Unfinished Business...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The JLabs Epic Air ANC True Wireless earbuds simply aren’t there yet. Initial Setup Setup was quick after the initial full charge. Across two Android devices – a Samsung S10+ and a One Plus 8 – the earbuds were recognized & paired smoothly. No app required. Having said that, the JLabs website states that their app gives the customer full control over hardware settings and performance. If those options are there, I certainly could not find them. What I did find was a ‘Burn In’ routine that encompasses 20 minutes of white noise and frequency sweeps, but nothing more. No ANC control, no EQ, nada. The app seems primarily geared towards being a JLabs store-front. A big let down and pretty much unacceptable in this day & age. Build Quality The construction of these earbuds feels good. The shape, the angle of insertion to the ear canal and the extensions are pretty run of the mill. Nothing ground shaking here. The charging case is OK and holds more than an adequate level of reserve power. The case can be charged wirelessly or with the attached (and rather short) USB cable. I would have preferred a USB-C port on the base of the charging/storage unit. From the looks of it, it would appear that JLabs thought most customers would be primarily using a wireless charging surface. Maybe that’s a good assumption but I still think having a USB-C connector would have been more current, way more flexible and not length limited … and state-of-the-art. The kit comes with a vast assortment of ear pieces, so finding a comfortable fit shouldn’t be an issue for most. Performance The sound quality before and after a 5 hour ‘Burn In’ demonstrated no appreciable improvement in sound. All in all, the customer is left to their own devices (mobile software) to contour the sound. With separate software controlled Bass Boost and EQ shaping, I was unable to achieve a pleasing sound character from these earbuds. All music sounded like it was emanating from a tin can and there was an edginess of noise that throws a veil over everything. I was left feeling pretty disappointed. Call quality is about on par with most every other earbud offering I’ve tried. Cannot comment on the ANC performance because I found no way to test it with it on vs. off. Pros: Diminutive design with a compact, easy to carry charging/storage case and a great assortment of ear pieces Charges quickly and has intuitive LED indicator lighting on both the charging case and the buds Built-in wireless case charging for those that like that method Cons: I would simply rate these as one of the worst sounding wireless earbud pairs that I’ve ever experienced USB slot-finger connector on a super short integrated cable seems like a cost cutting after-thought Useless mobile app; appears to be unfinished Disconnection issues

Posted .We do have an App that lets you fully customize the controls and are sorry you weren't able to locate this in the Google Play stores. This app is called the JLab Air ANC App. Please contact our support team so we can help you find that. We believe with access to the app all your other concerns will go away. -JLab Audio

I love/hate these earbuds!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I were to give a rating based solely on the feature set of these buds, they would be a solid 5 star product. In fact, they're unmatched at this price point. You get user-controllable ANC, user-controllable pass-through sound (JLab calls it "Be Aware"), feature-laden app support, customizable touch controls, in-ear sensors for auto play/pause, Qi wireless charging, mono-mode for single ear listening, insane battery life, and more. That's the love part of this review. Here's the "yes, but" you knew was coming... The sound quality is average for this price point. It isn't bad, not by a long shot, but it's not jaw-dropping either. Fit isn't stellar either, despite having a wide range of tip sizes, including a memory foam pair (yet another win). I think it's because they're relatively heavy at 7 grams each. I even purchased a full set of memory foam tips from JLab directly to try that out. Also, the case, although very premium looking with it's vegan leather veneer, is monstrously huge and very noticable if carried in a front pocket of jeans and even loose-fitting trousers. I have a pair of FIIL T1-XS buds that have many of these features, not all of them (no ANC!), and even fewer that can be customized. Also, you need the app to access different EQ modes. NOTE: with the JLabs, you can do this right from the touch controls. But dang it, the FIILs sound so much better and only weigh 3.5 grams. The reason that I hate these Jlabs is bc I WANT so much to love them. Seriously, if you look for buds with ALL of the features I mentioned above, you're likely to spend at least double the price, but probably much more than that. But in the end, doesn't sound quality matter most?

Good product, maybe just got a defective one
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had these buds for about a month now and used them pretty regularly. I have been overall happy with the purchase and the quality. My girlfriend also has them and hasn't experienced any issues and is very pleased. However for my pair, I am currently in the process of a warranty return for a few reasons: -With the ANC on, the left earbud audibly crackles, whereas the right earbud only has a soft white noise. -For the whole product, if I'm walking and the Auto Play/Pause is on, the earbuds with randomly stop and resume play when they shift in my ears. I turn off this mode but every time I put the buds back in the case it resets to a default of on. -The right and left earbud seem to lose battery at different rates (I took them out of the case at the same time fully charged and now the right is at 80% and the left is at 95%). -When I'm using the Be Aware mode (a great feature) and there is a loud sound (like a cabinet closing) the left earbud seems to cut off the mics and then slowly restores it (I know because I all of a sudden I can ear better in the right ear than the left). -Finally, it also seems that the left earbud isn't as secure as the right (I've tried every tip and it still shifts about 5x more than using the small tip on my right earbud). I'm not sure if my ears are really weird or something is up with the earbud itself. I assume many of these issues will get resolved with a new set of earbuds and I'll update my review then. I will say though that for $50 the quality of these is much greater than Airpod Pros and they offer a great value. Just wish mine worked well right out of the box!

