32-inch ASUS gaming monitor) and it worked beautifully; I tried them out utilizing this hub's HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C ports. I especially like being able to charge my iPhone and iPads at the same time as well, as the hub also has an up to 85W pass-through charging port! And I have a lot of data and pictures stored on USB-A flashdrives, which I can now access quickly with the USB-A port on this hub. Instead of having a bunch of different adapters or dongles, now I can rely on this single hub to do it all. I tried it out with my husband's Samsung laptop, my daughter's Dell laptop, my son's ASUS gaming laptop, and even with my iMac. It just plugs in and works instantly--no need to install any programs onto your laptop or computer. It is also surprisingly very light and compact for all that it does. My husband needs to carry a work laptop with him at all times, and he's expressed interest in getting another one these hubs to carry in his bag when he's traveling for work.

Portable and can support two 4K displays
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As more and more laptops have switched to including only USB-C ports, hubs like the USB4 Dual 4K Multi-Port by j5create have become essential to letting you plug in older—and in many cases new—peripherals that don’t have USB-C interfaces. This particular hub is especially useful because it supports two 4K monitors. Many hubs support only one 4K, although they tend to be cheaper. The caveat about this feature is that not every laptop is capable of outputting to multiple external monitors. In fact, the inside cover of the hub’s box has fine print warning you that not all Apple Macs with Apple silicon support dual displays. You will need to check the specifications of your particular model, though models with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips should not be a problem. You should also check to see if the included ports are the ones that will work for your needs. This one has two USB-C ports, one USB-A, one HDMI, and one Display Port. The cable that plugs into your laptop is capable of delivering 85 watts of power when a power adapter is plugged into the correct USB-C port. Note that this port does not have any kind of SD card, audio out, or ethernet ports.

Stable! Full speed! I love it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the real thing! I have been using this hub for a few days now and I'm very impressed. First things first, the hub has a genuine Intel USB4 controller, which means it should include all of the true USB4 functionality, instead of the piecemeal features that the actual USB4 standard allows for. This is the reasonably priced hub we MacBook Pro users have been waiting for. USB4 is essentially the same thing as Thunderbolt 3, so you get your full port performance and display functionality, finally truly using the capability of the Thunderbolt 3 ports without having to buy a very expensive Thunderbolt 3 dock. I have been using it with a Dell 1440p monitor via the HDMI and DisplayPort, and I get excellent performance, full 60fps and the Mac seems to be doing text and image scaling pretty well. I had a lot of issues trying to use the monitor with a Belkin Thunderbolt 2 dock, especially if I was doing other activities with the dock such as saving movie files to a drive attached to the dock-and the adapter for my Thunderbolt 3 ports to Thunderbolt 2 was not cheap. This hub gives me the "1 plug" functionality that I've been looking for, with true USB3 ports that run at 10 Mbps rather than the usual 5Mbps on most docks. The performance impact of running my Samsung T7 external SSD is minimal, even with the display connected, and I do not get any artifacts or display corruption when doing large file operations to the drive while using the 1440p display. The power pass-through is 85 watts from the Mac USBC power adapter, which is pretty high, so while I have the drive and display connected while charging the MacBook Pro, the hub does get "hot". I put that in quotes since it's not going to burn you or anything, but it does get warm, I saw a peak of 107F on the case's hottest area. The aluminum enclosure does a great job dissipating the heat. Make sure you allow room around the hub, so it does not overheat, it needs air around it for it's passive cooling. Some numbers from drive throughput testing: Diplay connected and drive connected to USB4 hub on MacBook Pro 2016 Thunderbolt 3 port - Samsung T7 SSD Write: 771 MB/s Read: 870 MB/s For comparison, Samsung T7 connected directly to Thunderbolt 3 port: Write: 840 MB/s Read: 910 MB/s The performance impact is minimal in real world use, and the convenience of having one plug for charging, 2 full speed USB 10Gb/s ports, AND a 1440p monitor is well worth it. I am delighted with this hub and it's performance, very highly recommended!

