    Best Headphones I've Owned

    Posted

I've been on the lookout for a great pair of Bluetooth headphones for a long time. I don't use them that much for athletics, I use them mostly when I'm working, so I needed a pair that was comfortable, had great sound, held a charge, and were easy to use. The Jaybird Freedom headset does all of that and more. When I opened the box I was immediately impressed with the included materials. I loved being able to try out different configurations of the ear tips and wings. It didn't take long to find a fit that worked perfectly. The buds sit deeply and securely while remaining comfortable. They also do a fantastic job at blocking other sounds. Speaking of the sound, it's outstanding. The bass is deep, the high notes are crisp, and there's all the volume you could ever want. I'm usually a fan of over-the-ear headphones as opposed to earbuds, but these have changed my mind. The only con I've found so far is that it was a bit difficult to pair the headphones to my computer with my Bluetooth dongle. It's not a problem with the headphones, though. I just had a tough time finding the right universal driver. Once I did, they worked perfectly. To summarize, I love these, and I plan on using them as my primary headphones for a long time to come. As a disclaimer, I was provided with a free product for my honest review. As a headphone aficionado, however, my opinions are my own and are not influenced by Jaybird or their affiliates.

Better off getting a cheaper pair

I use wireless headphones because it is the easiest way to bike without worrying about a cord getting in my way. I have used wireless earbuds from $20 to $100, so I know the range of quality in the market. I bought these when they were marked down to $40. The sound quality is great, but you can honestly get the same quality in the $50 range. The battery leaves much to be desired at this price, as I ran through it in one day of on and off listening - most others allow for at least 3 days of that much. The real deal breaker? The design. The little wings that are removable are uncomfortable and do little to keep the bud in your ear (at all sizes). I removed them, but the earbuds simply wouldn't stay in my ears. The volume control is heavy and swings back and forth, exacerbating the problem. Also, the smaller size of the part that actually goes into your ear fails to stay on the end, making the larger option the only choice. It's not a matter of convenience, it's a matter of usability. You are better off with saving money and buying Skullcandy. If you want to pay more, Bose or Beats are way better bang for buck. Side note: When you turn them on, you get this obnoxious 2 second instrumental noise that is unnecessary. I wish that I could return these, but I threw out the packaging. I'm just going to sell them off to a friend and buy a cheaper, more useful pair.

So much better than the Bose

I typically don't take time to write reviews, but felt the need after going through 2 pair of the Bose wireless earbuds in less than 2 weeks. Not only is the sound on the Freedoms by far the best for wireless earbuds (Or wired for that matter) but they are 100% sweat resistant. The equalizer allows you to customize your listening experience depending on the genre of music and produces better low and mid range vs any other earbuds on the market (wired or wireless). All I can say is thank you to Bose for indirectly introducing me to these as the Jaybirds are a must for any athlete/avid runner that builds up a considerable sweat and wants to go wire free. Some say the controls add weight to to the right side of the headphones but I can honestly say that I don't feel that way at all, even with the portable charger attached. Best sound options come with the silicone tips and the ear fins. Although this is my first pair (been a Bose supporter for years), I am hooked on the Jaybirds. I do wish the battery life was slightly extended, but a small price to pay given the SUPERIOR sound quality and customizable options with fit and sound. Like some, I did not receive a free pair to write a review, so this is 100% unbiased.

    Great for gaming, too

I’m not much of an athlete but I’m a huge gamer. Unfortunately, any over-the-ear headphones tend to smash my giant ears pretty harshly after any extended gaming session. So when I got these earbuds I wanted to test how comfortable they were for the marathon sessions as well as the quality of the sound. So, for the extended play session, I took the opportunity to get caught up on some Diablo 3 seasonal play. (Season 6 has been well underway for a while and I have some real catching up to do.) They come with a choice of earbud tips, and I used the spongy ones and was able to comfortably play for hours. The sound was great on Diablo, but I wanted to test them on some games that relied on more ambient sounds to create a definite mood, so I pulled out the old Alien: Isolation. It’s a great game, and the clear sounds made it a whole new experience for me (since I had only used speakers previously). Just for good measure I also tried them on the most recent Dark Souls and found that to be a great use of the sound quality, too. So, long story short: these are not my official go-to headphones for gaming. "Full disclosure: I was provided with a free product for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and are not influenced by Jaybird or their affiliates in any way."

