Wonderful High-End Product - Some Considerations

Soundbars are not the same as they were a few years ago. The Bar 1300x from JBL is absolutely massive - both in terms of sound and audio format compatibility. Any high-end audio from your favorite movies or TV shows will really start to shine when you use premium audio products. Here's what I'm a fan of - the audio quality when utilizing Dolby Atmos compatible media is astonishing. I never expected to have such a good audio experience outside of a theater, yet here we are. The quality of surround sound that you get from the Bar + 2 removable Bluetooth speakers will make you wonder how Bluetooth can support such rich sound. I've thoroughly enjoyed having them placed behind me during movies, and when you couple this with the MASSIVE subwoofer, you'll be impressed. The bass is deep and rumbly, and since it's so robust, I keep the bass set to level 1 or 2 for most content I watch. Vocal clarity is there, although it's easy for it to get muddied if you don't take the time to calibrate your soundbar before use. Please remember to calibrate and position your soundbar folks, it makes a big difference! I'm really thankful that JBL included a full suite of creature comforts, such as Ethernet, 3 HDMI 2.0 connectors, plus eARC/ARC compatibility. I've chosen to run this product using ARC because I prefer to have the Dolby Atmos passthrough for all of my HDMI sources - so all of my HDMI inputs are connected to this device. Since this device has network connectivity, remember to setup your Airplay, Alexa, or Google Home to work with this soundbar! It's really nice to be able to stream audio to the Bar at any time, especially since it doesn't require Bluetooth. You can connect to your network via WiFi if you don't have a hardwired connection available. Now, for the list of things I didn't enjoy - HDMI 2.0 doesn't support high refresh-rate displays, so if you have a fancy 120Hz 4K HDR TV - please remember that you can't get that high refresh rate of 120Hz from the HDMI inputs on the Bar 1300x. Low-end audio, such as webcam audio from a YouTube video, will not sound very nice on this soundbar. I realize that can be disappointing for some people, but it's difficult to take low-end audio and make it sound amazing on high-end hardware. If you plan to keep the detachable Bluetooth speakers detached 24/7, you will need to pick up 2 USB C charging cables and bricks to keep the speakers fully powered. This isn't a huge deal - but when you purchase a high-end audio setup like this, you'd usually expect to have everything you need in the box. Just food for thought. Would I recommend this unit? Absolutely. Just remember that low quality audio doesn't sound amazing and the Bar 1300x is not equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports. If you're someone who streams a lot of quality content or owns a nice collection of Blu-Ray movies/shows, you'll really enjoy this product.

From the moment I heard this one in store, I knew I had to have it at home....this thing will rock the house if I want it too...and it works for everyday listening as well. The only issue is that it will occasionally disconnect from the TV via the eARC port for a few seconds (no sound) and then connect back up...This may be a TV issue as much as it could be the soundbar issue...overall, glad I bought this one.

    Perfect form and sound

The only part of this soundbar I don’t like is the packaging! It’s a pain to unpack, but the reward is great when you do get everything out of the oddly shaped box. The form factor is genius: a soundbar with detachable surround speakers that can act as part of the whole of the 11.1 channels, as a pair of stereo Bluetooth speakers, or as single BT speakers completely independent. And all these functions are handled flawlessly. I replaced a smaller unit with this one. The JBL is much more substantial, heavier, longer, more solid build. But the size is still in keeping with a sleek sound bar form. Mounting brackets, hardware, and template are included and well explained. I chose to leave the unit on the console below the TV, but kept the hardware and template in case we rearrange at some point in the future. There’s minimal setup out of the box. The surround speakers attach magnetically with a satisfying click. (Also included are two attractive magnetic caps in case you decide to permanently position the surround units apart from the main bar.) Each surround has its own power button for when they are disconnected from the sound bar. They charge when attached. The subwoofer is HEAVY and BIG. But purpose is served by its size. The sound is full, undistorted and definitely room-filling. There is a very useful and simple (thank you, JBL) remote that includes a calibrate button. Pressing the button will calibrate the sound to the current configuration. Brilliant. The sound in all configurations is delightful. We recently had a party outside and tried the stereo setup of the two surround units. They sounded great, even out on the patio where sound dissipates nearly immediately. But using the sound bar and satellites as intended is where the unit really shines. Our sofa has no table behind it, so the sats sit on the kitchen island behind the sofa. You can see why I love this feature of having temporary surround speakers when in use, and having them seamlessly attach back to the main bar for every day. I HIGHLY recommend this system for audio quality (atmos is amazing), versatility, quality, and ease of use.

The quality if sound is incredible. The detachable, wireless speakers seem to have better battery life than stated, which is fantastic! It integrated and connected to my Samsung tv perfectly and with ease. I would recommend this soundbar to anyone looking to give their home experience a boost.

This sound bar blows other ones away we love it the bass is awesome and shakes the house when it kicks in. I would recommend this unit even with the higher cost you will see were the extra cost is worth it if you love the big sounds. The detachable rear speakers are very cool, no wires just put on little brackets on the wall and you have surround sound it is very easy.

