A decent choice among mid-range wireless earbuds!

TLDR: To start off this review, I just want to begin with the honest qualifier that in a vacuum where these earbuds are the only available wireless earbuds available, the Jabra Elite 5 earbuds are excellent. However, in an abundant market of excellent earbuds made by a wide variety of manufacturers, these Jabra Elite 5 earbuds are absolutely average wireless earbuds in almost every metric that comes to mind. The price: average. The build quality: average. Noise canceling: average. Audio quality: Average. Altogether, just some very average and generally unoffensive, yet uninspired earbuds in the market in 2024.
Unboxing and set up was not the best experience I have had with a set of earbuds in any recent reviews. The earbuds were packed up nicely in sustainable, earth friendly packing materials. Setting up the headphones was actually rather a bother. When I first pulled the earbuds out of their case, I was annoyed to find a feature some manufactures implement of placing a plastic protection film over the earbuds that prevents them from making contact with the charging contacts in the case. As such, I had to peel these off and charge the earbuds before I even got to get my review started. Admittedly, the charging was quick, but then I came to my next nuisance of having annoyances with getting it paired to my iPhone. I have reviewed over half a dozen types of higher end wireless earbuds in the last year or two. In that time, I have found most earbuds to be highly intuitive to connect to my phone. These ones were not. After a few stubborn attempts, I finally capitulated and followed the instructions to download the Jabra Sound+ app.
Once I had the app installed and running, I was able to follow the instructions and get the earbuds connected to my phone. The app is actually decent. It is very straightforward to navigate and has some good offerings in the way of customizing these earbuds to suit your preferences, including the audio balance in the form of the “Music Presets” widget. I am generally a neutral or balanced audio guy, but I found that these earbuds sounded just a little bland on a neutral balance. The “Energize” music preset is the selection you want if you want to get a bit more out of these earbuds in the way of music audio quality. As soon as I did that, I began to enjoy an audio experience in all genres of music from rock to dubstep to country music that was far more dynamic and silken honey to the ears. The Sound of Silence sang by Disturbed’s David Draiman is represented beautifully by these earbuds. Breathe Again by Pop Evil kicks your teeth in at the drop at the 54 second mark in the song (which is why I love using that song for audio testing). Without Me by Eminem is awesome in these earbuds with the Energize music preset. Altogether, a great audio experience once adjustments in EQ were made via the presets!
A cool feature that these Jabra Elite 5 earbuds boast via the Sound+ app is the ability to customize the strength of the Active Noise Canceling feature. This is a nice alternative to some earbuds that are all or nothing with their noise canceling. This means you could turn up the strength to max in a situation like a plane or bus commute or turn it down in a relatively quieter but chatty café. The maximum strength noise canceling is about equal in most respects to my old first gen Airpods Pro earbuds which is actually a major compliment as those were some of the best ANC earbuds in the business when they came out. The newest generation Airpods Pro are far better at noise canceling, however. The passthrough or “HearThrough” setting could probably use a firmware update. The microphone array on the earbuds just isn’t bringing enough audio through even on full strength and your own voice is muffled and your ears still sound plugged. Definitely needs an adjustment which I am certain can be accomplished over the air via a firmware update.
Now, for some general housekeeping and observations to wrap up the review. The case is no larger than an Apple Airpods Pro case (fitted in a dbrand protective case). That is good as I already think that size case approaches the “too large for tight jeans” realm and therefore that is win for Jabra. The case itself is fine, bringing the total hours of use on the earbuds with charges to 28 hours and offering wireless and USB-C charging capability; perfectly suited to 2024 standards. The only flaws I want to point out is that the hinge of the lid is a little flexy and the lid itself is very thin when compared to other cases like the Airpods Pro case. This may present a concern for longevity if you are abusive to your earbuds case.
The build quality of everything else including the earbuds themselves feels amazing. I love the tactile and perfectly tuned click of the Jabra Elite 5 buttons on each earbud. I can press them with relative ease and force without feeling like I am having to shove the earbud into my ear canal.
Altogether, I feel that Jabra has added yet another decent, worthy of purchase earbud entry into their huge and convoluted inventory of options over the years. It is cool to see that this Danish company is keeping up with the advancement of wireless earbud technology and they are doing their part to keep up with the market movements with their lineup of products. Definitely consider these earbuds if you are not wanting to direct your dollars towards one of the bigger market shareholders and DEFINITELY consider these if they go on sale, they would be an amazing bargain at any price lower than listed retail!
Thanks for reading and I hope this review has helped!

