These are very near field speakers, if your head is more than 4 feet away they are very weak. Thin sounding, you can do a lot better for the money. I paid 219, I see they have slashed the price now due to everyone returning them. I just wanted a little bedroom dresser stereo and these are not it. From 8 feet away they sound like something you got at Big Lots for 25 bucks. But they are heavy, so the weight will fool you into thinking you have something better. I don't expect bass from small speakers but these have none.

    Versatile Quality Desktop Sound

When I first ordered these I didn’t realize how big they would be, they are on the larger size at about 10 inches in height. What also comes with the size is heft, the JBL 104 BT Studio Monitor Speakers feel and look like a quality set of speakers. In the box you have the speakers (one Master Speaker and one Extension speaker), a power cord, a length of speaker wire to wire the extension to the master and a 3.5mm to RCA cord for connection to a PC and the master speaker. There are also 1/4 in TRS Inputs on the master speaker for connection of a monitor station etc. Another feature that adds to the versatility of the JBL 104 BT Studio Monitor Speakers is the fact that they have Bluetooth connectivity. I plugged the Master in, I ran my PC 3.5mm to RCA to the Master Speaker and wired the extension speaker to the master speaker. I needed to use my own wire as the wire provided was only about 6.5 feet and I needed 8 feet. The sound produced with the JBL 104 BT Studio Monitor Speakers coaxial drivers using my PC as the source with games, videos and movies was fantastic! Bass was rich (sometimes on the boomy side) and the overall sound was just pleasing to the ears. I paired the JBL 104 BT Studio Monitor Speakers with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and they played music via bluetooth effortlessly and sounded great. A cool feature making these some of the most versatile speakers I have seen is the fact that you can have up to 3 hard wired sources and bluetooth so all four sources can be listened to (one at a time) with no switching required. Versatility, quality, and great sound all in one package, I definitely recommend the JBL 104 BT Studio Monitor Speakers.

    Decent Near-Field Monitors

I've been in the market for some small but powerful desktop monitors and had an opportunity to check these out. So far I've been happy with them with some tweaks. My first use was on my desktop with my gaming laptop, which I use for both gaming and listening to music when I'm at the desk. The signal path was laptop>USB>SMSL DAC X6>Line Out>JBL speakers. The JBLs were excellent for both gaming and music with a little tweaking with an EQ (I use the Peace desktop EQ on Windows 11) to bring out the bass and drop the mids a bit. Mids are very forward, but not in a bad way. They are just not exactly neutral. Games had decent rumble and music was overall very nice to listen to. Separation was great with the speakers at arms length as suggested in the directions. I like that the connection from the active speaker to the passive one uses a standard (included) 2-element speaker cable so you can customize the length and aren't constrained by a built-in cable. I have a 32:9 ultrawide monitor and its hard to find speakers that can spread out wide enough with a built-in cable. The back has a couple inputs, namely RCA stereo and dual mono 1/4 jacks. These also have decent Bluetooth connectivity. One really great feature is that you can select an individual input or all of them at the same time, including the BT sound. I've also used these to listen to the output of my Mooer desktop guitar effects processor using the 1/4 inch jacks. Because I'm able to mix that signal with the Bluetooth it makes it perfect for playing along with music from my phone. There's also a headphone jack for late nights where I want to play guitar or games and not wake up the rest of the house. Build quality is superb. They have some heft to them so any distortion is kept to a minimum. They're just the right size for desktop use and look good next to a computer monitor without taking up too much space or looking comically small. Also, thank you, JBL, for using a standard power cord rather than an outboard AC adaptor! I would highly recommend these for a small-space music production desk or even for serious gaming. My only wish would to add a sub-woofer output to give me the option to add a little more low-end.

There is a major difference between these monitor speakers and your typical computer speakers. Starting with the versatility, these will work with computers and wirelessly to connect to any device with Bluetooth capabilities. The front selector switch allows to change between input methods, but also boasts an “all input” selection to automatically detect the sound source. The sources can be used simultaneously to play two sources at once. This is especially handy for anyone with a recording setup. I was able to play through my laptop at the same time that my phone was connected through a Bluetooth connection. There is an auxiliary in port as well as a headphone jack on the front of the primary speaker. The sound is very deep and rich and these will put out a lot of volume for such a small speaker. The bass is surprisingly deep and blends well with a nice crisp treble sound. The two speakers need to be connected with the included wire and do not operate independently of one another. It will work with just speaker if the two are not connected. The package comes with the cables necessary to connect to a computer.

