I recently had the opportunity to try out the new JLAB Epic Open Sport over the ear outer earbuds. I think these totally deliver on all fronts and are a nice alternative to inner earbuds or headphones. Out of the box, the build quality of the Epic Open Sport is impressive. They are well crafted and clearly made to last. The battery life is phenomenal, and I’ve only had to charge them a handful of times with regular use. The open ear awareness design is both a strength and a limitation. It’s great for staying connected to your surroundings, which is the point, but this also means that in noisy environments, like when mowing the lawn, the sound gets almost completely drowned out. I could barely hear them at all during that activity and wouldn’t recommend them for that use. I think I could hear them while weed eating, but honestly, that’s not their intended purpose. Where these earbuds truly shine is during workouts. At the gym, while running or doing bodyweight exercises, they’re my go-to. They stay secure and comfortable through constant movements, something I struggle to find in most earbuds. I’m not a fan of full size headphones, especially in the Texas heat, so these are a perfect lightweight alternative. Odd as it sounds, it feels like my ears appreciate the open ear comfort because they’re breathable, and my eardrums don’t feel boxed in. Initially, I noticed a bit of rubbing from the over ear band, which was distracting and had me worried. But by the end of my first workout, it had faded into the background and hasn’t bothered me since. One drawback is the connectivity. It’s functional, but when paired with my iPhone, the connection doesn’t always feel seamless or dominant. For example, if you are listening to music and a call comes in, the earbuds are not always the first choice for your phone. Then you say hello and look for the Bluetooth selector like a goof. I am sure this has nothing to do with JLAB, but definitely some room for improvement on their part. I always try to give honest reviews while keeping in mind the value the manufacturer is aiming at delivering. I’ve used several other JLAB products and have rated most of them five stars I know the level of performance they typically bring. With the Epic Open Sport, JLAB didn’t miss. I’m very satisfied and now use them daily. That said, I’m not a huge fan of the entry price point. In my opinion, catching them on sale puts the value more in line with what they offer. Still, they’re a high-quality product and serve their intended purpose very well.

    Comfortable and Good Sound

The JLAB Epic Open Sport earbuds are a good addition to my phone call and music listening options. I like specifically that they’re not inside my ears as this makes wearing them for a longer amount of time more tolerable without the occasional inner ear discomfort you might get when wearing in-ear buds. Comfort aside, these open style wireless earbuds sound very good and block out enough of the noise around me to keep me focused on the call I’m taking or the music I’m listening to but not so much that I can’t hear someone calling my name from across the room or office. That aspect is important for work mostly but not as much when at home, listening to music or working on something that requires me to concentrate a bit more. The JLAB app for the phone has decent controls. It allows for setting up a custom equalizer along with two presets built in. Both are good but I always prefer setting my own. The earbuds have two ways of controlling them, by touching the left or right sides or by pressing the button on top of the bud itself. Within the app, you can customize these to react in any way you want; go back, skip ahead, play / pause, volume, and activating your voice assistant. Additionally, you can set a maximum volume to protect your ears. As for the overall sound, you have to remember, these do not close your ears to keep noises out and there is no “ANC”. With that said, I truly enjoy the more than sufficient volume, the bass and the higher tones. I did ask others around me if they could hear my conversation or music while using them and was told that there was only a faint sound and nothing distinguishable if they purposely came close to me. Lastly, the battery life has been excellent. I charged the earbuds and case when I get these before using them and at this point, I have spent at least eight hours on calls and another ten listening to music. In between the calls and listening to music, I put them into the charging case. At this point, the app shows the earbuds at 100% and the case a little over halfway charged. I expect to get another 20 or so hours based on that. In my opinion, JLAB has come a long way with their products. The quality has definitely improved over the last few years and, they are more capable of competing with some of their higher priced competitors. I would definitely recommend these based on my experience to this point.

