Ive had this soundbar for almost two hears now. Bass is great, the smart mode is annoying and attenuates dialogue. But just yesterday the right rear speaker died completely. It wont connect to the soundbar even after help from a JBL specialist. Now I’m out $1k and have no option for a single replacement speaker, apparently they dont sell parts individually. GET SOMETHING ELSE.

I’ve owned an older version of this bar and just got this one recently to “keep with the times.” Unfortunately it did not come with the manual or remote. I haven’t been able to get any help from best buy or JBL. Maybe someone will see this and do something about it.

    Best soundbar I've had yet

This soundbar has exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is rich and full, from a satisfyingly strong base to even the highest of pitches without sounding tinny. Set up is painfully easy. I spent more time looking for a screwdriver to mount the rear speakers than I did actually setting it up. The remote is so intuitive that even my brother in law who hasn't figured out how to use Google (I wish I was exaggerating) has used it without problems. This isn't a replacement for the experience you'd get going to an actual movie theater, but as far as a home theater set up goes, it is definitely the easiest way there is to inch ever closer to having a real theater experience at home. The only thing I can really fault it on is that the batteries for the rear speakers don't last nearly as long as I'd like. I do have to charge them every other day, which I can just do overnight when I'm not using them anyway, so it isn't a deal breaker in any way, but it is still an area that definitely could be improved. Oh, and on a completely unrelated note, at packaging on this is really well built. I'm fairly certain it could survive being thrown off a roof. That doesn't really affect my rating any, but I always appreciate when a company actually thinks through

"Wow" were the first words out of my mouth when I hooked up the JBL 9.1 and 820w sound system. This truly is a unique sound bar with its detachable speakers and a massive Subwoofer that will literally shake the room. So I hooked this system up with my projector in the basement and I can honestly say this is probably the best soundbar and sound experience I have ever had. The Dolby atoms, 4K HDR truly provide you with the best sound quality and the detachable speakers on both ends create a surround sound theater like experience. The Subwoofer created tremendous amount of bass which literally shook my tile ceiling. The sound bar comes with multiple inputs such as HDMI arc, Bluetooth, optical and USB. You truly get what you pay for with this soundbar. You will not be disappointed.

Ive been around surround sound systems most of my life, my parents having an old set of pioneer floor speakers that weighed more than me and over time more and more advanced ones, when i got on my own i wanted some for the house, Me and my roommate spent nearly two hours in store going back and fourth between these 9.1 and some lesser 5.1 and the difference is insane. The 5.1 speakers become distorted or loses some quality in the mid range, these when set up right around the room sound amazing with control for the full range of sound. Setup was simple and even has bluetooth support so you can play music from your phone or pc thru the speakers. When not even set up at its max with base boost on you can literally rattle windows while being able to hear the vocal and mids crystal clear. We had the JBL's 9.1 for well over a year now and the satellite speakers still work wonderfully being able to go an entire night of music or movie watching before needed to be put back to the home unit for charging. Top-gun Maverick was a real theatre experience with these speakers all around you. Do yourself a favor and pick these up, compare them in the store vs the 5.1 or even the 7.1 surround sound units and the difference will be like night and day.

The soundbar that makes you forget its a soundbar!

I can't say enough good things about this soundbar. Seriously, I have had several sounders and surround sound systems. This is the one that dropped my jaw. This is the one that I "demo" to friends and family and when I do I watch them smile as they hear sounds behind and above them. They ask me how much and where can they get it. It easy super easy to setup and the detachable speakers give unparelled flexibility. I added some speaker stands that I break out when its movie time and then I put them up when it's just regular tv time. Yes you can leave the speaker off and make the dedicated rears but you will need to buy basic power cords for them. Let's talk bass...WOW! This thing booms harder and louder than most theater systems. With the Bass module about 5 feet behind our couch we literally FEEL every explosion, drum beat etc... I have NEVER felt such solid and resounding deep bass hits as I do with this and I don't mean muddy bass, I am talking about rich, powerful CLEAN bass notes. This soundbar elevates everything that runs through it. If you have been looking for the ease of soundbar with the excellence for true wireless surround sound (with ATMOS) look no further than this one. I can't recommend hitting the "Buy Now" button fast enough. This is the one.

The soundbar sounds amazing I have one in my living room and one in my game room the bass is amazing out of this soundbar. It’s not like others the side speakers are removable…. That’s the way I have it set up for true surround sound. The JBL 9.1 I would recommend to anyone!!

I was happy about the bass, height and surround effects. Wireless experience and setup was good too. I was not happy with dialogue as the bass tended to drown it out especially with Netflix. Also not thrilled about the rechargeable batteries going bad at some point in the future and would have to get them serviced or replaced to correct. Replacement is 200 per satellite at present. Constantly having to remember to charge them was a neat idea at first but then realized I would prefer to set them up in the correct place and forget about them. I tried the samsung set next and it had dialogue boosting features in addition to an eq. Trying nakamichi next as it seems to have all the bells, etc.

This an excellent surround sound especially when you place the wireless speakers near back or sides of you and hearing the tones of treble & mid range speakers but what sold me is the separate base speaker with 5 settings for rich deep sounds for movies, shows, gaming, music, and sports. We sent back our other new sub-par sound bar with inferior sounding base for this system. This is easy setup and worth the extra money to enrich our home entertainment. Thank you Best Buy for this product and offers.

