Very entertaining movie. Great movie effects, beautiful and imaginative other worlds and story lines. Loved the actors. The storyline starts out fast and keeps on going, but I liked.

I bought this movie because it was in 3D. I hadn't seen it, read any reviews on it, nothing. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I rewatched it with my wife, and she hates it when I buy movies I haven't seen. She loved it. So, if you want to see a good sci-fi flick, this is a good choice.

Pros: Dolby Atmos on my 11.2 (7.2.4) Cons: I even forgot what it was about. Nothing that stood out or stuck in my mind. 3D was weak even on my OLED that produces beautiful 3D!

I nearly didn't buy this movie due to the poor ratings this movie received from the critics when it was released to theaters. However, I a certainly happy I ignored their opinions and saw the movie for myself. This movie has some of the best production values I have seen for a movie of this scale in quite a while. It has a true creative vision of what other civilizations in the galaxy might look like that remind be of the visual images that were presented in the world of the "Harry Potter" series of movies. In other words, this movie delighted my senses with it's visual wonderment and believability! At first viewing, I understand now why the critics didn't like this movie but the more times you watch it the more you come to appreciate this mult-layered movie and what the movie is trying to say. My only complaint with the movie is that of poor editing in the start of the movie. In my opinion, the editing in the start of the movie is what makes people hate this movie. Unless you are really quick at picking up on scenes with no referance as to what is going on and where you are in time and space, it is hard to understand what is going on with this movie in the first view scenes of the movie. After watching this movie a second and then a third time the characters introduced in the first 3 to 4 scenes of the movie make sense as to who they are and how the articulate and interrelate with each of the other characters introduced at the start of the movie. Once you understand what is going on in this movie, it becomes clear that this is an inventive and orginal story line that truely entertains and keeps the audience engaged throughout the movie. I would highly recommend this movie to others but only if they are willing to take the time to watch the movie several times to get a grasp on who the characters are and what is going on at the start of the movie.

Did this film deserve all of the flak it has received? IMHO, I don't think so. Was the writing and plot overcomplicated and convoluted, sure. Was it overacted? In parts, yes. But I think if you are a Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan, and can overlook what I mentioned you can enjoy this movie. Doubly so, if you are a fan of the Wachowskis, or Channing Tatum. If you can pick this up for under $10, do it. I was not disappointed.

We liked the 3D better than the movie. We gave the movie 4 stars because we had problems keeping up with the story line. But the 3D effect was pretty good. So I would give the 3D part 4 1/2 to 5 stars. The 3D effect for Space and Explosions was very good. We bought this on sale for $7.99 which made the movie well worth the purchase.

There is something oddly charming to the outright oddity that Jupiter Ascending is trying so hard to be. It is in this pushing, this trying to separate itself that the Wachowksi siblings, Andy and Lana, perpetuate their inherent "weirdness" while what they are actually trying to do is paint a mind of possibilities in a way that feels illogical when first introduced, but makes greater sense as a greater understanding and deeper contemplation are taken into account. As written by The Wachowski's it would seem likely that Jupiter Ascending once had a greater amount of substance to it than what the final product delivers. As the credits began to roll what I was left with was the incessant nagging of my brain questioning what exactly the directing duo were trying to say with this film. There is always a stream of consciousness to The Wachowski's films hinting at an overarching theme, but it seemed all I was left with here were a few cool ideas, some exceptional visuals and a solid piece of entertainment value, but little to actually ponder. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with making an outright spectacle that delivers large scale thrills in spades with little to no substance, but what makes Jupiter Ascending not that type of movie is that it's clear that wasn't the original intent of its creators. Throughout, there are consistent hints of a much larger, much stronger narrative existing within this well-developed universe The Wachowski's have created, but unfortunately much of it is lost in the barrage of frequent action scenes that take us from point A to point B. It's also true that the plot becomes a little too convoluted and tiresome by the time it reaches the third act yet I was never bored either with what I saw unfolding in front of me or what might be staged next. In this regard, while Jupiter Ascending is certainly strange to the point it will immediately off-put some and may be The Wachowski's most outright weird production to date, for others familiar with their work it is also their most commercially accessible given the style over substance mentality it has seemed to take on in its delay. Despite it not living up to what I'd hoped it to be, there is still plenty of fun to be had here and more than enough to marvel at.