I recently had the pleasure of trying out the new Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless Hybrid Active Noise Canceling In-ear Headphones - Titanium Black, and I must say, I'm genuinely impressed.
Right out of the box, the Elite 5’s caught my attention was the size of the charging case. Way too often other companies make their case a tad bulky, which is not always ideal for just throwing them in your pocket, so kudos to Jabra for making a slim carrying case. The earbuds are lightweight and ergonomically designed, ensuring a comfortable fit even during extended wear. With multiple ear tip sizes included, finding the perfect fit was super easy for me, and I never felt any discomfort for prolonged use. I do recommend testing several ear tips, so you can get that perfect fit and seal for taking advantage of the ANC. The stock ear tips were too small for my ears, which caused background sound to bleed in and ANC didn't sound great, but when I put on the bigger ear tips the seal was much better and did not experience any sound bleed.
When it comes to sound quality, the Jabra Elite 5 truly delivers. The audio is clear, balanced, and detailed, offering an immersive listening experience across various genres of music. The bass isn't the best but you will never really get strong punchy Bass with earbuds, and the mids and highs are well-defined, creating a good sound profile. One of the standout features of these earbuds is the ANC (active noise cancellation) technology. It basically minimizes and blocks out background noise, allowing you to enjoy your music, podcasts, videos or calls without distractions. This feature is a must have and in my opinion you shouldn't buy earbuds that don't have ANC. The best way to truly take advantage of ANC is when flying and having the ability to block out all the background noise on a plane. It also comes with in ear detection where if you take the earbud out, it will pause whatever you are listening to. And it allows you to listen with just one earbud in, which is nice for an office environment.
Battery life is another aspect where the Elite 5 excels. The earbuds offer up to 7 hours of playback on a single charge, and the charging case provides an additional 24 hours, ensuring that you will not run out of juice when you’re on the go. Quick charging support is also a welcome addition, allowing for rapid charging when needed, along with wireless charging. In terms of connectivity, the earbuds utilize Bluetooth 5.2 technology, providing a stable and seamless connection with my devices. Pairing was straightforward and hassle-free, and I haven't encountered any dropouts or connectivity issues during my usage.
Pairing is super easy, just download the The Jabra Sound+ app from your app store and follow the step-by-step guide to pair them to your smart device. With in the app you can further enhance the listening experience with the wide range of customization options and features. From adjusting the EQ settings to activating the HearThrough mode, which lets you hear ambient sounds without removing the earbuds. The app provides added flexibility and control over your listening experience.
However, the Jabra Elite 5 is not without its minor drawbacks. The physical touch buttons on the earbuds can be a little cumbersome because you are having to click a button which pushes the earbuds into your ear a little bit, causing you to have to readjust the earbud in your ear. Then there's no way to control volume straight from the earbuds, where a touch sensitive swipe up or down on the earbud would have been a nice addition, but I realize for the size and the price point of these earbuds it might have been hard to implement.
Overall, the Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless Hybrid Active Noise Canceling In-ear Headphones offer fantastic value for money. With their impressive sound quality, active noise cancellation, long battery life, and user-friendly features, they have quickly become my go-to daily drivers for my audio entertainment and communication. If you're on a budget you can’t go wrong in picking up these earbuds.

I’m an Android user, specifically rocking a Pixel 7a. I assume most people with iPhones are using AirPods, but either way, my comments are specifically tailored towards Android. I’ll also add that I had the Pixel Buds Series A which I loved, but when one of the ear buds died I upgraded to the Pixel Buds Pro; and while those sound great, I struggle with oddities and fit. The Elite 5 are my new go to, surpassing the Pixel Buds Pro on what matters most (to me) with earbuds, fit and not falling out.
IN THE BOX
You’ll get the charging case with earbuds in them, a short USB-C cable for charging, and small, medium and large “eargel” covers. Despite being 6’4” I typically find most medium sized eartips work best for me, and the Jabra Elite 5 are no exception.
DESIGN
In some respects, the earbud and charging case is pretty bland. But let’s be real, most earbuds look the same. Mine are black, although I kind of wish I got the white. The case itself is sleek and light. The lid, like most charging cases, is magnetic and opens up with minimal pressure and has a satisfying click sound when closing it. The case almost seems too light, but it has a relatively small profile that can easily fit in your pocket. In terms of physical size of the earbuds, they seem to be about the same size as most earbuds I’ve seen and used. They’re light and fit snugly in my ears. What Jabra did get rid of, which I’m a fan of, is the touch sensor buttons. The buttons on each ear bud “click” in which I prefer for earbuds. To me, touch buttons on such small devices are finicky.
The controls are similar to other earbuds, whereby pushing the button on the right side pauses music/podcasts, 2 pushes advances to the next song and 3 goes back. Holding the button in increases the volume, holding the button in on the left earbud decreases volume. On the left earbud, one click turns on and off the noise canceling and activates hearthrough. If you’ve used earbuds and controlled your music/calls in the past, it will be familiar, if you haven’t, the buttons will become second nature quickly.
SOUND QUALITY
The Elite 5 touts some big musical chops with multiple audio codecs to deliver high quality sound for its 6 MM speakers. For those non geeks (I’m a geek, but I do get lost on codecs and speaker drivers etc.) I can tell you they sound great. Especially taking into account the active noise cancellation (which I’ll get to in a moment). The noise cancellation really puts the focus on the audio, and coupled with whatever magic they put in these tiny speakers, the bass is tight, and music/podcasts really clear. For the most part, they match my Pixel Buds Pro in terms of sound quality. I won’t debate anyone on the merits because they’re might be differences, but honestly, I can’t tell much difference between the two. They both sound great. That includes all types of audio sources, classical music, rap, rock, podcasts, whatever. I was impressed with the sound. Not to mention the easy adjustment of the EQ settings in the Jabra+ app…
FEATURES/SETUP/FIT
Before jumping into the Jabra+ app, these earbuds have something called Google Fast Pair. That was not my experience. Don’t get me wrong, I got them paired and once I did they work flawlessly, but I wasn’t able to connect the earbuds to my phone until I downloaded the app. Once I did that, for whatever reason, my phone was able to connect to them (before downloading the app, I kept getting errors). The app luckily didn’t have any firmware updates - which is normal nowadays - and I would think the only reason you would use it is to adjust the EQ settings. There are several presets to choose from or you can manually adjust it. I typically go with bass boost but it’s all personal preference. It’s easy to do within the app.
The noise canceling, as I said, is great. I can type away in my office when I’m focusing and get locked in not hearing anything around me (except maybe faint clicking from my mechanical keyboard which doesn’t bother me). When I called the elevator in my office, I couldn’t hear it coming or the door opening. Outside in a crowded area you might hear the slightest bit of noise, but for the most part it does a great job.
The hear through function is hit and miss for me. Like my Pixel Buds Pro, the idea is, if it detects your talking it will automatically pause until you’re done talking, preventing you from having to pause your sound manually. When running even, sometimes a heavy breath can activate it. It’s not enough for me to disable it, but it doesn’t work each and every time. But that’s only a small annoyance.
The battery life is great. I wore them almost an entire workday and they lasted. They charge quickly in the case, and I was able to use them for the better part of 3 days without having to recharge the case (other than my initial charge). You’re likely to want to pull them out of your ears before the battery dies.
Last, and what’s most important to me with earbuds, is fit. Not just fit for sitting around or riding in a plane/train, but exercise. My Pixel Buds Pro tend to come out of my ears when sweating and running. These fit nicely in my ear, and at first, I was concerned it wasn’t a snug enough fit, but I went running and they didn’t budge a bit. Bottomline, they are extremely comfortable. And to that end, they are water resistant. I’m hoping they’ll hold up over time, but I don’t anticipate them getting damaged while sweating during a workout.
CONCLUSION
These are a solid pair of headphones. Don’t sleep on them. When taking the price into account, along with the comfort level and audio quality, they should be on everyone’s list who’s looking to upgrade their headphones.