No compromise multi monitor USB C solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My company issued me an M1 MacBook Air earlier this year as my primary device and I had been struggling to find a universal dock that didn’t compromise on performance, especially when it comes to video. I have a 38” widescreen as my primary monitor and a second high performance gaming monitor I use as a console for messaging/email while I work. The graphics draw alone is enough to put the M1 through its paces, and so tried at least a few other universal docks with minimal results. Either video quality was degraded or anything else plugged in would start dropping connections quickly. Enter the J5create USB4, with promises to solve my problems and make working from home or the office easier. The device is plug and play with zero setup necessary. Everything just works, and works really well overall. It wasn’t evident to me that I needed to plug my MacBook power adapter into the universal dock (rookie mistake) which led to some sleep/wake challenges before I figured it out. I am giving 4 stars because I am experiencing more frequent drop out of my USB web camera when plugged into the universal dock. The camera has an in-use light so I know when it’s happening; it’s just not something I experience with it plugged in directly to the computer. Given how much I’m asking the dock to do, it might just be a power issue - but it’s a nagging issue none the less. Overall I’d say I’d you need a device that supports multiple monitors at high resolution via USB C, this should be your go to solution.

Read the specs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I work from home and have dual monitors so I like to have a single connector that can attach to my laptop easily. Currently I use an HDMI to USB port but find the cord gets worn in a few months and the screen will black in and out. This cord has a USB C connection with two USB C inputs, standard USB, and one HDMI. The one on the end is a weird shape and not standard HDMI. I was excited to try this and was once I tried to use it found it does not work with my monitors. This cord has to be paired with 4k capable monitors so it’s really only useful if you have that capability. I attempted to use it with my normal monitors, a sceptre and acer and the picture is horrible for both. It basically just looks extremely zoomed in and fuzzy. Even after messing with the display settings I couldn’t get it to work. It is a nice size and convenient if you need a port hub, but be sure to read the specs of this product before you jump the gun and buy this. If you do have the right capabilities, it’s a nice hub as it has multiple ports and reduces tons of cords being connected to your laptop.

Works perfectly!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This multi-port hub has been super helpful so far and really should be an addition to everyone’s laptop/tech bag. I use my work laptop with two monitors at work, and I bring my work laptop home at least once a week and connecting it to my 3 monitor desktop setup at home has been extremely easy with this hub, it has been just as it claims, plug and play. I have yet to have any glitching, flickering, or quality issues even when big programs are opened, so I have been very impressed so far. I have used several different hubs over the years for work, and have had issues with some pretty expensive and high end options, and the fact that this much more economical option does not do that is great. The fact you can plug the laptop charger into it is also a huge plus. This would be a great accessory for the many modern laptops out there that have limited ports, or for someone who has a lot of desk clutter of wires and adapters, etc. I am impressed with how lightweight this hub is, it feels nearly hollow so it is a no brainer to add to the laptop, backpack, or tech bag. I highly recommend this j5create multi-port hub!

Good for Thunderbolt or USB4 *check sys specs*!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First I will start with the BIG caveat. You NEED to have thunderbolt3/4 or USB4 for this to work correctly. I tested it with a charging capable USB 3.2 Gen2 w/Displayport and it does not work!*This is nothing against the product itself!* Just be an informed consumer and double check your ports! If you use it as its marketed, it works really well! I was able to run a 4k display off either the HDMI or Displayport. I tested it with my TV and it ran correctly at 60hz. Remember that if your device uses/comes with a 90-100w USB-C charger, it will charge a bit slower when this is connected, since it can only pass up to 85w through to your device. Docks can introduce a tiny bit of peak throughput overhead, so I did a disk mark test with an external NVME drive, peak speeds were only about 5-10% slower speeds than when the drive is connected directly to the same port. (all the other speeds, 4k and others, were virtually identical.) I would recommend this to anyone with a slim ultrabook/Mac air since they're usually the ones that would have compatible thunderbolt or USB4 ports!

