    Great Idea but Lackluster Execution

Bought this sound bar right around when it came out for $1,000. So I've had it for a bit. The concept of the detachable surround sound Bluetooth speakers is genius. As far as that goes, the detachable speakers last quite a while on battery (usually two movies worth or more) and sound great from a Dolby and synchronization standpoint. There are some glaring issues with this sound bar however. There is a serious overheating issue, on an area center-left of the bar. I have to fully unplug this sound bar to reset it, probably at least once a month, if not twice a month. The woofer doesn't have many sync issues, but does happen from time to time (maybe 3x year). The user interface is lackluster and is not very user friendly. Connecting to Bluetooth is a whole ordeal. Each time. If you live with more than one person with a phone, good luck figuring out who is going to connect (only one allowed). AND you have to turn on and put it in BT mode before connecting. I had a Sony bar made in 2015 that handled multiple connections and even connected when off/standby. Moving to this bar has been a double edged sword. Great sound but not much else. Not worth 1k but maybe $450-500 on sale.

I am totally blown away by the sound of this soundbar. Hooked it up to my 8K TV and it delivered without fail. I had a complete Dolby atmos system with tower speakers, center channel, woofer, rear speakers. Sounds is not the same. This blows that system away. I would not have believed it if someone was trying to sell me this soundbar to replace my sound system a few years ago, but after listening to this system there is no doubt that this is an amazing system. The wireless speakers can be charged by connecting them to the soundbar - magnetically. Just place them next to each end of the soundbar and they slide right in. Pull them off the soundbar to hang back on the wall behind you. They do come with micro USB connections if you want to leave them plugged in at all times. JBL claims they will last up to 10 hours. I ran them wirelessly for about 7 and then plugged them into the soundbar. I also tried the usb micro cable to leave them plugged in and that worked as well. your choice.

I had been looking at getting a wireless surround sound system and knew I really wanted a quality one. My previous system was a wired surround sound system. The quality of sound that you get out of this JBL system is amazing. Crisp, clear and loud. I find that when watching everyday TV I simply leave the rear speakers attached to the bar but when I am watching something where I want to feel it then I detach them and woah! Wonderful immersive sound that really moves, you can feel the sound from up and down and the sides. Movie theater quality. Set up was super easy and the included directions were easy to follow. You can also find the manual online if you need more. This is a intuitive system that is really fool proof. I connected it to wifi thru my google home and it automatically updated. Configure the sound by following the instructions and you are good to go. This is a great surround sound system, with easy set up and quality sound. I would recommend this set.

The lowest bass setting is still VERY bassy so if you live in an upstairs apartment, I dont recommended unless your neighbors are chill. Other than that, the sound is amazing and quality is amazing! The detachable speakers are cool to use as well!

Didn’t like the sound at all. Wasn’t immersive. I exchanged for the Sonos beam with 2 one speakers and the sub. Far superior.

Fantastic Upgrade to my circa 2014 sound bar

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Summary: well worth the money, especially for the Atmos capabilities in a package that also includes a quality subwoofer. Background: my prior sound bar was a Visio 3.1 setup with ~6” sub, which I have gotten my moneys worth 10x over. It was/is a fantastic sound bar especially for its $300 range price tag at the time (this was back in 2013-2014). However, it is only good for Dolby digital, and was causing some compatibility issues with my 4K AppleTV. If you enabled Dolby Vision it would be hit or miss on the audio dropping out. So cue the search for a new, current gen sound bar, to match with the Apple TV 4K and my LG B7 OLED. It was between this JBL, the Sonos arc, and one of the Sony setups. JBL won out for the below: Pros: - fantastic sound for Dolby/Dolby atmos enabled iTunes movies and physical copies on 4K player. - removable side speakers is a great compromise for my mounting in a semi enclosed space. Allows me to move majority of the upward firing speakers outside of the enclosed space for atmos. The arc or some of the other atmos units would’ve required mounting unobstructed to make it worthwhile. - sub is fantastic and hits hard with tight bass. - setup is straightforward. Cons: - dialogue in some non-Dolby movies is hit or miss for quality. I feel like I do have to listen to hard for some movies but this is mostly poor performance from the movie sound mixing. - does NOT like you to fast forward, the bar has a habit of audio crackling and dropping out. To fix this just rewind a little and hit play or whatever and it should resync properly. - no real eq settings. Like someone else said, I would like the option to adjust at least treble/mid/base. Did not setup the airplay or google crap. I’ll leave that alone. As soon as I hooked up the bar to Ethernet it updated itself.

Best sound bar with Dolby Atmos

So, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set this system up; although the box/package is massive, it was well protected, and easy to put together. The detachable rear speakers work really well, you can charge them separately or attach them to the bar to charge, and, the sub puts out a TON of Bass, and I had to turn that down! The main disappointment for me, was the lack of any equalizer in the software, aside from turning down the bass, but since most people will use this for home theater use, that shouldn't be an issue. BT connections, wifi/ethernet, Toslink/HDMI, all the connections are there, but the best experience is connecting your system via HDMI. Its a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for, and, this will make most people really happy with their home theater setup, especially if you were looking for an easy to configure, very good sounding experience.

    Very Nice System

This soundbar system is very well-made. It is big enough and sturdy enough to provide great sound without being too obtrusive. The sound is fantastic from my Chromecast and Bluetooth connections from my phone and tablet. I have not used it with my tv yet. I like the ability to either attach or remove the back speakers to fit your personal environment. The wireless subwoofer connects smoothly to the soundbar and doesn't have any lag that I can tell. The surround sound is impressive, but I think I will enjoy it even more when I get my new tv and start watching some movies on it to really test out the Atmos technology and 4K and HDR capabilities. If you have a large viewing room, I think this is a great system. If you have a smaller viewing room, this may be a bit much due to its power and size.

