Let me start off by saying that I am not an expert when it comes to sound systems, however, I do not settle for average electronics and I do my research and in store testing before making a purchasing decision. I had an itch to update my 3 year old Sony sound bar which by the way sounds pretty good but was lacking that cinematic sounding punch! So since I own and love Samsung TV's I thought I would match my series 8500 with a better sound bar. I purchased the M450 sound bar which features the 2.1 setup has 4 built in speakers & one 7" subwoofer that puts out 320W total output. Already by specs alone this had my current Sony sound bar left in the dust. Brought it home and my 1st impression was a disappointment. It sounded flat and had very minimal bass. I even had to check several times to make sure it was plugged in. I played with all the settings and despite wanted to support Samsung products, I could not live with a product that cost more and performed less than my current Sony sound bar. Back to Best Buy I go and test a few other sound bars and decided to give Samsung one more chance. I upgraded to the M550 which features the 3.1 set up and comes with 6 built in speakers and the same 7" woofer also increasing the output to 340W. Okay, I paid $100 extra for this unit but I was determined to stay with Samsung and keep my overall expenses under $300, which I did. I connected everything and configured the set up, it was a slight improvement over the M450, and however, once again, something is missing?!?! Although more sound was apparent because of the middle speakers, it still had a flat sound to it and what the heck is up with this subwoofer? It lacked punch, clarity, and at times seemed like it was not on. At this point, I was convinced that Samsung should only stick to making TV's, Blu-ray players and maybe some appliances. They have no business making sound system because from what I have seen and experienced, they are horrible. I did some more research on Best Buy's site and narrowed my selection based on price, specs and reviews to the JBL 2.1 & 3.1 sound bars. I was ready to exchange my Samsung yet again for the 2.1 JBL and noticed the price for the 3.1 was on special for $399 and had a feeling this was going to be a winner. I went home and again plugged everything in and crossed my fingers. SUCCESS!!! The difference was night and day compared to anything I have purchase in the past. Clear and crisp sound came out from the 9 speaker sound bar and a clean smooth thump from the subwoofer located next to my sofa. I was extremely impressed and instantly became a JBL fan! The real test came when my 4 year old daughter kept looking up at me as she was playing with her dolls in the living room asking who was walking in the house. I told her it is coming from the TV, she was still confused. Then she looked around and asked who is downstairs talking? Again, I told her it is the TV, and then the thumb! She ran and jumped on me (no joke) and said it is thundering outside... Yup, I selected a winner!

    Finally A Soundbar worth buying!

I have to start off by saying I was floored when I heard this unit in the store. I have had an A/V addiction my whole adult life and finally moved up in the world and bought a 4K today on Black Friday. I was in need of a simple, clean solution for my TV in the living room. I have serious audio equipment downstairs in my Theater, so I didn't need anything crazy because I do most of my movie watching downstairs. I settled on a soundbar for the simple and clean presentation. I required something that had 4k passthrough and had some bass impact as a lack of bass would turn me off from even buying a soundbar. Instantly there were three options that suited me, the JBL SB-450, the JBL Bar 3.1, and the Klipsch RSB-11. I listened to all in store. I think out of the three, the Klipsch had clearer and better vocal and midrange, but was seriously lacking in the bass department. The SB-450 was slightly better than the Bar 3.1 in mids and highs, but the 10" sub on the Bar 3.1 made the Klipsch sub sound and feel like a toy. The SB-450 had good bass response but the Bar 3.1 bass abilities sold me. The bar 3.1 has a much better remote than the SB-450 as well. Set up in my large living room, this thing is awesome! The bass is seriously impressive if you love bass. I never though I would find a subwoofer this powerful on a commercially available and affordable sound bar. The vocals are pretty good while the mids are a little lacking, but it still sounds awesome for movie use. Don't hesitate buying this if you are looking for an affordable setup without the mess of a normal 5.1 system. Good job JBL!