The Jabra Elite 5 earbuds in titanium black carry a sleek and clean design. It offers a Qi-enabled wireless charging case that closes magnetically and secures the buds inside.
These earbuds are a strong competitor compared to similar earbuds on the market, considering the quality and premium features offered. Its elegant and compact design makes it easy to carry in pockets or backpacks. With an IP55 rating, they withstand dust, sweat, and water splashes. These earbuds are top-notch, providing a premium quality feel.
Comfort is outstanding, surpassing many other earbuds I've tried. The snug fit keeps them securely in place without any discomfort or risk of falling out, even when using and pressing the multifunctional button. Pairing is a breeze, taking just a minute to set up, and Bluetooth 5.2 allows for reliable connections to two devices simultaneously.
While the Jabra app enables customization of controls, it lacks volume control, a feature I hope to see in future updates. Nevertheless, the active noise cancellation (ANC) is impressive, with a quick switch to HearThrough mode for awareness of surroundings. The sound quality is excellent, and the microphone delivers clear voice quality during calls.
Integration with voice assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google enhances usability, and a dedicated Spotify button offers quick access. Alexa is built-in, which means it is always on but one voice assistant can be set. Wear detection pauses music when removing the buds, but putting them back does not resume playback. Media and phone call controls can be customized through the app except the volume so I hope volume control ability can be added by Jabra’s future firmware.
The Jabra Elite 5 has EQ options for sound customization, but the default settings suited my preferences well. Overall, these earbuds have become my favorite, offering comfort, connectivity, superb sound quality, reliable noise cancellation, and long battery life for extended use during work or leisure activities. The sound and comfort make them my daily use from now on.

The Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless earbuds are some of the most comfortable earbuds I have tried on. While they may not have the best sound or features that are available on the market, the Jabra Elite 5 has some neat features that give them an edge over similar competitors in this price range. This is my review of the Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless earbuds.
*TLDR at the bottom
==========
IN THE BOX/FIRST IMPRESSIONS/COMFORT:
Inside the box, you get the Jabra Elite 5 earbuds with a solid matte color case, extra ear tips, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and some documentation.
The case is on the smaller end and should fit inside most pockets. Although, I would’ve liked some sort of grip (maybe grooves) on the outside of the case as it tends to be slick. On the inside of the case, it feels like it is made with some type of rubber which feels nice. The earbuds feel solid all around. Both earbuds have buttons on the side for media controls.
In terms of comfort, these are seriously up there with some of the more premium earbuds I have used. I have used these at work, home, and in the gym and have never once experienced discomfort. Even when pressing the media buttons on the side, it doesn’t feel like you're forcing them into your ears.
==========
SOUND QUALITY
Outside the box, the sound is good. These do not have the best sound all around, but the sound is worthy enough to satisfy most people’s ears. When it comes to music, lows are lacking, mids are good, and highs tend to be louder. Jabra’s Sound + app does offer some EQ settings and after playing around with them for some time, it did slightly increase sound quality. Movies and podcasts sound good overall.
When it comes to calls, they sound great. Calls are clear and I did not run into any issues while on them. I did not have someone ask me to repeat myself on any of the calls I was on, which is a great sign that the microphone on these works perfectly.
==========
FEATURES
The Jabra Elite 5 has some neat features that can enhance your audio experience. These have Active Noise Cancelling which does tune out a good portion of outside sound, but they do lack the level of ANC that some other competitors have. At work when I use these mostly, some sound (e.g. keyboard) still manages to get through even with ANC on the highest level. Transparency mode or what Jabra calls HearThrough mode works okay. One should be able to hold a conversation in HearThrough mode and hear most things but there certainly can be improvements that can be made.
One area these do well in is battery life. I have charged these once since I received them a couple of days ago. The case provides an additional 21 hours which by the way, does have wireless and fast charging.
Do you need to be connected to multiple devices? Well, here is the good news, these support multipoint connections with up to 2 devices at one time. One hiccup I did find is that the pairing feature is slightly slower than some others I have used while using the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Jabra offers the Sound + app which I highly recommend. The app allows one to play around with some features that enhance the media you are listening to, change sound modes, install firmware updates, customize controls, and more. There is an option to even play some background white noise like rain, a ventilation fan, ocean waves, and a waterfall. I especially love this feature since I usually have chill music, or some white noise playing in the background while working.
==========
POTENTIAL IMPROVEMENTS:
These are a solid pair of earbuds with plenty of premium features, but the following is a list of some potential improvements that can be made to make these an excellent pair of earbuds:
- The media button controls are fine but replacing these with haptic feedback controls will certainly elevate the user experience as it makes it easier to use especially when both hands are full, and you only have your shoulders to pause your music for example
- ANC can be improved as well, at work I can still hear the sound of my keyboard which is not the case with other brands of headphones I have used before
- Sound can be more balanced, especially the lows and highs
- The case can be improved too, I already mentioned how slick it is, but I also think that the case can benefit from a button that lets you know the case’s battery life
==========
CONCLUSION/TLDR:
Overall, these are a solid pair of earbuds. The sound is good but not great outside the box. The sound can slightly be improved with the EQ settings within Jabra’s Sound + app. Calls sound amazing and comfort is on par with some of the more premium earbuds. Battery life is also one of the strengths of the Jabra Elite 5’s. If you are searching for a good pair of earbuds that aren’t too expensive, have decent ANC, and are comfortable, I highly recommend you give these a shot!

