It's an interesting take on core characters, a different perspective, but I prefer the original canon on the characters, but a good storyline overall.

Bruce Timm is back! This is an awesome take on JLA. It's an Elsewhere story. Also an origin one, has mystery and violence.

So if you didn't realize what this movie was about from watching the trailer or reading the description, let me warn you...this is a little out there. Let's start off by explaining the "Alternate Universe" idea a little. I'll try not to spoil too much. First, Superman has different parents. Wonder Woman is actually not from this planet. And Batman, is actually as his name implies, a BATman(i.e. a vampire). Don't let the cover art fool you. Even though you see the standard depictions of the DC Trinity in the background, they have nothing to do with this movie. Now all that being said. It really was a great movie. The animation was just as good as all the previous DC cartoon movies. The writing and acting was also just as good. If you're a fan of alternate history stuff I think you'll like this. If you're like me and getting maybe a little tired of the same old story lines(seriously, if I have to see Krypton explode or Batman's parents die AGAIN, I'm going to hurl) then you will get sucked in as you watch it. Because since everything you know is wrong(as it pertains to this universe), then you have no idea what's about to happen. Which for characters that are decades older than most of us is a pleasant change. If you're still unsure about this let me also remind you about where this comes from in real life. The same writer behind this also brought us Batman: The Animated Series. Need I say more? Seriously, go look up Bruce W. Timm. You should have no more questions after that. This Combo Pack has the usual DC features: A Sneak Peek at the next DC movie(SPOILER! It's Batman: Bad Blood), a couple behind the scenes things, and a couple of Bonus Cartoons(Legion of Super Heroes "Phantoms", Superman: The Animated Series "Brave New Metropolis"). Plus, all these modern cartoons look extra sharp and really good in HD. Also, if you're like me you can let the kid use the DVD version ;) In conclusion I really liked this movie. My daughter didn't seem interested partly because she LOVES Superman and Batman and these are not what she's used to. I would have given it 5 stars, but any movie where you have to concentrate on getting out of your own head can't be perfect.

Not at all what was expected fromtm cover but not

Looking at the cover, you'd expect another DC Justice League movie in line with the previous entries, especially because the "real" versions of the three (Superman, Batman, & Wonder Woman) featured in this movies are portrayed on the cover, albeit in a suspicious silhouette form. This is definitely not the case. This movie is in an alternate dimension where Clark is not Superman, but another being from Superman's home world (I don't want to give away many spoilers), Bruce is not Batman, and Diane isn't Wonder Woman. These three are the only three that form the Justice League and run it with an iron fist. It The plot took me by surprise and I kept waiting for the "real" versions of the three to show up and set thing right. It never happened. This story starts and ends in this alternate universe, which cleverly inserts the back story of the three "heroes." Even though it wasn't what I expected, it still was a pretty good watch. Great animation and distinct characters with good character development. If you are a fan of comics, DC, Justice League, and/or animation, you should check this out. It's very enjoyable.

You think that would be obvious with a title like "Gods and Monsters" but you still see people questioning why some properties don't just churn out kiddy stuff all the time. Bruce Timm, who gave us the amazing DC animations from Batman TAS all the way through Justice League Unlimited, is back and giving an all new spin on the main DC trinity. None are the heroes you have known, but they are, if you are acquainted with the broader DC universe, not new characters, just lesser prominent ones being given new roles. The world around them is different as well, often due to how they have filled the roles their powers have given them. Here again, more side characters find them selves in different positions, like Dr. Sivana, Will Magnus, and Amanda Waller. The story takes a very adult view of things, showing the interactions between the first three heroes and how their actions change the world we knew. Lust, jealousy, betrayal, and heartbreak are all around. The title mainly refers to the choice the new trio is given at the end of the story, one which will hopefully feel as real to you as it did to me.

