Great Replacement For Traditional Dumbbel Set

JaxJox Dumbbell Connect is a pair of Bluetooth enabled dumbbells. You can select select your desired weight in increments of 6 lbs. The base weight of one is 8 lbs. with a maximum selectable weight of 50 lbs. The set comes with two cradles, two dumbbells, and weights. Each cradle will need to be charged before use and when the battery charge is low. This is done by way of a USB-C port on the back of each. The set comes with two USB-A to USB-C cables, but my set did not come with two USB-A to AC adapters, so I found myself searching around for two. Luckily I found two, one for each base. Each cradle has an LCD screen on the front that is easy to read. You can increase/decrease the weight by using the buttons to either side of the LCD screen. The interface is very simple and straight forward. The set is Bluetooth enabled which allows you to connect the set to your mobile device through the JaxJox mobile app. The app features classes, goals, tracking, etc. The tracking is helpful as it will keep track of reps, sets, duration, power, calories and can show this for current day, average over a week, and average over a month. It also allows you to see if you are hitting your goals. The app, after 7 days of use, calculates a Fitness IQ score for you. One of the best features for me is that it saves quite a lot of space. I can now do away with all of the traditional style dumbbells that I have that took up much more space than the JaxJox set.
Of note, the dumbbells need to be set in the cradle straight down in order for the weights to line up properly. That's not really a problem, but is something to mention. I did have a few instances of the cradles/dumbbells not connecting to my mobile device even though my mobile device was only a few feet away. It only happened a few times though. Aside from those two things, I would say this is a great dumbbell set and would recommend it to anyone looking to replace their traditional dumbbells.

Home workout equipment has come a long way.
The obvious next step was to make our equipment smarter.
Enter the Jaxjox adjustable dumbbell.
This works like most of the other adjustable dumbbells in the market, except for its main selling point, it’s all done automatically with a push of a button. (Or several pushes depending on what weight you need)
What’s included are two base dumbbells, extra weight discs, two bases for the base dumbbells and extra discs, and two USB-C to USB-A.
*The box that it comes in is fairly/very heavy. I honestly feel for the person(s) that had to move that box from the delivery truck to my front door* Lift with your legs everybody, lift with your legs.
The set up is straight forward; set up the base, place all of the discs, place the base dumbbell, plug in the USB-C into the back, and then the USB-A into an adaptor or surge protector that has available USB-A ports. (This is the only negative point for this product. I don’t know why you wouldn’t include power adaptors with this device. I had to look for an extra surge protector with USB-A ports. I guess you could also use any extra phone power adaptors lying around. Still, it’s a hassle)
The base dumbbells themselves have a nice textured grip, and feels sturdy. The main test would be how it felt once the extra discs were added on. I will get to that in a little bit.
Adding or removing extra discs is super easy. You press the right arrow to add increments of 8 pounds, or the left arrow to remove. It’s that simple. Nothing to touch on the weights or base dumbbell itself.
My biggest concern was if the discs would rattle around during any motion, and I’m happy to say that it doesn’t. All of the discs were secure, and they didn’t rotate or move in any way.
Now onto the app.
How do I put this delicately… it’s quite frankly a useless app unless you’re ready to pay the $12.99 a month that is prompted every single time you even attempt to watch any training video. Maybe I’m the only one experiencing this but I couldn’t watch a single video. I couldn’t watch a single second without agreeing to sign up for the monthly fee. With that price, it costs what a gym membership would cost.
Luckily you can do whatever normal exercises you would normally do without needing the app.
What would made the app actually useful is if you could set up a schedule program based on your workout routine. You could have it set to Monday/Wednesday/Friday – 16 lbs for warm up, then when you put the dumbbell back into the base, it automatically aligns at 32 for all your sets, then put it back, switches to 16 for another workout, rinse and repeat. With smart phones, I don’t see why this couldn’t be implemented. That way you don’t need to keep manually switching the weights in between sets.
The app itself is probably the biggest letdown. This is one of those few instances where I wish an app didn’t exist for a piece of hardware.
The dumbbells themselves are great, and that’s pretty much it. The app and the lack of power adaptor is what lowered the overall score in this case.