What a journey I had with getting a sound bar. A few months ago I bought a new tv and wanted to replace my small outdated soundbar. I did quite a bit of research and found an LG SH7B at a great price. I had it for awhile and it was better than my old Sony but not great. The sub started cutting out and their customer service was not good son I decided to return it and look for something else. I spent a couple days doing more research and got it down to Klipsch rsb-11, Polk Magnifi Max and this JBL Bar 3.1. I tried the Klipsch first and absolutely loved the sound. Everything was so clear and well defined. All went great until that night when I lowered the volume after the kids went to sleep and I heard a hissing/static noise coming from the bar while sitting about 10ft away. It wasn't anything super crazy but enough to drive me crazy. I bought a surge protector with "clean power", unplugged everything except the power cord and changed outlets. Nothing helped so I returned it and got a replacement. That had the same issue. I went to the Best Buy store and heard the same noise and also showed the salesman. I contacted Klipsch and they are saying it's normal. Now I know it's normal to hear noise from speakers but that's only when you are real close to it. Hearing it from 10 ft away while watching tv is not by any means normal. Others have complained about the same issue. It has good reviews for the most part so I'd say most people always keep their volume up, don't notice it or just don't get bothered by it. It bothered me so much I couldn't deal with it even though I'd say it's the best sound bar I have ever listend to. Finally I ordered the JBL and I now have a great sound bar. The sound is close to Klipsch, not quite as good but it has lows (more than any other sound bar I have heard) mids and high, all well defined and clear. Best of all, no hissing/static noise.

I originally purchased the Samsung 2.1 soundbar. While it was decent (and it sounded better in the store...be careful as I learned afterwards the Samsung in the store was also using some other speakers to help the sound---I think additional surround speakers). Anyway, I returned the Samsung soundbar the next day. Now, I get that it was a 2.1 and this JBL is a 3.1 system. I think the biggest difference in the 2 systems is the amazing subwoofer that comes with the JBL. It is just room rattling power. You can with the included remote turn up or down the sub's bass in 30 increments all displayed on the digital display neatly hidden in the sound bars speaker (this in itself is very cool). You can also choose from different modes (movie, voice, music, etc) on the sound bar via remote. You can turn on surround which sounds great while watching a movie. I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with this sound bar setup. Now, this isn't on my main TV in the family room. For that, I am using a large Def Tech system with a huge subwoofer and subs in the center channel and it's just a crazy overdone system (which sounds fantastic but my point is I know great sound when I hear it). I can't see spending over $1000+ for a soundbar and at that point you opt for the separate components and build a surround sound system. But, at the current sale price of $399 and when I purchased at $499 I think you'd have a hard time finding a better system. JBL is a company I have used for over 30 years going back to my home speakers in the mid 70's and car speakers not too many years after that. They primarily build great sound. Trust me and get this system, you won't be disappointed!

I have done a lot of research over the past month looking for the best deal on a good soundbar. I looked at a few big name systems and was not impressed with reviews and specs that I read on several websites and professional review sites...until I happened onto the JBL 3.1 Bar with 10" Subwoofer. Reviews said this thing had massive bass and clear concise mids and highs. I did read that the settings were kind of sparse but the preset settings for movie, sports, talk, etc...are very good and the middle channel for voice is just about perfect. I have trouble hearing voice dialog on a standard tv speaker and this soundbar really shines in that the voices are clear and I have no problem hearing them. Setup was so easy that my grandson could have done it. I have a Samsung 58" NU7100 that is in my opinion a very nice unit. The speakers...meh....not so much. I plugged the included HDMI cord from the soundbar into the HDMI ARC jack on the tv and soundbar, plugged the subwoofer in, punched the pairing button on the back and voila...it was ready to go. I just had to make a couple of settings changes on the tv and I was ready to watch Saving Private Ryan at 32 volume. Holy crap! I set the bass at 22 and it rumbled my house and I could feel the rumble in my gut in the beginning scene and the bridge scene. It blew me away with how it sounded like I was right there. Unbelievable. I highly recommend this unit if you are looking for a good midrange soundbar with high end characteristics. The price is higher than the same tier competitor but well worth it. I actually received a $50.00 off coupon from Best Buy for anything over $100, so I used it. Great deal.

