I initially purchased the Charge 4 as a standalone single Bluetooth speaker. On it's own...it does sound very good with a full and deep sound with some nice punch to the bass. But then I figured two of these, in stereo mode via the JBL connect app, would even sound better. But that's where the trouble begins! The app is absolute CRAP, completely unstable and the continuous static, switching between stereo mode to party mode (party mode is the same mono sound to each speaker), trying to get the speakers into stereo mode just isn't worth the hassle! I have no idea what JBL was thinking by requiring an app to get the speakers into stereo mode instead of being able to switch between party and stereo mode by either a quick press or long press of the connect button on the JBL Charge 4. When the speakers are synced up and in stereo mode and when working...they sound incredible. So that is why I spent days trying to get this setup to work. Factory reset the speakers. Uninstall and re-install the app on my phone. Reboot phone. Make sure no other Bluetooth audio devices were connected to phone, etc. NOTHING worked! Just more unstable crackling audio and constant switching between stereo and party mode! Seriously JBL...you can't get this fixed!? Anyhow...I'll be sending one of these speakers back to Best Buy. I maybe give this another shot in a few months should JBL decide to make it actually work! Drew

We appreciate the feedback you've provided to us. We're working to resolve this as soon as possible. We suggest you use the Party Mode for the meantime as we still don't have an estimated date on when the Stereo Mode function will be updated and resolved within the Connect app. Thanks for your understanding. I was so excited for this speaker. Unfortunately after syncing it up to my phone, easy by the way, I noticed after 2-3 songs it stops playing. I was using Spotify, so I tried Amazon music, same results. I tried it with my husband's phone, same cut off. We turned off screensaver mode on our phones, still cuts off. I tried a factory reset and no fix. Unfortunately, I waited too long trying to self fix and it is now past my return/exchange window so I'm stuck with this expensive speaker that won't work. Do not recommend!

Only lasted me less than a month and it wouldn't charge after. Tried to do an exchange but the store wanted me to pay the difference of the price today even tho I wanted the exact same item. Got an attitude by the service clerk so I ended up just refunding the item....I really wanted to keep it too. Bad experience even by the custome care team misguided me when asking why I had to pay a difference.

Piece of crap—ended up smashing it to get it to stop making the dumb sound it makes when it runs on and off. Tried factory resetting it, but the speaker just kept looping on and then off, and then on again... for three days straight! Finally gave up, ands put it in the trash. Complete waste of money, and I will never buy anything JBL again.

Sound quality is great but volume is horrible. As for battery life, it lasted pretty long after the first charge, after charging it the 2nd time for over 5 hours(it takes a long time to get a full charge) it only lasted 30 minutes. It’s too late to return because you only have 15 days to return merchandise. My suggestion is find a better speaker than this one.

I had 4 of these, pairing them was a nightmare. You have to pair the xtras each time. Does not always work. App STINKS. Forget stereo mode. If you need one speaker these are fine. Sound great by the way. If you want multiple speakers, move on to another system, I ended up with Sonos.

This is the second time I bought this exact model. The first one I purchased from Overstock had the same exact problem. It is supposed to have 20 hours of battery/play time. However, it always goes dead anywhere between 1 to 8 hours after turning on, even when it was fully charged. Also, it doesn’t charge. You can have it plugged in all day and it just doesn’t charge. I’ve tried different outlets & tried a hard reset, a couple times. This thing is a piece of crap Also, now I can’t return or exchange for a different brand. Was evacuated during fires in CA recently, which is why I only just started using the speaker (we just were allowed back home). I understand the 30 day return policy. However, in this circumstance it’s quite frustrating

My daughter competes in martial arts and we were looking for a portable, bluetooth speaker that could handle a big arena. Unfortunately, this is not it! It is a nice speaker - very user friendly and portable but not the bang we needed.

I bought two of these to take advantage of the Stereo mode. When in stereo mode, there's a crackling sound, like a loose wire. I only use them once a week, and after exchanging another speaker that I thought was the problem, then a delay in my weekly use of the devices due to the ice storm in Texas, I used my new speaker and this one again this morning and had the same crackling issue in Stereo mode. And of course I'm nine days late for Best Buy's return policy...

This speaker has good sound but poor battery quality. I got it because its supposed to last 20 hours. I was working 10 hour days so I thought it would work great. The first day the charge didn't last. Figured it was because it was just out the box. Gave it a few more days. It won't even last 5 hours on a single charge so I can't even use it to charge my phone if I wanted to. Very limited support through the application for the JBL speakers.

Loved the item until it stopped charging. Went back to store to return and was told I only had 14 days. Well during those 14 days it was actually working and really didnt need to charge it as it does have 20 hours of use. Now they are making me through jbl which is obviously a mission. If this was the case I would have just bought direct from them. There was a time when companies would have exchanged the item and then dealt with the vendor themselves.

I bought one and returned it because at the time I thought it was defective. The second one did the same think. (sound cutting in and out.) I thought it was a problem with my HDMI cable, but it wasn't. I returned the second one and got a Bose model 416776 and it works perfectly. No sound cutting out and great sound from Bose. Will never buy JBL again. Will stick with Bose.

Have had JBL since charge 2, charge 3, xtrem 1&2 all best sounding speakers loved every one of them. Then I purchased this new release charge 4 could not believe the poor quality sound out of it it’s a big step back from older models. Extremely disappointed hope they step back up or it’s time to shop other brands.

Terrible sound. Definitely disappointed, I think I have a lemon however, it didn’t sound like this in the store. Be careful Covid made all return policies so much more strict, it’s not anoint the consumer, the retailers can do whatever they want charge u treat u and it’s accepted now I guess.

We're sorry to hear about what happened. Here are some troubleshooting steps for us to check your JBL Charge 4:

      1. Please try using a different music player and if you're using an equalizer, turn it off.
      2. Try using am Aux cable to check if the sound will be the same compared to Bluetooth.
      3. Try using a different source ex. (phone, tablet) To check if you'll experience the same problem using a different device.

If steps 1-3 didn't work, you can also reset the speaker:
In order to reset the Charge 4, with the unit on, press “Volume+” and “Bluetooth” at the same time for 3-4 seconds until you hear the audible chime.

If the problem persists, please contact us so we can check your options: https://support.jbl.com/us/en/#contact JBL