I was very impressed when I opened the box as they were larger than anticipated and heavier than anticipated. I expected bigger sound than what comes out of them, particularly bass which is a bit boomy and not tight like you would expect from a sub-woofer. Mid-rand and highs are just OK, but not great. I love the connection options and am currently using the Bluetooth option. This is selectable on the front of the right speaker along with a knob to change volume. They have an appropriately powered built-in amp that drives both speakers nicely. The two speakers are connected with a speaker cable. The instruction sheet is minimal, but there is not much to this if you have any sense at all - just connect the two speakers together with the speaker cable, plug in the power, and select the input. I found Bluetooth to be fine for my use. Other say it lags, but I have not experienced that effect and it works fine for me. I suppose that my expectations for sound were too high since it is just a two-speaker set and does not include a separate sub-woofer, but the weight and size led me to expect something more that it delivers. They are a pretty good set of computer speakers, but I certainly would not put them in the category of reference speakers. If you are using them for everyday use as computer speakers and not listening to music critically, they will fit the bill for you but temper your expectations. They go into sleep mode when I take a break or turn off the computer at night and automatically wake up when resuming use or restarting the computer each morning. Set them once and forget them - a good, but not great set of computer speakers.

Overall I think these are good to great speakers. Not perfect but still exceeded my expectations. They are big and heavy so keep that in mind when envisioning placement. They can get very loud without distortion, though I didn't want to risk pushing them to the limit to see just how loud they could get. Setup is dead simple - plug the master into power and then connect the master to the secondary via the included speaker cable. There are multiple way to connect them to your source - the one I've used is bluetooth. Both my phone and Mac recognized the bluetooth broadcast easily and connected without a hitch. Sound quality is pretty amazing, almost too good. I'm not sure I know of a situation for a pair of desktop speakers to need to be cranked so loud. One is literally sitting right in front of them but I guess if you're really using them as reference monitors then maybe you would have an appropriate use case scenario. I haven't yet tried the other connection methods so can't comment on those, but I'm sure they would work just as easily as the bluetooth connection

The JBL 2.0 Desktop Reference Monitor Speakers took my office/podcast studio to the next level! I have to make podcasts for work and these definitely help the process. I always like to know that my listeners are getting the best possible product. The only way to do that is to listen to the product aloud! These speakers are large. If you do not have a decent sized disk, you may not have enough room for them. They come with several wires, including a power wire, traditional speaker wires (for connecting the two speakers to each other, and an adapter that is part RCA and part stereo jack. There was no setup in terms of connecting them to my PC. Just plug and play. The bluetooth pairing process was super easy for using the speaker's built-in bluetooth option. After I got the speakers all connected, I hit the power button located on the back side of the main speaker, and they fired right up! There is a selection button that allows the user to specifically choose what input source they want (such as bluetooth, aux, rca, etc). There is also a volume knob that lights up. These lights go dim when the speakers have not been adjusted for awhile. There is also a connection on the back for regular instrument cables. I cannot wait to try these with my audio interface! The sound quality is amazing! For these to be desktop speakers, I wouldn't hesitate to use them on any important project that requires me to ensure I am putting out the best audio product. The bass is great and the speakers provide clear, crisp quality! Buy them, you won't regret it!

    Multiple Inputs - Great Sound

So right out of the box I was impressed with their size. They were bigger than I was originally thinking, but their size does not impact my setup. I use these with my gaming setup at home so they had plenty of room next to my monitors. You will want to note that the surface is slick, so be sure you have a strong grip on them by taking them out of the box and placing them on your table. Could be easy to drop if you are not paying attention. Next you will want to note that the main speaker, the default right, is the one with all the inputs on the back, and the volume dial on the front. They are not marked, so knowing this before you place them is handy. These are 2.0 speakers, no surround sound. You have 4 primary input options, There is a toggle button on the front of the main speaker that will allow you to quickly and easily switch between the sources, and bonus you even get an ALL option so you can hear them all at once. I initially connected these via bluetooth to my computer, I was hoping to be able to go wireless. The sound is really good, but as with Bluetooth there can be a slight delay between images on the screen and the sound that is accompanies then. So music would be a good source for bluetooth. Next I plugged in the included 4.5mm to RCA cable to the audio output on my computer. Now the sound was more in sync with the image on the screen. I enjoy being able to connect multiple devices, especially bluetooth, and to switch easily between them. The placement of the input button is nice, on the front next to the volume dial. I am very happy with these speakers and look forward to using them with my gaming system.

Powerful, need some mixing and EQ

First, these speakers are VERY powerful. They have a good look and feel on my desktop, and they connect pretty seamlessly --- though it did take a few attempts to get them to connect to my bluetooth, but that's pretty normal. Nonetheless, I do think it needs a teeny bit of mixing to get the best bass to the sound. The activation takes an extra bit of time often; kind of like a delay. One important thing to take note of, these are NOT meant for general listening or like party speakers --- their purpose is really just for reference only. Again, these are not designed to fill a room with sound, so don't purchase expecting modified sound or EQed music (for context, other speakers meant for entertainment listening are designed to automatically modify the sound for enjoyable listening). These speakers provide the basic minimum sound meant for you to EQ it to your preference. They also have multiple input functionality so you can use the selector tool to switch between inputs, which is really useful. For their purpose, functionality, and solid sound, YET the frequent issues with the bluetooth connectivity, I give this a solid 4 stars.