I'm not expert, but I am a videographer and video editor, so I do know something about good video and good sound. I went through hundreds of reviews for this JBL 3.1 Soundbar with Subwoofer, and it's competition available at Best Buy, including the Magnolia Store. I listened to more than a dozen soundbars and listened to my final 5 again that made my short list. I ignored the sales person who wanted me to get in on the deal of saving $200 on a Sony 2.1 Sound bar with 11" Subwoofer, just because I was buying an eligible TV. I trust JBL, so I got the one I wanted. I just had it installed 1-30-18 with my new Sony TV [review coming as soon as DirecTV shows up to add my HD 4K receiver] and I must say that I am extremely impressed with this speaker system's tonal qualities. I have no problems whatsoever hearing a proper mix of highs, mediums, and lows with the sub-woofer. Want more bass for that action flick, turn it up and shake the walls. Need it to be more timid because the wife's in bed asleep, adjust it accordingly. No fuss, no muss. I replaced my 2004 $3700 JBL 5.1 surround sound and 12" sub with this JBL sound bar and 10" sub - it is amazing how well it "throws" the sound as though it's behind you - I literally was looking over my shoulder! No, I won't say it is exactly the same as the 5.1 system, but if it's a step down, it not a very big step. This soundbar was put in an 27' by 18' media room, and you can hear it just fine from every corner. I will note that the subwoofer is very, very effective for such a small package, and easily controlled. I'm thrilled with the purchase - and saved $100! It's on sale. Don't think about it - if you're in the market, and if you know JBL, make the purchase! You won't regret it.

As a young teen back in the days, we all turned to JBL as our go to choice for car subwoofers.. Always known for handling extreme bass in a clean and accurate manner.. This system goes back to those days of glory.. It was a toss up between Klipsch and this one.. I did not want the normal brands such as Samsung, Sony etc.. ive been through those and it was time to elevate.. This system in store had me looking in to heaven when it came to Bass, so I knew it would definitely do the job in my home.. She did not disappoint. I have a big great room that is opened in to the kitchen and she pounds.. if i turn the bass up, you can feel the house shake. I had to actually turn the bass down ! im not used to that since every other soundbar I've had required me to max the bass.. Now I will admit that the Klipsch did have better highs, but lacked in bass... The JBL excels above expectation in the bass area while doing a good job with the highs Only Neg is that JBL has a wireless 5.1 system on its way soon... My dilemma is keeping this one or bringing it back in time for the other.. Or maybe i will take this one to the bedroom and the get the 5.1 for the great room.. BUT THE BASS MAY BLOW ME OUT OF MY BED.. :) GET THIS SYSTEM IF YOUR A BASS LOVER LIKE ME !

Was in the market for a sound bar for my 75’ Samsung 4K tv. I recently moved my Klipsch RB10 to my 60’ Samsung Plasma (plasma rules, by the way) tv. I researched and looked for months. Was sold on Sonos, but got realistic and realized I didn’t need a $1,400 sound bar and sub. Overkill for my needs. Looked at Definitive Audio and they are expensive as well. Of course, looked at Bose too. I like Klipsch, my RB10 is a really nice bar. However, I was looking for something with 4K pass through and HDMI, ARC. I know the newer Klipsch bars have these features, but I’ll tell ya, the Klipsch bars are like bricks. Very big and bulky. But very nice sounding bars. Decided to go with the JBL 3.1. So far so good. Easy to install and sub connected flawlessly. After installing, I used my cable remote to turn up the volume. To my surprise, it worked! Just automatically synced (I guess). Didn’t have to type in a code or anything. It was like magic. As all have said, bass is deep and strong. Was $100 off at Best Buy. Lots of features and great sound for $400. Fits my needs. Glad I didn’t drop $700-1,400 on a sound bar. Hopefully this bar continues to perform well. On a side note...Klipsch has fantastic customer support, Jbl’s is horrendous! Anyway, great bar. Would highly recommend. Thanks JBL.