Let me start by saying I purchased and returned a few systems to land on this jbl. I bought the Sonos system with surrounds and Gen 3 sub. The nakamichi 7.1.2 and the jbl 9.1. I returned both the sinks and the nakamichi. The nakamichi had good bass but the sound bar was not good or muffled sounding. The Sonos was a great system but after having the bass the jbl delivered I was just underwhelmed. The Dino’s had great sound a bit the jbl just sounded better to me. More of a warm sound than the Sonos and for half the price it’s a no brained. The jbl is not without its flaws and there are some things to know. When you buy it charge the satellite speakers for 3 hours before doing anything. This will save you a ton of headache. Also the satellites will only charge when the bar is in standby mode aka off. Which is a little annoying but they last 8-10 hours so realistically it’s no big deal as long as you remember to charge them after using them. They have a micro usb slot so you can always keep them on power if you plug them in (does not come with micro usb cords). There isn’t a lot of eq adjustments it what I’ve found best is turning bass down to 1-2 and turning the volume up gets a great mix. Watching action movies with atmos with this thing is AMAZING. This thing absolutely shakes my house and gives that movie theater experience. The surround speakers are fantastic. My dogs are always looking around wondering what is making sounds behind us. Playing games on the ps5 with this system is also unreal. Playing the new dead space is fantastic, the beginning scene where the space ship wrecks absolutely shook my house and I can hear the monsters all around me. I like this system so much I bought a second one for my video game room so I don’t have to take my ps5 to the living room to use it. I’m blown away by this system. Buy it.

This soundbar is great for movies... I had the jbl 450 soundbar and man did it have bass..This one continues that and when dolby atmos is playing with the rears behind you it gives you the whole experience which to me was better than sony and Samsung soundbars with atmos... The problem I had with this was I couldn't get the Bluetooth to stay connected to my iPhone it would cut out after about 5 seconds of playing and the detachable rears are great but just don't trust them long term with the batteries... Also the last jbl gave you a wider range of settings with things like bass surround volume but overall it sounds great

I got this for a Christmas present so I have only had it for a month or so. So far it has been great. I set my back speakers behind my chair and used the mini USB to plug into the wall so that it would be charging all the time. The sound is really good. This is my first sound bar and I love it so far. I really like how the sub and rear speakers are Bluetooth connected. The only issue is sometimes some of the spoken words get lost in the bass. It does not happen all the time, but it does happen periodically. I think it might have something to do with the movie I am watching, but not sure. But I can live with it. Also, the subwoofer if amazing! It will rock your chair if you turn it up. Happy with this purchase

I’m not a speaker snob and I read some reviews about how the sound isn’t as good from this speaker and I completely disagree. I bought these as a Christmas gift and we LOVE them!! The ends of the sound bar attached/detach, seem magnetic, and can be moved anywhere. We use them mostly for sports and we can hear every comment and all the background noise. It’s awesome!! Definitely recommend!! The worker in the store insisted there’s no such thing as wireless but he was wrong. As far as battery, they lasted a whole college football game day so I’d say it’s pretty good. When you reattach them, you can see a little red light on the top to show they are charging. Again, LOVE IT!!!! Also set up was soooo simple!!

The JBL 9.1-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Dolby Atmos/DTS:X is a solid audio upgrade for your home entertainment setup. The sound quality is impressive, with clear dialogue and immersive surround sound thanks to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. The wireless subwoofer adds a powerful punch to the audio. Setup is straightforward, and the wireless rear speakers offer flexibility in placement. The only drawback is the relatively high price, but if you're looking for a premium audio experience, this soundbar delivers.

Excellent sound quality and the wireless speakers vs wired is a bonus, but the battery life leaves something to be desired. Frequently loses connection to the sub woofer and rear speakers which is not a HUGE deal, since they can be paired again quickly and your back in business! Definitely an overall huge difference in sound between this system and the 3 other Vizio soundbars I used before buying this JBL 9.1. Just a little too pricey considering the negatives I have listed but overall i am happy with it.

Fantastic great sounding system. Did a lot of studying and comparisons and came up with this one and it has not disappointed. The wireless surrounds sound great and I have experienced no problems with dropouts, lost quality or battery life. Attach and detach is easy. Bluetooth to play music from by phone alse works and sounds great. IT turns on and off automatically with the TV. The manual says that you can hook up a device directly to the HDMI input in the soundbar but I think that's only for sound - at least I haven't experienced video passing through to the TV.

Wife fell in love at the store when we tested them. Great for movies. An ongoing issue I've run into is that they need to connect to Wifi and the connection doesn't work for long periods of time. After a day or two, it just won't recognize the TV, having to unplug and and replug it back in (my solution was attaching a remote controlled plug to quickly turn it on/off) Unfortunately, I have yet to find another solution to the point where I will only turn it on for big movies or some video games. Despite that, the sound is too good to not have it on when enjoying action heavy movies/games.

I've had this for about a year now and I am very pleased with the performance. The subwoofer sounds phenomenal and the wireless surround system sounds just a good if setup correctly. There are several specific things about this sound bar that I would like to mention: 1) The connectivity for this sound bar is really good, I've never experienced any issues with delay when watching movies, nor have I experienced any issues when adding or switching devices. A+ for connectivity. 2) Setup for this thing can be a bit tricky. You have to tune the wireless speakers to the sound bar in order to get the best experience out of the surround sound system. Not difficult, but a little annoying. I suppose that's the price we pay for wireless. The biggest issue I've experienced with this is the charging of the wireless side speakers. The way you have to charge them is incredibly inconvenient and doesn't make a lot of sense. If you do purchase this, I'd recommend watching a youtube on how charge the side speakers. I'd give it a B for setup/user friendliness. At the end of the day, despite the quirks, this is a great product. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a premium wireless sound bar.