The open box JBL soundbar system was a great value. The box was damaged but the contents were still in their factory wrappings. Everything works great and it sounds fantastic. the process was very easy at your outlet store. The people were very helpful. We will be returning for any other electronics purchases in the future. Good products. Great discounts. Good people. Great experience.

My old Bose 3-2-1 system finally crapped out. Always was raised to appreciate nice sound systems whether its in home theater or in my car. Was searching around the store doing my research for a decent set up that doesn't break the bank and someone turned this system up and I was immediately drawn to it from across the store. I was going back and forth between a few different systems and I'm glad I went with this one. The sound quality is incredible, my daughter came downstairs from the opposite side of the house and said she felt like she was going to fall through the floor because it was shaking from the bass and everything else sounds clear and even as can be. You get all the components in one package (powerful soundbar, super powerful sub, and truly wireless rear speakers) and all the hardware to wall mount and cables without spending and extra to add rear speakers and a $700 subwoofer. A really cool feature is that you can very simply unhook the rear speakers from the wall mounts if decide to mount them and slide the rear speaker pods back onto the soundbar and recharge them when they get low, or you have the option of running a mini usb cord up to them so they always charge and you never have to touch them. Simple set up i did download the full manual off the internet which helped for the tech side of it.

Having the hometheater for about a year now, its been one of the best $1k purchases ive made. Im a big movie person and im also a kaiju fanatic. Watching Godzilla Vs Kong 2021 with this home theater is an absolute dream of an experience. Great sound quality, superb surround sound experience, rich deep base, all around an amazing product. And it doesnt have to stay at the house, i bring this sound system to my friends house just to play some music with it. 10/10 would recomend this product.

This is a combination review of the soundbar and of Best Buy. Due to prior disappointments I should have known better, but since my last purchase of an expensive LG OLED went so badly they gave me the Geek Squad protection service, normally $200 a year, for free, which is exactly what it's worth. I bought this soundbar and had the free installation scheduled asap, for a week later. I had several questions that a Geek Squad member should have been able to answer. The two men who brought the soundbar were delivery men only, and had no idea how to answer my questions as they usually only deliver appliances. I was told the Geek Squad would be doing the installation. After they left I called the Geek squad and had to reschedule another visit 5 days later. I asked to talk to a supervisor and was told there were 5 others ahead of me who had requested a supervisor as well. I left my number, but I doubt they will call back, because they never do. I used the ARC HDMI to connect the soundbar because I was already using the optical out of the TV for my wireless headphones, and because reviews mention that if you use the optical all you can get is 5.1, not 9.1. I solved the problem of powering the rear speakers by connecting them to AC using adapters (iPhone type), with a USB to mini USB cord so that they are constantly powered, which eliminates the battery issue so many complain about. The soundbar sounds good, but of course the delivery men didn't know how to adjust it or test it. When you turn on the soundbar it takes over all audio and the TV speakers can no longer be used, even if you want to. This is on a 83" LG OLED, brand new with Dolby Atmos. The wireless headphones no longer worked after the soundbar was connected. I need the headphones because I get up early and don't want to disturb my wife if I want to watch TV. Sometimes I use them during the day for the same reason, if she's reading for instance. To test if it was the TV or the soundbar I hooked up a different TV, also a new LG OLED 77" in the master, using the ARC HDMI for the PS4, and the wireless headphones still work using the optical output of the TV. I have little hope that the Geek Squad will be able to get my headphones working again, even though I bought them from Best Buy. They didn't have a clue why they wouldn't work initially last year and I had to find out for myself a year later that the settings were incorrect to allow them to function. They worked on cable, but not on blue ray or streaming until I discovered the advanced audio setting mismatch.

I was scrolling through and saw a review saying that this is an unimpressive and unconvincing atmos system. To be clear i consider myself an avid hone thester enthusiast and went through great pains to find an overall system that i like the sound of and keeps my wife happy with aesthetics. I have been to several commercial theaters with including amc and have watched dozens of movies in that theater and other premium atmos theaters. I have also been in homes with atmos setups into the 5k rangs. I provide that context to the next statement i make isnt ridiculous. The JBL absolutely holds its own, ive had it for two years and it still surprises me with how convincing of a 3D bubble it can make. Several good movies to test Atmos (not necessarily good movies) would be spider head with the jbl in my home it doesnt sound like voices are above the tv when the intercom comes up. It sounds like youre in a hospital and there are announcements being made, its spooky natural. The tomorrow war theres some great scenes with helicopters where youre not just getting one dimensional overhead effects but sweeping back right of the room to front left that are again extremely true to life. Its not the be all end all system in truth it is bested by some other more expensive systems but for $1000 this is a absolutely amaxing system. No ugly receivers, no wires, no permanent satellites, absolutely servicable audio quality, very rich punchy powerful bass, and very good atmos performance. Its actually very strange to even see that gripe because this bars most staunch critics will even give credit to the outstanding atmos performance so i felt compelled to speak up. This system isnt without its flaws, in my opinion not having an eq option at this price is a little ridiculous, i am fortunate enough that the room calibration and limited bass controls are enough to put the sound where i personally like amd overall i think most would be impressed with its a little ridiculous the option isnt there, there should be audio profiles and there should be an app. Its incredibly annoying the bar has to be shut off to charge speakers because sometimes the bar wont shut off with the tv leaving you with dead surrounds which is obnoxious. Small quality of life things that im sure will be addressed in the next iteration but overall an absolute winner.

The sound is incredible. Will BLOW you away. The only draw back is that you can not charge the speakers when turned on. Bar has to be in standby mode -off - for the end speakers to chage. Charge last about 10 hours.