Good multi-port hub, but not what I was hoping for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have any portable/mobile device (laptops, tablets, etc.), having a multi-port hub is extremely useful. I have quite a few for all our devices, with some lower-end USB-C hubs for our boys' school Chromebooks and my tablet that has a single HDMI and USB-A port (but does have power passthrough, which is critical for their Chromebooks). And I use a Thunderbolt 3 with dual HDMI and LAN for my work laptop, but that runs very hot all the time. I was still looking for a possible replacement for that, or least a better multi-port hub for my personal laptop. With the J5create USB4 Dual 4K Multi-Port Hub, I was intrigued that this worked with Thunderbolt and just USB-C (since my personal laptop doesn't have Thunderbolt) and the fact that it had a DP/USB4 USB-C port in addition to the USB-C Power in port. While it doesn't have LAN port, I decided to give this a try. The physical design has my feelings mixed. It looks really nice and isn't too big. The pigtail USB-C connection cable is the right length. But the narrower end edges are a little sharper than they should be. The rest is fine. It has the full-sized DisplayPort on the end, HDMI, USB-A (USB3), DP/USB4 USB-C port in and USB-C Power in port on the edge. On the other edge, it looks like there are airflow vents to try to keep it cooler. Trying it out, I ran into issues pretty much right away. While it was able to get the Dual monitors working, on both of my laptops (PCs), it had issues with the Display Port when connecting to my QuadHD (2560x1440) monitor. Not sure why, but it wouldn't allow more than FHD (1920x1080) resolution. Not sure if it was the cable I was using or not. Connecting to it using HDMI (and DisplayPort to my FHD monitor) worked fine at QHD resolution. Also, I couldn't get it to work with a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (which is quite older, so may eventually try a newer one) that I would need to use since all my DisplayPort connections on my monitors are used by my gaming system. Also, even though I had lower expectations on it working, I could not plug in my additional USB(A) to HDMI display adapter and have it work (goal was to have everything plugged into that hub to be able to connect to all three of my monitors). One thing that was successful was connecting at the correct resolution to one of our 4K TVs. So, after working with the laptops, I decided to try It out with some of my other devices. So far, it does work fine with any device with a USB-C port, with some limitations on certain devices. On my tablet and my wife's Chromebook, it will connect using either the HDMI or DisplayPort, but only one at a time. And only when a USB Charger was plugged in to the Power in USB-C port. So, while I am disappointed that I will not be able to use this hub for my original intent, it will still be useful with my personal laptop and my other devices.

Great USB Multi-Port Hub!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This USB Dual 4K Multi-Port Hub is the solution to so many of my problems. Especially since my laptops only have USB-C connections and they don't have a USB 2.0 connections it has caused me many headaches when I'm attempting to use items such as thumb drives to show clients their photos, and that is just one example of an issue I have come across. Overall this Multi-Port Hub is perfect, the cord is long and very durable (Dogs chewed on it and it still worked), the Hub itself is extremely durable (It was chewed on as well and put through dirt and gravel). I can't say enough great things about this hub, The HDMI port is a great addition and makes this Multi-Port Hub that much more useful. I have not had a problem with this Multi-Port hub as of yet. So far everything I have come across this has performed as well, or better than expected. I am very happy with this Multi-Port hub and I am now looking at purchasing another one for my Macs as I use this one on my Windows Lap Top. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

Great for adding 4K Display(s) and USB Ports
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking to multiply your USB-C port and add a 4K display or two, this device works as-advertised when I tested it on a MacBook Air. On plugging this device into my MacBook, the first thing the happened is I was asked for permission for this device to connect. When I connected a 4K display via the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port, the display on the MacBook switched to 4K (which makes text look tiny on a 13" screen) as it mirrored the now connected 4K display. If I then went into system display settings, I could switch it from mirroring to extended desktop (which resumed the normal screen resolution for the MacBook display), and it seemed I could pick either display as the primary display. Aside from the HDMI port there is also a Display Port connector available, which you'd tend to connect with some computer monitors rather than televisions for example. I tried out the USB Ports it addede (external mouse/keyboard/webcam/microphone) and they seemed to work as expected.