Great sound, bad fit, remote too bulky

Don't get me wrong, these sound awesome especially with upgraded Comply Comfort (not the included Comply Sport) tips. I will say there is a spot in the volume where it is either too loud or too quiet but I would overlook this if they fit better. I can not get these to stay in my ears. I did purchase some Comply Comfort tips and it helps a lot but still not able to keep them in my ears during a work out. Impossible to stay in during a run. I have tried every possible combination of tips, wings and orientation but they just don't stay in the ear. These did work good for travel as you are not bouncing about like you do during a work out. The remote is too heavy on one side, you defiantly feel the weight and this is the most troublesome side to keep in the ear. I think Jaybird should have balanced out the weight with remote on one side and battery on the other. This is most noticeable when the cord is positioned behind your neck, all the slack from the non-remote side is taken and then there is too much slack on the remote side. If you are looking for some headphones for activities I would pass and try the Powerbeats, but if you want a killer sounding earphone and that is it then look no further. These do fit under my snowboard helmet which is nice. I have not used them on a hill yet, but I did leave my helmet on with these in and I did not feel pressure. They may shine when I get to use them when snowboarding because the helme pads will help keep them in.

Small size, good audio - bad voice quality

I was excited to get these as they are so much smaller that other competing in-ear headphones. The Jaybird X's stick out too far from your ears and the LG Tones have the neckband. After trying the different tips (silicon wouldn't stay, foam was too scratchy), I ultimately settled on the tips from my old Bose IE headphones. While these tips are not made for the Jaybirds, they stayed on and improved the fit for me. I ultimately returned these for two reasons, especially considering the high-price: 1) Voice call quality is pretty poor. With no noise/echo cancellation on my end it is not great for taking calls. In some ways the microphone is too sensitive as it picked up my breathing and cable knocking on the mic whereas my normal LG Tone have neither of these issues. 2) Audio delay - watch a movie/video and you get the dreaded audio sync issue where the audio is delayed from the action on the screen. This is likely due to the audio processing it is doing (couldn't find a way to turn that off) as my LGs did not have this issue. If the above two items are not issues for you, then these are great headphones. Small and light - didn't even mind the bulky charger/battery extender. At this point, am looking forward to trying the upcoming Bose InEar QC30s as they look to improve the voice call quality (and coming from the LGs, I don't mind the neckband).

Worst product ever. I Purchased these to use while running, I run a LOT and these were promoted as sweat proof. First pair worked for about six months, then abruptly stopped working. Called Logitech and customer service shipped me a replacement pair. First replacement worked for about two months, then same result... Just stopped working. Called customer service again and they agreed to ship a second replacement. The customer service rep let it slip that they had a LOT of complaints about these with the same problem and their engineers were trying to find out why they had such a high failure rate. Second replacement failed on the first run.... Called customer service AGAIN and this time they shipped me an X4 headset. but they said this was the last replacement they would send..... the X4's failed on the second use.... Four sets, and four failures... these are serous JUNK! Do yourself a favor and google "Jaybird Freedom Failure", you'll find a LOT of complaints about the same issue.....I wish I had done that research before wasting my money on these.