This soundbar is AMAZING! The bass is absolutely phenomenal. The detachable, wireless rear speakers make it so easy to put anywhere you want them. You just recharge them after a days and they are good to go again. Setup was a breeze. Black Friday sale made this purchase possible, and I still can’t believe how good it sounds!

Really great replacement for 7.1 surround

I have had a wired, 7.1 A/V set-up for a long time. My 4 back surrounds were connected via wireless transmitter/receiver because my living room is not setup to run wires to the back. They still required speaker wires and 2 outlets for the receivers, so 10 wires for the back. We bought a new living room furniture setup that did not allow for all of those wires to be hidden. I had to come up with a different option because I was not about to run wires through the ceiling and get into all that. After a lot of research, I decided on the Bar 1300X. "downgrading" isn't exactly the word I would use going from wired to a soundbar. It was more of a lateral move. The sound is fantastic with the detachable speakers connected the the soundbar. It is even more amazing when they are used as surround speakers. The calibration was easy, and you could recalibrate quickly if you want to change positions (say to make them farther apart when you have more people over). The sub is massive. Great sound. Deep bass. Not kidding, you could use it as am end table. I do. Obviously, a major draw was the wireless surrounds. People complain about having to connect/reconnect them due to battery lasting roughly 10 hours. Personally, I like the magnetic satisfaction I get from connecting them. Rarely, and I mean rarely, do I watch TV for 10 hours straight where I would worry about running dry. The wall mount is a tiny footprint, but they can also be set on tables or whatever around you. I found that they sound great whether behind you or to the side of you. They do have the ability to be plugged in via USB-C, but then they aren't really truly wireless. The Bluetooth of the sub is a great feature as you can place it anywhere! No latency that I have noticed. Both are heavy. The bar about 15lbs, the sub about 20lbs. The bar is just as wide as my mantle, which is where I placed it. It looks like a mantle on top of a mantle. Kinda funny. It is a very aesthetically pleasing unit. Strong build. If you are apprehensive about replacing a wired A/V system, I was too. The simplicity and the overall look that my living room now has was well worth the change. Sound wise, awesome. Maybe it is because my Sony STR-1040N was about 5 years old. And because of the wireless transmitters/receivers, occasionally I had some POP come out of the back speakers, which would scare the bejesus out of me. I bought it for $1699, then a week later it was reduced to $1399 and Best Buy honored the difference and refunded me $300. At the time of this writing (Aug 31), I see it is back up to $1699. Maybe wait and see if it drops again, but I was totally OK paying the $1699. I felt it was worth it and had/have absolutely NO buyer's remorse. I hope this helps. I tried to stay away from technicals to make it easier for the regular person interested in audio without all of the jargon. Good Luck!

Good sound bar when you actually figure out how to set it up correctly. It took me a couple days. First, my eARC port would not show up on my Samsung television that also had an eARC port. I troubleshooted the problem for about 5 days. I was going to return the whole system back to the store because I was going to keep something that cost upwards of $1800.00 dollars that did not work properly. I decided to go another room within the residence to try out the sound bar because I thought it had a faulty port. It work immediately on my other Samsung in the study as soon as I plugged it in. I then thought that it had to be the television's eARC port that was faulty. I didn't want the hassle of having to take an 85in television back to the store without damaging it somehow. I found out that I could connect it via bluetooth. I did that for a few days, however the sound bar would not turn on when I turn on the television. I had to turn the sound bar on separately with the remote. So, I gave it one last shot, or the system and television would be returned back to the store. I'm no sure what I did, but the eARC popped up on my television (somehow) and it was connect automatically. Now I enjoy that Dolby Atmos sound and it is amazing. I even disconnect the surround sound speakers and watched a movie. Absolutely amazing. Hey, it even turns on and off with my cable box remote control now. Recommend

This surround sound system absolutely changed our movie/video game nights. We’ve got it setup in our basement and it can get loud enough that I can still hear it if I step outside of the house. Bass is plentiful and so many options available to change the sound output. The quick detach speakers have a very strong magnet that holds them to the bar, so get ready to have to put some umph into pulling them out.

Get the 1300X! Don't cheat yourself by getting a lesser soundbar or even a lower grade. finance it and enjoy. The magic begins once you connect it to WiFi and update the firmware. The sound is just so detailed and crisp. The detachable speakers create a wonderful surround element, and they remain charged (wirelessly) for hours of use. The subwoofer is ridiculous. If you live in a condo, you will definitely need to keep the bass turned down, or your neighbors will be at your door for sure. The only thing Iit lacks are more robust sound effects options.

Bought this when it was on sale as I wanted to upgrade from my Samsung bar that I had for quite a few years. Every thing about this system is top tier, the sound quality, the app, and I most like the removable speakers for night listening. I highly recommend using the hdmi cable and connecting to eARC so you don’t need to use a second remote.

The sound bar is phenomenal- the audio quality is excellent, and we love the battery-powered surround speakers (my wife especially, as she was not a fan of permanent surround speakers with power cords in multiple spots). I do wish there was a bit more in regards to audio settings, but but it's built as more a set-it-and-forget-it system, so I guess what comes with it makes sense.