A Justice League from a new universe

DC puts out multiple animated titles each year and 1 is usually outside the main series. This is the one for this year. In an alternate universe to the one most people know: Superman's father isn't Kal-el and he isn't found by the Kents. Raised by migrant workers his worldview is quite different from the Superman of the main world. Batman isn't Bruce Wayne and Wonder Woman isn't one you know either, but using these three main changes Bruce Timm wrote a unique new world that still looks a lot like the DC titles we're used to. Are the heroes or villains? Should humanity appreciate their interference and how hard handed should the three be against the villains in their world. Though there is a lot of thought to the philosophy of this world, there is still plenty of the action that we are used to in the Justice League titles. It was a refreshing twist to what we are all used to.

I have always been a fan of Best Buy’s DC animated movie Exclusive packs. They are my go to packaging when it comes to choosing where to pick up the latest DC animated movie. I can always count on Best Buy to be there for my family and I, to ensure that we got the best quality for our money. Even though lately Best Buy has on a few occasions let my family and I down. By either not having their DC animated movie Exclusive packs in stock or 95% of the packages are damaged. Which is a severe disappoint to me, because I’ve been a loyal customer of the DC animated movie Exclusive packs since Best Buy started offering the DC animated movie Exclusive packs. But still when the DC animated movie Exclusive packs are available, they are a great buy. All and all this product had the potential to be great if readily available, but in the end with the lack of quality control it was al’ight.

This was pretty good. It was a different take on the heroes that we know. the Focus is on Superman. Batman & Wonder Woman. It's like an Elseworlds tale,"In Elseworlds, super-heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places - some that have existed, and others that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. The result is stories that make characters who are as familiar as yesterday seem as fresh as tomorrow." It's worth checking out to see if you like it. Some might others might skip it. If you can rent and see for yourself if it's a must own for you. Personally I enjoyed the new alternative takes of the DC Trinity. I enjoyed the Wonder Woman storyline a bit more, then the Batman & Superman ones. Not that Bats & Supes Stories weren't also good too.

A new Justice League not for the casual fan

The latest installment from the DC Universe Animated Original Movies comes Justice League: Gods and Monsters. Unlike past films from the series, Gods and Monsters is a brand new story not derive from the comics. This new interpretation of the D.C Trinity comes from Bruce Timm, and it's not like anything you seen before. The story takes place in a alternate universe where our heroes differ significantly and can turn off the casual fan. I recommend watching the three short episode from Machinima to get a better understanding of the tone. The best buy exclusive comes with a Wonder Women figure, a bonus digital copy of the Wonder Women film, and a digital comic of Mad Love. If you decide to invest in this movie, I highly recommend buying this Deluxe Edition of the film.

Fantastic Packaging for a Special Edition Film

I'm sure other people can review the film much more eloquently than I can so this review will focus on the packaging. This special edition Blu-Ray + DVD + Ultraviolet comes in a beautiful box featuring characters from the film. The small figure however, isn't very impressive in terms of size, sculpt, and paint, though it is cute though. There is a shiny limited edition sticker on the bottom telling you what number you have out of 60,200. I would only recommend this version to huge fans of the Justice League: Gods and Monsters movie or if you can find it cheaper than the regular version because the small figure doesn't add that much more value. Overall the packaging is great, but a full size figure would have made me love it that much more.

    Better Than Average D.C. Movie

I'd read quite a bit about this movie before I purchased it, so I knew what some of the twists the story line had taken when compared with other D.C. Comics films. Suffice it to say that this is NOT your typical Superhero movie...but it IS excellent!! I can honestly say that I enjoyed this more than any recent D.C release. I won't spoil anything here with this review. You'll just have to catch this one and see for yourself. Aside from some minor banding, which is common to 99% of the D.C Animation releases, the picture looks just fine. The DTS 5.1 MA Audio track is surprisingly aggressive and immersive in spots and suits the movie well. If you're a D.C fan..do yourself a favor and, at least, give this a rent. I made a blind purchase strictly on reviews I'd read...and I'm glad I did.

