    At $300 this thing packs a punch both soundwise and hardware-wise. I mean look at it, it looks like a missile. It's heavy too but the attachable strap is a very nice touch and makes it more portable. It definitely doesn't feel cheap to the touch. The sound is where it's a bit uneven. Now please know, I understand music over Bluetooth has its limitations, it just does. That being said the bass is amazing for being a Bluetooth speaker. At times the bass tends to overwhelm the mids and highs. Download an app with a good equalizer if that really bothers you. Now the 2 big issues. As big as this thing is you would think it would be ridiculously loud. Sadly it's not. (I noticed it plays louder when plugged in to power vs when running on battery) My Big Jambox was louder and sounded better. My other beef with this speaker is it eats the first 2 to 3 seconds of the beginning of each song. One thing that gives me hope is the software can be upgraded on this thing. So I'm hoping future software upgrades will make this thing louder (it just has to get louder, it's too big not too) and eliminate the issue with the beginning of each song.

    I ultimately purchased a UE Megaboom over this speaker because of the JBL Xtreme's sound profile. The JBL Xtreme is a nice speaker, but it actually has way too much bass for my taste. The battery lasts the time advertised and some depending on how loud you crank it. By the way, this speaker is loud and distortion free at high volumes. One thing i should mention about volume is that when this speaker is plugged in, it is louder and clearer than when it is on battery power. The volume is very good, I had this speaker competing with an ion block rocker at the creek me and my buddies hang out by and it was winning. This speaker is slightly heavy, but the carry strap makes it manageable. Charging this speaker is facilitated by a proprietary plug, as an owner of a Harman Kardon Onyx, it is the exact same plug and i didnt like that. The UE Megaboom i now have charges via a micro USB connection which makes it a better speaker for outdoor adventures since i can charge it from my power bank. What ultimately sold me on the Megaboom was the fact that it was waterproof while the JBL was only water resistant. I had to hover by the JBL while i was at the creek out of fear that it would fall in. With my Megaboom, i no longer have to worry.

    Superior Sound, but I will not buy again

    Pros: Volume Bass Waterproof Wireless Charge other devices from it Cons: Too much bass, should have on/off option No easy carry Stops playing music when any notification sound goes off Sound quality weakened overtime Became defective after 7-30days The speaker is amazing in terms of sound/volume. It has amazing bass, but at times it was not needed & seemed to be a bit excessive. If only there were a button to turn on/off to control that. I wish there was an easier way to carry the speaker without having to attach a shoulder strap (that is provided). My MAJOR complaint is with the Bluetooth connection. Within a month of using it regularly, it would not pair as easily as it first did. So I kept having to tell my devices to “forget it” and it would pair after doing so just fine. It was also annoying when the speaker would stop playing a song everytime I received a notification. Also I started having problems with the sound, it would not let me up the volume and at times it would sound as if someone had a pillow over the speaker (just so you can picture the sound) It was very bizarre, but i could never get it back to its original sound. I exchanged the first one as defective for the exact speaker and within the first week it started showing the same similar issues. I wished this speaker worked like it should have. I returned the second speaker.

    Battery issues

    I love this speaker. It sounds amazing, however, I feel this company needs to improve the battery. I'm currently on my second speaker (current one replaced by the company after the first one I bought only worked if it was plugged in after only a year of normal use). Current one is behaving similarly after a year and a few months of use (I take good care of my electronics; this unit has never left my house nor have I ever dropped it or damaged it in any way). It only lasts 20-30 minutes after being charged all night and during the day while I'm work. Very disappointing.

    Great sound but....

    I've had this speaker since 11/2015 and received it as gift. I am thrilled with sound, but the battery life was never what they claimed it to be. Out of the box it would work for about 3.5 hours before needing a charge. No we did not task it with charging a phone while it played. It quickly degraded to run for about an hour on full charge and by the end of summer 2016 it would only last about :20 minutes. JBL customer service replaced it for me, but the refurbished one I received doesn't charge right either and lasts only about :45 minutes at best.