I'd been considering purchasing these earbuds for quite some time as I was very happy with the x2's, but wanted something a bit more streamlined for comfort/appearance. Unforturnately, my set came packaged with 3 medium earbuds and 1 large and, of course, I require the large for proper fit. My email contact with customer support was answered within 2 days, and asked for the standard info (shipping address, color of product) but also required a scan of the receipt and "Furthermore, please include photos of the device's original packaging and its contents. Thank you" Seriously? You think I would make the effort to reach out to Jaybird so I could defraud them for the cost of a large set of earcups (and postage)?First off, this was received as a gift. Second, why on earth would I take the time to lay out all of the packaging and contents to photograph when all I need is a set of large earcups? If this was my company, I wouldn't be spending money on customer support people that would waste time/effort on reviewing requests for earcups... For the cost to the company, Jaybird would be better off sending free earcups to all their customers annually and firing the support staff. We would all end up ahead. Instead of complying with the customer support request, I felt my time would be better used writing a review so others are aware of the customer support they can expect if they run into problems with the product.

Battery life never made it to the 8 hrs it claims up to for me. The manual shows sound pressure vs charge but how is one to know what pressure they are at?? So within the first 20 min it went from 98% to 76%. After that it was about an hour to 50%. Mind you i do like my music loud So I can see I'll never get the full 8 hours. But this would have been good info to have online in the descriptions to help aid in my purchase decisions. So here it is in my review to help others. And as for as loud as it goes, im use to louder with wired headphones. But the app you download with the product is great in evening out the sound and making it a bit louder. Range cut out within 30ft- 40ft. Not sure if that's good or bad for a Bluetooth headphone. There is no specifications online or in manual for that and this being my first pair of Bluetooth headphones I am not sure what other similar products are capable of. But overall id say its a good buy for the sale price of $50. Oh and the reviews about the volume bar being heavy any weighing it down. Complete b.s lol. Unless their ear holes are the size of quarters I don't see how they are falling out with the buds and the wings to hold them in. I shook my head and jumped around just to test it out. Perfect fit not u uncomfortable at all.

I used to buy Jaybirds because they are "sweatproof." My original Bluebuds X are still going strong after about 4 years. These new ones from Jaybird died from me sweating. They work fine dry. Then once I start sweating then they shut off, over and over... This started about a month and a half ago. Since I had registered them through jaybird's website for the warranty I figured I would write a review afterwards. Well jaybird's support said it was the battery through chat help. I use technology everyday and consider myself tech savy as I jailbreak things all of the time and fix electronics and computers all of the time. The lady on the chat didn't want to hear the issue. She said it was from overcharging them and wouldn't hear it when I explained my older jaybirds were still going strong being charged the same way. Another issue I found was while doing certain movements the sound cuts out. I have moved on to some other sweatproof Ankers for a better price and DON'T cut out doing the same exercises for about 1/6 of the price! I will not be going back to Jaybird with the terrible support they have and the fact the headphones stopped working after 6 months.

So I've read some of these reviews and I'm really concerned about how some of these negative people and how they function in todays society. Jeez. One person complained that the charger if left clipped on weighed too much. It weighs exactly 2.1 ounces. If you can't deal with that on the wire then you need HELP. I was a professional DJ for 18+ years. I used only Pioneer Pro DJ headphones. Mine could take 3.5 watts which is a ton straight to your ear. Well these Freedom's are almost that level but in defense for the Jaybirds, these are ear buds and not over the ear headphones. I think they sound amazing. The connectivity is pretty darn good. Flakes sometimes but I believe it's my phone more than not. I've even used Shure in ear monitors that cost $500 before and these are elite like those. Cool thing is you can thread them through any Nike shirt with a headphone loop sewn in back. PS> If your not hearing enough bass then you have not fitted them right. You have to get them to fill up your ear hole so move up to a larger ear tip if necessary. Also do not allow the ear wing to touch the tip. You need to slide the ear wing back 1/8 inch from the ear tip this should almost force the tip further into your ear hole and in hopes for the tip to get a good seal. When this all comes together you will hear the BASS drop. Ah---Heaven... Enjoy!!!

