    poor manual

Great sound, poor owners manual. Speaker paired and worked great right out of the box. Unfortunately, when I tried to pair it to a second phone, there were no indications in the provided manual how to do this. I had to call JBL support to figure this out (it turns out to be really easy, you just press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button for 3 seconds, and then it becomes available on the second phone's control panel). Too bad this wasn't in the manual. OK, maybe I'm dating myself, but the manual is one of those multilingual versions that is 18 pages long, but if you just have the English and Spanish, it would be about 1 page long. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for this. The manual reminds me of the nameplate they put on the Voyager spacecraft (yes, I'm old), using symbols instead of words, so if it were ever found by intelligent life in outer space, they would be able to understand our world without having knowledge of our languages or culture (yea, right). Even going to the JBL support page did not show any instructions for this function. The search window there even came up with the suggestion for things you can ask such as "charge 3 Bluetooth pairing", but when I typed this exact phrase in, it only returned one answered question for someone trying to use it as a speakerphone, not how to pair it in the first place to a second phone. Thank goodness the support guy could figure it out. They should take some of the paper and ink they use to make a fancy box (which I'm going to throw away), and print a useful manual.

    Outstanding until it broke

This speaker was tremendous. Even my 19- and 21-year old kids couldn't believe the sound quality that it possessed for such a smallish speaker. It seemed particularly good at presenting an audio experience across a broad spectrum - instead of being bass- and treble-heavy, the speaker gave good balance for the whole range. I kept hearing things I'd never heard in music I had listened to for years. I used it in the bathroom every morning while I was showering to help me WAKE UP! and get ready for my day. It was the best purchase I'd made in a long time. But then it broke. After something over a half-year of use, the speaker developed a buzz that kept getting worse until, after a few weeks of the buzzing, the speaker was no longer usable. I should have asked for warranty coverage from JBL but thought it might be fun to open it up with the kids, find the damaged part, and replace it. Of course, I haven't done that yet. But every day I wish I had - the larger speaker I replaced it with just does not sound as good.

I've had the JBL Charge 3 for about a week now and it's a nice little speaker. It's larger than the Bose SoundLink Mini which I've had for a few years now. Compared to the Bose, it sounds clearer at higher levels than the Bose does. The Charge 3 does not have the base sound that the Bose does, so if you listen to hip/hop that might be an issue, I myself do not listen to hip/hop but I do like my music with a little bit more base. It does have the option to connect to another charge 3 so that you can get a nice stereo sound if you so wish. I use this in my garage for background music and it works well for what it is. I'm only giving it three stars because I feel that the sound quality could be a little better, but all in all I'm still happy with my purchase and if you can get it for $99 it's not too bad a deal.

i am going to be honest here, i am a BOSE fan and head Soundlink 2 for 4 years and the battery started to drain slowly and this particular JBL speaker had some good reviews and was on sale and i thought i would give it a try and purchased it. It is not a bad speaker at all, it is a very loud speaker. If you don't care about sound quality this is a very budget friendly speaker and yes i still have it and will bring it to the beach with me, since it is water and dust resistance. The reason i brought up BOSE sound quality is because they are amplified so it sounds better thats all. So, after all again JBL charge 3 is not a bad speaker and i kept it and will use it for outdoors. Hope this review helps!

    Great Speaker, BUT

This speaker is nice. I really like the way it looks. However, I generally use my speakers in hotel and/or bedrooms (low to medium volume). I want full rich sound with good bass, the JBL Charge 3 just didn't deliver. Don't get me wrong if you turn up the volume on this bad boy it will give you some decent bass and it sounds very good. However, I ended up returning it even though I really hoped to keep it. I opted to get the Bose Soundlink Mini (on sale/open box saved $45 which put it almost the same price as the JBL Charge 3) and I must say this speaker gave me exactly what I was looking for especially at the lower volume. I dinged the JBL two stars because I was hoping that JBL had at last fixed the issue of weak bass at lower volume. I think JBL will sell plenty of these though because they are nice and being waterproof is a great option.

I purchased this speaker because I knew JBL was a good brand but in my case the speaker I purchased after about 4 or 5 months it became totally distorted. I wasn’t able to listen to any audio at all without distortion (popping noises, crackling). I contacted JBL via phone and they carried me through their process of exchange. The process was very easy. I sent my speaker out after, they received it, they sent a new one back to me. I’m currently using the one they sent me for about a month now and I haven’t had an issue yet.

    Only one problem

This is a great sounding speaker. I didn't give it 5 stars because it doesn't properly pair up with a second speaker as the specs said it would. I paired two of these together, and they sounded great at first, but then one of them started to get a lot of static and would cut out all together. I took the one speaker back and exchanged it for a new one. It did the same thing. If you're buying this as a stand alone speaker, you should be extremely happy with the sound. Just dont expect to be able to pair two of them together. I was hoping to put one of these in my kitchen, and the second one in my living areas while entertaining.