These are great for space saving. I'm impressed with how little space they take up but how much they add to my home gym. There are so many exercises you can use dumbbells with. Switching between settings is fast and easy. I wish they came with a little more weight like maybe up to 60lbs. I can see some of my exercises out growing the 50lbs. Setting up the app was a little confusing but you could just plug them in and go. They come with 2 charging cords but no wall warts. I wish they just connect together then had 1 cord that went to a provided wall wart. The charge is long lasting.
I didn't have an issue with durability but I have a concern with durability. It seems like the plastic around the weights could crack pretty easily if you aren't careful. The bar is sturdy and ergonomic. Grabbing around the weights is pretty easy too for some exercise. It would be nice if the base beeped a notification if the weights were misaligned when being replaced. I had a couple times one side would get skewed and miss the slots but the base beeped that everything was ok.
For me the app seemed pretty worthless. It was confusing to navigate and required a subscription to access anything useful. The programs and classes it had were good. There were different durations and skill levels. Like you could choose a 10min dumbbell workout or a 60min one. My issue is for the cost of the subscription I might as well pay for a gym membership and have access to all the equipment. The only free part of the app was tracking reps and overall weight lifted. Interesting stats but nothing I personally track.
As smart weights these have a lot of potential. The app could be updated with better features. Like paying less for individual workouts instead of a subscription would be better and then having free basic workouts as well. Tutorial videos on various dumbbell exercises. Being able to create your own work out choosing the exercises you want then being able to share that amongst friends. With the rep counting you could set up challenges amongst friends.

Space Saving Dumbells that are smart

One of the issues I have with weights at home is that they take up lots of space. You need one of each weight that you want to use or you are just stuck with a set of 2 that you cannot change the weight. The JaxJox Dumbells solve this problem, as they are the size of two large dumbells but you get all the weights in between (from 50 lbs down to 8).
Outside of the space savings, they are actually pretty easy to use. Just plug in the base and then press how much weight you want. They open and close to adjust, and you're ready to go. If you want you can connect them to the phone app, and track your workouts there too. The JaxJox app also has workouts built-in, and you get a 30-day trial before you have to pay.
My one minor issue is the fact that these come with the USB cable to plug in, but no wall adaptor. So if you don't happen to have extra USB A plugs to connect these to, you won't be able to charge them. More of a minor issue overall though.
If you're looking for a set of dumbells then I would highly recommend these. Even without the smart features and app, these are great and save space, and the smart features just take them up the next level.

So, with the pandemic going on and uncertainty of gyms staying opening or closing, I decided to start investing in some home options in the instance the gyms were to ever close down again.
This is where the JAXJOX Dumbbells. For one, prices of dumbbells became inflated during this time we are in. The amount it would’ve cost me to get a few sets of dumbbells made no sense when you can have an all in one option like these. These are 15 dumbbells in one when you consider all the weight adjustments you can do with them as a pair. The amount of space saved with this efficient design made this a no brainer. The weight options range from 8 to 50lbs in 6lb increments. This gives a nice sweet spot in weight whether you are trying to cut, bulk, going for light weight with high reps or heavy weight with low reps, the versatility of these are fantastic. Adjusting is easy thanks to the bright and clear LCD screen on the base.
The JAXJOX app offers a lot of options itself too, especially for classes. My first class I signed up with was only about 9 minutes long, it was a Strong class with Coach Anthony.. I figured 9 minutes to test these bad boys out, should be cake… wrong… I was dying in no time. Now, I know the pandemic hasn’t been great for me and adding a few extra pounds and being out of shape, but for someone like me who practically worked out every single day before lockdowns, I did not expect this short workout to do that much work for me like it did. I was sweating in no time and watching in real time while the class/video was playing my reps and progress. At the end of it all my data saved and logged to todays today to go back to reference. This is extremely beneficial as this allows you to keep track of your progress and your improvements the more you do classes and do the same way down the road to see how far you've come along. Now, I’ve been going back to the gym since they opened back up however my motivation just hasn’t been there. I feel like I’m dragging along and at the end of my workout don’t feel like I accomplished much or feel the good pain… after just 9 minutes I can say that wasn’t the case. I felt motivated just hearing someone coach me along and push me to get it done. After the short 9 minutes I felt like I accomplished a solid workout. This is my first time really utilizing a coach based virtual trainer like this and I have to say it definitely helped.
I would definitely recommend these if it fits your budget. The overall package and synchronization this offers I feel sets it apart from competition. From its versatility, to its comfortable handle and solid build, I really don’t see how anyone would be disappointed. My only negative I'd give this is the monthly subscription to classes. I personally feel somewhere around $5 to $8 a month is more sustainable

