GOOD
- Affordable price for a mechanical keyboard
- Backlit keys
- Multi-device compatibility and device pairing memories
- Semi-customizable
- Removeable keycaps
BAD
- Can't operate in wired mode
- NumLock indicator blinks instead of staying lit
- Keystroke and activation aren't as crisp as Cherry MX switches
- Navigation panel ( Ins, Del, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn ) layout different than standard
TLDR
The JLab Epic is a great utilitarian upgrade over stock keyboards with SIO desktops. For around $70 you get a mechanical keyboard that works with all your computers and mobile devices. But it doesn't have the crisp feeling you can get with nicer mechanical switches. Discerning touch typists and those that spend a lot of time working with a keyboard will be let down.
DETAILS
The JLab Epic Wireless keyboard is a very simple idea executed well: a strong base and frame mated with backlit mechanical switches and sold for a very reasonable price. The wireless receiver uses a type-C connection and is quite small. You can tell it was made to connect to a laptop and just leave there permanently. Due to the small size, it can actually be somewhat hard to remove in some instances. You certainly wouldn't want to use it on the recessed rear panel of a normal desktop computer. Also, the keyboard operates only in wireless mode, either wireless USB or Bluetooth. The included wire is only used for charging the keyboard; it can't operate in wired mode alone. The keyboard uses three memory keys to quickly switch between the USB dongle and up to two Bluetooth paired devices.
The volume dial works well, and it has a satisfying click when you press it in for play/pause control. The dial can also be used for next and previous track using double- and long-click patterns, controls that are more often found on touch sensitive earbuds. But this is odd. Those functions are already on the F8 and F9 keys by default, so having them also on the volume dial seems superfluous. However, this is also a full-size keyboard, and there's plenty of room up top to add dedicated media control keys instead of doubling up on other keys. Another oddity is the NumLock key. While the CapsLock key will change its backlight to green to indicate it's turned on, the NumLock key does not. Instead it only blinks green ( 3x for off, 2x for on ) then goes back to its normal white light.
JLab offers software for the keyboard which allows minimal customization of the keys ( the top row of shortcut keys and the three top keys of the navigation group ), and can control the backlight intensity and duration, but that's it. You can also store three profiles, but this isn't like a gaming keyboard that can change the keymap profiles on the fly. The keycaps use a standard circle-plus stem so you should be able to change out the keycaps if you want. The feel of the switches is a little soft compared to a good Cherry MX Blue or Brown. It's not quite as crisp as though switches, though it's loads better than typical membrane switches.
This keyboard does have one potential deal-breaker in the six navigation key cluster. These six keys don't have the standard layout, and instead put the Delete, Page Up, and Page Down keys on the bottom. The top row, labeled 1, 2, and 3, are Insert, Home, and End. For touch typists that regularly use these keys for navigating documents or code, this non-standard layout is unacceptable. It would have been much better by far had JLab simply kept this cluster in its normal layout and let all six of them been customizable.

Before getting this keyboard, I was only aware of JLab's audio products. This has been a pretty great introduction to the rest of their product lineup. While I do wish the included USB-C dongle had a USB-A adapter, the keyboard has otherwise been very versatile. Swapping between the USB transceiver and the two Bluetooth slots means I can use just this one keyboard to control my whole entertainment center. The keycaps feel nice to the touch, and the switches aren't bad either. I'm also a fan of having the power switch on the top, so I can tell if it's on at a glance even if the backlight is off. There are also included key layouts for Windows, Android, and Mac; which is appreciated. While the top of the keyboard is metal, the back of it is made of plastic - this helps keep it lightweight while still feeling nice to the touch. That's something nice to have for a keyboard I'm regularly swapping between devices.
So, overall, I'm a pretty big fan of this keyboard. It's got all the features that make a good utility keyboard, but still looks good and feels good. I'd not necessarily recommend this as a dedicated gaming keyboard, but if you need a keyboard to hook up to multiple devices I would absolutely recommend this.

I've been waiting to find a wireless mechanical keyboard to use for work for a long time and I really thought this might be the keyboard I'd been waiting for. But sadly I tried using it for a few weeks and it just isn't going to cut it.
The build quality is great, it feels very sturdy and the keys travel just like you'd expect a mechanical keyboard to travel. Typing on this keyboard is one of the most satisfying typing experiences in a long time.
You can connect this keyboard on up to 3 devices; one with the included dongle and two more connected directly to bluetooth. Switching between the devices is as easy as clicking one of the three dedicated buttons on the keyboard.
This keyboard also works on mac, android, and PC. You can easily switch the layout using the function keys on the keyboard.
My only problem has been connection with my Mac. Several times throughout the day if I don't type for a little while, when I start typing again the first few letters of the first word won't register from the keystrokes. I'm not sure if this is a connection issue or powersaver issue. But regardless it makes using this keyboard less than ideal.
Overall, while I love the feel of using the keyboard the connectivity issues make it hard to recommend.