A must have for portable laptops
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As computers become more compact, manufactures cut back on ports and other devices to pack as much as possible into a small form factor. This often makes additional port hubs a necessity in order to drive external monitors, drives, audio devices and even cameras. The most common new USB devices are USB-C, as it is the most powerful and versatile port available. This J5create Dual port makes it possible to drive multiple monitors at a very high resolution, along with additional USB ports, enabling the use of additional devices. The ports available for monitors include HDMI and DP connectivity for 4K displays. I am using it with a 4K large television and the display is very good. Another important addition to this hub is the power USB-C port, enabling charging if you use the one and only USB-C port on your laptop. The standard USB port is also high speed, enabling the use of devices that can take advantage of the newer ports. The device is fast, efficient and compact, making it easy to pack into a laptop bag for traveling. The case is metal making it very durable. This is a great device for expanding your laptop.

Good companion for 2 monitor setup but has limits
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At 3.8 oz and 5"(L)x2"(W)x0.5"(H) it's lightweight and compact enough for a laptop on the go in need of a multi-monitor setup. Just be aware that you will need either a USB 4 port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, OR a Thunderbolt 3 port in order for this hub to work. There are vents behind each port, and the casing itself appears to be made of aluminum, which is great because if you push the hub to its limits (e.g. transferring large amounts of data over a long period of time) it will get warm. I can't tell if there are heatsinks inside but it never got too hot to touch during my testing. Just be aware that the hub will generate heat with use. ***If you are using it on a desktop PC, review your motherboard's Thunderbolt 4 capabilities: you MAY need to use a Displayport cable to connect the DisplayPort in to your graphics card's DisplayPort out in order to drive a display from the port. I was able to drive one 4k monitor at 60Hz using the hub just fine with no lag or any other issues. I was also able to drive a 1080p HDMI monitor at 60Hz. I wasn't able to drive 2 monitors (one monitor connect to DP, another connected to HDMI) at once using the hub though despite using a Thunderbolt 4 port and additional power by connecting the hub's "Power In" port to my second Thunderbolt 4 port with a power delivery capable USB cable. And that's why I'm taking away 2 stars. As a USB data hub, you'll find a USB 3.2 10Gbps Type A connector port, and a USB 4 Type C connector port which is capped at 10Gbps. So you will NOT get full USB 4 speeds (40Gbps) with this hub. It seems like it was designed to be a display hub first and foremost. If you're aware of its limits, j5create's USB4 hub is a good companion for your multi-monitor needs, particularly on the go. However, my inability to drive 2 monitors at once left much to be desired, and with USB4's large bandwidth capabilities, I'm sure there are other hubs that can or will be able to do this. And while the 10Gbps cap for the data ports is fine for now, I question its ability of being future-proof as the USB4 standard begins to become the mainstream norm.

Quality unit that does what it is supposed to do.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works as advertised. I used this to replace a lower cost hub and the results seemed to be more stable and quicker. I used this in a Windows 11 environment and it handled two monitors without any issues; the hub that it replaced only had 1 hdmi output so it was nice to be able to close the lid on the laptop and to use two side by side 24 inch monitors. I also used this with a usb-c external drive and a usb 3 one to test the connections and both worked just as it should. The construction of this unit is impressive and should bode well for long-term durability and it was considerably more robust in construction than the lower priced unit that had lasted several years. There is an impression of quality in the construction of this unit. What I wish this had was a wired network connection as the laptop does not have one though the wireless it does have is still performing well though just not as quick as my wired would be. But that is not the fault of this particular hub. I would recommend this as a way to expand a usb-c (or 4) connection into a multiple one.