All good except the ANC
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The headphones look great, fit very smug once you have the right tips (go foam) and do what they say on the box. Mostly. The ambient sound mode is great, the in ear detection is a nice extra and they come with an app that allows you to adjust how hard ANC is working, how much ambient sound is passed through, the EQ's (4 defined), the touch controls and finally, update the software. Great feature list for the price. My only negative would be the ANC. If that's your buying point, look elsewhere. The ANC is not so much active noise cancellation as it is white noise played over the passive noise cancellation created by the buds sealing the ear canal. Maybe an update will help this. Sound is important to me but it is also subjective so my option is worthless to you but you're getting it anyway. I would like more bass, clarity is fine and so is volume produced I have 1-2 more clicks if needed. Overall sound is acceptable, nothing to write home about. I have taken a few calls on them. Never had a problem with being heard. I have not tested in crazy noise environments like a coffee shop before covid. Overall for $50, I think I'm happy but I am also a frugal shopper and would not be happy had I spend $100. I would not recommend to a friend based on the poor ANC and sound is just a little off for my high standards. If later updates solve one of these problems, maybe my opinion will chance.

Get them on sale to maximize savings
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have both the JLab Epic Air ANC, and the JBuds ANC, and I have been using them for the past 2 weeks regularly. Believe it or not, I prefer the JBuds ANC, and here is why. For the price of $69 it's a better buy than the $99 Epic Air ANC. The JBuds have a better sound and it gets at least 2 clicks louder than the Epic ANC. Also the JBuds ANC have better ANC performance due to blocking more of the ear canal naturally. The only thing the Epic ANC has over the JBuds is a subpar app that allows u to customize controls and EQ, but the default settings of the JBuds is fine. All in all, the Epic ANC is decent if u want all the extra bells and whistles such as wireless charging and an extended battery life. You will not be disappointed if you spend the $99, especially if you get them half off on sale like I did, I just think the better value is with the JBuds. The 2 complaints I have is the fit, because they have a longer stem to insert in your ear, it can be inserted pretty deep, causing ear fatigue en route to chasing that perfect seal, and also when the ANC is turned all the way up, you can hear white noise in the background and it's pretty audible. If you really want to buy these, wait for them to go on sale is my recommendation, otherwise get the more polished, in my opinion, JBuds ANC

Nice - Much better than airpods
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These earbuds sound great!!!, just as good as my Jaybirds that have a cord between the buds - so these are a lot more convenient. Very Clear true sound, not a huge amount of base, but adequate, however, I am not a base head, I would much rather have an accurate sound. I like the charging case, looks expensive and wireless charging is very convenient, The app could use a few more options, the equalizer is customizable, but not nearly the range of the Jaybirds, and the Jaybird app a;;ows you to download equalizer profiles. For me the only thing I had an issue with is the fit. I am using the blue memory foam buds and still not a perfect fit, they work there way out after 5 or 10 minutes of activiyt. But to be fair I have had issues with fit on every ear buds I have ever owned. I have always had to buy Comply buds, but the Jlabs memory foam buds come pretty close.