While this movie isn't everyones favorite, there are so many interesting choices made in the cinematography and art direction that i think its worth watching just for that alone.

I went into the theatre to see this movie expecting nothing more than to enjoy watching Channing Tatum skate around as a beautiful space elf. With such low expectations I was absolutely blown away by how much I loved the movie; well, the world of the movie. I was absorbed by how many legends, myths, tales, etc were referred to and explained in this film, such as aliens we typically refer to as "Greys" and why witnesses are always fuzzy on the details. Crop circle, vampires, alien abduction, and more are explained while building up an expansive universe that may not actually make sense (why, exactly, do all these other races bow down to weak humanity?), but is at least entertaining. Upon my second viewing I realized something I hadn't noticed in the theatre: the dialogue is almost entirely exposition. There is so much to say in order to build this version of reality and so little time to say it in that apparently the directors decided the best way to do it would be to literally TELL the audience. I felt like Channing Tatum was reading the Jupiter Ascending wikipedia for a good part of the movie. When I got this version of the film I watched it in 3D, which was alright. I'm no expert in 3D but I can say just from experience that this one felt a little more...headache inducing...than, say, The Avengers did when I watched it with the same setup. I imagine anyone who would want the 3D version knows what to expect by now. While this is not a perfect movie by any means, I still feel the need to give it a good rating because it does what film does best: entertain. I was glued to my seat, mouth agape the entire time I was in the theatre. Give it a chance, enjoy the ride, and don't think about it too much. It's exactly what it should be.

This movie was like a space age Cinderella story in a way, a good way. It was an interesting plot and a great story line. Watching it in Blu-ray 3D made it all that more entertaining. Don't forget your Popcorn before you sit down and get ready to watch this movie. Enjoy!!

adding this one as a value to the 3D collection due to price. 3D options are slowing down and like adding anything that drops below $10

The producers of this film shot themselves in the foot, twice. It was supposed to be released in the summer (where it belonged) & then pulled it & set it for a February release leaving the pundits to speculate that there had to be something wrong with the film. Strike one. Next the producers gave a unannounced sneak preview of the film at the Sundance Film Festival. That was like showing a new model Chevrolet at a Maserati - Ferrari -Lamborghini car show. No matter how good the Chevy is it's not going to be appreciated by those car buyers. So now we had endless articles about how the Sundance audience hated "Jupiter" and some audience members walked out in the middle of the showing. Well, dah, what else would you expect? Strike two. The word was out, "Jupiter" was rotten. If I read that once on the internet I read it half a dozen times before it even opened in theatres. I wanted to see the film anyway (not trusting the film critics as far as I could throw them). I likes the film. Interesting story; good guys vs. bad guys; Unbelievably beautiful special effects; very good film score; well acted; etc. First & foremost it was entertaining. What more do you want from this kind of film. It isn't Tennessee Williams! It's just a very enjoyable sci-fi film I'm glad I went to see.

Jupiter Ascending is the new film from the directors of The Matrix trilogy. The story is big and full of special effects. Unfortunately the whole thing is rather boring. It takes too long to get where it is going and lingers on the CGI shots. The disc comes with a decent 3D presentation adding depth to a lot of the wide landscape shots. Give this one a rental.

I know I'll get some flak for going against the general consensus here, but I truly enjoyed this movie. It was big, the sets and cinematography were great and, in general the plot/storyline was pretty good. The Wachowski's suffer from having created a masterpiece in The Matrix and now, unfortunately for them, all of their work is compared to it. I think the movie had a good mix of humor and and action, didn't take itself that seriously and had great effects. Yes, I'm one of maybe 20 people of the 300 that actually went out and saw this in the theaters that enjoyed the film. I wasn't blown away by anything in particular, there was nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary in what was presented, but I still liked it a lot. The only issue I had was a frequent inability to understand the whisper-speak of Eddie Redmayne's (Balem) character. He was a little over the top, but clearly had fun and control of interpreting his character. I like explosions, and werewolves that rollerskate through the sky -- what can I say?! I guess I just don't need to be overly critical and can sit back and enjoy a movie regardless of it's inability to achieve critical acclaim.