Overall I have been happy with the JAXJOX dumbbell set. Unboxing and set up was easy. The app worked very well in iOS. The classes offered are great and keep you motivated and involved. The price to join is $12.99 per month after your 30 day free trial. That’s definitely cheaper then you would spend on a gym membership. Changing the level of weight is easy and quick. The only thing I found to complain about was the fact that they don’t ship with a wall charger. You get the 2 usb cables but nothing to connect into the wall, for the price of these, you should get everything you need in the box.

Two week experience perspective:
Setup: Very simple and well organized in the box. You will have to charge the dumbbell set and of course download the app. Comes with USB charge cords.
Experience: I can say these are good when you can’t make it to the gym especially if you live in the winter locations. Max lbs is 50 and yes it’s legit 50. The plates do look plastic but they feel how dumbbells should feel.
When I first lifted them I was concerned if the plates were even connected and thought maybe they could fall but as I lifted, they are solid. I like the app and they have several workout options, classes and even a trial. The community however feels small within the app which would be my only con. I do love that it has a self workout track record for your workouts and it’s free.
It will be interesting in how long these lasts but I’m not expecting these to replace going to the gym. The charge to the base lasted the two weeks before needing a charge. If you need that quick morning workout, these will do the trick. Again, get these for those home workouts when your not able to make it too the gym and there are plenty of workout routines within the app and on YouTube.

Wow! Technology has come a long way since I was a teenager and working out routinely for sports. Being a tech person I know we can do all kinds of wonderful and awesome things with technology but I was not sure if there would be a huge, vast improvement to the tried and true dumbbell set. I am happy to admit that I was completely mistaken. The JAXJOX Dumbbell Connect with weight adjustable dumbbells is a really cool and an technological advancement I never knew I needed!
My family and I are always on the go so it can be hard to take time to get to the gym and with Covid-19 going on we have not been wanting anyone in the house to do so. Which, for me, I haven't been in a gym since probably high school except when doing some minor working out with my sons. I had been looking at various exercise equipment for our home. All the way from the high dollar all in one pulley or rod systems to conventional weights. We decided to hold off for now and not long after I was offered an opportunity to test out and keep the JAXJOX dumbbell set. Little did I know that one of my sons had been looking at a set of these during our search. It wasn't until they arrived that he let me know "hey! I knew about those and was wanting to try them out!" and that is what we did!
SETUP:
Set-up was really easy. The package is pretty heavy so it took myself and one of my teenage sons to get it inside of our home. Once we did we went about setting it up. In the package you have 7 plates for each side of each dumbbell. These arrived about half charged but we wanted to let them charge fully before trying them out. We got the bases, plates, dumbbells and cables out of the box and set up. The only thing not included is a wall outlet to USB adapter. The set comes with a USB-C cable for each base and luckily we had two spare wall adapters for us to use. It took probably a few hours to charge, I didn't keep a timer as we had other things we needed to do around the house.
Once everything was charged we went through testing out to make sure it would put the correct amount of weight that you set on the base's LCD screen which it does so quickly and flawlessly. Next I downloaded the JAXJOX app to my phone and set up my account. It asked the basics of height, weight, gender, and fitness goal as well as connecting you to the equipment that you have. JAXJOX has a few different solutions that they offer and we will be looking to them to add to our home exercise equipment. The system is very sleek looking, and fits inside our modern looking home very nice-I really love how it looks and the quality of the dumbbell set is top notch. They are flat on the bottom and allow for using them during push-ups. Plus we are able to save TONS of space with this JAXJOX system.
JAXJOX APP AND USAGE:
The JAXJOX app itself houses all the workout videos and you can filter by the length of the class, what muscles you'll be working on, the instructor, your fitness level, and a filter called "Category" which focuses the workout on building strength, burning calories, or so on. One thing I found very odd is on the Classes screen I can select my equipment but when I then go to filter it doesn't apply that equipment "filter" nor does it allow for doing so. This can be fixed later but it is pretty annoying as the thumbnails for everything I saw showed the kettlebell being used. I'd like to see them fix this. So, what I ended up doing was showing all the dumbbell workouts and picking one I thought would work best for me in that moment. All the instructors I took on-demand classes with were great! They talk you through what you are doing to be sure you see and hear what they are wanting you to do. Also, there are no dumbbell based Programs, only the kettlebell. Build the programs and classes up JAXJOX!
I noticed some were having issues with the dumbbells losing connection to their phone, I did not have that issue. They stayed connected. I am not sure if they had multiple people using the dumbbells on multiple phones or what, but we had it just on mine and used it through my phone. I did however have an issue of where it was not tracking how many reps I was doing. One of the reasons I wanted this was so I could keep track of how many reps and sets I was doing as I tend to lose count if I am just wanting to do a few quick sets without doing an on-demand class. Bummer. Hopefully they can work on fixing this and get it resolved for us.
Lastly, I would love the ability to try some of the premium features. With the retail price of this set being what it is I would think they would do a 30-180 day (1-6 month) trial or free premium. Maybe that is something else to look into.
I am actually really happy with this. Yes, there are bugs but with technology there are always going to be some bugs that need to be fixed along the way. I have Alpha'd and Beta'd a lot of different products as well as even played video games that have "gone gold" (been released for purchase) that had massive bugs once launched so I am not too terribly worried about the bugs they have. I am sure they will fix them very soon.
CONCLUSION:
While not completely bug free it is still a very nice set and has such a very small footprint for the amount of weight it is capable of. I have already recommended this set to a couple of family members and friends as I believe this company, if they keep with it, will really be changing the exercise game and bringing it into the 21st century!
So why the 4 stars? We do have a couple minor bugs in the app (mentioned previously) as well as the need to supply your own wall outlet to USB adapter. Something this price you would thing they would provide the wall adapters as well as have some of the more basic bugs worked out as well as the content to support the items they are selling at market. Unfortunately that is not so.
If you're looking for a good set up of weights with a small footprint and some pretty nice training classes on the app then definitely give the JAXJOX Connect Dumbbell set a shot!

