Great for Atmos mixed movies, could use some fixes

This soundbar sounds great with movies that have an Atmos sound track. Truly impressive. Were this the only purpose, I would love the Bar 9.1, but there are some issues preventing me from really enjoying this. After a week with it, I am debating returning. Here are the issues:
1. The remote is awful. If the room is dark, you cannot read the buttons as there is no backlight and it is dark grey writing on black buttons. Further, some of the advanced commands, like turning off Smart Mode, requires awkward button combinations and a manual.
2. Smart Mode is on by default every time you turn the Bar on. You cannot change this setting. This means I have to do the super awkward command of "hold mute for at least three seconds, release, and within a half second press volume up." Smart Mode also largely sounds bad, and it feels like someone put a delay pedal between the unit and rears.
3. There are no EQ settings, only independent three-stage adjustments for Atmos, rear, and sub levels. You can play with these to compensate some, but it is really annoying. Setting 3 on the sub isn't enough bass, while setting 4 will get me HOA complaints.
4. One HDMI input in addition to the eArc is inadequate. This is on me for not doing my research in this regard.
5. Every adjustment of levels causes sound to cut for a split second. Why this happens when I just want to turn up a rear speaker, I do not know, but it is annoying, especially with the lack of EQ settings.
6. The rear speakers do not output equal volume. The right rear is louder than the left. I am going to calibrate the surrounds again and have an objective friend come listen to see if they hear it. It may be me as my left ear's hearing is a little weaker than the right

This isn't the best sounding sound bar but the main reason for the purchase was for the wireless rechargeable speakers. The speakers work great and the fact you can setup wireless surround sound for a movie is very convenient. Dolby Atmos sounds great, too. The software is really buggy though. I've had issues where the sound bar won't turn on so I'd have to unplug the power and plug back in to get it to boot. The most annoying bug was the fact I could not get the sound bar to connect to wifi. It took many, many, attempts where connection would fail so I'd had to factory reset and try again.

I looked at many systems for my home and TV.
Read all the specifications .....
Finally decided on the JBL 9.5 system
I couldn’t be more happy with it.
Got everything out the box, made all the connections, which was minimal.
The Bluetooth connected seamlessly and works great!
I really like the outboard speakers that detach , connect by Bluetooth , and the 10 inch subwoofer hits all my requirements and performs well.
It doesn’t matter what I’m listening too.
Orchestras, country, rock, the sub makes it all worth it. If you don’t have a system like this , you don’t know what your missing.
I hope to have a 12 inch sub or add another 10 inch one day.
Do you hear me JBL ?

Great System! The overall sound is super impressive and the portable surround speakers are so cool. I also love that you can charge them via USB if you don't want to reconnect to the sound bar. Set up is literally 3 plugs and you're done. Frankly, I took the unit back because for my place this system was far more than I needed. The bass is huge on this thing and I live in an apartment. I don't think you really can go wrong with this purchase. For a bit less money I got the Samsung Q850T and that sufficed for me with almost equal sound quality.

For the price you would expect a lot more features. Its very barebones when you compare it to other systems at this price point. Better display, better setup instructions and an adjustable EQ should be a given at this price. Lower priced offerings from other brands do much better in this area. The JBl 9.1 makes these short comings up in the sound which is amazing. The kicker is you really have to pair this with the latest technology to get the most from it. Get a TV that has eARC 2.1 hdmi ports and get a highspeed HDMI cables (48Gbps). I initally had this paired with a Samsung TV from 2011 and a hdmi cable that i bought back then and the sound wasnt any better than the $200 sound bar that I replaced which almost made me return it. I figured it was time to replace my TV as well and picked up the LG CX65 along with new highspeed hdmi cables (48Gbps) to connect my PS5. The sound was night and day after making these changes. Want some booming sound? Put the bass at level 4, Atmos at High, play an Ultra HD movie at volume level 18 and you will shake your neighbors house. The sound is unreal!! The wireless surround speakers are awesome. I love the fact that I can place them where ever I want at any time. The only issue i'm experiencing is the sound from the entire sound bar stops randomally after a while (while speakers are attached). Not sure what is causing that but I plan to reach out to JBL about that.
I'm using the built in apps on my LG CX65 to get dolby atmos sound from the apps that offer it (Netflix, Disney +, Amazon).

Great JBL sound with powerful Subwoofer. True wireless surrounds although the battery life not as good as JBL states. When the surrounds are separated from the main bar, the connections are exposed. Apparently, JBL supplies end caps in certain countries but not the US. How weird is that? Also, they don't have an app which would have been nice. I permanently wired the surrounds using the micro usb port so the end caps would have been nice. Is it worth $1,000? Sound wise yes. Features NO!!

I'm very pleased with this purchase... my wife and i were between the sonos setup and this.... Sonos would have been significantly more expense. For our purposes this system is perfect. The rear speakers sound surprisingly good for being wireless and battery operated... you get a true surround sound out of them. Similar systems with wireless rear speakers struggle to get a much of a surround effect. The subwoofer is externally powered and rattles my walls. There are certainly better wired reciever systems out there but for a compact easy wireless setup this is great