Open ear design, great for workouts

Due to breaking my ankle last summer, it has been a while since I've been to the barber. After forgoing the usual fade with a #3 on top for almost a year, I now have to tame my locks with a metal headband for men. This makes wearing my usual headphones uncomfortable. The JLAB Epic Open Sport earbuds sport the open design with the drivers hovering over your ear instead of something that goes into your actual ear canal. Having had many sets of this type of design, I can say that these are pretty comfortable. The fit is snug but not tight, and they have a nice weight to them. Putting the drivers in the right position doesn't take a whole lot of fidgeting, but I did accidentally trigger the touch sensitive buttons several times in the process (and the tactile buttons more than once, as well). It's nice that there's both, since the touch sensitive ones don't always work when I'm actually trying to hit them. I'm also glad that there is the ability to change volume as well as skip track using the buttons, instead of the basic call functions. Once they are on properly, they stay in place really well. This is great for workouts, dancing around to your music, or going about your usual activities without worrying if one of the buds is going to pop out of your ear at an inopportune moment. The audio quality is better than I expected from this type of design. The bass has some oomph to it, especially after turning on the Jlab Signature equalizer mode. It's not enough to really be awed by it or anything, but enough so that I'm not out searching for the missing bass in songs I'm familiar with. I like that the case supports wireless charging. Multipoint Bluetooth is yet another win (and in my opinion needs to be standard these days).

This review is on a JLAB Epic Open Sport Air Conduction Wireless Earbuds. JLAB is my favorite earbud company due to its quality and pricing. Products are designed well and hold up compared to others. These earbuds are beyond comfortable. I can barely even tell that I am wearing them. They do not stick down in your ears, so they can be worn for long periods of time. They are great if you do running because they won't fall off since they wrap around your ears. When I pulled them out of the case, it brought up a picture of them on my phone saying connecting. Also in the status bar, it shows a nice picture of all three pieces and their battery life. There was one update to do that completed in under five minutes. The case can charge wirelessly. The app is great. It gives you an equalizer but it only has two presets and one custom. It lets you reassign what happens when you touch the buttons on the earbuds. It has a music or movie mode. It also has a safe hearing mode. You can also access the device instructions from the app. The earbuds sound good but if you are looking for the best, then due to its design, these aren't. These are meant to give you the ability to hear around you while using the earbuds. Of course, if the volume is all the way up you can't hear too much outside of them but at the right level, you can hear other sounds. I like to use them when on conference calls due to how comfortable they are and the ability to hear others in the room.

The Jlab Epic Open Sport are great open ear headphones. I have a couple of other pair of open ear headphones that are okay, but they are no where near as good as the Jlab headphones. Let's first talk about the sound quality. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. I'm not just talking about the volume, which by the way, can go so loud, you can't hear anything around you. However, the actual quality of the sound, is amazing, by far these are some of the best open ear headphones I have ever had. The charge time is very good, and I'm thoroughly impressed with them, I have used them for several hours when working in the yard, and in the house on multiple projects, from listening to music to listening to books and I've never had a problem. One of my favorite features is that I'm able to use these with multiple devices. This works great because I'm able to talk on my phone when it rings, but I'm also able to work on my projects on my computer and listen to what is going on at the same time without having to switch from one set of headphones to another. Overall these things are amazing and I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

I have owned many Jlab products over the years with mixed results. Sometimes they were good and sometimes they were truly awful (quality and battery life.) With that in mind, my expectations were not high for the JLab Epic Open Sport; especially considering the price point and open ear design. However, those expectations were way off. The Epic Open Sport are amazing good. Let’s look at the reasons why: Construction – When you first open the case, it does feel on the cheap side. That impression goes away when you start inspecting the actual earpieces. While I cannot say they feel “premium,” they are close and comparable to earpieces that are more expensive. The case itself does feel a bit flimsy so time will tell how well it holds up. The Epic Open Sports are IP55 so they will not survive being dunked in water but enough to protect them from light moisture and dust. Fit – The open ear design was odd for me. I felt myself adjusting frequently trying to get the best fit. I realized this was more due to my usual use of in-ear headphones and my adjustments were not necessary. They never fell off my ears, but I always felt they were about to. Some users may find the same with an open ear design. Keep in mind, this is more of a perception rather than a reality. I think most users will adjust to the Epic Open Sport design rather quickly. Sound – Shockingly good. The sound was clear, balanced and vibrant. There is an equalizer in the app that can adjust to the media that you are listening to. There are two presets – Jlab Signature and Balanced. I found the Signature to be perfect for most media. The sound was surprisingly loud and had zero distortion. I did basic tests with phone calls and there were no major issues. There were some minor pick up of background sounds but not too bad. You should not buy these for the phone call quality, you should buy them for the sound quality when playing media. Features – Each earphone has button and touch controls that can be assigned to a function in the app. The customization is a nice feature that can help some of the pitfalls of touch controls on the small surface of an earpiece. I did find myself miss hitting or getting a result I did not intend. It is not a deal breaker, but it will take some time to get used to. As mentioned earlier, the app has an excellent equalizer function that works well in setting the sound that best suits the environment and the media. Additionally, there is a quick selector of switching between music mode and movie mode. There is a noticeable difference between the two and I found the music mode to be best for most things. The case has a built-in charger that can be charged via USB or wireless charging. The wireless charging was a surprise on a device at this price point – very nice. Jlab claims a battery life of 30 hours with the case. I’ve been using the Epic Open Sport for a week and there is still plenty of battery life left. The reality is that nearly all the manufacturers have nailed the battery life in these types of devices In conclusion, the JLab Epic Open Sport offers stellar sound with very little compromises. I only tried an open ear design few times before these and had some preconceived notions that were unfounded. It makes sense to have an open ear design if you are exercising outside. The Epic Open Sport strikes a balance of loud and clear sound and still letting in enough outside sound in to be safe when jogging. Are there better headphones on the market? Absolutely. Are there better headphones at the same price point? No, and some at even higher prices do not match the sound quality. Jlab backs up the Epic Open Sport with a 2 year warranty – twice as good as competition that is mor than twice the price. Good job Jlabs, I completely recommend the JLab Epic Open Sport earbuds.

