JBL EON One - Great Compact PA System

Wow! The JBL EON One Compact is a professional portable PA system with numerous applications for many different venues in life. Whether using a condensing mic, guitar, keyboard, or Bluetooth device it delivers a sound that is clear and tonal without loud vibration frequencies. The amplified sound is melodic whether the sound is delivered through music or vocals.
Weighing just 17.6 lbs., its compact size measures 15 ¾”H x 10 W x 11 ½” D. Cased in a durable polypropylene body with a perforated steel grille, the EON One Compact is designed with a molded ergonomic handle and since it’s so light and small, this definitely makes for easy carry. It delivers 100 degrees of its sound horizontally and 60 degrees vertically and can be used upright or laid on its side.
Pragmatically designed with a built-in two-way powered mixer, 8” woofer and 1” tweeter, this 4 channel PA system demonstrates functionality and independence and its obvious that many considerations were given during the design process because of its many additional features. It has a frequency response of 37.5 Hz – 20kHz and provides 2 - XLR/TRS combo jacks, 1 - ¼” Hi-Z, and 1 – 1/8” aux Input jacks. Outputs include 1 – 1/8” headphone jack, 1- ¼” pass thru. The power button, master volume, CH selector for Input of gain and tone adjustments and 4 - CH mode/mix controls that can either be used alone or to adjust the Gain are all on the unit.
Built in effects (Reverb, delay, chorus) and other tonal fine tunings can be controlled along with an 8-band output equalizer, customized saved presets, and the 4-channel mixer by using the JBL Compact Connect app. For stereo sound just connect two of these units thru the ¼” pass thru output jack and control them by using the app. Up to four (4) units can be connected and all can be controlled through the app. At 112 dB Output this product has the highest volume in its class.
Another considerate feature of the JBL EON One that works well is the one touch ducking for voice over music/vocals. If spoken word is initiated through the mic, the volume of the music will duck down. Phantom power supports any condenser mic and we have been using one that is cardioid dynamic 48V. It works great and the sound delivery is professional. It delivers a very clear speech and musical sound without any distortion.
The JBL EON One also has 2 external charging USB ports. Audio streaming can occur up to 30 feet, but I like to just listen to an old favorite 60s radio station (WAKY) out of Louisville KY on my iPad and stream it through the speaker when I am working around home or in my office. The iPad can charge continuously by using one of the USB ports and rest in the built-in tablet stand.
The battery life, charging and battery change-out are also components of this product that have been carefully considered. A full charge while not in use takes about 2.5 hours. While in use it takes a little longer to fully charge and does take up to about 6 hours. If the PA system is being used for long periods of time, the battery is supposed to last up to 12 hours. (We have not used it continuously that long yet to have evaluated exactly how long the battery life extends.) And even though the system can be used while powered with electricity, a tool-free swappable battery option provides for an additional 12 hours of use on an additional Lithium Ion battery.
Whether a singer/songwriter, solo performer, band, professor, educator, DJ, community leader, religious speaker, coach, presentation consultant, fitness instructor, emcee, or just a corporation or hotel looking for an all in one PA system that is compact, lightweight and professional, this is the unit to own. Its many uses go farther than mentioned here, and it should be the top choice for wherever one might need a portable, lightweight, quality, professional PA system that does it all. I really like this system and definitely recommend that you take a look at this one!