The JBL 104-BT is a set of compact desktop monitor pair with excellent sound and lots of flexibility. Whether you can use them as a reference monitor to edit your sound creations depends on what you’re really looking for. The ovoid-shaped 104-BT speakers look great on a desk, with a unique profile and minimal fuss on the front. They accept input from a variety of sources, including standard RCA jacks (mini-to-RCA cable included), balanced TRS, and, as the BT in the name implies, Bluetooth. The amplifier, inputs, and controls all sit in the left speaker, with the passive right speaker connected via a shielded wire pair. While the included wire connector should work for most situations, if you require more distance any wires will work. Build quality is typical JBL, that is to say, very solid. When used as a desktop sound system for your PC or tablet, the 104-BT sounds great, particularly at higher volumes. Lows are clear (down to the 60Hz cutoff), mids are clean, and highs are crisp. There is no muddiness to the bass or lower-mid ranges like you find in a lot of lower-priced monitors. Overall, the sound is balanced, without the v-shape equalization present in many competitors. The 104-BT would likely be a step up from your current computer speaker setup. As a reference monitor, they are quite nice for the price. Using them this way, I connected a guitar through a mini-amp to them and was surprised at how solid the sound was. Connecting a digital synth from my computer yielded similar results. When editing more complex, multi-instrument sounds, there is a loss of clarity from these as compared to a full-sized reference monitor set or a pair of audiophile headphones. Still, compared to other monitors in this price range, they sound great, and the size makes them quite portable. Overall, the 104-BT is an excellent choice for a portable, low-cost reference monitor or simply as an upgrade to your current computer sound.

I honestly love the sound from these deceptively small speakers. Thrilling blend throughout the audible spectrum with clear highs, mellow midrange, and even respectable, if not deep, bass. The overall package is a bit on the unusual side. In an age of remotes and wi-fi, this pair of speakers must be connected by a physical speaker cable (with the one provided or one of your own devising). The unit has no remote, so you must manually switch it to the proper input type: RCA, Bluetooth, etc. Although there is an ALL setting that detects whichever input is active, I had a few issues where it dropped out even though there was only a single RCA input active. I did not have any issues when I manually selected the input. I was only able to try RCA and BT inputs and both worked flawlessly and sounded spectacular. There is a mode for hooking it up as a studio monitor, as well It easily sounded as good (and in some instances better) than the 5.1 sound bar I compared to it. A little less bass than the sound bar, but gorgeous mid range and treble making music lovely and dialogue crisp and clear. I tried to pair the device with my AVR via BT, but could not get them to pair. Pairing with my phone worked great and likely would any BT equipped computing device. Since it is promoted as a reference PC desktop speaker or monitor, then used either way will it produce unbelievably good sound for you. It can also get very loud, if that is needed. Highly recommended this item.

These desktop monitors are great and sound outstanding! Opening the box and the set comes with the two speakers (a "master" speaker and an "extension" speaker), a power cable, some speaker wire, and a 3.5mm audio cable. The instructions call for the speakers to be placed at arms length on either side of your computer monitor. Your options for inputs are either via a 3.5 mm audio jack on the front of the speakers, connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth, or by utilizing the high level and low level inputs on the back. The high level input is for plugging in a monitor station with TRS cables or low level input using RCA. On the front of the master speaker is the volume knob, aux input, headphone jack, and a selector knob that allows you to choose from one of the variety of inputs or you can choose all and monitor all inputs at once! The sound quality is exactly what you would expect from JBL. My son says these speakers give his games a real pop now, and he even forgoes the use of his headphones sometimes! We like these speakers very much and have no reservations recommending them.

Overall, these are great speakers and most will probably like them. There are a couple of things that I believe hold them back acoustically, but for around $200 they’re a solid pair and most likely better than anything you’d currently be using. Let’s start with the good: The speakers look great and have a great form factor. They’re slightly unusual and modern in shape which helps with wanting to buy them and display them. Setting them up was fairly straightforward, though you may want to know that you have to connect speaker wires to both speakers to get LR channel to work properly. Not unheard of, but if you were looking for true wireless you may want to look elsewhere. Once they’re set up, and they do require a power outlet for constant power draw, you’re pretty much ready to go. You have the option to switch outputs on the fly, meaning you can easily change between wireless Bluetooth from your phone or laptop, or onboard desktop pretty seamlessly. I found this feature to be nice and easy to use. Now, for the sound. If you’re familiar with JBL as a company, you may have an idea of what the sonic profile is going for; that is, a very clear, concise soundstage with little warmth and depth. The detail is great, but the low end leaves a lot to be desired. The high end features a slightly metal sound, sort of like Klipsch with its aluminum tweeter design, but again these are small drivers. These have the “Professional” monitor marketing on them, alluding that these are catered more towards folks who prefer a good, clean sound, rather than top to bottom clarity, depth, and some bass to round it out. Unfrontetely, I don’t believe that there is a way to tweak the EQ of the sound, which is a bummer to me. You can, of course, do it through your preferred player or amp, but a few onboard settings may have been nice. Overall, I think these are solid speakers and produce a good enough sound for the price to recommend them. Just know these aren’t punching too far above their weight.