The JaxJox Dumbbell Connect is a great in home solution for someone looking for a digital adjustable dumbbell set, but the APP and AI tracking is sadly not ready for prime time. I was very excited to try out these weights as I had been wanting an in home adjustable weight set. Setup was easy and only took a few minutes. I found it kind of funny they sent a HUGE instruction booklet and it only had 5 pages I really needed. Linking up with the phone app was easy enough and I was up and running in a few minutes. Quick weight selection from the base or the phone app only takes a few seconds when it comes to adjusting on the fly. This to me is one of the most important features and it works as advertised. The uniform dumbbell shape is nice, and I enjoyed having the flat side on the bottom for stationary placement from the floor. The weight sets have a good build quality to them and I am happy with the feel of them so far. But for the price it does worry me about the what if’s. A Weight set like this should last 10-15 years easy if I were buying an adjustable non digital set. Only time will tell how long the charging base and digital weight adjustment holds up. This brings me to my one negative about the weights, the app and the AI. The app crashed frequently and wasn’t very intuitive. Classes didn’t really seem to fit the weight set I had very well, I tried a few different ones but some of them didn't even increase weight at all during the class. Some videos demonstrate good form which is a nice touch, but I find that the classes may not fit my style of strength training very well. Also the bluetooth connectivity supposedly tracks reps, sets, total weight etc and also “power” in your movement when you hit the start workout now button. Only problem Is it didn’t track very well when I used it and even recorded a 72,100 rep workout on a day I didn’t even touch the weights. So hopefully these kinks with the APP and the AI can be worked out long term. Other than those small issues I love the weight system and look forward to using it for years to come.