Sounds ok, nice battery, compared to Flip 4

This is a nice speaker with long battery life. The treble on this speaker is noticeably muted compared to a Flip 4 and a Bose Soundlink Mini. The Flip 4 is significantly brighter and more detailed. I also think the treble is a bit less than the old Charge 2 I used to own. I expected this speaker to be significantly louder than my Flip 4, but it isn't. Bass is a bit stronger than the Flip 4, but not as much as you might expect when looking at the size difference between the two speakers. The Flip 4 is more impressive with respect to the sound quality you get from a very small and light form factor. Battery life is more impressive than the Flip 4's battery life.

My mother bought my son a JBL - Charge 3 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker for Christmas. This is what he really wanted. He used the speaker continuously, He loved it, but than the speaker started to sound muttered. My son looked it up and learned that this speaker has issues with a wire coming lose. This is what we think happened, so now I have to pay to get this wire reconnected. I would not recommend paying this much money for something that doesn't last.

Would be an awesome little speaker if it had the highs of the flip 4. Assuming Charge 4 will get same flip 4 upgrades and sound much better. Perfect size, charge out option, pair with other JBL speakers, rugged and waterproof, loud, and long battery life,......but had to return it due to lack of highs. Also sounds confined after listening to 360 speakers like fugoo xl and Bose Revolve. Would be perfect with deeper bass like fugoo xl, tweeters, and top or rear speakers for 360 emersive sound. I would pay more for those features.

    Annoying sound at start up

I like most things about the JBL Charge 3 but I don't recommend it. When the speaker is first turned on it makes a loud noise for a few seconds. That's OK if you are at a party but if you want to turn it on while others in the house are sleeping, it's a problem. I contacted JBL and they told me that the start up tone is standard in all of their portable speakers. That's a reason for me to avoid their products in the future.

This speaker has great sound. Only issue I have is after having one month. One of the speakers started to sound very staticky. The speaker will connect to more than one device at a time. It was connected to my cell phone and my laptop at the same time. Volume levels were different. Kinda confusing to explain but iPhone volume is controlled by speaker volume controls and laptop is independent. A notification from my phone goes off very loudly and blew the speaker. Hope JBL will replace.

So far this is the best speaker ive tried so far at bestbuy, well, that i like. Sonys, not even close. Bose, i would of kept it ONLY if it wasnt constantly searching for a bluetooth signal, ue i didnt like because the charging port is on the bottom and laying it sideways to charge disorts the sound and beats isnt waterproof. The only downfall, just recently i noticed the bluetooth range hasnt been as good. Its ok but it sometimes gets crackling when youre farther away.

This speaker clarity is super great but only thing is: it doesn’t get as loud as I thought it would. I have the JBL Flip 3 and it’s pretty good for its size. I think I expected too much when it came to the bigger one. I will say when connecting the two, it was awesome. The connectivity feature is awesome and super easy. It does have that surroundsound type of a effect and that’s what it makes it stand out from the competition.

This was my 2nd JBL Bluetooth speaker. I bought the smaller version last year for my son's BD and he loved it until the plug area to charge it broke. I purchased this model for him this year but he did not like it. Although the sound is great, the speaker is a little too big, plus the area where the speaker sits on this JBL is easily more vulnerable to damage should it accidently fall. I ended returning it and just gave my son a gift card.

The jbl charge 3 is a good speaker, unfortunately the lack of battery life at full volume makes it fall short of being a great speaker. I use it st work, I operate a forklift in a warehouse on a 10 hour shift. The battery tends to die at around the 8 hour point, I've tried 2 different jbl charge 3's as well. For a battery that can get 20 hours, 8 is way short of that. My only other complaint is I wish it could go a little louder.

Sorry to hear if you were not satisfied with our product. Music play time with the CHARGE 3 when fully charged is up to 20 hours, varies by volume level and audio content. Extended playing of audio at a maximum volume level will drain the battery faster due to higher power consumption. JBL

I initially was interested in this product due to my love for JBL Audio products. The sound quality is great and I enjoyed connecting the product with me portable devices. Once I connected it with my MacBook I noticed diminished volume but the quality was still acceptable. This product is great for connection with handheld devices.

I’ve bought two. The first developed a death rattle after about a year ( I had already bought a second by them) and JBL wouldn’t accept the unit back without the original box. My son had ditched it by then do I bought an ultimate ears megaboom as a replacement. It’s worth the extra $15.

Sound is smooth, with emphasis on mid-bass (there isn't really any low bass) and de-emphasis of high end (at least it's not screechy or tinny - and that's good). OK for casual listening. VERY ANNOYING: makes a bunch of boing! bing! tweedle! noises when you turn it on AND when you turn it off. Who needs that?
