Great Sound Quality & Nice Build Quality

I have tried an absolutely insane (at least to me) about of wired headphones, wireless headphones, wired earbuds, wireless earbuds, surround sound systems, soundbars, and everything in between all of those. I have always found some that are just good enough sounding, or just good enough fitting, or just good enough durability to make due for a few years before I then have to replace them with another pair. I am hoping that these last much longer than any of the rest of my wireless earbuds & time will tell if that is true. As the title says they sound great & have a great build quality too. They aren't super flimsy, or overly bulky, they are just right for me.
Unboxing & Syncing
Getting the earbuds synced to my phone & my work laptop was super easy. I unboxed them, started the sync up, and downloaded the app to my (iOS) phone. This took me no time. But since I have a lot of experience doing this I wanted to test by having my girlfriend sync these to her Android phone. She too was able to do this in under 2 minutes. For someone who is not a techie at all, this is great.

ANC & Pass-Through
I will not use earbuds, or headphones, that do not have ANC. I've tried but I've gotten so used to great ANC that unless they have great ANC I just will not use them. I am delighted to report that these have some of the best ANC & Pass-Through I have experienced to date. Seriously, this is make or break for me because whether I am sitting at my desk working, or going to the grocery store, or washing my car, or working around the house I have to have either the ANC on (if doing loud things) or Pass-Through on (so that I can talk to my SO or be aware of what is going on around me). Failing in either of these two categories would have made me want to check these in the trash. It passed with flying colors
ANC & Pass-Through Rating: 5/5
Sound Quality
I listened to a variety of YouTube videos (gaming, cars, tech, true crime, etc), as well as listened to various forms of music (both videos and just music; the music was Rap/Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Country, some Classical, and even Christmas music over the Christmas season) and while the speakers did not have ear splitting bass, I find this a plus because I am almost in my 40s now and so ear splitting bass just isn't my thing anymore. That said the bass did not sound distorted, or even hollow, it sounded very pleasant. As did the highs & lows. The Christmas music was a really nice experience because with them I've noticed it has a lot of crisp & clear vocals with all kinds of different instruments, and beats, and these kept up nicely with it. It made wrapping gifts, and grocery shopping a breeze!
Sound Quality Rating: 5/5
Fit/Ergonomics
These being hooked/looped over the ear and then going into the ear meant that I was able to get a proper seal in my ear but also had the security of it being hooked/looped over the top of my ear. I wasn't 100% sure how I would like it because I genuinely love my few earbuds that have wings on them(they go in the ear and then the wings press against the cartilage of your ear to stay in place), however, what I noticed with my other wing having earbuds is wearing toboggans would cause the earbud to slide out ever so slightly before falling out. That does not happen with these earbuds. Also, when wrapping & grocery shopping, like I mentioned doing previously, I was able to move around and these never moved. Whether I was up, down, bent over, leaning sideways, whatever, these just stayed in place. I even got under my car & changed my transfer case fluid & these never moved one bit when I had my car on jackstands & lifted with a jack about 10-12 inches off the ground. Big win for me in this area.
Fit/Ergonomics Rating: 5/5
Battery Life
With the case having a built-in battery that of course means the earbuds have an insane amount of battery life-per se. I was able to get an entire day of constant use (with ANC on) out of these before needing to throw them in the charger. And then I only had to charge the case once per week. Of course, I used it much more on the weekends compared to throughout the work day, but still that was the experience I had with them. One thing that does worry me, and it goes for all of these types of earbuds that have a charging case, is that the earbuds are constantly being recharged up to 100% when in the case. That has to degrade the batteries in the earbuds and so that will probably be a problem once they get on up there in age. Something to be mindful of with all of these types of earbuds.
Battery Life Rating: 5/5
Summary
So, is there anything with these that I would change? I personally hate messing with the EQ because I can never get it truly how I want it. I could probably Google it & figure out some to set for myself, but I actually like it when the developer/maker of earbuds & headphones have EQs already set for specific content (Country, Pop, Rock, Rap, Vocal, etc) because it takes the guesswork out of it for me. But I know that I may be in the minority here. (Yes, I know it has 'Signature', 'Balanced' & 'Bass Boost' but I think having options like I outlined above would be better; surely the app isn't limited at only having 4 EQs with the last one being a custom one set by the end user....but maybe I'm wrong). And so I wish the app had this option, but I can't really fault the earbuds because that's more an app thing I guess. So other than the EQ settings within the app there isn't anything else I'd change with these earbuds. JLab really knocked these out of the park. I absolutely love them. I'll be picking my girlfriend up a pair because I let her try them for a few days & she loved them too. Will make a nice Valentine's Day gift for her.

Nice Earbuds with a Secure Fit for Active People

In summary, these “Epic Sport ANC” earbuds from Jlab have all the features you’d expect at their reasonable price plus a couple of unique ones as well. However, for active use I found the touch controls to be somewhat inconvenient, although nothing that I won’t eventually get used to.
Like most wireless earbuds, these come in a case that holds a charge of its own and is able to recharge the buds themselves multiple times. This is the first one I’ve seen that includes a built-in USB-C cable. It’s very short though and would best be used in a situation where you would plug it into a USB-C port on a laptop. I couldn’t use it that way but fortunately it also has a separate USB-C port so I could plug it into the cable from the charger that I use for my phone, tablet, etc. The case can also be placed on a Qi-compatible pad for wireless charging. So thumbs up for providing multiple options here.
Another new feature – at least to me – was that they were the easiest devices to pair to my (Android) phone that I’ve ever seen. Just removing them from the case put them into pairing mode, and then when I unlocked my phone I saw a popup letting me know that a new device was available and I just tapped that to begin the pairing operation. It was all done in seconds! To pair a second device and take advantage of multipoint connections, they recommend that you turn off Bluetooth in the device that’s already paired and then use the same initial pairing behavior to connect another device. Re-enable Bluetooth on the first device and you will have both devices connected. Of course, from that point on, the earbuds will connect to either or both devices the next time you take them out of the case.
The buds fit well and are comfortable to wear. The ear hook goes in place easily and will certainly prevent having one pop out accidentally when running or cycling. The sound is good and can be adjusted by using the companion app that’s available on the app store. The ANC feature is decent for earbuds in this price class. I do have some better ones, but they cost 2-3x what these do. And anyway, if they’re being used for outdoor activities, it’s probably best to not use ANC and pay attention to your surroundings (ANC can be switched on and off via the control buttons).
This brings me to a minor gripe about the controls. In general it’s frustrating that every one of these devices uses a different combination of tap/double-tap/tap-and-hold etc. for the same operations, play/pause and volume being the most-used functions. I use four different wireless listening devices and have a cheat-sheet in my notes app to remind myself which uses what combo! So first off I’ll give Jlab a lot of credit for having the controls work identically on both earbuds. No more “left-tap pauses and right-tap resumes” and such. The problem for me is that they are touch-sensitive buttons and not buttons that have to be pressed. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t have a sensor in my finger tip to let me guide it to the right place, and by the time I reach up and find the right spot I’ve usually tapped it at least once if not more times. This is especially true when using these while physically active, which seem to be the intent of this product. Often my attempt to pause the music ends up as pause-play-pause or, worse, skips ahead a track when I wasn’t trying to do that (and I’ve cut off more incoming calls than I’ve answered!). However, I do like the volume control, which operates as a slider on the lower part of the ear hook, which is comparatively easy to locate and use.
Some of this just comes with the territory for having to squeeze so much functionality into a small device, and it really doesn’t detract much from the fact that these rate as one of the best products in the competitive mid-range wireless earbud market, especially for active people.