Weights are good for a beginner without the knowledge of free weight usage...especially if space is an issue.
Use is limited to dumbbell use and the plates cannot be transferred to a long bar for bench pressing.
Very compact and neat. Nice stylish base with digitized LED easily allows transfer of the added weight without lifting individual plates. The increase in weight is effortless and at the mere touch of a button on the base.
The weight of the dumbbell without the added weights is 8 lbs and the increment of each dumbbell is 6 lbs, so the next increase would make the dumbbells 14 lbs each, then another increase using the LED would increase each dumbbell to 20 lbs and so forth.
The dumbbells feel uneven when using them to workout and bulky. They also make a low sound, like clicking as I workout and lift them.
As you can see from the pics attached, the design of the plates have a flat side to them which in my opinion may be the cause of the unevenness I sense in the dumbbell.
Be very careful inserting the individual plates into the base for first use...you can pinch your finger in between plates if not careful. Not to be left near children where they may touch the LED button while someone is working out or where they may try to lift the plates while the dumbbell isn’t in the base.
Changing the LED weight while the dumbbell is off the base may cause injury by the base communicating to the dumbbell to release weight/plates.
The unevenness felt, feels like there’s a pulling towards the flat part of the design when doing a workout.
The App recommended for it needs iOS 13.0 or higher for Apple devices. My iPad didn’t offer 13.0 and my android device play store didn’t offer the App. I finally installed on my iPhone since I had iOS 13.0 and higher installed, but would rather have the App on my tablet so my phone stays available for other uses.
The blue tooth on the base of the JaxJox connected with my iPhone but the App didn’t function. JaxJox reps were reached and was offered one on one help.

Years ago I bought a set of iron weights along with a pair of star-lock dumbbell handles. I thought it would be great to do dumbbell exercises with a variety of weights. Changing out the weights turned out to be annoying, and the star-locks would loosen while I used the dumbbells, making the plates clang together. Eventually my usage of them diminished to zero.
Fast-forward to today, and the JaxJox Dumbbell Connect. This is a set of dumbbells with plastic-coated plates that can be adjusted at the push of a button. Each dumbbell sits in its own plastic tray, keeping the weights nice and neat. The tray contains a rechargeable battery and a small LCD display showing how much weight is on each dumbbell. There are also 2 buttons, which you use to increase or decrease the amount of weight on each dumbbell.
The set is well-constructed, with a knurled steel handle that connects to the weight plates. With no extra plates attached, the handles weigh 8 pounds, and you can increase the weight in 6 pound increments. Changing weights couldn’t be easier: just place the handle back in the base and select the amount you want with the buttons. Within a few seconds, each dumbbell will beep to tell you that the change is complete. The increments roll over, so that if you press too many times, just keep pressing and you’ll go back around from the beginning. This is actually a nice touch.
Using the weights feels very natural. They attach to the handle securely, and don’t clang while in use. Some reviews have stated that it’s too difficult to place the handles back in the base properly so that the weights are straight up and down. It’s true that this does happen on occasion, meaning that the weights won’t adjust properly, but it’s easy enough just to be careful to ensure that this doesn’t happen. One thing I really like about this set is the clean look it has. I’ve seen other dumbbells similar to this that only look good at their highest weight setting. Anything less and it looks like you’re picking up some sort of black fishbone. The JaxJox Dumbbell Connect looks symmetrical and balanced at any weight setting. You can see this in my pictures. You can also see how neat and compact these are in their bases. Anyone who has tried to keep a set of iron plates stacked neatly knows how difficult this can be. The Dumbbell Connect packs 15 dumbbells into the space of 2, and that is a major advantage.
The mechanism for changing the weights is motorized, so the connection between the handle and the base is critical for its operation. While it’s too early to tell, this has the potential to be the Achilles Heel for the set. Should the connection fail, or if the battery won’t take a charge, I won’t be able to change the amount of weight on the handle, and it’ll be a giant paper weight. Hopefully these will last a very long time, but it is something to consider as you compare to other alternatives. Speaking of batteries, the batteries in the base can be charged using the included USB-C charging cable. Unfortunately, JaxJox did not include a charger for the cable to plug into, so you’ll have to supply your own.
While the handles and weights themselves are very well-built, I can’t say the same for the app. The app promises exercise tracking, goal-setting and on-demand classes, but it delivers very little. You are required to set up an account to get started, which some may find off-putting. I was excited to try out the on-demand classes, but I was disappointed to find that none of them were available without first signing up for a premium membership at $12.99 per month. I expected to at least find a few classes that I could try before paying even more money. There’s also a “programs” section in the app, but there are no programs available for the dumbbells. I checked out what’s available for the kettlebell, and did find what looked to be a pretty good set of workouts put together into a program, but when I tried to preview it, the app locked up. When this app locks up, it REALLY locks up, so much so that my phone is inoperable. In fact, no other app that I’ve ever used has been able to lock up my phone so tightly. Once this happens, you can do nothing but wait for it to clear up enough so that you can kill the app. The app will also lock up if a request to load a class fails. On the positive side, the app does include access to some “skills” videos that show some ways to use the dumbbells for various exercises. Other sections, such as “For You” and “Fitness IQ” are nothing but more ads for going premium.
Beyond the video training aspect of the app, I was excited at the prospect of having it keep track of my workouts and progress toward my goals. Unfortunately, the app failed completely at doing that. It registered wildly inaccurate counts for sets and reps, and couldn’t figure out which day of the week on which to place them. I did a set of 8 reps and the app told me I had done 3 sets of 2, 2 and 3 reps each. Trying to use this for tracking toward a goal is just an exercise in frustration. Given that the app features a lot video content (if you pay for it), I thought it would be better to use on the bigger screen of an iPad. Alas, it’s not really a universal app that scales properly for an iPad. Instead, it stays in the phone aspect ratio and cannot be rotated. Overall, the app is a complete waste of time and ruins an otherwise stellar package that is more reasonably priced than its competition. Thankfully, the app is not required to use and enjoy the JaxJox Dumbbell Connect. I’m hoping they’ll be able to work out the kinks in this app in the future. If I thought the app was absolutely critical, I'd give this review 3.5 stars.
I really like the Dumbbell Connect, and hope that it will provide many years of service. I’ve seen other reviewers report inoperable sets, so I’m going to keep an eye on this issue. I haven’t experienced anything like that so far. I’m enjoying this set very much, as long as I don’t try to use the app. I recommend it!