First off, sound quality if mixed correctly using either their Android or iOS app is impressive considering the size. They are also extremely comfortable once again because of their size, however the size and design of the ear buds can be a problem, they're so small that the ear tips are very obviously made for the earbuds and mine keep falling off, so after repeated insertion of the silicon tips they no longer stay on the earbud in fact I removed an earbud only to realize I left the silicon tip in my ear, thankfully I was able to remove it with a pair of tweezers. I don't think the silicon tip issue is a common problem but I mention it because its a possibility with these earbuds, and I never experienced anything like it before even with the Jaybird x2. And finally battery life, I've gotten about 6 hours of almost constant use with a single charge, so the 4 hours of constant playback is realistic, the good thing is the charging cradle has a built in battery and you can use them while they charge, the bad thing is you can also loose the charging cradle and I'm not sure where you'd buy a new one or for how much. Overall even with these issues I don't regret buying these earbuds, but I also look forward to the Jaybirds x3 to see how those compare.

    Died after 3 weeks

I used them mainly to run 3-4 miles 4 times a week. First of all, they constantly kept falling out no matter what setup I used. As other people have stated the mic is heavy which causes a constant tug on the right ear. So as soon as you start sweating they have trouble staying in. Plus the cord sticks to your neck so when you turn your head to check for traffic this would also pull on the earbuds causing them to slip out. After 3 weeks of use and during my run the left earbud got staticky and then a few minutes later the whole headset just died. My guess is it had to do with sweat possibly shorting it out. For $200 I expected a better design and for it to last longer than 3 weeks. The sound is great and they do a great job blocking out sound. So great for mowing the lawn but in my opinion not good for running. My previous headset was the Jabra Sports Pulse which also had issues with them dying and not working after a few months of use but I never had issues with them not staying on. In either case I recommend getting the service plan because you will use it. I've had a pair of wired Shure ear buds for 5 years now which still work great no matter how much sweat they go through. I wish I could fine a wireless product that worked just as well.

I like these headphones. The sound is good and they are very light, after a while you would hardly notice them. Batteries last long enough for decent workout. 2 stars are deducted for 2 issues that bugged me big way: 1) I paid over 200 USD, but the right earphone initially kept falling out of my right ear. Reason Nr. 1: the battery is attached closer to the right side of the cable, it is only logical that this side tends to drop out of the ear. To fix this Jaybird offers hooks to put them around your ear lobe. Brilliant idea, but you have to order them separately as part of an accessory package through their web shop: that was 10 USD for the accessory package and 10 USD for expedited shipping. 20 USD for 2 items that maybe cost 1 to 4 USD. Why could they not be included in the original box? 2) The instructions delivered with the headphones consist of a few pictures and I found them misleading. It took me some time to work out how the battery package worked. I turned to Jaybird's website to search for the manual and found it after a while. I did not expect full instructions to be included in the box, but with any products the first hours when you open and test your purchase are the crucial ones. It took me too long to get the headphones working when a little more detailed manual would have made all the difference.

I reviewed these and the Bose before purchasing these. I've owned Bose before and loved them but ultimately the smaller ear pieces on these persuaded me. They work great. I have worn them and walked all over my house without loss of signal. I use them at the pool too. I leave my phone on my table and use these while floating, they work great, even up to the other side of the pool. They are not completely noise cancelling but they do reduce it greatly. The pool blasts country music, hence the need for ear buds and I can eliminate that noise without having to blast my music. I can keep it at mid-range and still cancel out the other music. They connect easily. The only flaws (and this is the only reason they didn't get 5 stars) I see are that they sometimes turn on when just in my purse. I believe this is due to the button being depressed with things shifting around. That can be a problem though because it can drain the battery. It could also be eliminated with a harder earbud case. The only other flaw is that when I wear them with the wire going behind my head, the microphone piece has to be brought around to my mouth for a phone call or the person I'm speaking to has trouble hearing me. Their main purpose though is for music and they work excellent for that. I would do 4.5 stars but that is not an option.