not bad, but not the best due to requiring the app
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right off the bat I loved these things, I used them with my iPhone and downloaded the app. They needed an update and you need the app to update, doesn't take but a couple minutes to be ready to use. The app provides all kinds of customizations, but the app needs some work, more on that in the pros and cons. Pros: The fit: Comfortable in the ear, and lots of rubber heads and a foam set to help seal the ear canal. The App: The App is easy to use, you can set the touch functions for each earbud, 3 commands per earbud. You can choose between preset equalizer settings or customize them and save them. The app tells you the battery life of each earbud in %. They function without the app having to be on. Use: The earbuds vocalize in your ear when they connect and tell you the power level of the earbud when you put it in(battery full, battery medium, low battery). They have not fallen out of my ear yet. Battery life: I have not had them shut off on me yet, and I've used them for several hour stints, and they charge pretty fast. The case can charge them several times before needing to be charged itself. I have not had either one run down completely yet. the wireless charging it awesome and so is the little USB pigtail that is attached and hides away. I can charge it next to my laptop on my desk, or on my wireless charger at night. The Case: The case is very lightweight, and can charge wirelessly which is awesome! The magnet is strong enough to hold them in, I dropped the case on my wood floor once and the buds fell out, but other than that, they are easy to put in and easy to pull out. There is a charging indicator for the case (white lights) and charging indicators for the earbuds (blue lights). I don't understand the people who are complaining about the small usb cord, I think its convenient, not for wall charging but for charging with your laptop, desktop, I have a power strip with 2 usb ports on it by my couch, so it just sits on the floor plugged in to that if I need to. So many solutions for such a weird problem. If they gave you a longer wire, you'd be complaining about the lack of portability with this long charging wire... its why I hate my other bluetooth speaker, poor wire storage and connection location... this solves that. ANC: I have not actively tested the Active Noise Cancelling or the Be Aware function beyond turning them on and off. Working at home with my kid schooling online, I just not have found a time to actually test this out... sorry. Cons: Fit: It may be just my ears but the earbuds seem to need the pressure of the inside back of your ear to really seat in there, so for some ears they may be to bulky, like my wife's ears. The App: They need the app to work their best, even though they work without the app. The app wants BOTH earbuds synced with your phone when you open it. It gives you a small blurb saying to sync both, then you hit ok, and when you choose to try any of the app features, the app closes. This causes the earbuds to not remember which equalizer you had picked so you need to sync both earbuds, open the app, choose your custom equalizer settings (because the default is too much treble for my taste) then close the app and put the other bud away... otherwise just deal with the default equalizer setting. I am going to try and put my custom equalizer setting to the first one instead of the last one and hope that it defaults to that one instead... worth a try. I wish the app was just the interface to set the earbuds and then not need it anymore until you want to change them again... but alas it does not seem the case... if this was the case, I could set the earbuds to how I want them, then when I connect to my laptop, it would remember them. Touch sensitivity: more frustrating than helpful, still trying to figure out the timing of the taps, what it actually considers a tap, because tapping and touch+hold have different functions and the earbud gets confused on what I want. I find myself using my phone to maneuver songs and volume. Auto Play/Pause sensor - you can turn the feature on or off where it senses when the earbud is in your ear or when you pull it out thus pausing it. This feature needs a lot of work in my opinion. I got so frustrated just sitting there listening to a video or a song and the earbuds suddenly pause it, the un-pause it, then pause it, then un-pause it, because it can't decide if its in my ear or not... So FRUSTRATING, especially when doing dishes and your hands are wet, trying to tap the earbud with your shoulder so it knows you are there... I just finally turned that feature off after 2 weeks of it. Use with other devices: I tried these out with my laptop, and they connected, but without the app, these things use the default equalizer with is too tinny, more-so than when its connected to my phone it seems. I found no way to fix the sound quality when connected to my PC. There isn't a driver, or any interface to tweak them when using them on a PC. and the connection quality with the computer was severely lacking. I have resolved to use them only with my phone, which is sad as I would have liked to use them with my laptop to watch movies, never had this problem with my airpods. Overall: I got these as the deal of the day for $50, so I'm happy with them for that price point, not sure I would have kept them if I had paid full price. I prefer my airpods, but I have the old ones and they don't fit the ears so well and I don't want to pay full price for new ones. These are my everyday ones for now, and I'll give my airpods to my wife. I will do more testing with the ANC and Be Aware. I wish I could pair one earbud with my laptop and one earbud with my phone so I can multifunction with them while working from home... but that may be too much to ask.

Why buy anything else?!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super good buy, love these! Pros: sound quality, comfortability, case charger has great build quality, the app is cool with some great features. Charges fast, and the case wireless charges. The cloud foam tips are my favorite as it's fitted for everyone. The distance you can stay connected is about 30 with walls and about 45 without. Customer service is awesome, the ANC, and be aware is freaking AMAZING! Cons: The device has a periodic transfer from left to right of audio but is as if the buds are making sure they are still connected to both. The left and right side have their own battery life and can be read via the app. The strange part is they don't usually have the same battery life when using the ANC features because I believe that the mike's working more on this sides pull more power. I get about 6 hours per bud when ANC is on and about 8 without the ANC on. Recommend: 100% I got these on black friday for $50 and are worth every bit.

Love these so much, just not the best ANC
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love these!!! My only complaint is that the ANC could definitely be better, but they have room for improvement with updates, and they’re such a great deal so I can get over it. I tried the AirPod Pros and they did NOT fit in my ears. These were on sale for $50, so I thought, why not? They fit well, stay in great, have awesome controls (better than AirPod Pros in all those categories, imo), pretty dang good sound (still could be improvement there but honestly, no real complaints with the way I use them). I think these are great if you want some true wireless earbuds and don’t want to spend $400!! If you want amazing ANC though, I wouldn’t recommend these as of now but they still have room to grow through updates, but otherwise, I love them and definitely recommend.