    Comfortable Over Ear Set

I'm quite pleased with the JLab Epic Open Sport. I am an avid runner, though I do prefer the treadmill inside the gym especially when it's 1000 degrees outside like it has been since I received this set. That being said, open ear sets in a public gym are often not something I like... but the JLab Epic Open Sport was a pleasant surprise. The open ear design sometimes can allow too much other sound to creep in... diminishing the enjoyment of the sweet tunes I would prefer to listen to. However, with this set of buds, the external sound creeping in is pretty minimal. I don't want to set the expectation that it'll be as quiet as a noise cancelling in-ear set, because it won't be. But for an open ear conduction set, it's quite outstanding in this regard. Battery life is also pretty strong. I was unable to drain the earpieces themselves to the bottom in an hour and a half of working out, and the case after recharging to full took about 10%. I would say total life to be close to the advertised 30 hours based on that math before the case and earpieces are empty. Sound quality is again quite good for an open ear conduction set. The one thing I am not as big of a fan of is the touch controls. They don't seem as intuitive to me as other sets I have used in the past... but that could simply be because I'm used to those and not this set. I'm sure I will adapt as these have become the go to for working out. Not just that, but I have been using these to do phone calls regularly with ease. People on the other end of the line have had no complaints about sound quality, and I've been able to hear them just fine as well. The last point I'll make on the JLab Epic Open Sport is to their comfort. At first, putting them on felt a little weird, as you will want the ... bulb for lack of a better word... to go in your ear, but it doesn't. It simply rests easily on top, and it almost feels like they aren't there. I have run full sprint intervals with these in and not had them even feel close to falling off despite feeling like they should be more secure initially. All in all, great value to be found here for the active person needing some comfort and strong tunes to keep the motivation high while out for that run.

Good Quality entry level headphones that are truly wireless and open ear design which offers its pros and cons. They seem to be consistent with JLAB quality, they are small but have a nice weight and feel to them- don't have a cheap plastic feel. The Pro: *battery life- they last about 6hrs each time I have sued them and the case charges them another 19hrs so they last me a 2-3 weeks since I only use them for running. *Open Ear Design- they don't sit inside your ear canal so that you are able to hear your surroundings, traffic or just safety issues. I also believe it's probably better for your ears and preserving your hearing. *Multiple devices- you are able to connect to different devices without having to disconnect one to connect another which is convenient. CONS: *Earhook fit- they don't fit securely, they tend to jostle around alot but that's due to the open air design. I wish there was a bit more of a tighter fit, I am always fearful they will fall off as I run faster. *Water proofing- it's typically just regular sweatproof which i wouldn't mind but if i am jogging and fearful they will fall off when i run due to the first issue of the fit- i am afreaid they will fall in a puddle of water so i wish they were water proof. NEUTRAL- Sacrafice sound for environmental awareness. SOUND- this is the main purpose of the headphones but I couldn't list it as a negative because they do sound decent but due to the open ear/air design it is not the most vibrant sound because the sound gets a little lost since it is open air and gets muddles or lost with the outside environment- hence it doesn't sound as good as ear canal headphones but it's due to the design so know that before purchasing.