JL: Gods and Monsters is not for the purest (i.e. those unschooled, like myself, in the ways of the DC multi-verse) of the DC comics universe. It is however, an outstanding diversion from your everyday bubblegum pop; with a dash of anime and a smidgen of artistic authorship, this story is a homage to heroes gone rogue. The storytelling is compelling and the action is fluid throughout. There are considerable tributes ("Easter eggs") to DC universes of old which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, watching those characters in this alternate world provided a shock to the system. True to this new universe's form, these are not for the young at heart but the adult kids will love it!

as a long time comic boo reader i have always been super fascinated with alternate time lines. when done well they are excellent. DC has not always done them well in the comics as recently seen in Convergence which in my opinion was yet another over blown hyped up event that really delivered nothing. but this cartoon version of another time line where everything is different was amazing. to see so many long time characters used is so many different roles was exceptional. i enjoyed this DC movie more than most of the recent stuff that has been done. not to say they weren't good, but this was really good. hope to see more of this and less of them rehashing stuff that has already been done.

DC animation has done it again with this movie. They have been putting out direct release animation movies for some time now and this one fits right in. This movie also marks the return of Bruce Timm as writer. Most people will know him and how great he does the DC animated style. If you don't know him, look him up. He's one of the greats. And as always, there are great voice actors in it. This has a great story, so I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I will leave it at that. So, final word is, buy it before it's too late. There is a special edition that comes with am exclusive figure also. That's the one i got.

As along time fan of not only the Justice League, but DC comics and animation in general, I couldn't help but purchase this movie. I can honestly say it was a great film. The storyline, although a departure from the characters previously established origns was excellent and the alternate versions of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are a great addtion to the established DC Universe. This film was full of action, intrigue, humor, and plenty of drama. All the marks of a classic in my book. The included figurine of Wonder Woman was a nice plus as well and the movie and it's packaging were in excellent condition.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters is the triumphant return of Bruce Timm to the DC animated films, albeit a deviation from the amazing DCAU that he is responsible for establishing since the 90's. Gods and Monsters is a great, self-contained story of an alternate universe with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman being the strong powers that we know but very different characters with very different backgrounds, morals, and scruples. The plot is good fun, leaving the viewer guessing, the blu-ray video and audio quality is excellent, and the special features are always the icing on the cake. Definitely a must-have.

An Original & Surpisingly Good Take...

Bruce Timm has produced the majority of the DCU's animated projects for over 25 years. They've mainly been faithful to the source materials. However, this time, Mr. Timm has produced a new version of the classic characters. And, once again, he's succeeded in making it interesting. Without spoiling anything, this version of the JLA isn't altruistic. They're not afraid to flex their muscles for their own purposes. They believe in "the ends justify the means." Beyond that, you'll just have to watch this movie to see how that all plays out. You won't be disappointed.

For sake of the review, best buy experience and physical movie package itself I rated 5 stars because this isn't a movie review. For the movie content, I didnt like the movie at all. My 9yo son thought it was ok though. COMPLETELY new story, the problem was it wasnt all new content, the story included known story lines that they altered and changed as well as all new story lines. I don't want to give anything away but I personally didnt like the direction this story went or how they made some of the established characters actions. All my opinion of course, take it with a grain of salt.

In this original animated DC film, set in a alternate universe, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are the JLA who protect the world by force. These heroes aren't what you're used too, each hero is a different person completely from what we know, with a new and unique background. Someone is setting up the JLA, but who? The public and the government start to turn on the JLA, because the murders of scientists are made to look like the justice league did it. Can they figure out who, or what is framing them? You'll have to watch to find out.

I bought this because I am a huge fan of Bruce Timm's work on Batman and Superman the animates series' and the Justice League animated series. The reason I am only giving this four stars is because I feel the movie is missing the optimism that characterizes those other works. I also own quite a few of the other DC animated movies that have been released over the years. I don't feel like this one is quite as good as The Red Hood, or Flashpoint. But it is much better than Justice League: War, or Throne of Atlantis.
