The Ideal Value Priced Earbuds for Working Out
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
JVC Fitness True Wireless In-Ear Bluetooth Headphones feature an integrated flexible hook that you can modify to conform to your ears. This is an earbud that will not fall or shake off during the most intense workout.
These earbuds feature active noise cancellation & ambient awareness, a great safety feature; you can enjoy tunes without blocking out the environment, such as cars, and other potentially dangerous hazards in your path.
Certified IP57, these earbuds are safe from dust and water immersion. You can exercise in the rain & can even shower with them!
The claimed battery life is 11 hours on the earbuds & an additional 29 hours with the charging case. I wore them for 8 hours over 2 days and they were still going strong.
Sound quality is reasonable for the price. However, they play at a lower volume than most other earbuds I have tested. There is no app support, so customizing options are limited.
CONCLUSION:
JVC Fitness True Wireless In-Ear Bluetooth Headphones are ideal for working out because they stay put & will withstand sweat & rain. However, their low sound volume & lack of an app to set parameters will limit their appeal for certain applications. They are value priced & will make a great addition to your workout.

Value-priced active-style earbuds that aren’t basi

Highlights:
* Stable fit with integrated flexible ear hooks
* Compact case
* Good ANC with transparency mode
* Good sound
* Long battery life - up to 40 hrs with case (32 hrs with ANC)
* IP57 rating for dust and water
* No app
Considerations:
* No app
* No Getting Started guide - just a large folding user manual
* Some touch commands are cumbersome like volume
* Ear hooks must be bent a specific way to fit back in case
These TWS earbuds have built-in ear hooks that firmly keep them in place during the most vigorous activities. They sound pretty good and even have adequate active noise cancellation and transparency modes.
Unlike the trend of having a companion app to change settings and update the firmware, these buds are refreshingly simple. Basically, you charge them up, pop them in and use them…. That’s it. No app, no settings, no firmware updates.
The flip side of this is that the touchpad on each bud has to do a lot of heavy lifting. There are distinct actions on each bud with a tap, double tap, triple tap, quadruple tap and long press when playing music and then separate stuff for when in a call. Fortunately, there’s a friendly voice and audio feedback while doing these touch commands.
Again, unlike many others, there is no quick setup guide and without an app, you have to rely on the large folding printed user’s manual with small text to find the details of how to use them. I really think a simple Getting Starting guide with the basics would have been a lot easier for me.
Raising the volume, for example, needs a triple tap of the left bud for each incremental increase, or a double tap for an incremental decrease. So if you want to raise the volume by 3 steps, that 3 triple-taps (9 taps!). I also thinks it’s a bit confusing that the near-standard method of a single tap for play/pause, double for “next” and triple for ‘previous” all isn’t done on the same earbud… the play/pause single tap is on the left bud while the double and triple taps for next/previous are on the right earbud.
The case is relatively compact and between the case and the buds, these supposedly will play for up to 40 hours (32 with ANC) between charges of the case. While the flexible ear hooks bend and adjust to fit your ear for comfort and security, they need to be a specific shape to fit back in the case. This might make them a bit annoying to get back in the case for charging. The lids stays firmly closed magnetically so at least they won’t pop out when you toss the case in a gym bag, purse or pocket.
The sound is actually quite good. I wouldn’t go so far as to call them audiophile buds, but they sound better than I expected for their price. The ANC won’t shield you much from jet engines but should be more than good enough to handle a quick subway ride, a workout at the gym or a day at a noisy office.
Again, these aren’t intended to be high-end buds and for their price, they really do a lot well. A simple quick start guide would have helped since there’s no app, but otherwise they are a great value for the price.

Decent inexpensive sound!

These are decent in-ear headphones for the price tag.
The design and the build is good and functional. They stay in place during the workout sessions as advertised. There are multiple touch controls that allow to operate them during the workout without the need to go back to the phone. All these controls are good and functional except for the volume up function. You need to tap the left ear bud three times in quick succession to increase the volume by one notch. This one gives me the hardest time as I usually end up reducing the volume (double tap).
The sound quality is decent (I am no audiophile). There are two modes: ambient and noise canceling. The noise cancellation is so-so. There are three sound modes: Bass, Clear and Flat. One surprising thing is that there is no mobile app. So, on the positive side, you can control everything without the need of taking out the phone. But on the flip side, there is not much customization that you can do.
The charging case is small and compact. You need to be careful while putting the earphones in the case otherwise these won't charge. Thankfully there is a charging indicator on them. So, whenever I put them in the case for charging, I make sure that the indicator is on.
Overall, I think these are decent headphones for the price tag. JVC should probably try to make often use functions like volume up and down, song track reverse and forward easier. Also, the efforts required to put them in the charging case, made me take one star out.