    I've been a fan of JBL for a long time, I've owned their bluetooth speakers for years. This speaker sounds great, but I do have a complaint. One of the reasons I upgraded to this speaker was the multiple speaker wireless connection. It works...sometimes. When ever I hook up multiple speakers, the connection cuts out and gets interrupted and the music pauses itself. Pretty upset about that, but overall, as a stand alone speaker, in my opinion, you can't beat it.

    Great Sound, short bluetooth range

    Heard and read alot of good reviews online. The sound is loud and the bass has a nice kick, however, if I step away from it the sound starts cutting out. Just so the reader can imagine, I was playing music while washing my mid-size pickup truck. The speaker was set near the front of the vehicle. If I was near the back side of the vehicle, the sound would start to cut out. There are other instances as well at even shorter ranges with the sound cutting out. Love the sound, needs better Bluetooth signal.

    Good sounding speaker w/ horrible battery life

    It's possible we got a lemon, but this thing simply doesn't hold a charge. Within an hour of unplugging it, it's completely drained of power. Unfortunately, we didn't realize this until a couple months after purchase when we took it on a road trip with us. It's a good sounding speaker, but not good for anything but listening at home or near a power outlet

    (+) Got this item from BB a few months ago...less than 12 months for sure. GREAT sound, beats other bluetooth speakers hands down IMHO...received complements from other people regarding how they like the way it sounds. (-) It is expensive and the battery in my unit last only 30 mins even after it has been fully charged!!! I would give it 5 stars except for the battery issue.

    The speakers sounds good at low volumes but if you get the volume any higher than 60% the side speaker or passive resonators will start to make a popping like is to much to handle and frankly I don't see the big hype about this speaker because id does not sound big at all. Overall i think is very overpriced for what you get. Even the Bose soundlink sounds better and louder than this

For example, you may be using an EQ in your phone, in order to make your headphones sound the way you want. This may be boosting the bass, which will end up being too much for the XTREME. The best setting is FLAT or NO EQ. This should stop the popping sound that you are hearing. JBL

    Speaker sounds good but seems to have connectivity issues. On several occasions, it has not connected properly and the sound comes and goes, very annoying! I am thinking about having to connect my phone directly to it with a cable to eliminate the issue, but I shouldn't have to do this,this is why I bought a Bluetooth speaker

    Close but no cigar

    I was close to clicking on buying two of them but the use of a non-standard charger stopped me. I have enough power bricks to sink a boat so I didn't want yet another two of them to try to remember where they hooked up to. Change it to a standard charging system and it would be golden.

    Bass distortion

    Bass Distortion is a problem with the speaker I have large Bluetooth speakers this one cannot keep up. Battery life is fine works perfect. Only problem is with low frequencies. Other than that it works fine.

    It's a good device, but...

    I have to write here it's a good device. It has a weak point in my opinion though. This speaker has a very, very strong treble that spoils the result sound at very high volume. Besides that, the device has good sound power and it's indicated to parties and barbecue.

    My speaker was charged full, my listening time was two hours.I plug my phone in,to charge and the speaker died once the phone was fully charged.( if charging a device through the speaker make sure the speaker is charging as the same)

    Great sound weak battery

    I've had two of these now and I wanted to get s second one because I thought maybe I got a defective battery the first time, but I loved the waterproof & sound but the battery on both seem die after the warranty ends

    I bought this to use in my car. The sound is pretty good but not good enough. The base and the volume it can achieve are the biggest problem. The bottom of the speaker doesn't have a big enough flat spot (base) to keep it from rolling around.

    The volume output and battery life of this little speaker are amazing. This is actually my second speaker, the first one I purchased stopped taking a charge due to accidental...and unidentifiable damage to the pin in the charging Jack.

    It is quite a large speaker. But the sound quality and power was a lot less than I had hoped for. I purchased the UE Megaboom instead. And really recommend the UE Megaboom for its great sound, bass, and good size.

    I purchased this speaker because it was on sale. Honestly, it sounded pretty decent, it was loud let me tell you that but the treble was disappointing and the bass was flat.