I’ve been in the market for these adjustable dumbbells for the longest time. I was getting tired of buying individual dumbbells with various weights crowding the floor, but never thought about these adjustable ones. Well, I gave in and was happy with JAXJOX‘s due to the app assisting me in my reps. After a few weeks of using it here are my thoughts.
The initial set up was pretty self explanatory and simple. Placing the individual weights and dumbbell on the base stations and then connecting them via the usb-c cables to a power source, and then allowing the app to locate them took only a few minutes. The app offers various workouts with instructors and also tracks your workout which was nice. More on this later.
Each individual weight is 3lbs, with it going up in increments of 6lbs; the lightest being 8 lbs. I’ve found it rather easy for this to adjust to your weight and you hear the motor connecting to the determined weight setting. The bottom is also flat so you don’t need to worry about them rolling away.
The app itself offers really helpful workout routines with different trainers. Unfortunately many of them are only accessible to a subscription. I feel maybe some of these should be available without a subscription. I also noticed that when lifting, the app did not fully count many of my reps. I had flashbacks of Basic Training when my Drill Sgt didn’t count my reps if done improperly. I still did it and followed Arnold Scwtaetzaneggar’s advice to only start counting when it begins to ache!
Overall, the JAXJOX is a great addition to my home gym.

1. Solid unit.
2. Was able to get connected and running in minutes. Have the app installed and turn on the bluetooth on your phone as well as in the app.
3. Build quality is good, besides the plastic around the handle and base.
4. USB cables are long enough as these units project to have a long battery life.
5. Rep count works, but the apps integrations are limited.

So the JAXJOX adjustable dumbell set is pretty cool and a great set for anyone working out at home. They look great and are adjustable to various weight levels, starting from 8lbs all the way up to 50lbs, increasing at 6lb intervals, and is done from either the base or the app. The JAXJOX app is free for most part and let's you pair up the dumbells or any other of their products. It's helps with planning and tracking your workouts when using the dumbells. There is also a Premium paid monthly subscription that gives you access to a bunch of workout classes and programs designed by trainers. The set uses a regular type-c cable to charge the base and thats great because you can buy those just about anywhere, in case you damage the ones that come included or if you need a longer cable to reach a your charging outlet.
Now there are only a few issues I saw when using these. 1st, with as much as these dumbells cost you'd think a charger box (USB outlet adapter) would come included. It is however a pretty small complaint since I have so many extras from my phone that I didn't need to buy one, still just seems like they could've thrown one in. 2nd, the dumbells need to be placed back onto the base just right or you'll misalign them and they won't charge or adjust. Its pretty dumb how easy it can happen even when trying to place them right. However even with this issue I never saw any problem with the weights or plates being loose or falling off or disconnecting.
Overall, I really like the JAXJOX dumbells they're a great priece of workout equipment and have the few bells and whistles that make them worth it when buying adjustable dumbells and or stuff for your home gym set up.