Great headphones for an active lifestyle

The JVC Fitness True Wireless In Ear Headphones with adjustable flexible earhooks are great for my mobile and active lifestyle. These headphones offer a bit more security for when my workouts get intense with running, jumping, and heavy movements. These flexible hooks ensure they stay in place during my most rigorous activities without feeling like they will fall out of my ear. The earbuds offer adjustable tips in various sizes for ideal comfort and a secure fit.
These headphones offer active noise cancelling for moments when you want to block the external noises out, and then can also switch to transparency mode when you need to hear your surroundings. The ambient sound mode gives you that awareness of your surroundings while still enjoying your audio, and I find this extremely useful when I'm out in public and exercising on walkways and trails. Having easily switchable modes allows me to stay safe while remaining focused on my music to stay motivated during my sport. My main purpose for using more secure headphones like this JVC Fitness is because I am an active body. I run in all types of weather and elements for my outdoor runs. These headphones are IP57 so I feel safe using these in rainy and snowy conditions and know that they will not get damaged in any way. The headphones will offer 11 hours of playback time on a single charge, and then give another 29 hours with the charging case. Therefore you get 40 hours of playback time to be as active as you want to be without worrying about recharging these headphones.
The sound quality on these headphones is mid-tier, but still very acceptable. There are different sound settings to choose from such as Clear for highlighting voices, Bass for a bass boost, and Flat for a neutral sound. The headphones have tap to touch sensors which will allow for different controls for your music, volume, sound EQ, and taking phone calls. The microphone quality is acceptable, but not great for the communication. I did have to repeat myself many times on a few phone calls I made, but the background environment also could have made that challenging. These headphones operate on Bluetooth 5.4 and give me almost 30 feet of range away from my connected device. Provided in the contents are the pair of headphones, the charging case, the USB-A to USB-C charging cable, and the multiple silicone ear tips.
Overall a good pair of audio listening headphones. I really like the design and fit with the earhooks giving me more peace of mind that they will not fall out while I'm running a 5 minute mile. I can easily hear my outside surroundings for safety, while still enjoying my music being streamed from my phone. Comfortable fit, and easy to use design.

good product with a very minor annoyance

Produces good sound. I really like that ability to adjust the fit of the ear hooks - that may be the best reason to get these. Touch controls are easy to use - and they produce an alert when they recognize the touch.
There are two reasons they didn't get a full 5 stars. 1) the ability to adjust the earhooks means you have to be extra careful when putting the earbuds back in the case. On multiple occasions, I wasn't careful and one of the earbuds didn't seat properly and didn't charge. That was a minor annoyance. And 2) (and this is an annoyance with JVCKenwood, not the product itself) I can't easily download a full copy of the manual because of the way they publish the manual on-line.
I'd like to give this product 4.5 stars but that's not an option. I would definitely recommend and would buy again as I like features

Great for sports!

Nice sporty earbuds. I've been looking for ones that would wrap around my ear lobes so they don't fall off while jogging or doing other sports, these fit the bill. They come in a nice carrying case, which also serves as a charging one. They include a very short type C usb cable and a set of different sizes silicone tips. The stock ones were good for me. Both had paper stickers preventing them from making a connection with the charging case, I had to figure this out because they were not charging initially nor getting into Bluetooth pairing mode when opening the case's flap. I did not see this on the manual, but was easy to figure out. Once that was out, they made contact with the charging pins and was able to pair them with my phone, which was easy and fast. JVC does not have any app to control them, you use your phone and both have capacitive tops, one, two, three quick touches or holds controls the volume, answer and hang-up calls, media (skip track, etc.). Sound was great and they have ANC (active noise canceling) and it worked very well. The parts that wrap around my ear lobes were soft and malleable, you can tune them to your ear size. They stay put while I was running, great for anyone that does sports.
One thing you have to make sure is to bend them tight/back when putting them back to the charging/carrying case otherwise they will not fit right and wont make contact with it to get them charging.

Good for running

These wireless fitness series JVC earbuds are pretty good. They are comfortable for me. The instructions are not very detailed, so initially they were not easy to pair to my iPhone. Instructions don’t give very much information at all about how to do it, it only says “flashes slowly” on the instructions, which refers to the tiny light on each earbud. I use my iPad for my workouts, so I had to pair these to the iPad too. It took a bit but I realized that I had to turn off the bluetooth on my iPhone in order to pair to the iPad because it was confusing the earbuds. You cannot pair these earbuds to two devices at once, which is a negative. So if you are using these on your iPhone and want to switch over to the iPad, you have to disconnect them from the iPhone to be able to do so.
The sound is average. There is no app to control the bass or treble or anything like that. You can touch the left earbud with a long tap to get flat, bass or clear sound options. The voice that you hear is a female voice. This tells you which audio type you are currently on - ambient, off, or noise canceling. I would prefer it if it said “noise canceling on” but just says “noise canceling”.
The ear hooks are good. I’ve never had earbuds with them and I wasn’t sure if I would like them. My ears are on the small side, and they seem to work on my ears, and they are flexible. You get four ear tips plus the one pair that is already on the earbuds in the case. I notice that I don’t hear the inner parts of the earbuds rattling around when I run, which is something that tends to happen with many wireless earbuds, so that’s a plus.
For the price point, which is around $80 at the time that I am writing this review, these are a fairly affordable and comfortable option but they aren’t the highest quality choice.

