Atmos?...Yes Please!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one incredible soundbar system. I have never heard a soundbar that fills a room this well before. It truly feels like a full on HT system. The definition and clarity, even at high volumes, is unreal. I can hear ever detail like it's meant to be. The atmos feature on this thing is awesome. I was skeptical about it as it has upward firing drivers, but I am amazed at how well it performs. It really feels like the atmos effects are above me. The bass shakes my apartment...lol. Very deep and detailed without roll off at lower bass extension range. The subwoofer keeps up with music and movies just fine. Just overall amazing sound quality. The bluetooth streams well with no issues. The 4k hdr pass through works as it should, but I do wish there were more Hdmi inputs. Very sleek design and easy to set up. The detachable and rechargeable rear speakers are very convenient and easy to use. Overall, I am very happy with this soundbar system and look forward to many movie nights. Great job JBL.

Great Sound - One flaw with detachables.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do like the sound from this system. I had SONOS playbar prior to this and find the JBL superior. I have vaulted ceilings, and JBL still fills the room with rich sound. The subwoofer produces quality bass that passes my wife’s. Inspection. High praise... Believe me. I did have issue with first unit purchased. Left speaker would not connect to main. Support quickly reached. They were very pleasant, knew the product and suggested I return the unit. Best Buy replaced unit and I was up and running. The 4 star rating is because the detachable speakers will not charge when docked on main unit unless it is in standby. I was under impression you could listen while they were charging on main unit. I was mis-lead by FAQ on another site. The manual clearly states speakers will not charge while docked and not in standby. You can charge and listen while detached with MICRO USB. I found that my Sony TV kept taking unit out of standby when Airplay was enabled on TV. They never got a chance to charge. After all this, I am still very happy with unit. The detachable speakers add surround sound I was missing since I moved a few years back. Running wires is not an option in this living room. I think you should be able to listen to speakers while docked and charging on the main unit.

Fun while it lasted
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately this soundbar ended up having issues like many that I am reading about now. It started off promising with decent sound for my room size. All of a sudden it wouldn’t power on and I tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions and still nothing. Outside of the BestBuy warranty period and still waiting for JBL to respond. Very disappointing being that the price point would lead you to believe you are paying for a superior product and service to go with it if needed. No such luck.

Great when it works. But when it doesn’t..
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it in August of 2020. The detachable speakers rechargeable battery’s have already stopped working. Very disappointing. We have had many connection issues as well. When it works it’s great. But when it doesn’t work it’s very frustrating especially for the price.

Decent
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don’t know much but one thing I know about is wireless sound systems. I’ve had them all. My house has another major brand throughout, and this soundbar was purchased solely for my bedroom. The idea of detaching the rear speakers made this appealing to me, since I have no outlets by my bed. So let’s talk about functionality. The system is a 5.4.1, not 9.1 as they say. It has 4 upward firing mids to give us the.. drum roll.. dobly atmos. Kind of cool that sound is becoming more immersive and this little guy can fill a huge room with sound. The channels work as intended, and while broadcasting media on dobly atmos you can hear the vertical sound from the upwards firing speakers (.4 of of the 5.4.1). The sub woofer is 10” down firing, and bulky! Really bulky! I couldn’t hide it. The sub and rears have minimal adjustments from the remote, but enough to turn that bass down...the sub handles the lows with ease and if you want to make your neighbors upset, it can do that too! The rear speakers didn’t last 10 hours as advertised, but that ok. I don’t ever plan on watching anything for that long. They sound great, and are easy to use and put back when not in use. So everything is all good on this except... the center channel. The dialog is not able to overcome the array of other speakers, so what you have it crank the volume up to hear the dialog and then BOOM loud crash or loud anything else that’s not dialog. Ive had this issue with most of these sound bars, so I just figure some companies can’t get it right. Now the high end brands to a much better job and this unit is priced towards the higher end of the market, but with all 4 speakers it’s cheaper by about half of what you’d pay for Bose and Sonos. So I would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy to use home theater system that’s wireless. It has mostly good , a little bad, but changes the movie or tv watching experience into something more special.

Muffled sound.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I guess I was expecting more from a $1,000 JBL sound bar system. Setup was easy. Quality of the hardware is excellent. I found that the audio quality was sub par where everything sounded muffled. I tried using brand new HDMI cables and tested different audio sources and it was all the same muffled sound. I was expecting an EQ with this system so you could at least fix this issue yourself. Or at least a treble and bass adjustment nob! But No!! I returned this JBL 9.1 system and hooked up my old Visio 3.1 sound bar system. I realized how good my old Visio sounded and decided to stick with it a while longer.