Traded in Sony 2.1 for this JBL 3.1

I was having all kinds of audio sync issues with the Sony 2.1 model that I originally bought. The audio was behind the video and was visibly noticeable and driving me crazy. I was using the ARC connection, which is supposed to be the best quality. I tried other options (optical) and still the same problem. The TV speakers were working fine if I unplugged the sound bar. After hours of troubleshooting, I decided to return the Sony 2.1 to Bestbuy. My main requirements is that the replacement sound bar had an ARC connection. When I set up this new JBL 3.1 system, I could immediately see that the sync issue was solved. I changed nothing else other than the sound bar from a Sony to this JBL. The JBL was a little more expensive (I got the Sony on sale), but very worth the extra money. The JBL remote and display on the sound bar is much better than the Sony and has a text display to tell you what modes are configured. Would definitely recommend this product over the Sony 2.1 system that I originally purchased. The exchange at my local Best Buy store was seamless. They did it in one transaction and was a great experience. I also talked with a very knowledgeable Geek Squad tech and we discussed the possibilities of solutions to my sync issues. They recommended that I try another sound bar and that fixed my problem.

I had been looking to replace a home theatre system with something not so bulky and still comparable sound. I narrowed it down to the Bose 300 soundbar and sub (sold separately) and the definitive tech micro soundbar. Both sounded good in the store but not wow (I'm sure if I got either home I would have been pleased). I ended up still looking and saw this JBL 3.1 system with included 10" sub. In reading the reviews, it was rated well for both very clear highs and room-rattling bass. Not to mention much less than the bose and slightly less than the definitive tech. I ended up choosing this because of the 10' sub honestly, but it was a great choice. I love feeling my movies and this system delivers this, plus you can adjust the base with the remote from none to holy sh*$. It is simple to set up, one cable, and easy to use. It was harder to figure out how to set my TV to the appropriate audio output. ABOVE ALL, the sound of the soundbar+sub is OUTSTANDING.

I recently remodel my family room and wanted to simplify my sound system. I had a Polk surround sound system which did the job before, but the rears really were not putting out anymore, and I was tired of all the wires running around the room. My wife tells me I don't hear very well anymore, so I may not be a sound expert by any means. I knew I wanted a 3.1 system, so I compared the Samsung and Polk systems with the JBL. Like everything in life, it is a matter of taste and I just felt the JBL was the better overall sound to me. The setup was pretty easy, I have my Roku, DVD, and Xbox all hooked in. The subwoofer automatically synced up as soon as I turned it on. My Roku remote paired up, and works well with turning everything on. Only glitch is the sound bar appears to turn off when I turn off the TV, but then the sound bar comes back on. I then have to use the remote that came with the unit to turn it off. The subwoofer can be adjusted to give you that subtle rumble or you can rattle the walls. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this product.

I was looking for a soundbar and did A LOT of research. I listened to different soundbars for 2 weeks before deciding on this one. I love the 10" sub. It puts out tons of bass. It is a great value for a 3.1 and a 10" Sub. I see a ton of reviews complaining about this soundbar. Unless you are willing to pay for a Sonos or Bose soundbar for $500 and then another $500 for a sub then you should be happy with the JBL at its price point. My sub connects flawlessly every time. I own a JBL Extreme and JBL/UA Train headphones and they are both amazing as well. I love the LED readout that shows me the info, i.e. volume level, source, bass level etc. instead of relying on lights. My final choice came down to the JBL BAR 3.1 and the Yamaha 207BL 2.1. The Yamaha's 6 1/2 bass couldn't fill the room and the I thought the dialogue was better on the JBL. The clear voice function on the Yamaha really didn't make a big difference. The only thing the Yamaha had was a better mid range. My 15 year old son and his friends couldn't believe how good the JBL sounded when listening to music.

So after a couple of weeks with the new sound bar I have to say it is one of the best I ever heard. I upgraded from a Samsung HW450F and have to say 100% different. Everything is more clear and the bass is incredible. I watched the new King Kong movie and just watched Dunkirk last night and absolutely fantastic, a couple of times my wife and I jumped because the sound was so amazing lol. I'm 55 years old and still like to rock out also and playing music on the sound bar is equally amazing. I actually have to turn the bass down a little to balance it out. I was so impressed by this sound bar that I bought my son the same one for Christmas! And now he is amazed by the sound and won't stop talking about it lol. I ended up getting mine for a great price over $175.00 off. Buy this sound bar and you won't be disappointed. Are there better sound bars out there? probably but you'll pay more for a lesser sound. It's just my opinion and I'm sticking by it.