Excellent all day portable PA

If you're looking for a compact portable PA system with bluetooth, or even a simple speaker/mixer setup, the JBL EON ONE has you covered. I was excited to get my hands on this speaker as I used to do pro audio setups and was always fascinated by the compact all-in-one units. Having a built-in battery, mixer, and amplifier make them convenient for everything from parties to presentations to events to just enjoying some tunes. But while the EON ONE is a great do it all speaker, it does have few drawbacks. Let’s dig in.
DESIGN
The EON ONE is matte black all over and about the size of a medium bookshelf speaker. It's surprisingly "light" at 18lbs with a sturdy and spacious handle built into the top of the speaker that makes it fairly easy to carry. I genuinely appreciate how rugged the body feels as PA speakers get transported and bumped often, so they have to be able to withstand abuse. The knobs are the only potential weak spot I can see, but they're slightly recessed below the body which should help protect them. There's a wide slot on the top of the speaker that works as a phone/tablet mount which is a clever design trick. The speaker is also made to lay horizontally with rubber feet on the angled side so it stays properly tilted up as a monitor. My only gripe about the design is that I wish the knobs had detents. It's a minor detail and personal preference, but the tactile feedback of the knobs are the only part of the speaker that felt lacking to me.
SOUND
It took a bit of tuning, but this is an excellent sounding speaker! At first it seemed a bit flat, but there's knobs for adjusting the bass and treble on the fly, and if connected to the app it unlocks even more tuning control with a 5 band EQ. Unfortunately, I had connection issues with the app so I wasn't able to use these features yet, but that can be fixed with a future software update. However, don't let that dismay you. The app isn't necessary and I was able to get the sound where I wanted with just the bass, treble, and reverb controls (which can be adjusted individually for each input). What's surprising about this speaker is how loud and clear it can play with minimal distortion. Granted, it's a compact PA speaker so don't expect rumbling bass, but it offers decent punch in the midbass with smooth and clear vocals. I was kind of expecting the tweeter to be overly bright for some reason but the highs were relaxed and natural. I want to say it's tuned a bit towards vocals, but it actually does pretty well as a main speaker too. Coupled with the wireless convenience of bluetooth and a looooong lasting battery, it was perfect for outdoor movie night. But it's so much better than a bluetooth speaker, because you can hook up 2 microphones and boom, movie night becomes karaoke night.
FUNCTION
The JBL EON ONE is simple to use, but you might need to look up the manual to figure it out the first time. The inputs are self explanatory with two XLR-1/4" mic jacks, a 1/4" line-in, a 1/8" line-in, a 1/4" pass through jack, and 2 USB slots. Every knob or button has a label, but at first it's a little confusing which does what and when. 4/5 knobs are dual purpose, so their function changes depending on if it's in MIX or CH mode. In MIX mode, each knob works as gain control for the input it's assigned to, but in CH mode the knobs change to either gain, treble, bass, or reverb control. If you're wondering why the treble/bass/reverb doesn't seem to be adjusting, make sure you're in the right mode. Yes, this sounds obvious, but you'll be surprised how often it happens. The knobs have a smooth motion and the levels are gauged by a circle of light that completes itself if you turn it all the way up. If you're looking for a dial with detents or numbers, you're out of luck, it's all tuning by ear here. Which is really what we end up doing anyway, so not a big deal. One of the most impressive features of this speaker is the replaceable 12 hour battery, which seems to actually last that long and is super easy to replace. I was honestly a bit surprised that JBL made it swappable, because electronic companies seem to all be going the fixed battery route these days, so big ups to them. Plus, all you need is 1 more battery and you essentially have 24 hours of non-stop sound. The fact that it can play this long and loud while weighing less than most car batteries is outstanding to me. It even has 2 USB ports to charge your devices!
OVERALL
If you're looking for a compact PA speaker, or even just a powered bluetooth speaker with a built-in mixer, definitely give the JBL EON ONE a listen. It's super portable, well built, easy to use, sounds great, and has a battery that can go all day.