Solid All Arounder. Micr Quality Surprised Me
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Unfortunately, there was nothing about these guys that blew me away. But I think if you are looking for a solid mid-tier earbuds these are a solid pick. As the saying goes, these are a jack of all trades, but master of none. With the exception of maybe the microphone quality.
BUILD QUALITY/COMFORT:
Is solid. Earbuds are rather small. But other Jabra’s are smaller. The case is rather large. But is skinny. Making it easy to fit in a pocket. The earbuds themselves are comfortable. Comes with small, medium, large gel tips. Which are very soft. IP55 rating. Earbuds fit in magnetically. Won’t come out easily even with the lid open. But are easy to grab when you do open the case. Along with easy to put away. Opening/closing the latch is satisfying. It also, is magnetic. Overall, no complaints here. Solid across the board.
ANC/HEARTHROUGH:
I would say is slightly about average. They says they have Hybrid ANC. Which I took to be like Apple’s Adaptive ANC. Which I don’t think it is, or if it is, is not nearly at the same level. Same with the transparency mode. Which I thought did an above average job as well. Where I can easily hear what others are saying. But my own voice comes out like I have earbuds in. Found they reduced the noise but I still could usually hear what was going on around me.
SOUND QUALITY:
Again, I felt these did a solid job in this category. Music sounded good. It is treble focused, with alright mids, and bass is a bit anemic but present. To the point they do sound fatiguing. They do offer EQ, but I found adjusting the EQ to not do a whole lot to the overall sound. I was able to differentiate the different aspects of songs (such as singers and instruments) but found myself zoning out more than enjoying the music which then made me mostly just hear the main lead singer and musical notes. Voices for audiobooks and videos sounded great. I noticed a very slight amount of latency if I was being very picky and looking for it. But otherwise wouldn’t. And tend to be quite sensitive to that anyways.
MICROPHONE QUALITY:
This I was impressed with and would say is the best feature. My voice came through very clear. With good timbre and bass. Where I’d be happy to listen to someone talking on this. However, it does better in a quiet environment. If you are in a loud environment all of that still comes through. But it does a good job at quickly reducing that sound, to keep your voice front and center. But you can still hear everything else going on but it isn’t overbearing as the speaker is still easily heard. Of the plethora of wireless earbuds I’ve tried. Including the Apple Airpods Pro 2 these were a good deal better. Where I would actually recommend them for phone call use. But again, if you have a lot of background that still comes through and is not silent.
CONTROLS:
I think are solid. Right earbud is play/pause with single tap, skip song with double tap, go back with triple tap. Left earbud single tap is ANC/hearthrough, double tap is voice assistant. Single press either during a call to answer, or double press to reject. Last, during a call single press mutes/unmutes and double press ends the call. When you remove an earbud the music or whatever it is your listening to is supposed to pause and then resume when you put it back in your ear. I found this worked like 50% of the time for me.
BATTERY LIFE:
Seems solid. I’ve only had them for about a week. And the case is down to 30% charge. That’s with wearing them to and from work along with during 60 – 120 minute workouts. So a lot of use. They quick charge an hour of playback in 10 minutes. Which I used when I first got them and felt like that was a bit modest of them and I got more playback from them. Also, easy to charge. Supports Qi along with USB-C. Light on the front will say red for low charge, yellow for moderate, and green for full. Earbuds themselves last a long time. Could probably wear them for about 5 – 6 hours before they would die. Depending on ANC, hearthrough, and volume.
OTHER:
They connect quickly to my devices. Also, can be connected to two devices at a time.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, these are a solid pair of wireless earbuds. I don’t have any real complaints. But don’t have any real kudos either. Outside of the microphone quality. Jabra continues to impress me with just solid all-around earbuds for a good price. But aren’t busting down doors making them a must have.