The weights themselves feel fantastic and function very well. The base stations and needing to place the weights down so gently can be a bit finicky but I'll happily deal with that in exchange for the space they save and the time they have saved me getting workouts in at home. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better set of adjustable dumbbells on the market and at this price point - even without the smart / app features this set includes. This is important. **In my opinion, this should be why you buy these weights.**
And yes - it is a set of 2 dumbbells, so 100 lbs total, thoughtfully packaged in one large box and shipped.
For those who are interested: The app needs work. There is a bug in the onboarding user flow that makes it seem like you need to subscribe to finish setting the dumbbells up (very not good!) This isn't actually the case - you can force quit the app and reopen it and you should get past the forced subscription ad... Please fix this! Just show us a teaser video or something and add a "Maybe later" option to dismiss.
The app has some weird connectivity issues with the dumbbells at times and I had to hard-reset them once to get them to reconnect. I lost a day of exercise logs from that but quickly realized that doesn't matter until the app is improved.
There are design flaws in the app that I won't go into here but I have faith that they will get this resolved now that they have some user data to work with and devices in the wild. Overall, this is a big step forward for the home/free weight market at a time where it matters.
I am eager to try the AI subscription and classes once the app greatly improves.
Buy the weights! Completely safe COVID exercise, thank you JAXJOX!

Good Hardware, Bad Software/App

I’ve been meaning to add some weight training to my mostly walking, biking and cardio routines and when the opportunity came to own and test the JAXJOX DumbbellConnect I went for it. Luckily I was home when FedEx delivered the package and I had them drop it in inside the garage - the box is heavy at ~ 110 lbs. Surprisingly it was well packed and not damaged at all. The hard foam packing made it easy to carry sections of the many weights in several trips upstairs.
The setup is pretty straight forward, just plug in the two plastic base trays to charge them with the provided USB-C cables, but no chargers provided. Then place all the additional weight plates in their slots on the trays and finally place the main dumbbell in its designated middle spot on the tray to charge. Overall the set feels well built, with a steel handle and plastic coated weights. The base has an LCD display in the middle with two buttons that allow you to electromechanically increase the weights from the base 8 lbs, in increments of 6lbs. Personally, I would have preferred increments/multiples of 5, but that’s not that’s just me.
Now onto the App, once you install it, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and proceed with detecting the dumbbells. It will ask you to create an account, and a confirmation email to complete the setup. It will also ask for some personal information like DOB?!, height, weight, etc to create a meaningful workout profile for you. The App claims it offers 100’s of workout programs and instructor led classes starting at $12.99/mo and offers a 30-day free trial, after which it’ll automatically start charging your credit card associated with your App store account - cancel anytime. There are a few skills demos you can watch for free without signing up. I tried a couple of the 5 skills included and the results varied wildly. So far none of the reps I tried were accurately represented in the App, so JaxJox needs to do a better job at calibrating their sensors and/or their software. At a minimum, I would like to be able to accurately record how many reps I did but that’s not happening...I know there is no way I did 4 sets of 15 reps in 1min 28sec...The only better thing about the App is that I was actually able to run it on my iPad and “strech out” the screen to almost go full screen for a more useful video watching experience.
Overall the hardware seems solid but time will tell how long the electromechanical mechanism that attaches the additional plates will function. The App seems nice, but it keeps recording wildly inaccurate reps, so that’s kind of a show stopper.