This sound bar and sub are amazing. I was actually shocked when I first got it home not realizing the sub was massive. It's a 10in sub in a box and the sub faces down in the box.... It's what they use when setting up a massive home audio system so the bass really kicks. The sound bar is amazing and easily set up. I was having some lip sync issues on the 65 in Sony 900E running a High Speed HDMI cord from the TV to the sound bar.... So I bought a digital optical cable and ran it from my CHARTER box.... to the sub and by passed the TV which seems to work for audio delay. However, the remote does come with a delay option you can control the MS delay which is nice but mine is set at 0MS with a cord running from the charter box to the soundbar. It has many options including bluetooth which is awesome because you can blare super loud amazing music through it and use the remote even if your streaming on your phone. I can't say enough how much I enjoy this. Just hoping it doesnt break!

I spend a good amount of time looking for a sound bar that with a good sound and deep bass. I thought about buying the Sony 7.1.2 after my uncle bought one back in December. I found an open box for around 800. I totally think that to spend over 1000 on a sound bar is crazy. After researching and YouTube Videos. I finally decide to buy this JBL 3.1 and I will explain to you why. This sound bar quality is average not like your topical 1000”s sound bar no way the price range between 430-500 so the quality feels ok but not as premium as something you will get in a Bouse or Sonos or Samsung product. Let me tell you you are paying for sound quality and an amazing Bass. That thing is big and powerful. The sound you will get out of this thing feel the room and the house with amazing sound and bass. Don’t waste your money on the more expensive units this sound bar worth the money. Forget about cheaper sound bars this one will amaze you.

My wife and I recently upgraded from a 5.1 surround sound system that was 8-9 years old to this JBL 3.1 sound bar. We looked at several systems, ranging from Bose to Sony, and even Vizio. We narrowed it down to Polk, Klipsch, and this JBL system. After reading reviews and listening to in store demos we bought the JBL...and couldn't be happier! The sound is amazing! Definitely sounds better than the 5.1 we used to have. Soft spoken words are much clearer, music sounds great, and even though we divided to go with the larger 10 inch subwoofer we don't feel like the bass is overwhelming like it sometimes did with the 5.1. Plus this sound bar has more speakers , 9 speakers vs 5 or 6 in the other 2, making it much easier to hear everything. Definitely recommend this sound bar if you're looking for a good unit at a decent price.

Did I mention BASS!! MOST soundbars with wireless subwoofers just Don't cut it! BUT JBL DID IT! I went to JBL website and they are about to release a 5.1 version...can't wait for that one to release..I will purchase that one and put the 3.1 in the bedroom! I purchased this to pair with an older LED TV that was being moved into my bedroom. I wanted a little more sound being as how at times I would watch 3D movies on my PS3, however I didn't want to go through the hassle of having an entire home theater setup in my bedroom. I thought about the JBL 5.1 system and had a chance to listen to it because a friend of mine purchased it, but after talking with him he regretted the decision and wish he had purchased the 3.1 because they do not even use the 2 surround speakers. I enjoy the sound the 3.1 makes. The powered subwoofer that comes with it is bass-y and punch-y which is how I like it. I have not turned the volume up very high being as how I live in an apartment complex, but the sound that comes out of it is clear and provides a decent front stage for close quarters. I've been very happy with the quality and the sound of this product.

When most people buy an entry level or mid level soundbar and sub combo the first thing they usually notice after hook up is the lack of good quality bass. Fear not, the JBL 3.1 is the cure for what ails you. The voice quality from the highs is a game changer if you've been listening to your TV's built in speakers. The 10" sub is excellent in every way. Room shakin' bass if you so desire with zero distortion or if that's too much for you it is fully adjustable so you can turn the bass down (wimp). All in all if your looking for a good soundbar set up then go buy one of the other guy's entry level..but if your looking for great sound with awesome bass then this JBL 3.1 is what you want.