COMFORT AND PERFORMANCE

The Jabra Elite 5 are a pair of solid wireless earbuds that offer a lot of bang for the buck. While some of the features may not be groundbreaking, they certainly hold their own for the price point. So, let’s go over some of the features and see what these earbuds have to offer.
Unboxing and Setup:
In the box you will find the following items:
• Charging case + Earbuds
• USB -to- USB-C charging cable
• 4 – Replacement Ear tips
The earbuds were easy to set up. My phone was able to pick the once I removed the protective stickers from the charging ports on the buds and placed them back in the charging case. You can set up the buds from your phone’s menu, but to take full advantage of Jabra Elite 5 you can download the Jabra Sound+ application. Using the application, you can personalize these earbuds to your liking. You can perform software updates, personalize ANC and sound modes, choose your equalizer preset, and setup the buttons options.
Hybrid ANC:
The Jabra Elite 5 feature hybrid ANC, which combines both feed-forward and feedback technologies to effectively block out unwanted noise, meaning the external microphones capture ambient noise, while the internal microphones capture the sound that reaches the ear and can cancel out unwanted noise. The combined approach allows Jabra 5 Elite to cancel out a wide range of ambient noise. I used these bud on my morning commute to work and they performed incredibly well. Even at home while writing this review, I had my ear buds in and had some music playing with the ANC turned on and I could not hear my wife calling me over to help her out, almost got me in trouble good.
Comfort and Fit:
The Elite 5 are designed to be comfortable for extended wear. They are small and lightweight, and they come with a variety of ear tips in different sizes to allow for that perfect fit. A snug fit will create a good seal in your ear canal, which helps to isolate you from outside noise and prevent sound leakage from the earbuds themselves. This is essential for getting the most out of the Elite 5's noise-canceling features and enjoying your audio content without any outside distractions.
Exceptional Sound Quality:
Keeping the price point in mind, the Elite 5 offers exceptional sound quality. Whether you’re listening to music, podcasts, or taking calls, the audio experience is satisfying. With support for SBC, AAC, and aptX Bluetooth codecs, you’ll enjoy clear and balanced sound and with the Jabra Sound+ you will be able to add your own personal touch to your choice of music Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Smooth and even Energize with high bass, low mids and high treble. Along with your music, Jabra is known for its excellent microphone technology. With 6 microphones built-in, the call quality was exceptional.
Mediocre Battery Life:
The battery life on these buds is average, you will get about 7 hours of usage on a single charge with the ANC turned on and the charging case offers an additional 21 hours of charging. The case does offer wireless charging and you also can get an hour of usage from 10 minutes of charging.
Multipoint Connection:
This is a great option to have with Jabra Elite 5. This technology allows you to connect your earbuds to multiple devices so you can switch devices without having to swap out your earbuds. I have personally tested these out on my android and IOS phone and it worked flawlessly.

TOTL performance from Jabra’s mid-tier offering!