I find these earbuds unique. If you are looking for a decent pair of open-ear earbuds, these could fit the bill. The price isn’t over the top and the quality and sound are pretty good. The quality seems good. They are made of a smooth plastic with a flexible hook that goes over your ear to keep them in place and they do stay in place. I can only take having earbuds in my ear for so long before they start bothering the outer part of my ear canal. These are different because they don’t actually block the opening of your ear. If you are interested in noise canceling earbuds, then these will not work for you. These are meant for you to be aware of your surroundings, but I find them perfect because of the comfort and I can turn them up some if I want to block out noise. So it is a win-win situation for me. . The battery life on the actual earbuds last about 9 hours, and charging with the case you will get between 15-18 hours of use. The feel and design are comfortable and seem to be well made. I recommend downloading the JLab Audio App because it has a lot of uses. I can adjust the sound with the equalizer and change my touch controls. You can even just listen to ambient sounds. So, if you like to go to sleep to the sound of rain, waves, birds and other things, you can do that with these if you feel the need. I highly recommend these earbuds if you are looking for something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. They are very comfortable to wear and have good adjustable sound. They are what you expect from JLab because they are made well and are budget friendly.

    EPIC OPEN SPORT EARBUDS

JLAB has created another really nice pair of earbuds. Small, compact, excellent sound, recharges quickly, but the best part is that they are really comfortable! I usually don't like earbuds because they are not comfortable and they're always falling out of my ears. These don't. Once you put them on, you can easily forget about them. Love them. I think my only complaint is that - while very comfortable - there are "gaps" between the earbud and my ear canal, so I get other ambiant noise while using them. I kept wanting to cup my hands over my ears to isolate the sound from the earbuds and then not hear the other, ambiant noise. This was bothersome and then it wasn't "hands free" usage. I think the only real silly complaint was the packaging! I had a heck of a time trying to open the box. The ends and side were glued so well, I nearly ripped apart the box just to get to the product. Luckily, the inside tray where the earbud pod and charging cable resided was well made and reusable, I can use that tray to store the JLAB Epic Open Sport earbuds in when not in use. NICE PRODUCT!

I found the fit and comfort of these open sport earbuds to be top notch - the way the wrap around the ear and sit on top, not in, the ear was really comfortable, and I can move around for most activities like runs, weight lifting, shooting hoops are practicing at the driving range without constantly playing with my ears. The battery life is more than adequate for going out, getting something done and then coming back and throwing them in their case. I wish that the sounds quality itself matched the comfort - volume was alarming inconsistent across apps and even uses - part of the point of open sport is that you can bike or run outside and not be oblivious to your surroundings but I had one occasion where even the lowest volume was painfully loud, nevermind providing me with ability to hear traffic. I also had a couple of occasions with annoying, borderline painful, stereoscopic oscillation where sounds would fade left to right and then back right to left. This happened on some jams that I've heard just fine without that oscillation when using over the ear headphones or other earbuds so I have to surmise it was an issue with the product, not the source audio. They are priced right, have good battery and are really comfortable - hopefully the issues that I experienced can be fixed with a firmware update and these become a great option but I didn't find them usable with my android phone as I used them the last week

I am a huge proponent of bone conduction technology and I run outside often and have found how much safer I feel when my ears are technically open to the world around me. I've been using another product for several years and while it's a bit pricier I always felt like it was worth the investment. In finding these, I was super excited about a product that would be a little easier on my wallet and I was fascinated by how the separate pieces may hold up on hot southern days. I was very impressed with how easily they connected to my phone and I did find that they needed to be charged up the first time in order to keep the sound balanced between the two pieces. I didn't know if I "trusted" them to stay on because I sweat a lot and I live in the south where the humidity makes everything 100x more damp and gnarly, in the summer. I was SUPER impressed that they stayed in place with little to no movement while I took them on their first 45 minute jaunt. They feel really light and you almost forget that you have anything on.

So let us start off with the positive that you can hear outside noise while wearing these and listening to moderate sound level. They seem fairly secure around the ears although I wouldn't feel totally secure with running and getting sweaty that they wouldn't slide but they are wrapped around the ear pretty well so it would likely stay. My biggest negativity is that they are so thick that after prolonged wear or an hour or so causes pain from the ear being pushed forward. I tried shifting positions to see if it could alleviate the pain but there doesn't seem to be any part of it that is thin enough to not dumbo your ears slightly if your ears are close to your head. This wouldn't be an issue for everyone but it was a significant issue for me. I was hoping these would be by new running headphones but since I run for longer than an hour the ear pain is too distracting. The concept is good and the sound is decent and the ability to hear things around you is a nice feature, but the execution of the design is flawed for tightly tucked ears.