Great Sound

The JBL Eon One is a great portable PA system. The design on this thing is very unique, I really like the way JBL made this. It actually has 3 listening positions, plus you can also mount it on a speaker stand. My favorite position is the horizontal angled position, this makes it easy for the sound to shoot out upward, while still being able to keep it on the ground. The speaker is also fairly lightweight, and with the built in handle on the top of the speaker - it makes it easy to carry around.
I like how JBL implemented the controls on the speakers, they give you many options for customizing the sound, as well as including several different types of connections. For instance, there are bluetooth, XLR connectors, 1/4in connectors, aux, headphone and USB which also allows you to charge your devices. A very useful feature that I found to be awesome is the built in phantom power - built into the XLR connector. This is a feature that not many portable speakers offer, which allows you to use a mic that requires phantom power. Let's not forget that the Eon also has a built in amp that lets you connect musical instruments. The knobs and power indicators are really slick. instead of an arrow indicator on the volume knobs, there is actually a green LED light around the knob that lights up - indicating where your vol is at. The LED lights are built in around all the equalizer knobs as well.
As I mentioned before, the JBL Eon gives you plenty of sound customization with the built in knobs. They have your basic standard controls like; treble, bass and gain, but they also include reverb and mix mode as well. (The reverb gives you that echoey sound). All these controls let you fine tune your sound, whether you want to listen to music, or connect your guitar to it and perform for an audience. JBL also has an app you can download from the App Store that gives you even more in depth controls.
The battery power for the Eon is great. It comes with a rechargeable battery that's rated for 12hours on a single charge. I am surprised that a speaker with so much power and functionality can operate on a single charge for up to 11+ hours. Also there is a nice built in battery indicator made out of a green LED light which shows your current battery power.
Now for the final discussion, the thing that this speaker was designed to do, and that's sound quality...The sound quality on the Eon, is superb and it can get extremely LOUD. The sound gives off a very crisp and detailed sound, not to bright, but also not to much bass - just perfect in my opinion. Plus with all the fine tuning you can do, you can be sure to achieve your desired sound. The speaker is equipped with an 8" subwoofer as well as 1" tweeters for precise sound that gets up to 112db.
Overall, the JBL Eon One is the perfect portable PA system, that offers amazing sound, portability, good battery life and great customization controls. With all the features and amazing sound, I found that this makes for the perfect speaker and I would highly recommend this to anyone.

JBL EON ONE Compact – Disappointing for the Price
My son had saved up the money for this speaker and had high expectations for it, especially considering its $600 price tag, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them. The sound quality isn’t as loud or clear as he had hoped, which was a big letdown. For something marketed as a professional-grade portable speaker, he expected better clarity and more power. My husbands Milwaukee speaker sounds better.
One of the biggest frustrations was that he wasn't able to test it in-store before purchasing. Once he got it home and gave it a try, he realized it wasn’t what he wanted (he's 16). Unfortunately, by the time we had a chance to take it back, the 15-day return window had already passed. Since we live an hour away from the nearest Best Buy, making a return trip within that timeframe wasn’t practical.
For the price, he was expecting something much more impressive. If you’re considering this speaker, I’d strongly recommend finding a way to test it first to make sure it meets your needs. Otherwise, you might end up stuck with an expensive purchase that doesn’t deliver.

Love this amp… the app was a little tricky to get used to but once I got it it has worked fine. Only think it’s missing is usb interface to record directly out of it and use iPad apps like loopers and whatnot… but other than that this thing is exactly what I was looking for.

Great Bass and Tone - Lower than Expected Volume

There are a lot of features to this JBL PA system. It is my first and generally speaking, I am happy with it. The bass is great, very strong and clean. Tones are very clear. My only surprise is that the maximum volume is lower than I expected. I have tried the various connections and all the results are very similar. I am not at all disappointed with the sound quality, just thought I would be able to use this in front of a relatively large crowd in a larger conference room or banquet room. This won’t be enough for some of the larger rooms but will work in a setting where you would have about 30 people and a minimal amount of background noise.
The music lowering when you are using the microphone, is an excellent feature. Referred to as “ducking” and new to me but works out really well when I’m using it in various situations. There are ample connections including USB ports, a dedicated guitar jack, aux input and Bluetooth.
The box is well built and isn’t overly heavy weighing in at about 17 pounds. The handle is well placed as well and makes it easy to carry anywhere. The removable battery is a good feature and on my initial couple uses, has lasted several hours each time. They advertise 12 hours and I’d imagine that is very close.
I would highly recommend this for smaller audiences or rooms where you won’t have to compete with loud outside noises. The sound is crisp and I enjoy using it in all areas where I want to listen to music as well.