Jabra continues its streak of consistently upping the ante on audio performance and capabilities with each new generation of their wireless buds. Starting back in 2018 with Jabra’s highly regarded Elite Active 65T (which still sound great and hold a strong charge, BTW!), I have moved up through the ranks through Jabra’s earlier industrial-looking offerings like the superior-sounding and ANC-upgradeable Elite Active 75T, to the more recent technology packed underneath the curvy smooth outlines of the Elite 3 and the flagship Elite 10. Now I’ve had the opportunity to audition the Elite 5s--a set of buds near the middle of Jabra’s current Elite lineup--and the results are frankly VERY impressive. These buds easily trade blows with the higher/pricier end of Jabra’s lineup and even come out on top in a few areas:
- The Elite 5’s stellar 6mm drivers are the same size as all of Jabra’s current Elite buds, save for the Elite 10s, which offer a slightly beefier 10mm driver.
- The Elite 5s are also the first model in the Elite line to offer a 6-microphone array for handling voice calls, hear-through, and ANC functions, but this same design/capability is carried up all the way to the flagship Elite 10s!
- Unlike the “Active” versions of Jabra’s earbuds which are dustproof, sweatproof, and waterproof to levels suiting hardcore gym-rats or listening in sandy/desert environments, the Elite 5s feature the same IP55 (“rainproof”) ratings as the Elite 3 and 4…suitable for light workouts, wet weather, and protection against harmful dust ingress--but they aren’t dustproof per se, and I wouldn’t recommend swimming in a pair!
- The charging case is slim, smooth, and nicely rounded to avoid pressure or discomfort in pocket. The lid features a magnetic closure and can be juiced using both USB-C and wireless charging, the latter of which is not available on the lower-end Elite earbuds.
- All of the Elites support AAC and SBC codecs, but the Elite 5 is the last of the lineup that DOES support the Qualcomm aptX high-definition codec. If you like to listen/stream high-definition music, the Elite 5s offer better codec support than the Elite 7, 8, or 10!
- The Elite 7, 8, and 10 all have a rounder, even more streamlined bean-shaped shell, supposedly the result of Jabra’s continued research into the average user’s ear anatomy. While this can provide for a very comfortable fit, the slightly more elongated shape of the Elite 5 is still incredibly comfortable, but it actually provided a MORE secure fit for me as the shape of the Elite 5 (and Elite 3) “bites” slightly further into the folds of my tragus/antitragus. While jogging with my Elite 10s, a particularly vigorous run would start to shake the buds loose from my ears--the Elite 5s stayed more resolutely in place for much longer periods of time without any additional fatigue or hot spots.
- All Elites can be configured and personalized with the Jabra Sound+ app, but the Elite 5 offers virtually all of the higher-end features and customizations of Jabra’s pricier lineup including battery charge status displays of both earbuds and the case, adjustable noise cancellation levels, HearThrough activation, 5-band music EQ with presets and custom sound profiles, “Soundscape” settings that provide various white noise and environmental sounds for focus, concentration or relaxation, as well as setting up to 18 different media playback and call functions with a single, double, or triple press of either earbud’s control surfaces (3 settings per bud customized for use during music and media, incoming calls, and active calls). Speaking of the controls, the Elite 5s feature a large, tactile flat button that is much easier to use than swipe/tap controls (in my experience) and doesn’t require so much pressure that you feel like you have to press the bud into your skull to activate.
- Voice assistant support includes Siri, Google Assistant, and full Amazon Alexa integration; Spotify tap is also thrown in for good measure, though I don’t subscribe to that service so I can’t comment on how well it works.
- I greatly appreciated the clear voice prompts and status reports that the Elite 5 provided versus the rudimentary beeps and tones of the Elite 3s.
- Jabra’s marketing materials make a big deal about the Elite 7 Pro’s improved call quality via their Multisensor Voice feature, but I had no difficulty making long calls on the go with the Elite 5s, even during a particularly windy jog through the neighborhood…no one ever reported having difficulty hearing me or complained about audio quality from my end to theirs.
- The Elite 5 offers Jabra’s “Hybrid ANC,” an adjustable noise-cancelling function that simply blew me away with just how much sound it blocked out beyond any passive isolation achieved with a good, snug fit alone. Specifically, despite their high price and placement at the top of Jabra’s Elite lineup, I found the Elite 10’s supposedly TOTL Advanced ANC supremely disappointing…at best, it attenuated background noise, but cancelled virtually nothing (I think in large part due to its semi-open design). With the Elite 5s, I was ensconced in almost complete silence in my 3-man office with the ANC setting at maximum. High-pitched, repetitive impulse noise like keystrokes and the loud drone of our building’s HVAC system were barely audible and I couldn’t hear anyone talking in the hallway more than 15-feet away. But what sold me on the Elite 5’s ANC prowess was when I was using them at home and our washer became unbalanced during a spin cycle. I was one room away and I had no idea my wife was even using the washing machine, much less that it was making loud rhythmical thuds as it scooted across the floor. I immediately switched over to the Elite 10s at full ANC for the purposes of this comparison and could easily make out the mechanical noise and thuds of the spinning washer drum--admittedly, the sounds were dull, but definitely still audible. I switched back again to the Elite 5s and I actually had to struggle to make out the sounds I knew were there in the background.
Despite sitting in the middle of the Jabra Elite lineup, I believe the Elite 5 may actually offer the best value for the money if you want a wonderfully musical-sounding set of earbuds with supremely capable ANC. Yes, the added oomph of the Elite 10’s larger drivers provide *just a hair* more body in the low end of some really bassy tracks, but I could still enjoy visceral, chest-thumping bass with the Elite 5s after just a tiny bit of EQ if I even felt like it was warranted. Otherwise, mids, highs, and vocals were all clear, crisp, detailed, and rendered without any strain or sounding unnatural/overly processed. BT latency was barely perceptible, if at all—you can easily watch movies or play video games with the Elite 5s without distracting A/V sync issues. And unlike some other ANC solutions I’ve experienced in the past, activating even the highest ANC setting did not have an appreciable effect on sound quality, nor did it create any painful pressure in my inner ear.
Although the Elite 5s lack the onboard Dolby Atmos capabilities of the Elite 8s and Elite 10s, I personally found that effect somewhat gimmicky as not every piece of music or soundtrack lent itself well to artificially expanding into a 3D sound-field, and many audio sources offer the same sort of experience without needing anything built into the earbuds anyway; i.e., Amazon Music offers Dolby Atmos across a large swathe of its tracks while most PCs have some kind of spatial audio of their own as well as commercial solutions like Dolby, DTS, THX, etc. Considering the Elite 5’s higher-definition codec support and superior ANC performance, I could just as easily recommend these earbuds over Jabra’s current flagship Elite 10s…DEFINITELY keep these on your [very] shortlist of high-quality, high-definition, ANC earbuds!

Tiny but powerful

The Jabra Elite 5 is tiny but yet with powerful sound earbuds. These Jabra earbuds are very well made. They are small, light with great sound reproduction. They last up to 7 hrs with the noise canceling on and 28 hrs with the carrying case. The carrying case is small and slim making it easy to fit in any pocket. The case also holds 21 hours of battery charge. The case can be charged with the included USB-C cable or via wireless charging. Each earbud features a tactile button, one for activating ANC and the other for playback and phone call controls
Setting them is pretty straightforward. On my pixel phone when you open the case you will be promoted if you want to pair them. The other option is to pair them using the Bluetooth setting or downloading the Jabra Sound+ app. While delivering excellent sound quality and ANC support, there's room for improvement in noise cancellation. The option to hear outside noise (hear through) is beneficial for outdoor activities. For the most part they are not that bulky and they are comfortable in the ear. The bulky part where the button is located, but they don't protrude as much. The included rubber seal does a good job, I had to switch it to the small size to be more comfortable.
The sound quality is great with good bass. You can connect the voice assistant to work directly with the earbuds. I went out on a run with them and I did notice even with the ANC on the wind drag noise was really bad. By turning off the ANC and the ambient sound it reduces the wind drag noise drastically. The phone calls were very clear and the mic was able to pick up my voice with no problem. The Jabra Sound+ app is simple to use and allows you to adjust various settings of the earbuds. You can turn on/off the ANC and ambient sound. There's an equalizer option which works pretty well. Within the app you can see the current battery percentage of the buds and the case.
Overall this is a very well made earbud with great sound quality. They will last about a full 24 hrs day with the use of the carrying case. They are tiny and comfortable. The slim carrying case makes them a breeze to travel with. In the box you get the earbuds, carrying case, USB-C cable, ear tips, and manuals.