Adjustable ear catches have me sold!

I love how well these stay put. I had never tried this style of earbuds / wireless ear piece before receiving these, and I don't think I'll go back to the regular in-ear type. I actually hadn't even realized that the part that wraps around the back of the ear was flexible, GAME CHANGER for me! I'm pretty active at work, often moving furniture, chairs, tables, setting up meetings and events and I need my hands free when taking calls. My first pair of earbuds were a set that hung around my neck. I liked those alot, but the range wasn't very good. I couldn't walk away from my phone more than maybe 10ft? Next pair I tried were truly wireless like Airpod-style. Good sound, but were too big to fit inside my ears properly, always one second from popping out. VERY ANNOYING for a $150 pair of earbuds. This set has been a total upgrade and are surprisingly inexpensive for the quality of them. The sound is really amazing. I can hear and almost feel every bass line in a smooth, soothing sort of way. Calls are clear and I'm told my voice is very clear from the other end. They stay in place with the adjustable ear catches, which I don't even feel behind my ear. I find myself checking that it's still in place, as that's how light or weightless it feels. Comfortable inside my ears as well. Getting the rhythm of the number of taps is a bit difficult, but I think that's just me needing to get used to it. Had the same experience with my last set. Honestly, though, if you just set the volume to one level that works for both music and talking, you won't need to do much else. I really like these! A keeper.

Poor bass and ANC, no sizeable tips, low volume

I had another brand of over the ear earbuds and they were nice. Good bass, great volume and ANC that could at least block out some noise.
Unfortunately my daughter liked them even more so they are now hers so I was on the hunt for another pair for myself and decided to give
the JVCs a try.
Packed in a nice, compact box inside you will get your JVC over the ear earbuds, a short recharging cable and small stack of pamphlets.
Pros:
Over the ear design
Battery Life
Comfortable
Cons:
Virtually NO noise cancelling (ANC)
Low max volume
No sizeable ear tip replacements
No Bass
Have to be careful when putting them back in case
Fit wise, the over the ear design is great because there is no chance of the earbuds slipping off your ears at all.
Putting them on is as easy as placing the bud in your ear, placing the strap tip behind your ear and rotating them back.
After using them for a few days, the battery life is good and they are comfortable. You almost forget they're there since
the strap removes needing to routinely check of they're seated right and not on the edge of falling out like some ear buds.
These are "ok" for maybe podcast / book listening and if you don't really care about a deep rich soundscape for music.
I used these at my local planet fitness which is a very loud gym and toggling in between ANC made no difference. Every bit of
that local gym noise and fans made their way in. I tried them outside for a walk and it was a windy day and yep, zero blocking
of the strong winds that day. With the wind going, I found myself fighting to hear what was going on because the volume on these
are not very loud and I was near max volume to get a decent listening dB going.
I tested them for music and there is basically no bass unless you mash them against your ear manually with your hand and even
that is what I would rate as "poor" bass. The mids are almost non present and it listens like all highs (treble) for the most part.
I do think if they had different sized earbud tips maybe a larger, softer pair that were more pliable and made to "fit" better could
have saved at least a little bit of the sound quality and ANC maybe but I'm not even sure about that.
Last, but not least, this is the first pair of earbuds, either normal or over the ear, that you have to be a bit extra careful
when putting them back in the case as the groove for the behind the ear strap isn't exactly straight on along with the strap itself
is a bit too flexible and the way the bud sits against the charging contacts isn't super secure. A minor annoyance but on top of
everything else it just adds to the list.
At this stage of the game, I've probably tested and used at least 15+ pairs of earbuds and these are ranked towards the bottom end
of the spectrum especially given their price. I've used much better for much cheaper.
I won't be using these except for some outdoor hikes or runs when I need earbud security but that's about it

I had difficulty connecting them to my computer bluetooth. This is where I needed them. The printed instructions were not all correct. I contacted customer support and received good help. He told me the correct way to adjust the sound, opposite of the instructions. Still, sound was not good and they were not confortable.