Cool idea but poor execution
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the idea of this soundbar having totally wireless rear speakers. They sounded great! The problem that made them unusable - it caused so much interference on my wifi network i couldnt stream any content. My wifi speed with the bar powered off was 500 mbps, power it on goes to 5-6 and super erratic, power it off and back to 500. I wish this would have worked. Support was no help, so they will be returned

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did not have a positive experience with this product. 1) could not complete the software upgrade 2) One of the rear surrounds would not hold a charge even after several days o being charged only lasted 45 minutes 3) Would not calibrate I might have just received a defective unit. Very disappointed.

No sound after two days.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was great for the first two days, then sound would not come out of the bar...contacted JBL support and after trouble shotting they insisted the problem was the TV, next day I bought Vizio Elevate and had Geek Squad come out and look at it. After a hour of trying to get the JBL to work, they instaled the Elevate and it worked with no problem.

Don’t fall for the in store demo.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After hearing the in store demo I decided to purchase the JBL 9.1 over the Bose 700. Well after a few days of giving it a chance I ordered the Bose. Why you may ask ? Very simple the JBL failed miserably at reproduction music I had to change adjustments with each song played. Unacceptable for my household. For movies it was ok at best but still required sound adjustments at various times. My advice don’t fall for the in store demo as it is very good. FYI - when I purchased from Best Buy their website stated end caps included. THIS is false information as I learned contacting JBL. North American products DO NOT include the end caps. They are an additional $100 plus shipping from JBL. Best Buy was uncooperative on resolving the issue of their advertising flaw.

Versatile Surround/Amos Solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sound bar and subwoofer is larger and heavier than others I’ve had. The package is a little heavy, but easy to unpack. The sound bar seems very well built. The finishes are nice and subtle, and the magnetic satellite speakers solidly connect to the main unit. My setup is probably unconventional: An Apple TV 4K and a Roku Ultra going into a Hue Sync box, Hue Sync HDMI out connected to the sound bar HDMI in, HDMI out on the sound bar connected to HDMI Arc on a LG B8 OLED. I had a previous sound bar in the same setup, so it was simple to swap this one in. Once everything was connected and powered on, I ran the configuration from the remote and added the sound bar to the Google Home app. That connected it to wifi, which downloaded an update. There is a large display behind the grill, which lights up with status and info. The display was very helpful while the update was being applied. The display also changes with the signal of the content you are watching. For example it will display DOLBY ATMOS or DOLBY SURROUND so that you know which signal it has received. I tested this by watching Vision/Atmos supported Netflix movies on the Apple TV, the Roku (I used Amazon Prime), and 2 Dolby test files (Atmos and 1080p video) that can be downloaded from their website (streamed using Plex on my local network with the Roku). The Roku and Apple TV remotes can control the volume of the sound bar, eliminating the need to keep another remote out. I really like this setup, with the ability to detach the satellite speakers. My living room arrangement wouldn’t allow me to run wires for surround speakers, so this is amazing. Most of the time the speakers will be docked (keeping them charged), but when watching atmos content, they can easily be detached. Specs say that they battery should last 10 hours, but I can’t imagine I’d ever keep them undocked for more than then length of a movie or a tv episode or two. Atmos aside, the ability to have “on demand” surround sound speakers is a major plus. The satellite speakers can also be charge with micro-usb. This would be good if you wanted to keep them in place and not have to dock them to charge. The subwoofer is very large but the sound is great. I find that most sound bars with subwoofers are way too rumbling for me, even with adjustments. The bass on this one has a deep and solid sound, hard to describe, but I prefer it to others. Dialog was also very clear, which is great. While watching 6 Underground on Netflix, the opening flight scene really shows off the atmos experience. Watching a couple of episodes of Jack Ryan on Amazon on the Roku also was a great display of atmos. There was a split second of static coming from one satellite speaker while watching Netflix, but it seemed to quickly resolve itself and I didn’t hear it again. I did notice that there is a slight buzz at times coming from the satellites, when nothing was playing. This happened on the Roku, but not the Apple TV. This might be something specific to my setup. I’ve also used it for streaming music from YouTube Music, over chrome cast and it sounded great. It also supports AirPlay or a direct bluetooth connection. The versatile satellite speakers are an amazing and unique solution. The lack of multiple HDMI inputs, and the random buzz or static sound are potential problems.

Bad for Conversation
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looks great, Action sound great, speech or conversation is really BAD. Its frustrating to spend So much money and not being able to obtain a clear speech in a movie. Sometimes its better to just use the TV ( Samsung) rear speakers, they are clearer for listening to a conversation. JBL must improve this and have a update for our systems.