5 Star quality in-ear headphones by Jabra

The Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) In-ear Headphones are solid! After easily pairing the headphones via the Jabra Sound + app on my iPhone, I could see that there was so much I was able to do to personalize these from within the app. I can personalize just about everything - I can change the sound via the customizable equalizer or the preset modes - I can even change the preset modes to be more to my liking. For phone calls - would I like to auto-answer or maybe auto-mute? I can set these up to do both, if I choose. You can choose a voice assistant: either Siri, Alexa or you can have Spotify - but you can't have both. I chose Spotify! And from within the app, you can find the Jabra Elite 5 User Manual. This is a full-blown manual - not a teeny-tiny little piece of paper - there are 37 pages of information. I may as well use these to the fullest extent possible.
So, how do these function? Quite well, in my opinion. When I take these headphones out of the case, they automatically turn on and connect to my phone. Once I found the correct position for these in my ears, I could wear them comfortably for hours. Jabra claims after being fully charged, the headphones should last up to 7 hours and within the Qi-certified charging case, they should last up to 28 hours. I charged them once, and I haven't needed to do so again after a week of on and off use. I am able to have 2 devices connected to these Jabra headphones at the same time. I don't have to disconnect my iPhone when I want to listen to them with my MacBook and when I'm done with my Mac, I simply use them with my iPhone again! I love that convenience. Another great feature is Find My Jabra - if you have an iPhone, you are likely familiar with their Find my iPhone. Where did I put those headphones? I can easily locate them, down to my precise location from within the Jabra Sound+ app. ANC is a great feature for some, but I prefer to let some sound Pass Through, and these let me change the setting to do that with just a tap. When I'm outside, I need to hear the sounds around me. They also have a setting to turn this completely off. As for phone calls - I have NEVER heard a call more clearly than with these. It was actually amazing to me. The person I was talking to could hear me crystal clearly as well, which is probably due to the 6 microphones. They were as amazed at the clarity as I was.
As for the sound - it is very, very good. Yes, I have heard better sound from in-ear headphones, but definitely not at this price-point. I do not find the sound to be lacking at all for my daily use. These are a good deal as they are IP5 rated, they come with 3 sizes of ear gels, and a USB C cable.
I would highly recommend these Jabra Elite 5 True Wireless Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling In-ear Headphones with my highest 5 star rating. I think if you are looking for comfort, great sound, excellent call quality - you really don't need to look any further. These are a keeper for sure!