Great Idea, Bad Execution

Having just retired from a job that was very physical and I lifted hundreds of pounds a day I needed to break out the weights and start lifting to keep up my strength. I have a bench with those bench press and dumbbell bars that use the spinlock collars. It sure is a pain in the rear to keep spinning off the collars to change weights every time you want to add weight. So when I saw this JAXJOX - DumbbellConnect I had to have it.
The idea is brilliant. No need for collars to keep the weights on, now I can just press a button with the weights on the base and change my dumbbells' from 8 to 50 lbs each. That part is not the problem. It's making sure the weights in the plastic base are perfectly straight and connected to each other. Then you need to make sure the USB cord is connected to the base (which kept un-connecting). There is a lot of things that have to go right for you to get your workout in.
Then there's the crAPP. The app is a joke. I downloaded it from the play store, signed up. gave a little personnel info, Ht, Wt, age etc (which is completely unneeded) and connected to the base. Once connected it put me into a workout video page which froze the entire app and my phone. I had to go into my app setting to "force stop" the app and then sign in again. So after an hour of installing, uninstalling and unfreezing the app I thought I would give the weights a try.
The JAXJOX - DumbbellConnect are very good looking and compact and the weights are actually very easy to use. The one thing that actually worked on the app was being able to change the weight of the dumbbells from my phone. Very cool!. This option was the best for me because the other way to change the lbs is to push + or - on the display at the bottom of the base. You are basically having to kneel down or bend over to see the tiny display which is at ground level if the unit is on the floor (see pic). The weights also felt a little lighter than my metal dumbbells at the same weight but that might be the weight of the bar or collars on my metal set.
The last thing on the app that would be cool if it worked is the ability to track your workout. it suppose to keep your reps, sets, workout time etc. The only thing I got was the duration of my workout, the reps, sets and total weight was all at zero. Very frustrating as that would be nice to track on your phone.
If JaxJox were to improve the functionality of the base and the app these would be a great buy.

JAXJOX Dumbbell Connect- Adjustable Dumbbell Pair
Included- 1 pair of adjustable dumbbells, 2 bases, 2 USB-C cables
The JAXJOX Dumbbell Connect is great for using at home, especially during the pandemic right now when our gyms have been opening and closing multiple times. They're small and compact at about 30.5" x 10" x 21" and yet give you the flexibility of having 8 pounds up to 50 pounds, so 15 dumbbells in 1. All you need to do is have them sitting in their base, press the toggle up or down button to adjust the weight and it will automatically adjust to what you picked. The bar will extend or decrease in length and add or subtract the weights.
There is also a JAXJOX app that is helpful with your workouts. You can pair it with the dumbbells for an all-in-one workout experience. Once it's downloaded, enter in your details and it will personalize your profile for better results. The JAXJOX app offers a Skills Class. You can learn form and technique from expert coaches. You can track your workouts and see your results immediately. They also offer a premium version for $13/mo which offers live on-demand workouts that are customized.
The JAXJOX adjustable dumbells are so convenient to have when you can't hit the gym or don't feel like it. They are great for either beginners or someone more serious about their workouts. They're so easy to use since you just push a button. The one con is that some of the individual plates feel slightly loose when the weight moves around, which makes the heavier reps more difficult to do. But overall, it's nice to have the flexibility and convenience of them in your house. They're a great piece of equipment to have.

Best adjustable dumbbells I have used

In the age of Covid, getting a good workout in at home is definitely a challenge. I've used a few different sets of adjustable dumbbells in the past and they each vary in looks and ease of use. I currently have a set of simple ones that I just put plates on the ends and spin a threaded metal collar over the plates to secure them. These are about as inexpensive and low-tech as you can get. The drawbacks are that it takes forever to switch weights and I have to have different sized plates all over the floor.
Now the Jaxjox dumbbells simply have a display with + and - buttons built into the plastic base that holds them. Changing the weight is done with a press of a button. The handles have some sort of locking piston inside them that expands or contracts when you are decreasing weight. You can acutally hear it move when it is doing its' thing. Changing weight only takes about 5 seconds, very quick and easy. They also look pretty cool. Other adjustable dumbbells look like some sort of alien torture device.
The only issues I have with these dumbbells is that I feel that the handles are a little too thick. They are not hard to grip but if they were a little thinner, they would be more comfortable. Maybe I just have small hands. Also, plate aligment can be an issue at times when you are putting the dumbbells back into the base. Sometimes one of the plates will not line up correctly so you have to be somewhat careful when putting them away, (see photo). This can be problematic when you are fatigued after a heavy set.
Something I found strange is that the set comes with charging cables but not chargers so you will have to use one from your phone or other device. Not a huge deal and honestly most people should have some of these lying around but it can be inconvenient if you have to unplug your phone to charge these dumbbells. Battery life is pretty good though. A full charge on these lasted me about 2 weeks.
I wish the dumbbells went higher in weight. 50 lbs just isn't enough to work the big muscles effectively. But they work well for most of what I do. Also, picking 50 dumbbells up off the floor might be an issue for people with back problems. It would be better to put these on some sort of stand or platform.