    Great Sound - Awkward Fit

I also have the Jaybird X2's which I've been pleased with. These new earbuds sound even better, especially using the companion app to tweak the sound. The fit though is not so great, at least for me. The volume control module is heavy enough to weigh down on the right side, resulting in the need to periodically push the right earbud back in. If I wrap the cord around my ear, the volume control flops around between my ear and head enough to annoy. When worn this way, the cord is a bit stiff so on the left side it continually 'unwraps' and the cord pops out from behind the the ear. As good as they sound, the issues with fit and comfort will have me returning them -- I'll definitely try again when the 2nd generation of this style comes out, the product's design engineers will surely come out with something more practical.

I currently use wired Monster Gold Turbine ear buds which I love. Wanting to also have a wireless option, I decided that for the price I couldn’t go wrong with F5 Special Edition and picked up a pair ( for $49 they seemed like a good deal no matter what). Well for $49 this is an incredible steal. Out of the box I was not impressed with the sound and thought that for the price they were OK. Then I downloaded the app, which allowed me to customize the sound shape and they now sound as good as any pair I tested (including the Bose and 3x the price). For the special edition price you only get 3 pairs and of silicone ear tips (which fits most needs), otherwise the same product that lists for $149 (and I have a ton of tips from my Monster buds that are interchangeable). Battery life is good and can last a cross country flight (I did have to use the small battery pack about 2/3s across). I still use my Monsters for long use, but my new F5’s are my new go to. If you don’t mind the small effort to download the app and customize your sound (there are also customized that other users have shared that you can download.....I’ve put up about a half a dozen myself) you cannot go wrong with this purchase.

I got these on sale as backup for my X3's and overall they're good. Sound: The sound on all the Jaybird stuff I've had is fantastic and this one is no exception. No distortion at high volumes and full rich tone. I'm no audiophile, but I'm pickier than most and they're awesome. Fit: This is where they fall down a little bit. The controls contain the battery so it's heavy and it bothers me UNLESS I wear them over the ear and with the ear fins. With a little trial and error, you'll get a good fit. I also don't like the round wire (X3's have a flat wire and it's great) as it twists and stays twisted too easily. You can work it back to not, but if I had paid full retail for this, I'd be upset. Battery/Connection: The battery is average (4hrs-ish) and the signal stability is ok. I don't lose signal unless I have the phone on the opposite side of my body which is normal for me. I don't think it's normal for most people, but I figured I should just throw it out there. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to comment and ask. Actual reviews are the best source for making purchase decisions.

I was looking to buy a wireless earphones, but also I was considering with a good bass, so my options were limited to only powerbeats, then a look a this earphones and I was no sure about the sound quality and bass, I bought them and I couldn't be happier with this item, obviously you have to download the app to play with the EQ, once you chose whatever you like or build your own EQ, the sound stays like that no matter if you use the earphones on another device, that's a plus since you don't have that feature on beats, it's like you have better bass than beats and the Bose sound quality, the reason I don't give 5 stars is because jaybird said the battery is about 8 hours, but is not totally true, the earphones battery it's about 4 hours depending the genre or bass, in order to get the 8 hours you have to attach the extended battery charger, don't mention if that little piece got lost, there's no way you can charge the earphones, but hey, nothing is perfect yet, I highly recommend this wireless earphones

Purchased the Jaybird Freedom wireless earbuds as a replacement for my existing Sony Extra Bass wired earbuds. They had clear good sound for what I did hear. The first problem was they wouldn't charge past 20%, customer service after a full day got back to me and told me to perform a total reset. After they did charge, the next problem was they wouldn't connect to my Ipod, once again customer service waited another full day and told me about a specific sequence for connecting them. The last problem was audio stuttering where the headphones would stop and start the sound continually. At this point, I contacted customer support on the phone and they were very casual in their response to have me take them back to Best Buy for a refund. This all took place in a total of 9 days. When I returned them to Best Buy I was given the utmost consideration, support, and professionalism by the person in customer service. There was no pushback to return the earbuds and the customer service professional was not only understanding but genuinely wanted to know about my experience. Great job Best Buy, Jaybird I would definitely stay away from at all cost.