Another Solid ANC Bud From Jabra
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I’ve had a chance to try out the new Jabra Elite 5 in Titanium Black for the last few days. I’ve used them at home doing chores, walking the dogs, listening to music, gaming, and online meetings. These are true wireless buds that are focused on being a good all-around bud. I have used several other Jabra headsets and earbuds including the Elite 10 and Elite 7 Pro, so I have some experience with Jabra’s design layout. So far I have found the buds to be pretty good with a few improvements (for me anyways) over the 7’s and 10’s.
Features
The Elite 5’s are ‘in-ear’ buds and come with 3 different sized swappable ear tips. The shape of the bud as and the ear tip work together to keep the bud secured. These buds carry an IP55 rating so they should be good for exercising, but not so much for swimming or in the shower. Each bud has a small status light, and a metallic flat outer surface. This surface covers the clickable button on the bud. The material on the rest of the bud is a soft and smooth plastic that provides a little bit of grip for picking the bud out of the case or retaining it in your ear.
The buds come with Bluetooth 5.2 and a rated range of 33 feet. The buds can remember 6 devices to pair with, and supports multipoint pairing as well. Battery life of the buds is pretty good at 7 hours with ANC on and playing music. Toggling off ANC bumps the buds battery life to 9 hours. With the included case the buds have an overall battery life of 28 hours with ANC on or 36 hours with it off. The 5’s also feature a quick charge option where 10 minutes in the case gives you an extra hour of life – this is a bit longer than the 5 minutes for the 7’s and 10’s. Total charge time is 3 hours, and that can be accomplished with the provided cord or on a wireless Qi charger. I use a Qi charger on my nightstand, and my desk so this is a convenient way for me to charge. My Pixel 7 Pro can also share charge wirelessly, and it’s something I have used before to resurrect my 7’s on a flight.
With regards to the case it is small – just a touch smaller than the case for the 10’s. However, I like this case a little more because it has a flat bottom and can stand upright. The charge port is on the backside and the Qi charging surface is the flat bottom. The case is small enough to fit in you pocket without being in the way, and it would easily tuck inside a laptop bag for travel.
Pairing was very easy on my Pixel 7 Pro since I already had the Sound+ app installed. With the app running I pulled an earbud out of the case. It paired straight away and took me into the setup, which you have to complete before you can adjust any EQ’s or button functions. I have the buds paired to my phone and work laptop so I can utilize the multipoint feature – laptop pairing was easy, but you can’t adjust any settings unless you are in the phone app. With the Sound+ app I setup my controls, call settings, desired EQ, and sound modes. There are 3 sound modes - ANC (active noise cancellation), hear-through, and off. Both ANC and Hear-through are tuneable in the app, so you can adjust them to your preferred levels. The ANC works great in my experience. I would say they are similar to the 7’s with how well they isolate the sound out, but actually come out ahead of the more premium 10’s. Part of that is the bud shape – the 10’s are more open and designed for longer wear comfort. The ANC tunes out white noise with ease – even handling the sounds of my kids playing video games. I got to test buds against their noise production this week because it’ss Spring Break and I’m working from home. While walking my dogs the ANC would tune out the sounds of cars passing by completely, so for safety reasons I made sure to set them to hear-through if I was in the street.
Fit/Comfort
My initial impression was that the buds felt a little more compact in my ear. The tips wedge into my ear well, and the body of the bud sits flatter to my ear surface than the 7’s and 10’s. For this reason I had my girlfriend, who has smaller ears, try the 5’s out. She does not find the 7’s or 10’s comfortable because of the fit in her outer ear, but she didn’t mind the fit on the 5’s. I was kind of surprised because in comparison I thought the 5’s shared a close resemblance to the design of the 7’s. So that’s nice to see that these buds might fit a broader range of ear sizes. The tips themselves do wedge in there, and over time may create some discomfort. The tightness of the fit is necessary to hold the bud in and to create a good seal for the ANC and music sound quality. I am looking forward to trying these out while doing yardwork – the flatter profile gives me a little more confidence that a stray tree branch won’t knock these out of my ear while I’m mowing.
Controls
The controls the same as my other Jabra’s, which are pretty easy to get used to. Each bud has a physical that when pressed performs a different function depending on the activity you are using them for. Music, incoming calls, and on-going calls all have different control schemes. The button press is easy to pull of even when running on a treadmill, and the act of pressing the button doesn’t force the bud further into your ear, which is nice. The button gives a nice click feedback, and doesn’t require a lot of force.
Inside the Sound+ app you can customize what you want your controls to be. The controls are split between the left and right buds, and you have the option of 1, 2, or 3 button pushes to assign your command to. If you decide to just use one bud in mono, you will only have the controls you assigned to that bud available to you.
Also, for the first time I can use the Spotify connections feature, which is activated by a double tap on the left bud. I just signed up for Spotify at the beginning of the year, and I hadn’t set it up on my other buds yet. It’s not on by default, so you have to find the setting in the app and toggle it on. Using this feature opens up Spotify and starts playing where you left off. This would be useful if your phone is tucked away in a bag or pocket.
Sound
Sound out of the buds is great. I have been really impressed with my Jabra buds and have told many coworkers about them. The sound quality keeps up with the 7’s, but lacks a little bit of the extra punch that the 10’s have due to their larger 10mm drivers. The 5’s come with 6mm drivers, and they provide a good level of punchy bass and sound quality. There are 6 different preset EQ’s in the app and you can always customize a preset to your liking. I prefer a little more bass to my EQ’s, so I always bump the lower levels up a bit which the buds handled well. The tight seal of the ear tips helps to boost the bass you hear, and the sound clarity is excellent. The 10’s are the best sounding buds I have used with the 7’s, and now the 5’s right behind in that ranking. They offer a good blend of comfort and sound quality that is hard to dismiss.
For calls I am just resigning myself to the realization that buds are not the best. Call quality on my end was superb. For those I was talking to it depended on my surrounding. Wind gets picked up even though the buds try to filter it out. Background noise in my house, or my furnace blower kicking on gets picked up. Driving in the car creates a baseline fuzziness, so I would have to speak up. Like with my other buds I found that the call quality would improve with ANC and hear through toggled off. I guess it frees up those mics to better filter things out.
Overall
The Jabra Elite 5’s make a solid addition to Jabra’s lineup. I am impressed again with the build quality and the overall performance. Music sounds great, the ANC is really isolating, and the fit is good. I am happy to see these are more comfortable for smaller ears unlike so many earbuds I have tried out.

The Jabra Elite 5 is a nice wireless earbud. It’s easy to pair using the Jabra Sound + app. I am using an iPhone X. At first, only the left side earbud worked. The right one had no sound coming out. I put it back in the charger case. Waited 30 seconds then put the right one in my ear first. Once I started hearing the music I put the left on in and both worked.
The charger case is a good size. Not too big, not too small. It comes with a USB-A to USB-C charger cable. It is short. But if you have a USB-C cable, it will work.
There are six music presets. Neutral, speech, bass boost, treble boost, smooth, and energize. These presets affect the equalizer. I use speech when I’m listening to podcasts and audiobooks. The voices come in much clearer to me. When listening to music, I like to use bass boost. It all depends on what you are listening to. The sound quality is great. It has a good balance with different music. You don’t have to use the presets. You can create your own custom settings with the equalizer and save them as your own preset.
There are three sound modes. The active noise cancellation has five different levels. HearThrough also has five levels. You can turn off the sound modes as well.
The earbuds fit well and comes with two other sizes ear tips. I can lie down sideways on my pillow and they are comfortable.
I like these earbuds and recommend them.

Jabra- Elite 5 Titanium Black wireless earbuds, First make sure you download the Jabra app, I order to connect you earbuds to your phone it took me a couple tries to connect them but it was pretty easy I was just doing it wrong. It comes with three different size rubber ear pieces so find your size that comfortable in you ear, I find the buds feel very lightweight compared to other earbuds I've owned the shape of them fits more comfortably in my ear well. The charging case is small and lightweight. Nice you've connected your earbuds to your phone you can customize the sound from the app, bass levels, equalizer, noise cancellation which I found works great, music presets, it also comes with soundscape that has white noise etc for surround noise cancellation also has nature sounds which I found very relaxing. You can customize the setting for answering the phone/hang up, volume up/down etc. I could never get use to the taps to active modes so I really liked that I could do it to my liking, you can choose to set which earbud you want to activate when your only using one like I normally use the right one alone so you can set to choose when you put that bud in it works alone. I love the sound quality. I think these are my favorite earbuds so far that I've owned.

The sound quality is excellent, with clear highs, deep bass, and a well-balanced profile. The Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) works great in blocking out background noise, making it perfect for both commuting and work calls.
